APPSC Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector Recruitment 2026 — 50 Posts, Driving Eligibility and Full Official Syllabus

Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (Vijayawada) · Notification 36/2026, 6 November 2026 · Apply online by 26 November 2026, 11:59 PM.

The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission is recruiting 50 Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors (AMVI) for the A.P. Transport Service, distributed among six zonal cadres. For these posts a degree alone is not the full eligibility test: the notification combines Mechanical/Automobile Engineering education, a driving-licence condition, driving experience, physical measurements and unaided eyesight. It also specifies a rare distinction among technical examinations: Paper-II carries twice the marks per question of Paper-I, so a careless assumption that all 300 questions have identical value would mislead preparation and score calculation.

The listed six Open posts are one per zone; the other 44 positions are Local on the advertised roster. Under the notified Presidential Order 2025 system, the local reservation framework operates zonally, with the 95% local reservation rule described in the notice; actual 44/6 seats are the published Annexure-I counts. A candidate should use the printed zone membership and Class VII study/residence rules—not a guessed present-day home district—to assess local status. The Commission may allot eligible candidates by zone preference and applicable selection rules.

Broad vertical groupVacancies
Open Competition19
Scheduled Caste (three subgroups)8

Backward Classes (A, B, D, E)16

This means SC = 8 (SC-I 2, SC-II 4, SC-III 2); BC = 16 (BC-A 5, BC-B 3, BC-D 4, BC-E 4). There are no separately listed BC-C seats. The eight seats specified for women are horizontal reservations—OC women 6, BC-B women 1 and BC-D women 1—and therefore already inside the 50, not a new group of eight vacancies. Women reservations are spread by zone (six OC places, one BC-B in Zone I, and one BC-D in Zone IV). The notice also mentions the 3% Meritorious Sports Persons provision, without adding a separate tally to Annexure-I. The service rules expressly state no PwBD reservation for AMVI posts under the cited order; this is specific to these posts, not a claim about all APPSC jobs.

🎓 Degree or diploma: two different routes to the same post

Route A — Degree: A recognised degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile Engineering, or an officially recognised equivalent qualification within Para 3.

Route B — Diploma: A Diploma in Automobile Engineering from the Andhra Pradesh State Board of Technical Education and Training, the Technological Diploma Examination Board, Hyderabad, or an equivalent qualification accepted under the notified conditions.

Mechanical Engineering diploma alone is not listed as the ordinary diploma alternative. The degree route expressly accepts Mechanical Engineering, whereas the diploma route expressly says Automobile Engineering. Candidates claiming any other equivalent qualification must furnish the relevant Government Order to the Commission within ten days after the application-closing date, as the notice directs. A generic college equivalency assertion is not the same as the required government recognition. The stated academic qualification must be held as of 6 November 2026.

🪪 Motor driving licence — the condition applicants often miss

Para 3 requires a Motor Driving Licence, at least three years' experience driving motor vehicles, and a Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) endorsement as the standard conditions. It then includes two distinct provisos:

  • Driving-experience availability exception: When people with three years' driving experience are unavailable, the rule permits appointment of people with two years' driving experience. This is not a general advance waiver automatically available to every two-year applicant.
  • Specific rule for women: A woman with a Motor Vehicle Driving Licence who holds only a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) Licence may obtain the HTV endorsement within two years of joining, with termination consequences stated if the endorsement is not acquired. This special provision does not erase other educational, experience or medical requirements.

Before applying, check the driving-licence category, original issue/endorsement dates and evidence of driving experience. The notice does not prescribe separate extra marks merely for more than three years of driving. Avoid assuming that any licence with the word “transport” satisfies the exact HTV condition.

📏 Physical measurements and eyesight — not optional documentation

Applicant groupMinimum heightChest on full inspirationMinimum expansion
Men — general standard165 cm86.3 cm5 cm
Men — SC/ST/Aboriginal Tribes160 cm83.8 cm5 cm
Women — general standard157.5 cm82.3 cm5 cm
Women — SC/ST/Aboriginal Tribes152.5 cm79.8 cm5 cm

The chest measurement refers to full inspiration, and the minimum expansion is five centimetres. The standards must be read alongside the appended medical-examination guidance and the competent Medical Board's assessment.

Without glasses, the notice requires 6/6 distance vision separately in the right and left eyes, 0.5 near vision (Snellen) in each eye, and a full field of vision. Colour blindness, squint and other notified eye conditions are disqualifying under the AMVI rules; the notice additionally cites knock-knees, pigeon chest, flat-foot, varicose veins, hammer toes, fractured limbs and decayed teeth. The appended medical guidelines amplify how candidates are measured and examined. This is not a claim that a privately obtained fitness certificate automatically guarantees APPSC medical approval; the official medical authority determines fitness.

🎂 Age and reservation eligibility

Applicants must be 21–36 years old as on 1 July 2026. The advertised five-year upper-age concession applies to eligible SC, ST, BC and EWS candidates. The notice separately specifies service-linked deductions for eligible ex-servicemen/NCC instructors, up to five years' eligible regular A.P. state government service, and a three-year concession for qualifying retrenched temporary Census personnel. Each is subject to the precise conditions printed in Para 5; a generic “all government workers get five years” statement is not accurate.

Zone-based local reservation requires records of Class I–VII study under the prescribed test. The announcement says residence certificates cannot replace study certificates for applicants who attended a recognised institution through Class VII; the residence alternative is for qualifying non-study situations. It also covers the special local-status certificate for certain Telangana-to-Andhra Pradesh migrants. For BC reservation, the notice specifies a Non-Creamy Layer certificate dated on/after 1 April 2026; for EWS, the digitally issued certificate linked to FY 2025–26 income is required on/after the same date. A reserved-category certificate from another state does not automatically entitle someone to A.P. reserved vacancies.

💳 Official application fees — ₹250 processing vs ₹120 examination

FeeAmountApplied how
Processing fee₹250Payable even if the separate examination fee is exempt
Examination fee₹120Charged unless an expressly notified exemption applies
Standard combined payment₹370₹250 + ₹120
With valid exam-fee exemption₹250Processing fee still payable
Permitted form correction₹100 eachPost-close correction window, only fields allowed by APPSC

The stated exemption applies to the ₹120 examination fee only, for the listed eligible SC/ST/BC applicants, ex-servicemen, certain Andhra Pradesh White-Card households and eligible unemployed youth under the precise official conditions. The ₹250 processing fee remains payable. Out-of-state applicants should follow the explicit non-exemption rules printed for them; do not infer an A.P.-specific concession from their home state's certificate. Paid fees are non-refundable. The Commission accepts payment using its online banking/card interface, not postal order or demand draft.

🔗 Online application — finish the final payment step

  1. Register or sign in with the Commission's One Time Profile Registration (OTPR) ID at the official APPSC portal. OTPR registration by itself is not an application for 36/2026.
  2. Choose Notification 36/2026, review personal data, the applicable degree/diploma route, driving-licence category and dated driving experience, zone/local status and reservation claims. Correct OTPR details before final notification-specific submission.
  3. Complete the post-specific application and select Save & Submit. The ordinary Save option stores a draft but does not submit the application.
  4. Pay the correct combined online fee, confirm the success reference, and download/save the completed application PDF. A failed payment needs another valid payment attempt.
  5. Use the post-closing edit facility only within the prescribed seven-day window after 26 November, paying ₹100 per permitted correction. The notice expressly disallows editing name, fee and age-relaxation-affecting fields through this facility; check those carefully before filing.

Scan and upload the actual candidate's recent photo and signature in the specified JPG format. Keep the same original qualification, licence/experience, local-status and community documents ready for verification. For a claimed equivalent qualification, the additional Government Order submission deadline under Para 3 matters independently of routine post-closing form correction.

🧠 Written test — Paper-II has double-weight questions

I — General Studies & Mental AbilityDegree150150 min1501
II — Automobile EngineeringDiploma150150 min3002
Written merit total300300 min450

📊 Official marks of the two merit papers

PaperMarks
General Studies & Mental Ability150
Automobile Engineering300

Paper-I is a degree-standard GS/Mental Ability test; Paper-II is diploma-standard Automobile Engineering. With the notice's penalty of one-third of the marks allotted to each question, a wrong Paper-I response costs 1/3 mark and a wrong Paper-II response costs 2/3 mark. Paper-I is set in English with Telugu translation; Paper-II is English medium only. The English Paper-I version controls valuation in the event of discrepancy. All papers are compulsory; the official notice has not supplied the calendar date yet.

The selection thresholds for aggregate written marks are OC/ex-servicemen/EWS 40%, BC 35%, and SC/ST 30%, subject to the notice's special SC/ST selection provision. On a maximum of 450, those percentage benchmarks correspond to 180, 157.5 and 135 marks respectively; these are qualifying minima, not actual final selection cut-offs. APPSC's medical fitness and qualifying CPT must still be cleared.

🖥️ The separate 100-mark CPT

Shortlisted candidates must pass a 60-minute, 100-mark practical Office Automation test after written selection. Its official components are 20 marks of fundamental computer knowledge, 25 of typing speed, 15 of organising/inserting document objects, 20 of spreadsheet work, and 20 of presentation preparation. These marks are qualifying, not 100 additional marks in the merit score. The official CPT syllabus includes MS Office or listed equivalent open-source programs. The detailed Paper-I, Paper-II and CPT syllabus is provided in the separate examination pages under this recruitment.

🏛️ Application to appointment: the real stages

The Commission may hold CBRT at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati or Anantapuramu, asking candidates for three centre preferences and reserving final allotment. It will notify hall-ticket release, written examination date and CPT schedule separately. After the written test, APPSC publishes an initial Answer Key; the objection window lasts three days from its release and costs ₹100 per objection, refundable if the objection is upheld. The Commission can normalize multi-session written scores; the official Annexure-V governs normalisation and ranking.

Following written merit, qualifying CPT, document scrutiny and mandatory medical fitness, final allocation follows eligible zone/community rules. Where written marks tie, the notice sets an age-first tie rule (older candidate), then the earlier qualifying degree date in applicable cases. No waiting list is provided for this recruitment.

Current status on 6 November 2026: detailed notification and application window are active; no specific AMVI 36/2026 hall-ticket, examination date, CPT date, answer key, result or final selection list has been published by this notice. Older results under AMVI 21/2025 or 12/2022 are not lifecycle updates for this recruitment.

Post description

Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector — A.P. Transport Service (50 posts)

The 50 AMVI positions constitute one regular transport-service job allocated to six distinct zones. The job is linked to technical vehicle inspection, transport compliance and safe vehicle operation, but the notification is primarily a recruitment rulebook: no numerical daily duties, performance quotas, posting-station names or training-bond terms are announced. Candidates must assess eligibility as one combined test rather than treating education, licence and physical fitness as separate optional filters.

Admission route A — engineering degree

A recognised Mechanical Engineering or Automobile Engineering degree (or accepted equivalent), held by 6 November 2026, meets the education route. The notification does not call for B.Sc. in a general science subject, and it does not set a minimum graduation percentage.

Admission route B — Automobile Engineering diploma

An Automobile Engineering diploma awarded by one of the notified technical diploma boards or a valid equivalent also qualifies academically. The ordinary diploma route does not list a stand-alone Mechanical Engineering diploma. Any equivalence claim must be backed by the Government Order supplied within the ten-day period after the online closing date under the published Para 3.

Compulsory on-road eligibility — note the two narrowly written provisos

Driving licence, three years of motor-vehicle driving experience and HTV endorsement form the standard rule. If candidates with the prescribed three-year experience are unavailable, the competent authority may consider a two-year experience appointment under the availability proviso; this is not an unconditional rewriting of the entrance requirement. A woman holding only an LMV driving licence can acquire HTV endorsement within two years of joining under the specific proviso, failing which the service may be terminated. All other applicable conditions, including approved education and driving experience, remain relevant.

Height, chest and unaided vision — real pass/fail suitability conditions

Applicant groupMinimum heightChest on full inspirationMinimum expansion
Men — general standard165 cm86.3 cm5 cm
Men — SC/ST/Aboriginal Tribes160 cm83.8 cm5 cm
Women — general standard157.5 cm82.3 cm5 cm
Women — SC/ST/Aboriginal Tribes152.5 cm79.8 cm5 cm

The notice requires unaided 6/6 distant vision in both eyes, 0.5 near vision on the stated Snellen scale for both, full visual fields and no notified disqualifying colour-vision or squint condition. A Medical Board's evaluation, under the accompanying medical guidance, determines fitness. Applicants should not assume a different APPSC post's vision concession applies to AMVI.

The post has 19 OC, 8 SC (I/II/III), 4 ST, 16 BC (A/B/D/E) and 3 EWS positions. The eight women horizontal places overlap these vertical seats. Paper-I has 150 one-mark questions and Paper-II 150 two-mark questions, producing 450 written-merit marks with 1/3 of each question's marks deducted for a wrong answer. Provisionally shortlisted candidates must pass the 100-mark, 60-minute CPT and subsequent document/medical procedures.

Candidate's practical verification checklist

  • Compare your engineering degree/diploma exact discipline and awarding authority to the two expressly permitted routes.
  • Check actual date of original motor-driving licence, driving history, heavy-transport endorsement and any strictly applicable female-candidate concession.
  • Verify height/chest and the unusually demanding without-glasses 6/6 criteria before making non-refundable payment.
  • Confirm local-zone certificates, caste/NCL/EWS document dates and correct zone preference before Save & Submit.
  • Keep actual certificates—e.g., driving licence/endorsement, academic original or accepted equivalent Government Order—for APPSC verification.

These are regular pay-scale posts, advertised at ₹48,440–₹1,37,220. Actual placement, allowances, medical clearance and service conditions follow the competent authority; the advertisement does not promise a fixed net monthly salary or any particular city of posting.

Post-specific instructions
  • Do not mistake Mechanical Engineering diploma for the specifically stated Automobile Engineering diploma route; Mechanical Engineering is named in the Degree route.
  • Check Motor Driving Licence, normally three years of motor-driving experience and heavy transport endorsement; carefully read the two specific provisos rather than assuming a blanket waiver.
  • Read the exact sex/community-specific height and chest standards, and the strict 6/6 distance vision in each eye without glasses.
  • Bring valid Class VII local-status study certificates if applicable; residence alternative only when the notified non-study circumstances apply.
  • Caste/NCL/EWS claimants should verify issuance dates and Andhra Pradesh locality conditions before Save & Submit.
  • Both 450-mark written papers are compulsory; shortlisted applicants must separately qualify the 100-mark CPT.
  • OTPR alone is not the application. Submit Notification 36/2026 and pay online by 26 November 2026 at 11:59 PM.
