About this Recruitment

Recruitment-specific overview from the published record.

TGPSC MPSO / Assistant Statistical Officer Recruitment 2026: 102 Zonal Vacancies, Complete Official Eligibility, Exam Syllabus and Application Guide

Primary evidence: Telangana Public Service Commission, Hyderabad, original 35-page Notification 07/G/ES/2026 dated 28 October 2026, supplied for this recruitment. The scheme is a single notified recruitment for Mandal Planning and Statistical Officers / Assistant Statistical Officers in the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Telangana—not two independent lists of 102 each. Online applications open 30 October 2026 and close 27 November 2026 at 5:00 PM. January 2027 is only the tentative examination month; the Commission has not published an exact examination date in this notice.

2. Seven-zone vacancy matrix: the exact 102, not a statewide lump sum

The official Annexure-I separates UR/non-local and L/local columns for seven zonal cadres. Each zone contains one vacancy under the UR column; the separate L columns together show 95. These are column labels in the official roster, not a claim that an applicant may choose any zone without local-status verification.

Why this matters: The publicized '95% local reservation' is a rule tied to zonal local candidature. A person living in Telangana is not automatically local to all seven zones. Their local status depends on the notification's four-/seven-year study or residence rules and the applicable qualifying-exam period. Conversely, a non-Telangana candidate is not granted Telangana SC/ST/BC/EWS state reservation simply because the same social category appears on a certificate from another State (Sections 4.17 and 5). The zone, category, document and web-option fields must agree.

3. Full category rows from Annexure-I, including the special CF notation

The following is the L column breakdown exactly as presented at Annexure-I. The official paper places VH and HH entries in its roster alongside other heads; do not reclassify these values into a new 102-seat total or silently double count them. 'HH (1 CF)' is the single carry-forward hearing-handicapped entry in Zone VI. The seven UR entries (one per zone) are above this table, not included again below.

The OC L-column is 32 seats; seven UR-column entries are additional, for 39 OC/UR-column appearances in the combined raw grid. However, reservation and horizontal-disability rules must be interpreted from the notification's legal provisions, not just by summing acronyms. If category-specific counseling or final rosters change, follow Commission corrigenda, not extrapolations. SC classifications are explicitly split into SC Group I, Group II and Group III as in the state notification.

4. What degree makes you eligible? Five distinct routes, one essential Statistics condition

Under Section 3.2 (original p. 3) a candidate must have one of these recognised Bachelor's routes:

Bachelor's main subjectStatistics requirement
StatisticsStatistics is a main subject
MathematicsMathematics main, Statistics as a paper for one, two or three years as applicable
EconomicsEconomics main, Statistics as a paper for one, two or three years
CommerceCommerce main, Statistics as a paper for one, two or three years
Computer ScienceComputer Science main, Statistics as a paper for one, two or three years

Hard cut-off: Section 3.1 requires the qualification on 28 October 2026; Section 3.2 explicitly says appearing in a degree exam or the university still processing marks does not satisfy it. Distance/open degrees require recognition from the competent statutory bodies (UGC/AICTE/DEB as appropriate). 'Equivalent' degree claims are referred to an Expert Committee; an applicant should not self-certify an unnotified branch as equivalent.

Seven worked eligibility decisions (illustrative, not Commission rulings)

  1. B.Sc. Statistics main subject, result declared 20 Oct: Academic route satisfied if the degree is otherwise recognised; age, caste/local status and other requirements still apply.
  2. B.Sc. Mathematics main subject, Statistics paper in one qualifying year: The notified alternate route expressly allows one/two/three years of Statistics as applicable. Keep complete semester marksheets to demonstrate it.
  3. B.Com. main subject, Statistics paper in second year: Potentially covered under the Commerce alternative, assuming the degree/result was declared by 28 Oct.
  4. B.Sc. Computer Science main, no Statistics paper anywhere: Not shown as eligible by the alternative Computer Science route; coding/data experience cannot replace the specified Statistics paper.
  5. B.A. Economics main, only general mathematics but no Statistics paper: The notice does not authorise substituting Mathematics for Statistics in this route.
  6. Statistics-qualified degree; final result posted 29 Oct: Not eligible under the published 28 Oct qualification cutoff even if the exam was physically taken earlier.
  7. Recognised open-university degree with proper Statistics: Ask the issuing university for evidence of the applicable UGC/DEB/AICTE recognition; education mode alone is neither an automatic approval nor an automatic rejection.

Practical check: Compare your university transcript subject names/year-wise papers against one route before paying. Preserve a copy showing result-declaration date, not just examination date.

5. Age boundary and relaxation: work from 1 July 2026, not the application deadline

The advertisement specifies minimum 18 years / maximum 44 years as of 1 July 2026. It makes the boundaries explicit: not born after 1 July 2008 for the minimum; not born before 2 July 1982 for the unrelaxed upper age. The latter distinction matters at the oldest edge.

Eligible categoryAdvertised upper-age relaxation
SC / ST / BC / EWS5 years
Persons with Disabilities10 years
Telangana State Government employeesUp to 5 years, depending on eligible regular service; corporations and municipalities excluded
Ex-servicemen3 years plus eligible armed-forces service, subject to the notification's deduction rules
NCC instructors3 years plus eligible NCC service, subject to statutory limits

Worked checks: An unreserved applicant born 2 July 1982 meets the advertised upper DOB boundary; born 1 July 1982 does not. A candidate born 1 July 2008 meets the minimum age boundary, but born 2 July 2008 does not. An SC applicant older than 44 must validate documentary eligibility for the 5-year concession—this is not automatic permission to ignore the superannuation limit or other criteria. For combined exemptions (for example disability plus caste), do not invent additive relaxation; follow Commission rules and certificate verification.

6. Fees are substantially higher than earlier TGPSC advertisements: calculate both components

Original Section 8 (p. 9): OC and BC processing fee ₹1,000; SC, ST, PwD processing fee ₹500. ₹80 examination fee is payable by employed applicants in government, PSU, corporation and other government-sector employment, while unemployed applicants are exempt from the examination fee. The notice does not separately spell out an EWS processing-fee slab, so do not manufacture one; verify the actual payable amount when the official application gateway resolves your category.

Candidate situationProcessing feeExam feeTotal
OC or BC, employed₹1,000₹80₹1,080
OC or BC, unemployed₹1,000₹0₹1,000
SC/ST/PwD, employed₹500₹80₹580
SC/ST/PwD, unemployed₹500₹0₹500

View bar chart: total fee for four declared candidate scenarios

Candidate scenarioTotal fee (INR)
OC/BC, employed1080
OC/BC, unemployed1000
SC/ST/PwD, employed580
SC/ST/PwD, unemployed500

Example 1: An unemployed BC candidate does not get a zero-fee form: ₹1,000 processing fee remains. Example 2: A government employee who claims to be 'unemployed' to skip the ₹80 component conflicts with the stated rule. Example 3: A PwD unemployed candidate pays the ₹500 processing amount even though the exam fee is waived, unless an official subsequent order changes the notice. All fees once paid are nonrefundable, and failure to pay whichever components apply can invalidate an application. Payment choices: net banking, credit card, debit card, UPI via TGPSC portal.

7. Application process: OTR is not final application

  1. Register or confirm existing One Time Registration (OTR) at TGPSC and obtain your TGPSC ID. OTR alone is explicitly not an application for this notification (Section 1.4).
  2. Enter the application link specifically for 07/G/ES/2026, using TGPSC ID, date of birth and OTP on the registered phone.
  3. Review pre-populated OTR information: name, DOB, recognised degree/Statistics paper, community, gender, disability, sports/ESM and local candidature; errors in saved application are applicant responsibility.
  4. Select an exam centre from the published list; check the details of the post and available zone/preferences if requested by the form.
  5. Preview, use SAVE & PAYMENT, pay applicable processing/exam fees by gateway, then complete CONFIRM & SUBMIT. Section 7.8 warns that missing this action may leave details unrecorded.
  6. Download and preserve the generated application PDF and its Reference ID. An OTR screenshot or payment receipt alone is not equivalent to the finally submitted form.
  7. Confirm submission before 27 November 2026 at 5:00 PM, not 11:59 PM; changes to OTR after submitting this notification's application do not retroactively correct that submitted form.

Exam city choices listed in Section 10: Hyderabad including HMDA, Karimnagar, Khammam, Warangal and Nizamabad; the Commission may change or allot another centre for administrative reasons, and requests to change a centre are not entertained.

Upload checklist (Annexure-VI pp. 32–33): recent colour passport photo no older than 3 months and 100–200 KB, signature 20–30 KB, JPG or PNG; all details and Certificates relevant to route. Certificate verification may require signed submitted PDF, hall ticket, photo ID, educational records, SSC DOB proof, class I–VII study/residence proof, unemployment declaration, NOC from employer, eligible service proof, caste/local/BC Non-Creamy Layer/EWS/SADAREM certificates and other documents, as applicable. Never upload irrelevant certificates or claim unearned relaxations.

8. Official examination architecture — 300 questions and 300 marks

Annexure-II p. 15 gives two objective papers. Each is 150 questions / 150 minutes / 150 marks. All papers are compulsory. The notice allows either CBRT or OMR and will announce the mode later; multiple-session CBRT scores may be normalized using Annexure-VII. There is no explicit negative-marking rule printed in the supplied 35-page notification; avoid assuming a −¼ or −⅓ penalty.

Minimum qualifying percentages (Section 12.2) are 40% OC/Sportspersons/EWS; 35% BC; 30% SC/ST/PH. On a straight 300-mark unnormalized scale these correspond to 120, 105, 90 marks respectively. These are minimum eligibility thresholds, not predicted job cutoff or a seat guarantee. Notification 12.4 has a separate clause for SC/ST selection consideration when minimum qualifying marks are not achieved; do not replace that conditional legal rule with an invented universal passing score. The later web-option/local allotment, ties, verification and Commission decisions remain decisive.

9. Paper-I: all 13 official syllabus headings, without an invented per-topic weightage

The exact Annexure-II list is:

  1. Current Affairs: regional, national and international.
  2. International Relations and Events.
  3. General Science; India's achievements in Science and Technology.
  4. Environment and Disaster Management.
  5. Economy of India and Telangana.
  6. Geography of India, focus on Telangana.
  7. Indian Constitution and Polity, focus on local self-government.
  8. Society, Culture, Heritage, Arts and Literature of Telangana.
  9. Policies of Telangana State.
  10. History of Modern India, focus on National Movement.
  11. History of Telangana, specially Movement for Statehood.
  12. Logical Reasoning, Analytical Ability and Data Interpretation.
  13. Basic English.

Paper-I study method: For every Telangana policy or economic update, record its issue date, nodal department, geographic coverage and measurable outcome; compare with an India-level analogue. Practice data interpretation using mock district statistics, but never present hypothetical data as actual TGPSC figures. Reasoning practice should explain the elimination method and why distractors fail. The notice does not specify an official question count or marks per heading, so any commercial weightage table is coaching guidance, not the notification.

10. Paper-II: all eight degree-level Statistics and computing domains

Annexure-II p. 16 is the authoritative syllabus; it covers the following eight major domains.

Official domainTestable skills and subtopics from notice
I. Introduction to StatisticsScope and limits, data collection, primary/secondary data, census vs samples, random/nonrandom sampling, schedules/questionnaires, frequency tables and charts
II. Central Tendency, Dispersion, Skewness, KurtosisArithmetic/geometric/harmonic means, median, mode, deciles, percentiles; range, quartile/mean deviations, SD, CV; Karl Pearson/Bowley skewness
III. ProbabilitySample space, events and set algebra, basic probability theorems, conditional/independent events, Bayes' theorem
IV. Random Variables and InferenceDiscrete/continuous variables; Bernoulli, Binomial, Poisson, Normal; unbiasedness, consistency, efficiency, sufficiency; small/large sample tests, null/alternative hypotheses
V. Correlation and RegressionKarl Pearson correlation, Spearman rank correlation, probable error, regression equations and coefficient interpretation
VI. Time Series and Index NumbersTrend/seasonal components, decomposition, index construction, price/quantity index, adequacy tests, deflating, cost-of-living indices
VII. Sampling TechniquesCensus vs sampling, sample size and simple, stratified, systematic random sampling
VIII. ComputersBinary/octal/hexadecimal conversions, bits/bytes/memory, logic/arithmetic, bit operators, algorithms, flowcharts and MS Office

The source prints a typo like 'Shit/Rotate' in the computing list; it plainly concerns computer bit operations, but the applicant should consult the original annexure rather than depend on a modified wording. This article does not fabricate a list of prescribed software packages beyond the notice's MS Office reference.

11. Degree-level Statistics: 12 original solved practice cases

These are editorially written exercises to teach the official listed topics; they are not previous-year TGPSC questions and have no claimed official marks or difficulty weighting.

Case A — Central tendency

A survey has observations 8, 10, 10, 12, 15. Total 55, so mean 11; ordered middle value median 10; most frequent observation mode 10. Mean exceeds median because the relatively high value 15 pulls it upward. Repeating the formula alone is less useful than interpreting the direction of skew.

Case B — Population variance versus sample variance

For the same five observations, squared deviations from 11 sum to 28. Population variance is 28/5 = 5.6 and population SD ≈ 2.366. Sample variance is 28/(5−1) = 7 and sample SD ≈ 2.646. Identify whether the problem treats those five as a whole population or a sample before choosing the denominator.

Case C — Coefficient of variation

District A's mean yield is 20 and SD 4; CV is (4/20)×100 = 20%. District B's mean is 12 and SD 3; CV is 25%. Though B has a lower absolute SD, its relative variability is greater. The comparison only makes sense where the means are meaningful and nonzero.

Case D — Conditional probability and Bayes

In a hypothetical screening exercise, prevalence is 2%, sensitivity is 95% and false-positive rate is 5%. For 10,000 cases: 200 truly affected, 190 test positive; 9,800 unaffected, 490 false-positive. Among 680 positive tests, probability of truly affected is 190/680 ≈ 27.94%. Do not confuse sensitivity (95%) with the positive predictive value.

Case E — Binomial distribution

An independent trial has success probability p = 0.4. With three trials, probability of exactly two successes is C(3,2)×0.4²×0.6 = 0.288. Check that the wording supports independent, equal-probability trials; otherwise a binomial model is not justified.

Case F — Poisson model

An event occurs at hypothetical rate λ = 2 per period. Probability of zero events is e^(−2) ≈ 0.1353. A useful follow-up asks when independence and a stable event rate are reasonable assumptions rather than always assuming Poisson.

Case G — Normal-standardisation

A hypothetical indicator is Normal with mean 50, SD 10. Observed 65 has z = (65−50)/10 = 1.5. The z score means 1.5 standard deviations above mean; it is not a 150% performance gain.

Case H — Correlation interpretation

If a sample's Pearson r = −0.8, the linear association is strongly negative, while r² = 0.64 indicates 64% of sample variation may be described by the fitted simple linear relationship under its assumptions. Correlation alone does not establish a cause, and a strong nonlinear relation can show a weaker Pearson r.

Case I — Regression equation

Given a simple fitted equation Y = 5 + 2X, X = 7 predicts Y = 19. The slope means a one-unit increase in X corresponds to a 2-unit modeled rise in predicted Y, not that any intervention causing X to rise will necessarily cause Y to rise by 2.

Case J — Index number

A basket with base-period expenditure 400 and comparable current-period expenditure 460 has simple aggregate index 460/400 × 100 = 115, i.e. a 15% increase under matched basket assumptions. Do not mix changing quantities with a fixed-basket index without naming the method.

Case K — Systematic sampling

With a list of N = 1,000 units and target n = 100, interval k = 10. Randomly select a start between 1 and 10 (example 6), then sample 6,16,26,…,996. This can introduce periodicity bias if the ordered list has a repeating structure aligned to k; a random start alone does not eliminate that risk.

Case L — Computer number systems

Binary 101101₂ equals 1×32 + 0×16 + 1×8 + 1×4 + 0×2 + 1 = 45₁₀. Decimal 45 equals hexadecimal 2D₁₆ (2×16+13). Practise converting the same value in binary, decimal, octal and hexadecimal, then check binary arithmetic and logical operators without a calculator.

12. Five original reasoning + Telangana-context question methods

  1. Price versus quantity: A price rise of 20% and quantity fall of 10% change expenditure by 1.20×0.90 = 1.08 or an 8% rise, not 10%; classify the question as multiplicative change, not arithmetic subtraction.
  2. Population percentage: A hypothetical district's population rises from 2.4 lakh to 2.7 lakh. Increase = 0.3 lakh / 2.4 lakh = 12.5%. The example is fictional and not an official census figure.
  3. Policy comparison: When two schemes differ on target households, financial cost and implementing department, use a three-column evidence grid rather than memorising slogan names. The notice names Telangana policies as a syllabus area but no scheme-specific list.
  4. Constitution: For a gram panchayat question, first identify whether the topic concerns Constitutional framework, State legislation or an administrative circular. Do not conflate constitutional principles with every state-specific power.
  5. Data interpretation: Percentages across zones should use clearly defined denominators. Charminar has 25 of the 102 notified vacancies, so its vacancy share is 25/102 ≈ 24.51%. That says nothing about the zone's population or exam difficulty.

13. A transparent 30-day integrated preparation calendar

Day rangePaper-I cyclePaper-II cycleVerifiable outcome
Days 1–5Telangana geography, current affairs, basic EnglishDescriptive statistics and frequency tables50 objective questions + five solved central-tendency problems per day
Days 6–10Polity, local government, Telangana policyProbability, random variables, Bayes and distributionsRework missed Bayes/binomial questions from first principles
Days 11–15Economy, science, environmentEstimation, hypothesis testing, sampling designWrite assumptions beside each formula before calculating
Days 16–20Telangana movement, Indian history, cultureCorrelation, regression, time series and indicesOne mock dataset daily; distinguish descriptive from inferential claims

Days 26–30Integrated GS revision and current updatesTwo full 150-minute paper rehearsalsError notebook grouped into concept, calculation, reading and time-management mistakes

Why no guessed negative penalty strategy: This source does not publish a negative marking coefficient. Allocate time according to a timed practice baseline, revise weak topics, and follow the hall-ticket/Commission instructions if a subsequent paper-specific scoring rule is announced. The study calendar above is editorial advice, not an official TGPSC timetable.

14. Qualifying scores, ranking, local tie-break and normalization: applicant worked cases

Qualifying score illustration: OC candidate earns 121/300 → above the 120 straight-scale minimum; 119/300 → below. BC candidate earns 106 → above the 105 straight-scale minimum, whereas a 104 score does not. SC/ST/PH minimum is 90/300 subject to the notice's exception concerning SC/ST. None of these examples is a prediction of selection. If normalization is required, the notified procedure and Commission result control the actual score/rank.

Ranking illustration: Candidate A and B each score 210. If A is local to Telangana under the applicable classification and B is not, Section 12.6 ranks local status before age. If local status also matches, the older applicant ranks higher. Only after score, local and DOB ties does the notice compare Paper-II subject marks, then passing date and percentage in the required degree, higher qualification and its dates/marks in the stated order. A social-media claim that 'higher Statistics marks always win first' would omit the preceding tie-break rules.

Question-key objection: Following the objective test, TGPSC may publish the provisional key and allow objections within its later announced window. Each raised question costs ₹500 through online gateway; a genuinely sustained objection's fee is reimbursed. After final key, further objections are not entertained. Deleted-question marks are reallocated proportionally per Section 11.6 and computed up to three decimal places. No objection dates are announced in this notice.

CBRT normalization: Section 1.6 and Annexure-VII describe the method for multiple-session tests. It is not accurate to apply normalization indiscriminately to a single-session OMR exam. The annexure is a procedural framework; the final test mode, session count and published Commission score method must determine an applicant's final merit.

15. Hall tickets, answer keys, result and appointment lifecycle — future, not yet issued

The Commission says hall tickets may be downloaded from seven days before the exam until 5:00 PM the previous day. As the exact exam date is not announced, there is no valid fixed admit-card date. The notice anticipates provisional answer-key objection, final key, OMR/response-image access, merit and original-certificate verification, but has not released any corresponding 2027 documents on the face of this 28 October PDF. SarkariSapna must publish linked result/admit/key entities only when original new releases exist—not automatically because a generic timeline exists.

Successful written performance does not exempt the applicant from document verification, medical fitness and satisfactory antecedents. There is no waiting list under Section 13.1; unfilled/nonjoining seats go to the next recruitment as prescribed. The candidate must be willing to serve anywhere in Telangana, and web-option/preference allotment is governed by vacancies, local/reservation rules and the Commission's decision.

16. 12 common mistakes that cause preventable rejection

  1. Treating OTR registration as an application rather than submitting this notification's form.
  2. Counting degree exam attendance as a pass when the result was not declared on 28 October.
  3. Applying under Mathematics/Economics/Commerce/Computer Science route without an actual Statistics paper.
  4. Misunderstanding '95% local' as a separate eligibility ban on all nonlocal applicants or claiming local status without proof.
  5. Assuming no payment for unemployed applicants: only the ₹80 examination fee is waived.
  6. Claiming Telangana category reservation using only another State's certificate.
  7. Setting the age on 27 Nov instead of 1 July 2026.
  8. Paying but failing the portal's CONFIRM & SUBMIT step or not saving the generated PDF/reference.
  9. Uploading a photo outside the officially printed 100–200 KB or signature outside 20–30 KB constraints.
  10. Assuming a published negative-marking ratio without any such ratio stated in the supplied notice.
  11. Absent from Paper-I or Paper-II: Section 12.5 makes participation in all examination papers compulsory.
  12. Treating January 2027 as an exact exam date, rather than a tentative month pending an official update.

17. Candidate FAQ — answer from the notification, not older recruitment cycles

Q: Can a B.Com graduate apply? Yes only through the specified Commerce-main route with Statistics as paper in the qualifying years, and recognised degree/result by 28 October 2026.

Q: Is a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science without Statistics sufficient? No, that combination does not meet the particular alternative printed in the notice; an official equivalence committee may rule on other submissions but applicants should not presume approval.

Q: Can candidates from outside Telangana apply? The notice does not state a blanket application prohibition, but persons from other States cannot claim Telangana reservation and are subject to applicable zonal-local rules.

Q: Is there an interview? A separate interview stage is not specified; Section 12 bases selection on objective examination merit, web-option allocation and verification requirements.

Q: How many jobs are in MPSO compared with ASO? The Commission announces 102 together, not a post-name-wise 51+51 or another invented split.

Q: Do both papers have negative marking? The uploaded 35-page notice does not explicitly announce negative marking, so follow later Commission directions rather than assume a numerical deduction.

Q: Can a student waiting for their final result apply? The PDF explicitly requires the result to have been declared on the notification date, 28 October 2026.

Q: Do unemployed applicants pay a form fee? Yes. They are exempt from the ₹80 examination fee, not the processing fee.

Q: What are the minimum scores? The notified thresholds are 40%, 35% or 30% by category, but they are not final cutoffs and Section 12.4 provides a conditional provision concerning SC/ST merit consideration.

Q: How to verify new dates or corrections? Use the official TGPSC site and the Direct Recruitment notification index; do not rely on a mirrored PDF or social-post deadline.

MPSO / ASO — Combined 102 Zonal Posts

Official notification 07/G/ES/2026, dated 28 October 2026, does not split the 102 seats into two unrelated advertised vacancy totals. This is one combined post profile for importing into SarkariSapna; the original seven-zone and reserved-category matrix is maintained below.

Official syllabus and eligibility
