CGPDTM Contract Professional Interview Selection 2026 — Notice 5014

CGPDTM Contract Professional Interview 2026 — Official Selection Rules and Role-Wise Preparation

Applies to: Consultant; Research Associate; Young Professional (Law & IP); Young Professional (Finance), under CGPDTM notice CGPDTM-16014(12)/3/2022-CGOFFICE/5014 dated 5 November 2026. Nature of selection: interview, following scrutiny of applications and verification of original degree and experience documents. Interview date: not announced. Venue announced: Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks, Bouddhik Sampada Bhawan, Plot No. 32, Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi-110078, subject to communicated change.

What is officially prescribed—and what is not

This advertisement does not prescribe a written examination, computer-based test, official multiple-choice pattern, negative marking, written-paper duration, or numerical interview maximum. It describes an interview-based hiring process for highly specific contract jobs. A preparation plan may be organised around the advertised essential and desirable requirements; that is different from claiming the authority issued a formal syllabus.

Stage 1 — scrutiny of applications and proof of eligibility

The authority examines whether the online application was completed in the prescribed window, whether the candidate is an Indian national, and whether the particular role's degree, experience and upper-age conditions are met. Essential education is not identical across the four roles: Consultant requires an eligible science/LL.M.-with-science/BE-BTech route and 15 IPR years; Research Associate accepts a science Master's, BE/BTech or MBA and three IPR years; YP Law & IP accepts Law qualifications or qualifying International Business MBA with the domain criterion and a year of Law-IP research; Finance YP requires a full-time two-year Finance MBA/PGDM and a year of relevant experience. Check age on 1 July 2026 and other eligibility against 16 November 2026.

The notice counts post-qualification experience against the qualification used to apply. Its limited PhD experience credit (up to three years) cannot overlap already-counted work periods. If you pursued two simultaneous activities, maintain a date-accurate record rather than count the same months twice. If you applied for these posts under the notices of 1 February or 5 May 2026, the new notice expressly says those candidates need not reapply because they remain ineligible in the current recruitment year. That unusual condition should be checked with CGPDTM if it affects you.

Stage 2 — possible shortlisting when applications are numerous

Eligible applicants can be invited to interview after scrutiny. Where large numbers are received, the office can shortlist using a 5:1 ratio to sanctioned posts. The three published bases are: academic qualification higher than the essential minimum, relevant experience above the essential minimum, and possession of advertised desirable qualifications. The notice does not give a mathematical scoring formula, guarantee a particular interview-list length, or provide individual percentage weights for these factors. The 5:1 rule is a shortlisting measure, not a five-to-one final selection ratio or assurance of a minimum score.

For the Consultant's single opening, the conceptual 5:1 benchmark would be about five interviewees in an oversubscribed competition; for the two Research Associate openings, about ten. These are arithmetic illustrations of the stated ratio, not officially announced numbers of shortlisted candidates. Actual summons depend on the authority's scrutiny.

Stage 3 — verification on the interview day

CGPDTM will verify qualification testimonials and experience certificates before the interview on the same day. The notice does not provide an exhaustive new online-upload schedule, so applicants must follow the instructions issued with their invitation. Retain degrees, transcripts where relevant, official experience evidence, a clear account of date ranges and any qualifying PhD period so that essential criteria can be checked consistently. The notice does not promise that a valid online application automatically means final eligibility.

Candidates called to the stated New Delhi location should plan travel and accommodation at their own expense: the advertisement explicitly excludes TA/DA for attending interview. Its separate service-related travel reimbursements apply to authorised work tours after engagement, not this recruitment visit.

Stage 4 — the interview, not a fabricated examination

The final interview tests a candidate's suitability; the precise questions or topics are not specified. Based on the published role descriptions, applicants can prepare the following evidence-led discussion areas without treating them as an official question syllabus:

Consultant: senior IPR handling

Develop a clear chronology of at least 15 years of qualifying IPR work, with several non-confidential examples of complex problems, your personal contribution, the decisions supported and the resultant documentation. Prepare to distinguish a science Master's route, an LL.M. plus science graduation route or a BE/BTech route; do not accidentally list all three as compulsory. Evidence of research leadership or extra desirable qualifications can assist the shortlisting discussion.

Research Associate: policy, research and presentation

Have a concrete example showing an IPR research or policy question, selection of credible sources, analytical method, possible limitations, and written or graphical presentation of findings. Competence with high-quality MS Office, PowerPoint, infographics, trend analysis and data governance is specifically desirable in the notice. The essential requirement remains three relevant years after a qualifying science Master's, BE/BTech or MBA; technical presentation ability alone does not replace experience.

Young Professional (Law & IP): research and rule drafting

Be prepared to explain an actual research question or regulatory drafting assignment, sources and legal reasoning, and the distinction between drafting a rule, regulation or court-related reply. The notice wants legal work/drafting familiarity and one year of Law/IP field research. Avoid disclosing confidential case documents. A PhD in Law & IP is desirable, not a compulsory entry route.

Young Professional (Finance): finance qualification and relevant work

Bring evidence that the MBA/PGDM is two years, full-time and in Finance, and explain at least one year of actual relevant work. Applicants can prepare examples of financial analysis, reporting, reconciliation, budgeting or controls they genuinely performed. Such examples are suggestions for telling an accurate professional story, not an asserted official Finance paper or exam topics.

Stage 5 — merit, offer, non-joining and verification

The merit list is prepared on interview marks after assessment; document verification is essential to final appointment. The list is valid for one year. If a selected candidate fails to join within the offered time or resigns after joining, CGPDTM may extend the offer to the next candidate in the merit order. No minimum interview qualifying mark, category cutoff, normalisation formula, waiting-list score or official marking rubric is given in this particular notice. Applicants should not confuse shortlisting preferences with a published breakdown of interview marks.

Conditions to discuss when an offer arrives

All posts are initially one-year contractual engagements and may be extended for successive years subject to annual performance and requirements, never beyond three years under this notice. Remuneration is ₹1,25,000 for Consultant, ₹90,000 for Research Associate and ₹70,000 for either Young Professional, monthly. Annual 10% increments require successful completion and satisfactory performance under the review terms. These are not permanent civil-service pay scales. Full-time availability, confidentiality, rights in work products, normal office hours and 15-day notice/notice-pay termination apply. Young Professionals also face a carefully worded two-year conflict-related cooling-off requirement after their appointment ends.
