ITBPF is recruiting 21 male Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) posts from 28 September to 27 October 2026. The qualification has two different routes after 10+2: Motor Mechanic certificate/ITI plus three years' practical workshop experience, or a three-year Diploma in Automobile Engineering. The written test creates final merit; the 50-mark practical skill test is qualifying only.

ITBP HC MOTOR MECHANIC 2026 — THE MAIN ELIGIBILITY TRAP IS THE CONDITIONAL 3-YEAR EXPERIENCE RULE
ITBPF Advertisement CBC 19143/11/0013/2627 recruits 21 male Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) posts in General Central Service, Group C, Non-Gazetted and Non-Ministerial. Applications opened on 28 September 2026 at 00:01 and close on 27 October 2026 at 23:59. Pay is Level 4, Rs.25,500-81,100, with all-India/abroad service liability.
1) VACANCY ARITHMETIC — UR AND OBC EACH HOLD ONE-THIRD OF THE RECRUITMENT UR 7 + SC 4 + ST 0 + OBC 7 + EWS 3 = 21. UR and OBC each account for 33.33% of all seats, SC 19.05% and EWS 14.29%; there is no ST vacancy in the published roster. Ten per cent Ex-Servicemen reservation is horizontal in the respective category, but the advertisement does not justify inventing an exact fractional ESM seat count.
2) 10+2 IS COMMON TO BOTH ROUTES; THE TRADE CONDITION THEN SPLITS Every applicant needs 10+2 from a recognised Board/Institution. After that, Route A is a Motor Mechanic certificate from a recognised institution/ITI PLUS three years of practical Motor Mechanic experience in a reputed workshop. Route B is a three-year Diploma in Automobile Engineering. The three-year workshop-experience condition belongs to the certificate/ITI route; it is not an extra condition silently added to the diploma route. This is why the structured experience object below is explicitly conditional instead of a plain string or a universal '3 years required' statement.
3) PET AND PST HAPPEN BEFORE THE WRITTEN EXAM Male PET is 1.6 km in 7 minutes 30 seconds, 11-foot long jump and 3.5-foot high jump. PET is qualifying; Ex-Servicemen are exempt from PET but must qualify the other applicable stages. For the normal PST group, height is 170 cm and chest 80-85 cm; notified relaxed standards apply to specified regions/categories. Candidates then face original-document verification before the written paper.
4) THE 100-MARK WRITTEN PAPER IS 60% TRADE THEORY The written exam has 100 objective questions for 100 marks in two hours: General Knowledge 10, Mathematics 10, Hindi or English 20, and Motor Mechanic trade-related theory 60. Questions are at 12th-standard level. The language component gives the candidate the notified Hindi/English choice. Minimum written qualifying marks are 35% for UR/EWS/Ex-Servicemen and 33% for SC/OBC-NCL.
5) THE 50-MARK PRACTICAL TEST DOES NOT ADD TO FINAL MERIT Candidates up to ten times the category-wise vacancies may be called for the practical test on written-exam performance. The practical carries 50 marks: vehicle inspection 10, identification of faults 10, rectification of defects 25 and handling of workshop tools 5. A candidate needs 50% to qualify, but the skill-test score is not added to final merit. The final category-wise merit list is based on written-examination marks among candidates who clear the practical and other qualifying stages.
6) TIE-BREAK AND MEDICAL RULES If written-merit marks tie, the older candidate ranks higher; if still tied, English alphabetical order applies. DME then applies the CAPF/ITBPF medical standards, including the notified unaided vision and colour-vision rules.
7) AGE, FEE AND SERVICE COMMITMENT Base age is 18-25 years as on 27 October 2026. The notice gives SC +5 years, OBC-NCL +3 years and the stated Ex-Servicemen/Government-servant provisions. UR/OBC/EWS candidates pay Rs.100; SC/ST and eligible Ex-Servicemen are exempt. Selected candidates are subject to ITBPF's minimum ten-year service condition and the early-resignation repayment clause.
APPLICANT DECISION CHECKLIST - Do not apply on the assumption that ITI alone replaces the 10+2 requirement; the notice lists 10+2 separately. - If using the certificate/ITI route, confirm you can document all three years of practical workshop experience. - If using the Automobile Engineering diploma route, do not incorrectly add the ITI-route experience condition to yourself. - Prioritise trade theory: it is 60% of the written paper and final merit comes from written marks. - Treat the 50-mark practical as a qualification gate, not as an opportunity to boost final merit.
