About this Recruitment

Recruitment-specific overview from the published record.

13 trade codes, 28 places: understand the vacancy pool before choosing a code

CSIR–Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru has advertised 28 regular Technician (1) posts under Advertisement Rec.02/2026, posted by the institute on 17 October 2026. These are not a single interchangeable technician pool: candidates apply for an individual trade code TE01–TE13. A Fitter qualification cannot automatically be used for an Electronics Mechanic or COPA code. Each code also has its own reservation distribution, so the all-trade UR or OBC total is not a candidate’s post-specific seat count.

The 28 vertical vacancies reconcile to 9 UR, 5 EWS, 4 SC, 1 ST and 9 OBC-NCL. Two of the 28 positions are horizontally reserved for Ex-Servicemen, and two for persons with benchmark disabilities; adding those four to 28 would double-count. The two ESM allocations are one in TE01 and one in TE02. The two PwBD allocations are category c in TE02 and category b in TE05. These specific disability category codes are not interchangeable with any general certificate: refer to the trade-specific functional suitability matrix on pages 5–6 of the PDF.

TE01 — Fitter: 6 seats. UR 2, EWS 1, SC 1, OBC-NCL 2. Additional horizontal reservation: 1 ESM seat, horizontally reserved. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Fitter; no swapping of post code after application.

TE02 — Electronics Mechanic: 7 seats. UR 4, EWS 1, SC 1, OBC-NCL 1. Additional horizontal reservation: 1 ESM and 1 PwBD category c seat, horizontally reserved. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Electronics Mechanic; no swapping of post code after application.

TE03 — Instrument Mechanic: 1 seat. OBC-NCL 1. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Instrument Mechanic; no swapping of post code after application.

TE04 — Laboratory Assistant (Chemical Plant): 2 seats. UR 1, SC 1. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Laboratory Assistant (Chemical Plant); no swapping of post code after application.

TE05 — Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA): 2 seats. UR 1, OBC-NCL 1. Additional horizontal reservation: 1 PwBD category b seat, horizontally reserved. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA); no swapping of post code after application.

TE06 — Information & Communication Technology System Maintenance: 1 seat. OBC-NCL 1. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Information & Communication Technology System Maintenance; no swapping of post code after application.

TE07 — Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technician: 2 seats. SC 1, OBC-NCL 1. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technician; no swapping of post code after application.

TE08 — Electrician: 2 seats. EWS 1, ST 1. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Electrician; no swapping of post code after application.

TE09 — Carpenter: 1 seat. UR 1. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Carpenter; no swapping of post code after application.

TE10 — Plumber: 1 seat. EWS 1. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Plumber; no swapping of post code after application.

TE11 — Sheet Metal Worker: 1 seat. OBC-NCL 1. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Sheet Metal Worker; no swapping of post code after application.

TE12 — Turner: 1 seat. EWS 1. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Turner; no swapping of post code after application.

TE13 — Welder: 1 seat. OBC-NCL 1. The qualification and trade test must correspond to Welder; no swapping of post code after application.

The actual minimum qualification is Class 10 Science with 55%—plus ONE trade route

Every TE code uses the same three-path qualification framework with a trade-specific specialization. First, the applicant must have passed SSC/Matriculation/Class 10 or equivalent with Science subjects and at least 55% marks. In addition, ONE of the following alternatives is required for that same advertised trade, rather than all three:

  • An ITI certificate or National/State Trade Certificate in the named trade; OR

  • Two years of full-time apprenticeship trainee experience in that trade from a recognized institution; OR

  • Three years of work experience in that trade with a Government of India / State / UT ministry, department, organization, PSU or autonomous body as described in the advertisement.

The OR structure is crucial: an applicant without ITI may have a permitted apprenticeship or government-organization work-experience route, but cannot replace the Class 10 Science / 55% foundation with generic graduation. General private-sector work experience is not expressly the substitute described for the third route. Equivalence claims need documentary acceptance; the certificate name and trade should match the code selected. Skills descriptions below are preparation context, not a claim that a named skill appears as an itemized official exam syllabus.

Two dates and a third deadline: application, printing and hard-copy receipt

Online registration and fee payment begin on 19 October 2026 at 10:00 a.m. and end on 18 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. The institute posted the vacancy on 17 October, so at publication on that date the application window had not yet opened. The online registration form, payment receipt, and printable completed application must all be generated and downloaded by 18 November. The signed hard copy with required self-attested documents must reach the Recruitment Section by 26 November 2026. Merely submitting online without the required physical packet leads to rejection.

Send the completed printout by Speed Post or Registered Post only to Recruitment Section (E-I Section), CSIR–CFTRI, Cheluvamba Mansion (opposite the Rail Museum), Mysuru, Karnataka 570020. The envelope should identify the Technician (1) post, exact TE code and Rec.02/2026. Candidates who apply for different trade codes must make separate complete applications, fee payments where applicable and postal packets. Do not assume courier or ordinary post is an accepted substitute. Do not plan to print the form after the online portal closes.

Application fees and the e-receipt trap

The notified fee is ₹500 per post code, non-refundable, paid via SBI Collect under the regular-appointment category. SC, ST, PwBD, women and Ex-Servicemen candidates are fee-exempt on the required supporting proof. The usual fee applies to UR, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates who do not independently qualify for an exemption. For a fee-paying applicant, payment alone is insufficient: the SBI Collect e-receipt/transaction information must be uploaded into the CFTRI application before submission closes and the receipt must accompany the hard-copy packet. More than one TE code normally incurs a separate application and fee.

Three written papers, but only 300 of 400 marks decide the ranking

The recruitment lifecycle is application/document screening → relevant trade test (qualifying) → competitive written examination for trade-test qualifiers. The written examination has three papers and 150 multiple-choice questions over a total of 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes), delivered by OMR or computer-based mode as officially determined:

  • Paper I – Mental Ability: 50 questions, 100 marks, 60 minutes, 2 marks per correct answer, no negative marking. Topics: general intelligence, quantitative aptitude, reasoning, problem solving and situational judgment. This is a qualifying gateway; the minimum Paper-I threshold will be decided and notified by CFTRI.

  • Paper II – General Awareness and English: 50 questions overall (25 + 25), 150 marks, 30 minutes. Each correct answer earns 3; each wrong answer loses 1 mark. The notice does not split the 30 minutes into fixed 15-minute section timers.

  • Paper III – Concerned Trade: 50 questions, 150 marks, 60 minutes, +3 for correct and -1 for incorrect. The tested subject is the exact TE trade at SSC+ITI/XII standard. The notification does not provide a chapter-by-chapter trade-wise syllabus.

Adding 100 + 150 + 150 yields 400 marks across all papers, but final selection merit uses Paper II + Paper III only = 300 marks. The trade test and Paper I are both qualifiers, not percentage contributors to ranked merit. CFTRI will announce actual minimum trade-test and Paper-I qualifying thresholds later. No numerical cutoffs may be invented at this stage. Wrong-answer penalties differ sharply: none in Paper I, minus one in Paper II and III. Candidates should not apply the minus 0.25 marking from NIT Raipur or another institute to this recruitment.

Medium of questions is English and Hindi, except that English-language questions are in English. The 150-minute composite test is distinct from the qualifying trade test whose duration and practical task specifications will be communicated later. The original notification does not establish an exam date, hall-ticket publication date, result date, exam city list or final qualifying score; later authority-specific notices must supply those.

Tie-breaking and what is actually knowable before the examination

After the Paper-II/III marks ranking, ties first favor higher concerned-subject/trade marks, then fewer negative marks in concerned-subject paper(s), then fewer negative marks in all papers included in merit, then older date of birth, earlier attainment of essential degree, then alphabetical order of first names. This announced multi-stage tie rule matters particularly for the one-seat TE categories. It would be inaccurate to promise an interview, a combined 400-mark merit, or automatic selection after the trade test: the PDF specifies the trade test, qualifying Paper I and Paper-II/III merit procedure.

Age, horizontal reservation and document rejection risks

The ordinary age window is 18 to 28 years on 18 November 2026: applicants must already have attained 18, and the normal upper limit is 28. The notice specifies SC/ST +5 years and OBC-NCL +3 years when a post is reserved for the relevant category; PwBD relaxation is normally +10 years, extending to +15 SC/ST or +13 OBC-NCL as applicable. ESM and departmental/government employee relaxations are governed by additional conditions and certificates; never add different concessions mechanically without the applicable rules. SC/ST candidates seeking UR seats do not obtain reservation-based upper-age relaxation merely from their caste certificate, though applicable SC/ST fee exemption remains.

For OBC-NCL, a State-only caste entry does not replace Government of India Central List eligibility; the certificate must establish non-creamy-layer status in the prescribed form. For EWS, the advertisement specifies an income-and-asset certificate valid for FY 2026–27 based on FY 2025–26 family income, not an outdated certificate. Applicants working in Government/CSIR/autonomous bodies must upload the required employer NOC. Name and date-of-birth details must agree with the prescribed school certificate. The application is provisional until genuine originals and category/experience documentation are checked.

A second photo, locked applicant details and trade-wise registration

The online form requires a separate live photograph capture, in addition to the uploaded passport-size colour photo. According to the advertisement, live capture can use a webcam or the temporary mobile QR route; its mobile link expires after about five minutes. The photograph and signature files are JPGs below 50 KB, while supporting certificate documents must be uploaded as PDFs below 1 MB each. The registration profile becomes locked after verification, and the final submitted application cannot subsequently be edited. A candidate applying to two different TE codes must submit separate trade-code applications, fee and supporting documentation where applicable. The printed application must be signed, accompanied by the same photograph and relevant self-attested documents, and delivered by Speed Post/Registered Post within the published receipt deadline. These are practical rejection points, not additional academic criteria.

Where can a selected Technician be posted?

Recruitment is being conducted by CSIR-CFTRI at Mysuru, but the notification says appointed employees must be ready to serve at CFTRI headquarters, its resource centres in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Lucknow, and may be transferred to other CSIR labs/institutes in India. This is an official future deployment/transfer condition rather than a published trade-wise first-posting allocation for each of the 28 posts. Applicants should account for this before applying, rather than assuming a permanent Mysuru-only appointment.

Salary: 7th CPC scale, not ₹37,260 basic pay

The post carries 7th CPC Level 2 basic pay ₹19,900–₹63,200. The authority separately illustrates approximately ₹37,260 total monthly emoluments at the minimum scale in Mysuru, including admissible HRA. That ₹37,260 is not the entry basic pay and is not guaranteed as a take-home salary for everyone. DA, HRA, transport allowance and deductions depend on actual rules, posting and accommodation. The institute describes applicable CSIR medical, LTC and other benefits, subject to current rules and eligibility.

Lifecycle status: what will be linked to this recruitment later

As of the official 17 October posting, the source advertises the screening, qualifying trade test and three-paper competitive examination but publishes no calendar for the trade test, hall ticket, exam, answer key, result, cutoff or joining. No separate record should claim a released admit card or published answer key. Later published admit cards, shortlist notices, Paper-I qualifying thresholds, written merit and joining instructions should all update this SAME recruitment source key and link back to the official CSIR-CFTRI recruitment page. Do not duplicate Rec.02/2026 merely because a trade-code-specific test notification arrives.

Official sources: the 42-page Technician Rec.02/2026 official detailed recruitment notice, the regular-recruitment listing and the online registration portal. Candidates should monitor the institute website for changes, corrigenda and selection notices.
