Forensic science directorate of the Government of Goa, based at Verna.
Recruitment-specific overview from the published record.
Official source: Directorate of Forensic Sciences (DFS), Department of Home, Government of Goa, Verna. Original advertisement No. 2/2026/DFS/VRN/Recruit-130, dated 26 October 2026, including Annexure A document checklist and Annexure B application form. This is a 26 October notice, not a 30 October notification. This article distinguishes the eight practical application profiles inside six original post headings, not eight invented government advertisements.
DFS Goa has advertised 24 purely contractual positions supporting forensic examination and urgent crime-scene operations. They range from an MSc-qualified Scientific Officer to an SSC-qualified Photographer/Videographer with documentary proof of specialist training and working experience. These are not regular permanent government jobs. The offer ends after one year or when the regular positions are filled, whichever is earlier, with the notice's termination terms applying even before that point.
The recruitment is OFFLINE: fill and sign the Annexure B form attached to the same nine-page PDF, affix a photograph, attach relevant self-attested certificates and deliver or post it to the Verna address. Do not search for or pay via an invented online Apply Now portal. If applying for more than one post, DFS requires a separate application for each. The original advertisement doesn't disclose age limit, selection marks, exam scheme or category reservation: the correct answer to those questions is Not specified, not a copied figure from another Goa government vacancy.
| Published post | Seats | Consolidated monthly pay | Essential education route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scientific Officer (SOC) | 5 | ₹60,800 | Second-class MSc + 2 years relevant FSL experience |
| Scientific Assistant (DNA) | 1 | ₹48,800 | Second-class MSc and Zoology subject at BSc level |
| Scientific Assistant — Biology & Serology | 1 | ₹48,800 | MSc Zoology/Forensic Science/Microbiology/Genetics/Biotechnology |
| Scientific Assistant — Ballistics & Physics | 1 | ₹48,800 | MSc Physics/Chemistry/Forensic Science |
| Scientific Assistant — Toxicology/Chemistry/Narcotics | 3 | ₹48,800 | MSc Chemistry/Forensic Science |
| Searcher (SOC) | 1 | ₹39,000 | BSc, computer and physical/vision standards |
| Photographer | 3 | ₹22,300 | SSC + photography diploma and 1 year OR certificate and 3 years |
| Videographer | 9 | ₹22,300 | SSC + photography diploma and 1 year OR certificate and 3 years |
| Total | 24 | No age or reserved-category roster published |
The five Scientific Assistant vacancies are not interchangeable: the original table splits them into Biology & Serology 1, Ballistics & Physics 1, and Toxicology/Chemistry/Narcotics 3. A chemistry student should not use the Biology & Serology specialisation list, and a microbiology candidate should not presume Toxicology/Chemistry is covered. The one DNA Scientific Assistant is an additional, separately listed post.
View bar chart: published consolidated monthly remuneration by role
| Position / remuneration group | Consolidated monthly pay (₹) |
|---|---|
| Scientific Officer (SOC) | 60800 |
| Scientific Assistant (including DNA) | 48800 |
| Searcher (SOC) | 39000 |
| Photographer / Videographer | 22300 |
These amounts are published fixed monthly consolidated remuneration, not 7th CPC basic pay, salary in hand or CTC. The notice specifically excludes allowances/facilities available to regular staff. The difference between Scientific Officer and the photographer/videographer rate is ₹38,500/month, which is a transparent arithmetic comparison, not an additional benefit. For an applicant choosing between eligible profiles, use the post's qualification route and work environment rather than treating all 24 seats as one generic ₹22,300–₹60,800 job.
View pie chart: 24 places grouped by published minimum academic pathway
| Entry qualification grouping (editorial, not reservation) | Advertised seats |
|---|---|
| MSc-qualified scientific posts | 11 |
| BSc-qualified Searcher (SOC) | 1 |
| SSC plus photography training posts | 12 |
This is an editorial grouping of published posts, not the Directorate's official reservation schedule. The MSc grouping includes SOC Officer 5, DNA Scientific Assistant 1 and other Scientific Assistants 5 = 11. Searcher has BSc route = 1. Photographer 3 plus Videographer 9 require SSC and photography-specific training and experience = 12. Do not misread the SSC group as posts open to an untrained Class 10 candidate.

Important: The clock windows are working-day office receiving hours, not an interview reporting timetable. The final date is a receipt deadline, so sending a postmarked envelope on 17 November is not enough if it reaches later. Late applications are liable to summary rejection without individual intimation. The notice doesn't establish a separate written exam, admit-card download, answer-key objection window or published cutoff; those lifecycle modules stay empty until an actual new official notice is issued.

Official update page: https://www.goa.gov.in/citizen/recruitment/ — shortlisted applicants and later selected names will be published there. The employer says selected applicants will also be contacted by email and post.
For the five Scientific Officer seats, an at-least-second-class Master of Science in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Zoology, Microbiology, Genetics, Biotechnology or Physics is necessary but not sufficient. The notice also requires two years of practical relevant laboratory/crime-scene experience from a State/Central Forensic Science Laboratory. Do not describe experience in a private pathology lab as automatically equivalent. The stated work involves 24-hour crime-scene readiness, evaluating scientific staff and evidence, quality assurance, maintaining visit records and deposition as an expert witness in court.
Knowledge of Konkani and computers is essential; the Directorate's notice describes a conditional governmental relaxation mechanism for the Konkani requirement when suitable candidates are unavailable, not an automatic exemption for all non-Konkani speakers. A relevant doctorate, Marathi and FACT/FACT+ are desirable. Specific visual standards include 6/6 in each eye for distant vision and 0.5 near vision in each eye, with the additional stated visual-field and eye-condition restrictions. Applicants should read those source terms before spending on travel or a form.
The one DNA position pays ₹48,800 consolidated/month and requires a second-class MSc in Microbiology, Genetics, Zoology, Biotechnology or Forensic Science, with Zoology as a subject at the Bachelor of Science level, following the precise wording of page 2. A candidate with a qualifying-looking MSc but no Zoology entry in undergraduate records should not presume eligibility. Computer and Konkani knowledge are essential, whereas Marathi and relevant FACT/FACT+ are desirable. The source also publishes the same detailed visual/physical restrictions for this DNA role.
| Division | Actual vacancy | MSc disciplines printed in the PDF |
|---|---|---|
| Biology & Serology | 1 | Zoology; Forensic Science; Microbiology; Genetics; Biotechnology |
| Ballistics & Physics | 1 | Physics; Chemistry; Forensic Science |
| Toxicology, Chemistry & Narcotics | 3 | Chemistry; Forensic Science |
All three require a recognised second-class MSc and Konkani. Unlike the SOC Officer and DNA descriptions, computer literacy is placed under Desirable for the general Scientific Assistant entries. Do not elevate it into a formally stated essential qualification. This distinction matters to an MSc Chemistry applicant: Chemistry is explicitly listed for the Ballistics and Toxicology routes, not the Biology group. Each division assists exhibit examination, packaging/sealing, evidentiary registers and site-visit reporting under senior staff. Neither a guaranteed number of interview marks nor a category roster is in the source.
The single Searcher (SOC) position pays ₹39,000/month and accepts Bachelor of Science from a recognised university/equivalent. However, computer knowledge, Konkani and the published physical/visual fitness criteria are also essential. This is crime-scene and fingerprint-evidence support, not a regular library-research or office-record searcher. The incumbent may visit scenes across Goa at any hour, help collect fingerprints and give testimony in a court of law. Marathi is desirable, not an additional essential degree.
The three Photographer positions pay ₹22,300/month, and the notice gives two distinct ways to meet the requirements:
| Official alternative | Education | Actual experience |
|---|---|---|
| Path A | SSC + Diploma in Photography | 1 year practical photography work at a reputed photo studio/concern |
| Path B, failing which | SSC + six-month Certificate Course in Photography | 3 years practical photography work at a reputed studio/concern |
These are not “SSC only” positions, nor is any six-month generic computer certificate adequate. Konkani and physical field fitness also apply. Photographer duties include emergency crime-scene photography throughout Goa, even during weekends and holidays, and potential court witness duties. Marathi is desirable.
There are nine Videographer positions at ₹22,300/month. The original PDF actually uses the qualification “Diploma in Photography”, even though the job title is Videographer. It sets SSC + that diploma + one year as a videographer, or alternatively SSC + six-month Certificate Course in Photography + three years as a videographer. This unusual combination is why reading only third-party snippets is risky. It is not correct to substitute an unadvertised “Diploma in Videography” as the sole required award. Applicants must show the specified course and genuine videography experience, not unrelated photography job history.
Konkani knowledge appears in the essential conditions for all advertised posts. Marathi is described as desirable. The conditional Konkani relaxation language applies where it is expressly described and requires government-level action; candidates should never treat this as permission to leave language details blank. Several SOC/scientific roles have explicit 6/6 distant vision for each eye and 0.5 near vision for each eye, full field of vision and source-listed disqualifying ocular conditions. Photographer/Videographer include physical fitness for scene duty. These are employer-published job suitability requirements, not invented SarkariSapna medical tests.
The work is more demanding than a conventional laboratory shift: 24x7 deployment across crime scenes in Goa, including Sundays and holidays, is published in duties/conditions. Evidence integrity, case logs, lawful handover, preparation of reports and court attendance are practical responsibilities. A candidate who can meet a degree criterion but cannot undertake emergency fieldwork should examine these conditions before applying.
Annexure A (page 7) lists birth certificate, SSC, HSSC, degree certificate for relevant scientific posts, photography/videography training certificate for media posts, postgraduate certificate for scientific roles, residence certificate, employment registration card, work-experience certificate, computer knowledge certificate, and other related course certificates as applicable. At the interview, bring all originals plus one set of self-attested photocopies in the checklist order. Some items are marked as role-specific; do not think a Photographer must produce an MSc or a Searcher must present a PG degree.
The attached Annexure B application form (pages 8–9) also asks for personal address, mobile/email, nationality, DOB, gender, employment registration number, FACT/FACT+ status, semester/degree records, an experience table and signed truthfulness declaration. DOB being requested does not mean the age ceiling has been disclosed. Do not invent a maximum age by copying old Goa exam notices.
| Candidate scenario | Source-grounded assessment |
|---|---|
| MSc Chemistry + two years of experience in a private testing firm | Officer (SOC) FSL experience condition is not automatically proved; read State/Central FSL wording |
| MSc Forensic Science + BSc without Zoology subject | DNA route requires checking BSc-level Zoology statement, even if MSc looks relevant |
| MSc Genetics applying for Toxicology/Chemistry/Narcotics | Genetics alone is not on this subgroup's published MSc list |
| MSc Chemistry for Biology & Serology | Chemistry alone is not on this subgroup's published MSc list |
| MSc Physics for Ballistics & Physics | Physics is expressly listed; second class/Konkani and remaining conditions still apply |
| BSc Searcher applicant with no computer knowledge | BSc alone does not meet the printed essential conditions |
| SSC + six-month Photography certificate + only one year photographic work | Not enough for Path B; the notice calls for three years |
| SSC + Photography diploma + two years working as a video operator | The Videographer Path A experience and training can be examined under the actual wording |
| SSC without photography qualification but excellent smartphone videos | Not a published qualification substitute |
| Applicant applying for Photographer and Videographer | Two separate forms required; role-specific experience evidence must accompany each |
| Candidate asks about 40/45-year age cutoff | No numeric age ceiling published in this nine-page notice |
| Candidate needs an online payment link | No application fee or online application/payment portal published |

The notice uses “failing which” for the certificate + three-year experience alternative. This is the difference between the employer's published mandatory conditions and a generic label such as “MSc” or “Class 10.”
