India Reaches 103 Ramsar Sites: Sukhna Wetland and Sauj Jheel Added

India’s Ramsar site tally reached 103 following the addition of Sukhna Wetland in Chandigarh (site no. 2602) and Sauj Jheel in Uttar Pradesh (site no. 2603). The pair illustrates two different wetland landscapes: a reservoir at the foothills of the Outer Himalayas and a shallow lake in the Ganga floodplain. The exam-worthy details are the state/UT mapping, site numbers, wetland ecology and the Ramsar Convention—not merely the total.

IMF October 2026 WEO: India at 7% in FY27, Global Growth at 3.1% — The Fiscal-Year Trap

Five facts matter most for exams: (1) IMF report = World Economic Outlook, October 2026; (2) report subtitle = “Resilience Under Strain, Urgent Choices”; (3) world growth = 3.1% in 2026, 3.4% in 2027; (4) global inflation = 4.7% in 2026, 4.1% in 2027; (5) India = 7.0% for FY 2026/27, but 7.4% for calendar year 2026. The IMF attributes the unusual divergence across economies to a negative energy/geopolitical shock occurring alongside AI-driven investment and technology trade. Table 1.1’s India footnote is essential to avoiding misleading comparisons.

2026 Nobel Peace Prize: Navi Pillay, International Justice and the ICJ–ICC Difference

Winner: Navanethem “Navi” Pillay. Year: 2026. Category: Nobel Peace Prize. Announced: 9 October 2026. Awarding body: Norwegian Nobel Committee. Reason: contributions to peace and international law. Born in Durban, South Africa, Pillay served as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, 2008–2014, worked at the ICTR and ICC, and was an ad hoc ICJ judge in a genocide-convention case. The biggest exam trap is treating ICJ and ICC as the same tribunal: the ICJ principally hears disputes between states; the ICC exercises criminal jurisdiction over persons for crimes defined by the Rome Statute.

2026 Nobel Physics: Francis Halzen, IceCube and How Antarctic Ice Detects Cosmic Neutrinos

The 2026 Physics Nobel recognized Francis Halzen, the IceCube scientist who led the transformation of clear Antarctic ice into a gigaton-scale neutrino detector at the geographic South Pole. IceCube measures flashes of Cherenkov light from charged particles produced by rare neutrino interactions. The instrumented volume is about 1 cubic kilometre; the established detector has 86 strings and 5,160 in-ice optical modules. Its 2013 detection of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos opened neutrino astronomy, while the 2017 neutrino–gamma-ray association pointed toward a blazar source. The laureate, instrument, location and signal mechanism are separate exam facts.
