BEL Probationary Engineer E-II CBT 2026 — 125Q Electronics/Mechanical | Advt 17556/HR/All-India/2026
BEL E-II Probationary Engineer CBT 2026: 125-question paper, discipline-wise syllabus scope and 85:15 selection
The Bharat Electronics Limited Probationary Engineer (Electronics/Mechanical) E-II Computer-Based Test is the common selection stage for 350 notified vacancies under Advertisement 17556/HR/All-India/2026 (28 October 2026). Candidates should distinguish the raw CBT paper of 125 marks from its contribution of 85 marks to the eventual 100-point merit calculation. An interview worth the remaining 15 marks follows 1:5 discipline-wise and category-wise CBT shortlisting. The CBT is tentatively planned for 22 December 2026, not officially fixed without possibility of revision.

Why 125 raw marks and 85 final-merit marks cannot be confused
A candidate sits a 125-mark raw test, but BEL will later use an 85-mark CBT weight in the composite selection. The PDF provides the relative weightage, not a complete rounding or normalisation method. A website claiming that every raw score can simply be multiplied by an undocumented fixed formula is offering an assumption, not a published BEL rule.
Example of raw marking, for illustration only: 80 correct, 20 wrong and 25 not attempted yields 80 − 5 = 75/125. This example is not the cut-off, not a recommended number of attempts and not a prediction of who reaches the interview.
🎯 Qualifying percentages and competitive shortlisting are two different gates
📊 Compare BEL's separately applicable CBT qualifying percentages
| Applicant category | Minimum CBT marks (%) |
|---|---|
| GEN / OBC-NCL / EWS | 35 |
| SC / ST / PwBD | 30 |
BEL requires those same minimum percentages separately in the interview. The test minimum alone does not trigger an interview invitation. Candidates who pass the relevant threshold are then subject to 1:5 provisional shortlisting by discipline and category, based on CBT performance. Therefore competition for the 200 Electronics slots and 150 Mechanical slots is separate; no overall “350-seat cut-off” is provided.
The published percentages would correspond mathematically to 43.75 raw points at 35% or 37.5 at 30% of a 125-point paper, but the advertisement specifies no official rounding rule. Neither number is an announced selected-candidate cut-off. Candidates should use the original percentage rule, not an invented integer pass score or estimated safe score.
⚖️ Final merit weighting after the interview
📊 Understand the two non-overlapping selection weights
| Final selection assessment | Weightage (out of 100) |
|---|---|
| CBT | 85 |
| Interview | 15 |
Interview shortlisting follows the CBT, and final success depends on the weighted combined performance alongside document eligibility and medical fitness. A 15-mark interview does not override the separate minimum interview qualifying percentage. BEL has not provided interview dates, panel composition, individual question areas, a detailed conversion algorithm or tie-breaking rules in the uploaded notice.
📚 What BEL actually calls its syllabus
The official syllabus statement is broad but specific in scope: questions primarily arise from the core engineering subjects studied during the candidate's relevant undergraduate engineering degree/specialisation and an additional General Aptitude section testing analytical/reasoning abilities. No separate official table assigns marks to network theory, thermodynamics, aptitude subtopics or any other named chapters. The following tables are proposed preparation checklists, not an official BEL syllabus, question distribution or expected paper.
⚡ Electronics and allied communication branches — suggested undergraduate revision matrix
| Suggested revision area | Preparation purpose, not a BEL-guaranteed chapter |
|---|---|
| Electronic devices and semiconductors | Reasoning about device behaviour and common applications |
| Analog electronics | Amplifier operation, signal conditioning, design basics |
| Digital electronics / logic | Boolean logic, sequential circuits and design analysis |
| Circuit/network theory | Network laws, frequency response and transient reasoning |
| Signals & systems | Time/frequency-domain concepts, transformations |
| Communication theory | Modulation, transmission, noise and digital link fundamentals |
| Control/measurement | Feedback, stability concepts, sensors where in degree curriculum |
| Digital systems and processors | Microprocessors or embedded-system concepts where studied |
| Supporting engineering mathematics | Branch-appropriate mathematical methods |
BEL's approved Electronics labels are Electronics; Electronics and Communication; Electronics & Telecommunication; Communication; and Telecommunication. A candidate should use the subjects actually present in the authorised programme, not assume all five degree names have identical modules. Topics outside the BEL notice remain preparation suggestions only.
🔧 Mechanical Engineering — suggested undergraduate revision matrix
| Suggested revision area | Preparation purpose, not a BEL-guaranteed chapter |
|---|---|
| Mechanics, dynamics and strength of materials | Load, stress/strain, motion and structural analysis |
| Thermodynamics and energy systems | Heat engines, cycles and energy balances |
| Fluid mechanics | Continuity, energy flow and fundamental applications |
| Heat transfer | Conduction, convection and thermal-system analysis |
| Manufacturing processes | Machining, casting, forming and production fundamentals |
| Machine design and elements | Design principles, components, fatigue and material selection |
| Theory of machines / vibrations | Mechanisms, kinematics, dynamic behaviour |
| Materials / quality / industrial engineering | Metallurgy and process/quality tools where in degree curriculum |
The PDF does not release official numbers of Mechanical questions per chapter. Revise your recognised Mechanical undergraduate curriculum using concept checks and timed objective practice; avoid predicting guaranteed subject weights from previous-year memory alone.
🧮 General Aptitude and Reasoning — 25 questions (official)
The only confirmed substructure is that this section contains 25 of the 125 questions and tests general aptitude, analytical and reasoning ability. Suggested practice—not a declared BEL topic list—can include percentages, ratios, proportional reasoning, basic data interpretation, logical arrangements, patterns, sequences and short multi-step arithmetic. There is no official numerical/verbal/reasoning subgroup count to populate an authentic chart.
⏱️ A defensible 120-minute preparation and attempt strategy
The 100:25 engineering/aptitude ratio means the technical component should dominate revision, but it does not imply an official 96-minute/24-minute division or sectional time limits. There is no sectional time rule in the notice. Candidates can practise completing the entire 125-question paper in two hours and use review time to reduce avoidable errors.
| Four-week example plan | Editorial preparation activity |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | Rebuild engineering fundamentals and identify branch-specific weak topics |
| Week 2 | Revise remaining core subjects; practise analytical and quantitative reasoning |
| Week 3 | Take full-length 125-question, 120-minute mocks and audit −0.25 marking losses |
| Week 4 | Consolidate weak areas; verify official exam date and call-letter notices |
This timetable is a study suggestion, not a BEL-issued schedule. A candidate with a different academic background should adjust time based on diagnostic practice rather than follow an arbitrary promise of “guaranteed selection”.
Illustrative accuracy calculations
| Hypothetical raw CBT response set | Raw outcome |
|---|---|
| 90 correct, 15 wrong, 20 unattempted | 90 − (15 × 0.25) = 86.25 |
| 75 correct, 30 wrong, 20 unattempted | 75 − (30 × 0.25) = 67.50 |
| 100 correct, 25 wrong | 100 − (25 × 0.25) = 93.75 |
These are arithmetic illustrations of BEL's published marking rule. They are not official score cut-offs, prescribed attempt counts, or expected performance distributions.
🗺️ Exam centre selection: choose five, but allocation is not guaranteed
BEL requires five preferred CBT centres near the correspondence address. The city list on page 14 / Annexure A is expressly tentative and non-exhaustive; BEL can change a city or centre depending on availability and candidate volume. Candidates cannot demand a later location change after the specified procedure.
Named Jharkhand options on BEL Annexure A
| State | CBT test city / city cluster mentioned |
|---|---|
| Jharkhand | Jamshedpur |
| Jharkhand | Ranchi |
| Jharkhand | Dhanbad |
| Jharkhand | Bokaro Steel City |
Other potential options in the annexure include Patna, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur (Bihar); Kolkata, Durgapur, Siliguri, Burdwan, Kalyani (West Bengal); Bhubaneswar/Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur (Odisha); Delhi/NCR, and many others. A candidate should choose permissible locations on the actual form based on convenience—not interpret this list as an issued admit card or a guaranteed centre.
Travel policy: BEL does not reimburse CBT travel. For eligible outstation interview candidates shortlisted after the CBT, BEL describes reimbursement of AC Chair Car / III-tier AC to-and-fro train fare via the shortest route, subject to the advertisement. The CBT city itself is not a BEL workplace appointment.
🪪 Admit card — what is official and what has not happened yet
The original notice clearly states that candidates whose applications are accepted must log in to the BEL website with their registration credentials and download and print the CBT call letter. BEL will not separately mail it by post or email. The candidate must comply with the instructions on the issued call letter. The release date, reporting time, actual test address, entry rules and direct hall-ticket link are not specified yet; do not invent them or present a previous-year login page as the 2026 download link.
Practical pre-release checklist: retain application number and password; keep a working email/mobile number; ensure the uploaded photograph/signature were accepted; check BEL’s official updates; and after release, verify the exact name, discipline, date, city, venue and instructions on your own admit card. Bring whatever identification or materials the actual released call letter requires—BEL has not enumerated a universal exam-day document list in the PDF.
🧾 CBT result, interview call and final-selection lifecycle
- Application review: BEL screens online applications for prima-facie eligibility; acceptance for the CBT is provisional, not guaranteed appointment.
- CBT: candidates sit the 125-question assessment on the tentative date or a later amended date.
- CBT shortlist: BEL says the candidates provisionally shortlisted for interview will be displayed on its website in query mode. No date or precise score-display URL is given.
- Interview: provisionally shortlisted applicants undergo an interview after original-degree, CGPA conversion, reservation/NOC evidence as applicable. The advertised final-merit weight is 15, and the separate category-specific minimum applies.
- Final result and verification: successful-interview results are to be displayed by BEL; originals and BEL medical fitness remain crucial. Colour blindness is listed as unsuitable for both engineering posts.
- Joining terms: six months’ orientation/on-the-job training, two-year service agreement, ₹2 lakh breach amount under contractual terms, and posting at any eligible BEL location in India.
Why no answer-key/objection date is shown: the source provides no specific answer-key release, objection procedure or deadline. Those details should only be added to the live answer-key module after a new official BEL notification is published.
❓ In-depth CBT questions applicants actually ask
Does BEL require GATE 2026? The notified selection method is BEL’s own CBT and subsequent interview; no GATE-score shortlisting requirement is specified in this advertisement.
Is the exam 100 or 125 questions? 125 total: 100 technical and 25 general aptitude/reasoning.
Are there separate qualifying marks for engineering and aptitude? The notice publishes category-wise CBT/Interview minimum qualifying percentages; it does not set a separate sectional pass mark for either CBT subsection.
Can I choose Hindi for the CBT? Yes, the advertised test is Hindi/English bilingual. If Hindi and English questions conflict, English prevails.
Will I receive the CBT call letter by email or post? No separate call letter is sent that way; BEL requires portal login and download/printing.
Can the exam shift or city change? Yes. The 22 December CBT date is tentative, city allocation depends on capacity and the employer reserves change powers. Choose five preferred cities but treat your issued hall ticket as authoritative.
Does a 35% raw score guarantee interview? No. The qualifying minimum applies, but interview shortlisting is 1:5 discipline-wise and category-wise, and the exact published cut-off is not available.
What is the official chapter-wise Electronics syllabus? BEL states the relevant engineering-degree core syllabus; it does not publish a separate topic-by-topic table. Any named revision cluster in this guide is editorial preparation support.
What about Mechanical applicants? Their core 100 questions are based on their eligible Mechanical engineering curriculum; they do not sit the Electronics technical paper under the advertised discipline-specific selection process.
When is the interview, admit card, answer key and final result? Not announced in the 16-page official notice; consult BEL Careers as those notices appear.
Is the interview weight the same as interview qualification? No. The interview contributes 15 marks to combined merit while a separate 35%/30% minimum qualifying condition applies to the interview itself.
