APPSC Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector 2026 — Full Official Computer Proficiency Test Syllabus

Notification 36/2026, Annexure-II pages 17–19 · 100 marks · 60 minutes · Qualifying practical test, date to be notified.

The Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) is not an extra 100 marks added to the 450-mark written-merit score. Para 9.5 and 14.2 require candidates provisionally shortlisted after CBRT to qualify a practical test in office automation using computers and associated software, before they can be finally considered. Its date and hall-ticket details are still subject to future APPSC notices.

The notice says Part-A may be designed as MCQs; it does not guarantee a definite MCQ count. The remaining practical tasks test creation and formatting in an office suite. The notification's 25% typing component has the caveat that it may be made mandatory for qualification as per prevailing norms; it gives no specific WPM speed. Therefore no invented mandatory 30/35/40 WPM speed should be stated.

Minimum passing marks for the 100-mark CPT

Official CPT category headingMinimum qualifying marks
SC/ST/PBD (as written in the generic CPT table)30
Backward Classes35
Open Competition40

The CPT scheme mentions PBD in its general qualifying table; this does not override Para 4.4, which explicitly says there is no PwBD vacancy reservation for AMVI. The scheme provides no distinct EWS-labelled CPT threshold: do not invent one as a category-specific notification rule.

Part-A — computer fundamentals, operating systems, Internet and email

  1. Computer hardware and organisation: components, peripherals, keyboards, mouse, scanner, touchscreens, joystick, microphone, digital camera, barcode and biometric devices; monitors, speakers, printers, plotters, external media, storage and RAM/ROM; control, memory and arithmetic-logic units.
  2. Types of software: purpose and characteristics of system, application, embedded, proprietary and open-source software.
  3. Operating-system concepts: what an operating system does and the difference between single-user and multi-user systems.
  4. Windows GUI and operations: GUI versus character interface; folders/files; managing applications, printer, webcam and scanner setup.
  5. Linux/Mac basics: platform features, elementary file/directory commands, permissions and user management, introductory Mac OS commands. This is labelled basic concepts, not a prescribed professional system-administrator certification.
  6. Internet usage: how a device connects, protocols, browsers, IP addresses, uploading/downloading and minimum connectivity requirements.
  7. Email: sending and receiving, mailing lists, addressing and related elementary functions.
  8. World Wide Web: website navigation, searching and benefits of WWW.

Part-B — office-software practical skills

Office environment: The scheme recognises MS Office or equivalent open-source office suites (LibreOffice/OpenOffice/NeoOffice); official test arrangements still decide which tools are actually available in the room.

Word processing: create/open/save/print documents; choose layouts, page breaks, styles and themes; fonts, paragraphs, borders, columns, tables and sorting; use headers, footers, page numbers, images, diagrams, WordArt, references, bookmarks, hyperlinks, footnotes, mail merge, templates, and keyboard/editing tools. The assessment explicitly checks typing speed and document organisation, not only terminology.

Spreadsheet work: enter, edit and format cells; use formulas, references and functions; copy/fill, calculate, sort, merge/split and conditionally format; prepare charts, graphs, subtotals and printable workbooks. The published syllabus also includes CSV/database-style worksheets and macro/workspace features. A usable, correctly calculated spreadsheet is more valuable than memorised toolbar locations.

Presentation work: start and format slides, layouts, themes and master slides; insert images, tables, drawings and graphical objects; create consistent transitions/animations; select slide-show settings and finalise the file. This is the 20-mark presentation component, not a separate interview.

Practice strategy distinct from the official syllabus

An appropriate self-check is to create one page of well-formatted text with a table and picture, enter data with a formula and chart in a spreadsheet, then prepare a short slide deck. That is study advice, not a declaration that APPSC has released exact mock-test tasks. Do not treat a proprietary software brand, fixed typing speed or published exam date as compulsory unless APPSC issues specific test-centre instructions.
