BEE Sector Experts and Project Engineer 2026: choose the domain your experience can support
Bureau of Energy Efficiency is recruiting four Sector Experts and one Project Engineer on contract. Each position has one vacancy. The four expert roles cover Standards & Labelling, ADEETIE, buildings and artificial intelligence; the Project Engineer position supports National Exam Coordinator work. Applications must reach BEE by 17 November 2026.
For an experienced applicant, the decisive detail is the domain requirement. Five years in an engineering job does not necessarily establish five years of experience in building energy performance, MSMEs or energy-sector AI. The prescribed CV specifically asks candidates to describe their relevant duties and attach supporting documents. Choosing the role that matches those records is more useful than applying solely because the salary or degree title fits.

🥧 Vacancy distribution: Sector Experts and Project Engineer
| Position group | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Sector Experts | 4 |
| Project Engineer | 1 |
Sector Experts account for 80% of the five vacancies; Project Engineer accounts for 20%. Within the expert group, each specialisation has just one seat. There is therefore no four-seat common pool for an applicant specialising only in buildings or AI. Category-wise reservation details are Not specified in this circular.
The larger share of expert posts reflects the experience required: all four demand five years of post-qualification domain work. The Project Engineer seat has a one-year threshold. It is the relevant option for an earlier-career applicant who meets its examination/energy-domain requirements, rather than an interchangeable junior version of every expert role.
⚙️ 1. Sector Expert — Standards & Labelling
Essential education: a bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade from a recognised university/institution, together with a postgraduate/master’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Energy Planning, Energy Management, Sustainable Energy, Environmental Studies or Environment Science.
Experience: at least five years of post-qualification domain work in energy management, operations and maintenance, technical evaluation of energy savings, standards for appliances/equipment, promotion and development, or the related areas described in the circular. BEE Certified Energy Auditor/Manager status is preferred.
A useful CV for this position should connect the equipment or programme handled with the applicant’s own technical responsibility. An employer certificate stating only “worked as Engineer” leaves that connection unclear. Where supported by records, describe the appliance/equipment scope, assessment or standards work, and dates of responsibility. These are ways to present relevant experience, not additional qualifications imposed by BEE.
🏭 2. Sector Expert — ADEETIE
The bachelor’s and postgraduate requirements are the same as for S&L, including the 60% or equivalent-grade threshold at bachelor’s level. The distinguishing requirement is at least five years of post-qualification domain experience in MSME. BEE Certified Energy Auditor/Manager status is preferred.
Applicants should make the MSME connection explicit in their employment history. Identify the assignments, the nature of the work and the period for which they were responsible. A broader manufacturing or consulting background needs supporting records showing how it meets this particular domain requirement. The application form provides space for detailed duties and permits an additional signed sheet when necessary.
🏢 3. Sector Expert — ECSBC / Buildings
This position accepts a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology or Architecture, with at least 60% or equivalent grade. A postgraduate/master’s degree in one of the listed engineering, technology, energy or environmental fields is also essential.
The five-year post-qualification experience requirement covers energy management, technical evaluation of energy savings, ECBC compliance and standards, building energy simulation software or green-building ratings. Preferred credentials include BEE Energy Auditor/Manager, ECBC Master Trainer, CMVP and IGBC/LEED/GRIHA certification. Knowledge of building energy-efficiency technologies is also preferred.
Architecture graduates have an expressly stated route here. A relevant bachelor’s degree alone, however, does not complete the education requirement: the postgraduate condition also applies. In the CV, distinguish between participation in a building project and personal responsibility for energy performance, simulation, compliance or rating work. State the contribution accurately and support it with an employer or project certificate where available.
🧠 4. Sector Expert — Artificial Intelligence
The bachelor’s qualification may be in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science or an allied discipline, with at least 60% or equivalent grade. The required postgraduate/master’s degree must be in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, AI & ML or Data Analytics.
The experience requirement is at least five years after qualification in AI/Data Analytics applications relevant to the energy sector. This makes the sector connection important. A general software-development profile or an AI qualification does not, by itself, demonstrate that experience.
Describe the energy problem, the analytical work you personally undertook and the period of involvement. Use project descriptions and experience certificates that can substantiate those claims. If relying on an “allied discipline” degree, provide its exact title and any documentary basis for equivalence; eligibility will be assessed by BEE.
📝 5. Project Engineer — NECA
The Project Engineer needs a bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with at least 60% or equivalent grade. The circular requires one year of post-qualification domain experience in conducting examinations and energy management, auditing or related work.
A valid GATE score receives preference. BEE Certified Energy Auditor/Manager status and a postgraduate/master’s qualification in the listed engineering, energy or environmental fields are desirable. Unlike the four Sector Expert positions, a postgraduate degree is not listed as essential for this post.
An examination-coordination profile should explain the responsibilities actually performed, the period involved and the supporting employer records. GATE is a preference in this notice; the circular does not publish a GATE cutoff, score weightage or score-based merit formula.
🎓 Qualification checks that can change your eligibility
| Check | What the applicant should establish |
|---|---|
| Bachelor’s marks | At least 60% or the institution’s equivalent grade |
| Degree field | Exact match to the chosen position, including any expressly allowed alternative |
| Postgraduate qualification | Essential for Sector Experts; desirable for Project Engineer |
| Experience dates | Relevant post-qualification period completed by 17 November 2026 |
| Domain | Work connected to the selected division, supported by duties and certificates |
| Preferred credentials | Certificate number/year or valid scorecard, where applicable |
The circular does not give a universal CGPA conversion formula. If the degree uses grades, include the institution’s official equivalence/conversion record where needed. Similarly, list employment periods with start and end dates rather than rounding them to whole years. Keep overlapping assignments visible so the same period is not inadvertently counted twice.
For Sector Experts, both bachelor’s and postgraduate qualifications are required. The notice uses the term “post-qualification experience” without a detailed rule resolving every possible study-and-employment sequence. If eligibility depends on work completed before the essential postgraduate qualification, seek clarification from BEE before relying on that period.
🔎 Which experience belongs under which post?
The notice names the domains; the examples below illustrate how an applicant might present relevant work. They are application-preparation guidance, not additional BEE eligibility conditions or a predicted interview syllabus.
| Your documented work | Position worth examining | What the application still needs to establish |
|---|---|---|
| Technical assessment of appliance/equipment performance, energy savings or standards | S&L | The relevant duties, duration and essential education |
| Domain assignments with micro, small or medium enterprises | ADEETIE | The MSME connection and five years of qualifying domain experience |
| Building energy models, ECBC compliance or green-building assessment | ECSBC / Buildings | Personal technical contribution, relevant qualifications and duration |
| AI or data analytics applied to energy-sector problems | Artificial Intelligence | Both the AI/data work and its energy-sector relevance |
| Examination administration and energy-management/audit work | Project Engineer — NECA | The one-year post-qualification requirement and fit with the stated experience clause |
An S&L application benefits from technical context. For example, an equipment-assessment assignment can be described through the type of equipment, the performance parameter assessed, the reference or method used and the applicant’s responsibility. “Handled energy projects” offers much less evidence than a dated, verifiable account of the work. Include only figures and outcomes that your records support.
An ADEETIE application needs a visible MSME connection. A consultant working across several industries should identify which assignments involved MSMEs and what was done during those periods. If a single employer certificate covers a broad role, a signed duty statement or project assignment record may help explain the relevant work. BEE’s circular asks for domain-experience certificates; a client list alone does not explain the applicant’s contribution.
For buildings, distinguish modelling from certification. Using a simulation tool, preparing a compliance submission and contributing to a green-building assessment are different activities. Say which you performed. A professional credential belongs in the qualifications/credentials section, while the projects and periods demonstrating the five-year experience requirement belong in the employment history. Keeping them separate makes both easier to assess.
For AI, the energy application is central. An illustrative project could involve analysing energy-consumption data or evaluating a forecasting model, but BEE has not prescribed a particular algorithm, language or software stack in this circular. Explain the actual problem, your analytical contribution and how results were evaluated. Do not add a technology to the CV merely because it sounds relevant to AI.
For NECA, make operational responsibility clear. Where supported by employment records, explain the part of examination coordination or energy-domain work you handled. State whether you owned a process, supported a team or performed a specific technical task. The minimum is one year, so precise dates and duties are especially useful for applicants whose experience is close to the threshold.
🧾 Essential, desirable and discretionary: three different tests
| Requirement | How it affects the application |
|---|---|
| Essential qualification | Must be established under the published criteria |
| Desirable qualification / preference | Strengthens the profile but is not described as an essential minimum |
| Exceptional committee discretion | Requires recorded reasons and competent-authority ratification; an applicant cannot assume it will apply |
For example, a Project Engineer applicant with the required bachelor’s degree and experience is not automatically ineligible merely for lacking a master’s degree: postgraduate education is desirable for that post. In contrast, a Sector Expert applicant cannot ordinarily substitute a GATE score or professional certification for the required postgraduate qualification.
The buildings role also illustrates why a preferred credential must be read carefully. ECBC Master Trainer, CMVP and IGBC/LEED/GRIHA credentials are listed as preferences. The notice does not require every applicant to hold all of them. List the credentials you actually possess, with their exact names and supporting documents.
📆 Experience close to the cutoff: how to present it
Prepare a chronological list using the dates in appointment, relieving and experience certificates. For each period, show the qualification already completed, employer, position, relevant duties and evidence available. This lets the assessor follow the basis of your claim without reconstructing it from separate pages.
| Illustrative situation | Sensible action before submission |
|---|---|
| Relevant service reaches the required duration only after 17 November | It does not meet the published experience cutoff on the strength of that later period |
| Two projects ran during the same employment period | Describe both contributions without treating concurrent months as twice the elapsed experience |
| Qualification completed while employed | State both dates and seek clarification if eligibility depends on counting the earlier work |
| Employer certificate gives dates but no duties | Seek a supporting record explaining the relevant domain responsibilities |
| Degree uses CGPA and the marksheet gives no percentage | Obtain the institution’s applicable equivalence/conversion evidence |
These examples do not establish a new counting formula. The recruitment circular sets the closing-date reference and post-qualification condition; it does not provide a detailed rule for every education-and-employment sequence.
💰 Monthly pay and the contract decision
📊 Monthly remuneration by position group
| Position group | Monthly remuneration in INR |
|---|---|
| Sector Expert | 100000 |
| Project Engineer | 60000 |
The difference is ₹40,000 per month. Each Sector Expert receives the same stated remuneration despite the different domain requirements. The circular does not identify a Central Pay Matrix level or separately quantify DA, HRA, travel allowance or other benefits for these engagements.
These are contractual/co-terminus appointments. Annual renewal will be considered on satisfactory performance, and the appointment gives no right to regularisation in BEE or the Government of India. An applicant comparing this offer with an existing job should therefore consider both remuneration and renewal dependence. Confirm the appointment’s detailed terms before accepting or resigning from current employment.
| Contract question | What the notice confirms | What needs the engagement terms |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly remuneration | ₹1,00,000 for SE; ₹60,000 for PE | Payment administration and deductions |
| Continuation | Annual renewal considered on satisfactory performance | Renewal review dates and detailed assessment procedure |
| Nature of appointment | Contractual / co-terminus | Exact commencement and cessation terms |
| Permanent employment | No right to regularisation | No conversion commitment is stated |
| Additional benefits | Not specified | Leave, insurance, reimbursements and any other benefits |
| Place of work | BEE’s application office is in New Delhi | Confirmed duty station and travel requirements |
The ₹40,000 monthly gap equals a 66.7% increase over the Project Engineer remuneration (₹40,000 ÷ ₹60,000), rounded to one decimal place. It accompanies a different qualification and experience requirement; it is not a promotion scale published by BEE. No annual increment or progression from PE to SE is promised in the circular.
📍 Age, location and selection
The maximum age is 35 years for Sector Experts and 30 years for Project Engineer, assessed on 17 November 2026. Category-wise age-relaxation details are not specified in this circular.
Applications go to BEE’s office at Sewa Bhawan, R.K. Puram, New Delhi. A separate duty-station or transfer schedule is not specified in the notice. The Delhi correspondence address should therefore be distinguished from a confirmed posting term; obtain that detail with the engagement terms.
BEE will shortlist applicants and call selected candidates for personal interaction. Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee an invitation. The notice gives no written-examination syllabus, interview date, marks distribution or qualifying score. Preparation should focus on explaining the relevant work already claimed in the CV, supported by sound technical understanding and documents.
The committee may exceptionally consider a deviation from eligibility for a candidate of outstanding overall merit, with recorded reasons and ratification by the competent authority. This is a discretionary provision, not an automatic relaxation available to every applicant. Candidates should assess themselves against the published requirements.
💬 Preparing for personal interaction
Shortlisting is followed by personal interaction, but no official question list or marking scheme is published. A practical preparation exercise is to select two or three assignments from your own CV and explain each through the problem, your responsibility, the method used, the result and the limitation. Keep supporting documents consistent with that account.
For S&L, that discussion could centre on the performance or standards work actually claimed. For ADEETIE, it could concern the MSME assignment and its practical constraints. Buildings applicants can revisit the assumptions and evidence behind their compliance, simulation or rating work. AI applicants can prepare to explain data quality, evaluation and the energy-sector use of their work. NECA applicants can review the examination/energy responsibilities described in their employment history. These are role-based preparation suggestions, not questions announced by BEE.
Annexure I also allows additional information on publications, reports, projects, awards, training and professional affiliations. Use that space selectively. A relevant technical report or professional credential is more informative than a long list with no connection to the chosen position. The circular says the supported CV will be assessed during selection, so the application itself should be clear enough to discuss confidently.
📬 How to submit the application
Use the prescribed Annexure I CV, naming the position applied for. Complete personal details, qualifications, employment history, present employment and remuneration, and additional information relevant to suitability. The form asks applicants to compare the required qualifications/experience with those they possess.
Attach:
- A detailed CV and the completed prescribed proforma.
- Two passport-size photographs.
- Self-attested copies of educational certificates.
- Domain-experience certificates.
- BEE Auditor/Manager certificates or valid scorecards, where applicable.
For an additional employment-history sheet, follow the form’s instruction to authenticate it with your signature. Keep job dates and qualification dates consistent across the CV and enclosures. Supporting material should establish your own work and credentials without including confidential client or employer information unnecessarily.
Send the application to:
The Secretary, Bureau of Energy Efficiency
Ministry of Power, Government of India
4th Floor, Sewa Bhawan, R.K. Puram, Sector-1
New Delhi – 110066
The application must reach the office on or before 17 November 2026. Late or incomplete applications are liable to rejection. Keep a complete copy and delivery proof. An online application link, application fee and deadline time are Not specified in this circular.
