NLC India Graduate Executive Trainee 2026 — 143 Engineering Vacancies through GATE 2025
Advertisement 10/2026 | NLC India Limited (Navratna Government of India enterprise) | Four disciplines, four separately selectable recruitment areas | Online registration 13 November–14 December 2026.
The opportunity is for engineering graduates who already qualified GATE 2025 in the correct paper and completed the expressly listed engineering degree by 1 November 2026. It is not a recruitment offering a fresh GATE examination in 2026: NLCIL will shortlist against the score already obtained in GATE 2025, conduct personal interviews and calculate final merit out of 100. During the first year the selected employee holds Grade E-2 Graduate Executive Trainee; successful completion of training is followed by E-3 absorption, subject to the employer's stated conditions. This differs fundamentally from the separate NLCIL apprenticeship intake.
NLCIL operates in lignite and coal mining, thermal power and renewable energy. Its notice spans Thermal Power Stations, Mines and Allied Services, Renewable Energy/Projects/Planning, and Services/Support in several states. The employment is not limited to the recruitment office in Neyveli; posting depends on the selected Area and the company's needs. The candidate can apply for only one Area and cannot use the merit list of one Area to obtain a post in another.
Important dates — three different deadlines must not be confused
| Activity | Date and time (India) | What it means for applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Detailed advertisement 10/2026 | 4 November 2026 | PDF created 4 November; advertisement does not print a separate issue-day line |
| Crucial date for age, qualification and claim of reservation | 1 November 2026 | Degree, valid GATE 2025 qualification and relevant benefit conditions are assessed as notified |
| Online application registration opens | 13 November 2026, 10:00 AM | New registration begins through NLCIL Careers |
| Online registration closes | 14 December 2026, 5:00 PM | Applicants must have registered by this time |
| Online fee payment closes | 14 December 2026, 11:45 PM | Payment through the prescribed SBI e-Collect facility |
| Final online submission for already registered/paid candidates | 16 December 2026, 5:00 PM | Extended completion window is not a new-registration opportunity |
| Interview schedule | Not announced | Shortlisted applicants will receive instructions through official channels |
A candidate reading only the 16 December date could wrongly assume that first-time registration remains possible until then. The advertisement does not say that. The first gate is registration by 14 December at 17:00, the payment gate is 14 December at 23:45, and the final-submission extension to 16 December at 17:00 benefits only those who registered and paid within the stated limits.
143 vacancies: four engineering disciplines, not interchangeable job titles
🥧 NLCIL GET 2026 — notified vacancies by engineering discipline
| Engineering discipline | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Mechanical Engineering | 66 |
| Electrical Engineering | 44 |
| Civil Engineering | 23 |
| Mining Engineering | 10 |
Mechanical accounts for 66 of 143 appointments, while all 10 Mining seats fall under Area-2 (Mines & Allied Services). The four disciplines require separate GATE paper codes ME, EE, CE and MN and the corresponding degrees. A candidate with a qualifying GATE score in one discipline cannot use it for another merely because some engineering subjects overlap.
The second choice is the Recruitment Area — 80 + 37 + 18 + 8
📊 NLCIL GET 2026 — recruitment area-wise vacancies
| Recruitment area | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Area-1: Thermal Power Stations | 80 |
| Area-2: Mines and Allied Services | 37 |
| Area-3: Renewable Energy, Projects and Planning | 18 |
| Area-4: Services and Support | 8 |
Area-1 (80): The notice identifies Thermal Power Stations in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The Area-1 columns include Mechanical, Electrical and Civil, but no Mining vacancies. The headquarters' Neyveli address should not be mistaken for a guaranteed duty station.
Area-2 (37): Mines and allied services in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha. It includes Mechanical (20), Electrical (5), Civil (2) and Mining (10). Applicants looking at the Jharkhand or Odisha operations must understand that the notice does not commit every Area-2 recruit to South Pachwara or Talabira individually.
Area-3 (18): Renewable energy, projects and planning in various states: Mechanical (6), Electrical (5) and Civil (7). Mining has no seat in this Area. Exact station-wise distribution has not been promised.
Area-4 (8): Services and support functions in different states: Electrical (4) and Civil (4). There is no Mechanical or Mining opening under Area-4, so selecting it with those disciplines is not a valid route to one of their vacancies.
The exact 12 non-zero discipline–area combinations and reservation roster
The table below reproduces the advertisement's vertical category counts. Four of the 16 theoretical discipline–area pairings have zero places and are not imaginary additional posts. Category names are those used in the notice, with OBC limited to the Non-Creamy Layer reservation category.
| Engineering discipline | Recruitment Area | UR | EWS | OBC-NCL | SC | ST | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanical | Thermal Power Stations | 17 | 4 | 10 | 7 | 2 | 40 |
| Mechanical | Mines & Allied Services | 9 | 2 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 20 |
| Mechanical | Renewable Energy, Projects & Planning | 4 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 6 |
| Electrical | Thermal Power Stations | 17 | 3 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 30 |
| Electrical | Mines & Allied Services | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 5 |
| Electrical | Renewable Energy, Projects & Planning | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 5 |
| Electrical | Services & Support | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 4 |
| Civil | Thermal Power Stations | 4 | 1 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 10 |
| Civil | Mines & Allied Services | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
| Civil | Renewable Energy, Projects & Planning | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 7 |
| Civil | Services & Support | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 4 |
| Mining | Mines & Allied Services | 6 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 10 |
| Grand total | All notified positions | 68 | 13 | 34 | 20 | 8 | 143 |
The horizontal PwBD provisions are not added to those 143 posts. The lengthy PwBD remarks and carried-forward seats from Advertisement 19/2024 apply to identified suitable disabilities and areas under the original official table. Appendix-I describes disability suitability for the posts except Area-2, and the Mining row states None. It would be inaccurate to treat the PwBD footnotes as a fresh independent quota that increases the total vacancies or to apply a listed disability category indiscriminately across every Area.
Category-wise distribution totals 143 — not 143 plus PwBD
🥧 NLCIL GET 2026 — vertical category allocation across all disciplines
| Vertical reservation category | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (UR) | 68 |
| Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) | 13 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 34 |
| Scheduled Castes (SC) | 20 |
| Scheduled Tribes (ST) | 8 |
The UR row is a vacancy category, not a rule excluding SC/ST/OBC/EWS people from competing on open merit. However, candidates claiming an unreserved seat must satisfy its unrelaxed marks/age standards, except fee treatment where specified. Category reservation is not interchangeable with GATE paper eligibility or with the one-Area application choice.
Degree eligibility — the four original degree routes
| Discipline / GATE paper | Precisely listed engineering degrees |
|---|---|
| Mechanical — ME | Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical & Production Engineering |
| Electrical — EE | Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Power Engineering |
| Civil — CE | Bachelor's in Civil Engineering or Civil & Structural Engineering |
| Mining — MN | Bachelor's in Mining Engineering |
The notice expressly permits full-time or part-time Bachelor's qualifications in each of these advertised branches from a recognized Indian institution, subject to the UGC/AICTE or other competent statutory approval. It does not generally accept substitute, combined or 'equivalent' engineering branches beyond those named. An Electrical applicant, for example, should not assume that an Electronics-only or Instrumentation degree has automatically been notified; the title on the qualification and the listed branch must match.
Minimum aggregate engineering percentage: 60% for UR/EWS/OBC-NCL and 50% for eligible SC/ST candidates, calculated from all years/semesters/trimesters, without rounding up. A displayed 59.99% does not meet a 60% requirement. The percentage is assessed on the actual university record; where only CGPA/GPA/CQPI is awarded, the applicant must convert to the correct equivalent percentage. The advertisement gives a 10-point example of 6.0 = 60% and rejects rounding. SC/ST applicants competing for UR seats cannot use their reserved-category percentage concession for an unreserved post.
Degree must already be passed by 1 November 2026, the advertisement's crucial date. Results pending on that date cannot be reclassified as completed qualifications just because the applicant receives a certificate before the November or December registration window ends. Only GATE 2025 marks count; a score from GATE 2024 or GATE 2026 does not replace it. The registration process specifically requests the GATE 2025 Registration Number and Score Card.
Age limits on 1 November 2026
| Category | Standard upper age (years) |
|---|---|
| UR / EWS | 30 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 33 |
| SC | 35 |
| ST | 35 |
PwBD applicants with benchmark disability of at least 40% have the notified upper-age concessions of 10 years (or 13 for PwBD-OBC and 15 for PwBD-SC/ST, subject to rules). Ex-servicemen receive applicable Government of India relaxation. All relaxations are capped at a maximum permitted age of 58 years on the crucial date. The original notice does not publish an independent minimum-age requirement for this recruitment; do not assume a customary minimum of 18 or 21 years in place of the prescribed degree and date conditions.
OBC Creamy Layer candidates must indicate UR and cannot claim OBC-NCL benefits. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates obtained on or after 1 April 2026 are required at document verification; candidates must also have valid category evidence to substantiate the claims entered on the application. Once submitted, the recruitment category cannot be changed. For PwBD, a valid UDID/disability certificate and the specific suitability stated in the notice are important; Annexure-I must be read alongside the area/discipline vacancy table.
Salary, induction and three-year transfer restriction
The recruitment begins with a one-year training period in E-2 at initial Basic Pay ₹50,000 per month, on an E-2 pay scale of ₹50,000–₹1,60,000. The notice separately promises applicable Dearness Allowance and a Common Allowance equal to 35% of Basic Pay during training. Its stated approximate annual CTC is ₹14.50 lakh; the CTC is not identical to cash salary received in hand and cannot be used as a guaranteed monthly net amount. Medical benefits for the employee/dependents, group insurance, annual performance-related pay and accommodation subject to availability/rules are described by NLCIL.
After successful completion of the one-year training, the GET is to be absorbed into E-3, with initial Basic Pay ₹60,000 per month and E-3 scale ₹60,000–₹1,80,000. The advertisement additionally describes superannuation benefits of 30% of Basic Pay plus DA in this grade. This is a post-training progression: it is not an offer to a fresh joining GET of ₹60,000 Basic Pay on day one.
📊 NLCIL GET — initial monthly basic pay by stage (₹)
| Employment stage | Monthly initial basic pay (INR) |
|---|---|
| E-2: during first-year training | 50000 |
| E-3: after successful training | 60000 |
Mobility: selected candidates can be posted at NLCIL-controlled locations within their chosen recruitment Area according to organizational needs. They cannot request transfer to a different company plant, unit or office for the first three years from joining. This transfer rule and the service bond below are distinct obligations with different starting points.
₹3 lakh Service Agreement Bond: the period starts after training
Selected GETs must execute a ₹3,00,000 Service Agreement Bond on joining. It obliges them to serve the company for a minimum of three years after completion of training. Read the wording carefully: one year of training + at least three post-training service years is not the same as a generic three-year period measured from the first joining day. Transfer of an existing employer bond may be an option for some State/Central PSE or government/quasi-government employees who supply the mandatory NOC at verification and satisfy the company's conditions. The advertisement does not say that every new recruit can waive the bond.
Fee payable — compare the total, not only the application component
📊 NLCIL GET 2026 — complete compulsory online fee by category (₹)
| Applicant fee category | Total amount (INR) |
|---|---|
| UR / EWS / OBC-NCL | 854 |
| SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-servicemen | 354 |
UR/EWS/OBC-NCL: ₹500 application fee + ₹354 processing fee (₹300 plus 18% GST) = ₹854. SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-servicemen are exempt from the ₹500 application component, but the ₹354 processing amount still applies. These amounts are non-refundable, excluding any extra bank service charges. There is no blanket waiver for all women in this advertisement. Payment is through the notified SBI e-Collect online facility as part of the NLCIL procedure.
How the GATE 2025 + Interview process works
The complete selection is GATE 2025 score (80 marks) + Personal Interview (20 marks). This is a weighting of an already-held examination plus a recruitment interview: NLCIL is not scheduling a new written test in this advertisement.
📊 NLCIL GET 2026 — contribution to final merit out of 100
| Final merit component | Maximum weighted marks |
|---|---|
| GATE 2025 score | 80 |
| Personal Interview | 20 |
First screening: eligibility, degree branch and GATE 2025 score are checked for the specific discipline and Area. NLCIL shortlists for interview in a ratio of 1:6 or, where applicable, 1:10 against notified vacancies, with applicable reservation. This is a shortlisting ratio and not a fixed number of job offers or a claim that every eligible applicant is interviewed.
Independent Area lists: the four Areas conduct shortlisting by their own available seats. The same GATE marks cannot be moved between Areas after application: a candidate who selects Area-3 cannot claim an Area-1 vacancy based merely on a higher GATE result. The notice explicitly states that where multiple registrations/applications across Areas exist, the latest application alone will be considered, but this must not be understood as permission to pursue parallel Area choices.
Interview: shortlisted candidates attend document/certificate verification and personal interview. The interview has a maximum of 20 weighted marks. The final 100-mark score is the total of the GATE component out of 80 and the interview component out of 20, ensuring the relevant reservation roster. No interview calendar, venue or interview-stage qualifying cutoff is published in these six pages.
Tie: if final marks are equal at the cutoff, the older candidate ranks ahead. If still tied, the alphabetical order of first names is the next criterion—not a fabricated extra examination or arbitrary GATE rank rule. Medical fitness by NLCIL's medical officer is compulsory before appointment, and documentary eligibility remains subject to verification throughout.
Travel expenses: the notice provides reimbursement of second-class sleeper train fare or bus fare by the shortest route for candidates attending personal interview, upon producing the prescribed ticket/proof and any applicable employer NOC. This is not a free travel guarantee for every applicant or a pre-interview advance.
Documents and upload formats — small-file limits matter
| Document | File type | Maximum permitted size |
|---|---|---|
| Passport colour photo, 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm (taken after 1 March 2026) | JPEG | 50 KB |
| Signature in dark blue or black ink | JPEG | 50 KB |
| Date of birth proof | PDF / JPG | 250 KB |
| Aadhaar card | PDF / JPG | 250 KB |
| SSLC/Matriculation marksheet and certificate | 2.5 MB | |
| HSC or Diploma documents | 2.5 MB | |
| Engineering degree/provisional/final degree certificates | 2.5 MB | |
| Consolidated or semester-wise degree marksheets | 2.5 MB | |
| GATE 2025 Score Card | PDF / JPG | 250 KB |
| Community (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS), if applicable | PDF / JPG | 250 KB |
| Disability/UDID proof, if applicable | PDF / JPG | 250 KB |
| Ex-servicemen proof, if applicable | PDF / JPG | 250 KB |
Applicants must upload legible, self-attested copies. If multiple certificates support one qualification, the notice instructs candidates to arrange them chronologically in a single PDF. Uploading several files to a field may overwrite earlier documents so that only the last upload survives. Keep original records and a printout of the submitted registration/application for document verification. Official NOC is required at verification for candidates working with Government, quasi-government, State/Central PSEs and other covered employers; absence may bar attendance at interview. Unverifiable category, degree, marks or GATE evidence can lead to rejection.
Where to apply and what happens next
Apply only through NLC India Limited's own website, www.nlcindia.in, under Careers. Keep your registered personal email and mobile number active throughout the selection because the company uses email/SMS to communicate. Use GATE 2025 Registration Number, name, email and phone to register once; select one Area, fill category/education details, upload evidence, pay the stipulated fee and finish final submission within its own conditional deadline. There is no paper/hardcopy application submission to the recruiting office.
NLCIL's Recruitment Cell provides help.recruitment@nlcindia.in for genuine recruitment clarifications. The notice places exclusive litigation jurisdiction in Chennai. It reserves the company's authority to revise or cancel vacancies and modify the recruitment when organizational requirements justify doing so, so candidates should use the official Careers page for any later corrigendum or schedule. A future call letter, interview list, select list or result is not presumed released merely because the selection stages are described here.
Points applicants should verify before paying
- Is the exact engineering degree among the listed names, including the expressly accepted part-time route where applicable? A broadly related degree is not enough by default.
- Was the qualifying degree already passed by 1 November 2026, and is the GATE 2025 paper the same as the selected engineering discipline?
- Does the chosen Area actually show vacancies for that discipline in the 12-row matrix? Mining candidates, for example, have only the Area-2 option.
- Is the 60%/50% aggregate requirement met without rounding, and do you possess the supporting final degree/conversion documents?
- Are your age and category-certificate dates correct under the 1 November cut-off and the separate 1 April 2026 proof conditions?
- Have you planned around the distinct registration, payment and final-submission times, rather than relying on the last date alone?
- Do you accept the three-year no-transfer period from joining, the ₹3 lakh bond requiring three post-training service years, and the possibility of posting anywhere within the selected Area?
- Are photo, signature, GATE scorecard, degree, reservation proof and relevant NOC ready in the exact specified file types and sizes?

Exact engineering degree and GATE paper
A full-time or part-time Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical & Production Engineering from a recognized Indian university/institute is required. The corresponding qualifying GATE 2025 paper is ME. Mechanical and Mechanical & Production graduates with GATE paper ME. Do not use an unrelated production, industrial or mechatronics branch unless its awarded degree is exactly one of the two named degrees. The qualification, including result, must have been completed by 1 November 2026, not merely by the later application closing date. UR/EWS/OBC-NCL require at least 60% aggregate and eligible SC/ST require at least 50%, without rounding; unreserved competition uses unrelaxed eligibility requirements. The employer has not made prior work experience an essential requirement.
Selection for this specific Area
First, NLCIL prepares the A1-specific shortlist using GATE 2025 marks and the advertised category roster, generally calling candidates in a 1:6 or 1:10 ratio for interview. Applicants to another Area are not transferable into this list even if their GATE score is higher. Final merit combines 80 marks for GATE 2025 and 20 marks for Personal Interview, followed by original-document checks, medical fitness and appointment. No new written test, subject-wise question paper, exam centre or examination calendar has been announced by NLCIL for this recruitment.
Pay, commitment and postings
The selected candidate begins with one year of Grade E-2 training, ₹50,000 initial monthly basic on the ₹50,000–₹1,60,000 scale, plus the notified DA and Common Allowance of 35% of basic pay. NLCIL indicates approximately ₹14.50 lakh annual CTC for this grade, not a guaranteed take-home monthly salary. After successful training the employee moves to Grade E-3, initially ₹60,000 basic on the ₹60,000–₹1,80,000 scale. A ₹3 lakh service bond requires at least three years of service after training. Applicants cannot seek transfer to a different plant/unit/office for three years from their original joining date.
Posting: NLCIL thermal power stations in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh; no promise of a specific plant or city.
Reservation and evidence
For this combination the suitable-disability categories and any brought-forward PwBD places must be checked against the official page-1 PwBD footnotes and Annexure-I. The Annexure explicitly excepts Area-2; no cross-Area PwBD assumption is valid. If claiming age or category concessions, the application and certificates must support the claim. Basic upper age on 1 November 2026 is 30 for UR/EWS, 33 for OBC-NCL and 35 for SC/ST (with the further specific PwBD/ESM provisions subject to a total 58-year cap). Keep the GATE 2025 scorecard, degree certificate, all semester marksheets, category proof where applicable, and supporting NOC if currently in a covered public-sector/government role.
Before choosing this post
You may select only one recruitment Area. Choose A1 only if this Mechanical / GATE ME combination corresponds to your awarded degree and intended area of service. Registration ends 14 December 2026 at 17:00, fee payment closes the same day at 23:45, and the extension to 16 December 2026 at 17:00 applies only after timely registration and payment. The correct full fee is ₹854 for UR/EWS/OBC-NCL and ₹354 for SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-servicemen (the processing fee still applies).

First, NLCIL prepares the A2-specific shortlist using GATE 2025 marks and the advertised category roster, generally calling candidates in a 1:6 or 1:10 ratio for interview.
Posting: NLCIL mines and allied-services projects in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Jharkhand or Odisha; branch-office placement is not fixed in the notice.

Exact engineering degree and GATE paper
A full-time or part-time Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Power Engineering from a recognized Indian university/institute is required. The corresponding qualifying GATE 2025 paper is EE. Electrical, Electrical & Electronics, and Power Engineering graduates with paper EE. A degree labeled only Electronics, Electronics & Communication or Instrumentation is not automatically included.
First, NLCIL prepares the A4-specific shortlist using GATE 2025 marks and the advertised category roster, generally calling candidates in a 1:6 or 1:10 ratio for interview.
Posting: NLCIL services/support establishments in various states; precise office allocated by NLCIL.
