About this Recruitment
Recruitment-specific overview from the published record.
🚔 Nagaland Police Constable (GD) 2026: 1,137 seats, but eligibility is district-and-tribe-specific
Advertisement PHQ (B-II)RECT/CONSTABLES(GD)/WP(C)/2026/819, signed at Kohima on 14 October 2026, advertises Constable (General Duty) appointments in Nagaland Police; the department's official website posted the recruitment item on 15 October 2026. This is not an all-India open constable examination. The notification expressly excludes non-Indigenous Tribe applicants and prescribes Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland evidence, specific Indigenous Naga tribe membership, and district-specific application rules. Candidates should check the official documents before choosing a district—not just the headline vacancy figure.

🧮 How 1,137 is counted—and why the two streams cannot be mixed
The advertisement has 1,053 places allocated under the 2011 Census-based tribal ratio, plus 84 backlog places specifically tied to tribal/district vacancies unfilled in the preceding 2025 recruitment. The main allocation contains 848 male and 205 female places; the backlog table contains 82 male and two female places, one Chakhesang and one Sangtam in the Dimapur/Chumoukedima/Niuland group. Thus 1,053 + 84 = 1,137, with both annexure subtotals reconciled. Do not add the 84 backlog places again to the site's headline total or treat them as unrestricted seats.
What the breakdown means in practice: the 149 Konyak seats in Mon are a particular tribal/district entry. They do not make 149 transferable open seats for a candidate whose eligible district and tribe is elsewhere. Likewise, the starred one- and two-seat allocations in Mokokchung, Shamator and Wokha are restricted to specifically named recognised villages. The notification's Annexure I footnotes, not merely the district name, decide whether a candidate qualifies for those rare slots.
📍 Annexure I — all 1,053 main places, reconciled row by row
The following is the official main-allocation table (PDF page 8). These are 25 allocations, not 25 separate recruitment advertisements; the three-district grouping is a single recruitment allocation whose internal split is given by Annexure II.
| District/allocation | Tribe | Total | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dimapur/Chumoukedima/Niuland | All eligible indigenous Naga tribes | 129 | 104 | 25 |
| Kiphire | Sangtam | 22 | 18 | 4 |

| Wokha | Sumi***** | 2 | 2 | 0 |
| Zunheboto | Sumi | 91 | 72 | 19 |
| TOTAL | 1,053 | 848 | 205 |
Footnote restrictions matter: For the starred entries, the notice restricts eligibility to recognised villages—for example, Chang in Mokokchung is limited to Yaongyimti Old/New, Chakpa and Phangsang; Sumi in Mokokchung to Shihaphu, Atuphu and Vikuto; and Phom in Mokokchung to Anaki Old and Anaki ‘C’. Shamator's Sumi entry refers to Sikiur ‘B’, while Wokha's Sumi entry has its own enumerated villages. Confirm the precise village spelling and certificate with the official Annexure I; the presence of the same tribe name elsewhere does not relax that restriction.
🏙️ Annexure II — the 129 seats for Dimapur/Chumoukedima/Niuland
All 129 places in that grouped line are distributed among the 15 Indigenous Naga tribes detailed in Annexure II (page 9); 104 male and 25 female in total. The three districts share a special process under the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur. An applicant for this group must be native to or resident in any one of those three districts, with valid Indigenous Inhabitant and ST certificates from the appropriate district authority (not below Additional Deputy Commissioner). Do not interpret the group's 129 places as 129 separate vacancies for each district.

🗂️ Annexure III — the 84 backlog seats (not a general category)
The backlog belongs only to listed tribes/districts from the preceding recruitment. The numbers below reproduce Annexure III (page 10), including the two female seats; all rows together equal 84.
| District/allocation | Tribe | Male | Female | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mokokchung | Ao | 47 | 0 | 47 |
| Mokokchung | Phom* | 1 | 0 | 1 |

| Tseminyu | Rengma | 3 | 0 | 3 |
| TOTAL | 82 | 2 | 84 |
The Mokokchung Phom backlog place is specifically for residents of Anaki Old and Anaki ‘C’ villages. For the Dimapur/Chumoukedima/Niuland backlog group, the same native-or-resident rule, Indigenous Inhabitant and ST certification apply. There is no general statewide reservation quota substituting for the approved tribal ratio. The notification additionally states that state reservation policy does not apply, women's reservation applies per the cited 2014 policy, and PwBD reservation does not apply to these posts (page 6). Do not import generic all-India SC/ST/OBC/PwBD vacancy percentages into this table.
🎓 School qualification is linked to a specific tribal category, not job title alone
For candidates of Backward Tribes under this notice, the minimum is a Class 6 pass marksheet or higher certificate. For other Indigenous Naga Tribes, the minimum is a Class 8 pass/equivalent from NBSE or an accepted recognised board. If the examination board/institution has not issued the pass/provisional certificate, the notice permits a certificate/letter from that school or authority to that effect. This does not waive the underlying pass requirement. A graduation certificate, by itself, does not replace an Indigenous Inhabitant or ST certificate.
Applicants must upload self-attested copies of academic certificates, an Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland certificate and relevant ST/Backward Tribe evidence issued by a competent authority not below Additional Deputy Commissioner, a permitted identity document (Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence or EPIC) and the specified date-of-birth evidence. For date of birth, the notice accepts a birth certificate or matriculation/equivalent admit card; it says no other document is accepted for that purpose. Serving eligible government employees must also provide the original NOC from the Head of Department/public undertaking at interview. All originals can be demanded for verification (PDF page 2).
🎂 Age cut-off: 14 October 2026, with two distinct concession routes
Age must be at least 18 and no more than 37 on the notification date, not the 30 November application deadline. Government employees may receive a concession equal to their qualifying years of service, capped at five years, and serving applicants must follow existing government policy. Separately, the incumbent Nagaland Police constables and court petitioners specifically covered by the cited Gauhati High Court judgments are given relaxation in accordance with those orders. These two concession categories must not be rewritten as a blanket five-year extension for every eligible applicant. The notice does not provide a universal category-wise numerical age relaxation table or an exact DOB interval.
📏 Physical standards: female measurements are also specified
| Physical standard | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
| Height | 5 ft 3 in | 5 ft 0 in |
| Chest — normal | 31 in | 29 in |
| Chest — expanded | 33 in | 31 in |
| Weight | Proportionate to height; medical standards | Proportionate to height; medical standards |
These are the exact units printed on PDF page 3. Do not substitute a police recruitment height chart from another state or earlier year. The authority can re-conduct the Physical Standards Test. Failure at any stage of the physical/medical requirement may prevent further consideration.
🩺 Medical grounds that a high score cannot override
The department examines weight, height, chest, colour vision, eyes, veins, flat-footedness, knock knees, squint and other deformities; screening includes alcohol and illegal-drug tests. The stated eyesight benchmark is corrected 6/6 in the better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye. Colour blindness, significant hearing problems, varicose veins, specified limb problems and other listed physical conditions may disqualify a candidate. The PDF also describes a pregnancy examination and a deferred basic-training commencement arrangement for selected female candidates who test positive; pay for that deferred period is not provided under the printed clause. These rules should be read as the recruitment's stated conditions, not informal medical advice. The board may repeat medical screening, and qualification in PET/written/interview never overrides medical disqualification (page 4).
🏃 PET: every event has published performance bands
The PET 45 marks come from running 20, pull-ups 15, high jump 5 and long jump 5. Male and female candidates have different distances and repetition thresholds.
Running (20 marks): Men run 3 km: up to 10m30s = 20 marks; 10m31s–11m30s = 15; 11m31s–12m30s = 10. Beyond 12m30s is disqualification. Women run 2 km: within 10 min = 20; within 11 min = 15; within 12 min = 10; beyond 12 min is disqualification.
| Pull-ups (15 marks maximum) | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
| 15 marks | 15 repetitions | 10 repetitions |
| 12 marks | 12 | 8 |
| 9 marks | 9 | 6 |
| 6 marks | 6 | 3 |
| Below minimum | Fewer than 6: disqualified | Fewer than 3: disqualified |
High jump (5 marks): 4 ft men; 3 ft women. First, second and third successful attempts earn 5, 3 and 1 marks respectively. Long jump (5 marks): 12 ft men; 10 ft women, with the same 5/3/1 marks for attempts one/two/three. Up to three attempts are allowed for each jumping event. Failing a required qualifying event is disqualifying; no single event's marks are a standalone guarantee of progression (PDF page 5).
📊 A 100-mark final scoring ceiling—not 100 written questions
Constable GD 2026 official merit components
| Merit component | Marks |
|---|---|
| Physical Efficiency Test (PET) | 45 |
| Written Examination | 40 |
| Interview | 10 |
| NCC Certification | 5 |
This vertically rendered column chart represents 45 + 40 + 10 + 5 = 100. Physical/medical screening is a qualifying gate, not an extra numerical 100-mark component. A maximum of five NCC marks is granted by certificate grade: NCC ‘C’ = 5, ‘B’ = 3, ‘A’ = 2. The PDF does not say negative marking applies. It would be misleading to announce a negative-marking penalty or threshold based on speculation.
The written paper is 80 MCQs for 40 marks, answered in 2 hours, and English-only. Its listed areas include General Awareness/Knowledge, Science, Indian History, Polity, Social Sciences, elementary mathematics, sports, Naga Culture and Heritage, Nagaland State and tribes, and mental aptitude. The department has not published separate question counts or cutoffs by subtopic; this is an announced broad scope, not a sectional marks distribution.
🔁 Selection funnel, shortlist ratios, and waiting-list clock
Following physical/medical eligibility, qualified candidates undergo PET. Based on PET merit, up to 10 times the number of vacancies for each tribe/gender are called for the written exam; failure of the published physical minima ends the attempt earlier. For interview shortlisting, the department combines PET + written marks and invites candidates in a 1:3 vacancy-to-candidate ratio (three candidates per vacancy). The interview itself carries 10 marks. The final merit includes the permitted NCC marks; there is no official test date or general qualifying cutoff announced in these pages.
The department keeps a district/tribe-wise waiting list of 10% of vacancies or five persons, whichever is higher, operated only for non-acceptance, resignation, desertion or discharge of selected candidates. It is valid for 45 days after the publication of final results—not a continuing pool for every future recruitment. The result declaration is treated as an offer letter, and unwilling selected candidates may state non-acceptance within 10 days of result declaration. Appointees undergo two years' probation with service confirmation subject to medical board recommendation and antecedent verification (PDF page 6).
💰 Salary and actual place of first deployment
The notification identifies Level 3, pre-revised Grade Pay ₹1,800 and Pay Band ₹5,200–20,200. It does not state a verified contemporary monthly net / in-hand salary. Do not publish these legacy pay-band figures as the take-home wage. All fresh appointees are to be deployed initially in IR Battalions and may serve within or outside Nagaland according to department orders. Thus selecting a district for recruitment is not a guarantee of being posted in that district.
🧾 Before 31 October: practical pre-application checks
- Check your Indigenous Naga Tribe, district and any recognised-village footnote before deciding where to apply; only one district may be selected.
- Use the official Nagaland Police Recruitment Registration Portal reached through the department's official website; offline forms are not allowed. The PDF provides the official police website rather than a recruitment-specific form URL.
- Prepare the ₹300 non-refundable online examination fee and do not confuse it with optional Common Service Centre assistance charges.
- Scan the Class 6/Class 8 certificate for the correct tribe route, proper Indigenous/tribe documents, age proof and valid identity.
- Check your physical measurements, running/pull-up thresholds and medical standards before spending on travel; no TA/DA or travel accommodation is provided.
- After successful submission, retrieve the auto-generated admit card when available. Any PET/written/interview schedule will be released later; check the official Nagaland Police website and district helpdesks rather than relying on an older year's schedule.
