DSSSB JE Electrical 2026 Tier-I CBT — Post Code 809/26
DSSSB Junior Engineer (Electrical) — Tier-I Technical Screening 2026
Advertisement 06/2026 · Post Code 809/26 · Exam Code II-T-T-1 · 200 questions · 200 marks · 120 minutes.
The function of Tier-I
This test is a qualifying and shortlisting stage for Tier-II, not the source of final JE merit. The Board takes the combined Tier-I score to shortlist candidates for the technical second stage, while applying mandatory minimum marks in the Electrical-specific Section B and in the combined Tier-I score. There is no separate minimum qualifying condition in the general Section A. Candidates should therefore prepare their language and reasoning sections efficiently without neglecting the technical half of the paper.
📊 JE Tier-I: five general tests and one technical block
| Official section | Marks |
|---|---|
| General Awareness | 20 |
| Reasoning | 20 |
| Arithmetic / Numerical | 20 |
| Hindi | 20 |
| English | 20 |
| Electrical subject | 100 |
Section A — five areas, 20 questions/20 marks each
General Awareness (20): The heading prescribed by DSSSB is General Awareness. Sensible revision may cover significant national and Delhi-related public affairs, Indian polity and institutions, social and economic developments, geography, history, environmental issues and general science. The notice does not prescribe a fixed monthly current-affairs window or a closed chapter list; these examples are a preparation roadmap, not an additional officially listed syllabus.
General Intelligence & Reasoning (20): Prioritise reasoning accuracy, relationship and ordering questions, classification, analogy, series, coding/decoding, syllogistic deductions, logical conclusions and visual/sequence problems as standard practice areas. Distinguish a formal deduction from an assumption; control time spent on any multi-step item. DSSSB identifies the broad ability domain but does not give a separate official percentage per reasoning subtype.
Arithmetical & Numerical Ability (20): Build fluency with percentages, ratio/proportion, averages, profit/loss, simple and compound interest, time/work, speed/distance, basic mensuration, number operations and numerical data interpretation as preparation topics. Recheck unit conversion and estimate the expected order of magnitude before choosing an option. The paper pattern fixes the 20 marks; it does not guarantee that any given arithmetic chapter will have a set question count.
Hindi Language & Comprehension (20): Practise sentence meaning, grammar, vocabulary, usage and short comprehension passages; preserve the distinction between the Hindi-specific language questions and the bilingual technical/general paper. English Language & Comprehension (20): Work on reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, error spotting and sentence construction. These are indicative skill areas, not a fabricated list of compulsory subchapters issued in this notice.
Section B — Electrical Engineering: 100 questions/100 marks
DSSSB defines Section B as questions from the subject concerned according to the qualifying educational requirement, here Electrical Engineering. Candidates can organise their preparation around the main degree/diploma subject foundations: circuit laws, network analysis, AC and DC fundamentals, electrical machines and transformers, three-phase systems, electrical measurements and instrumentation, generation/transmission/distribution, switchgear and protection, control and power electronics, electrical materials and safety, energy conversion, and routine engineering calculations. These are editorial study clusters; the advertisement itself says only 'subject concerned' and does not publish an exhaustive Electrical Engineering unit-by-unit specification.
For applicants using the diploma route, theoretical familiarity alone does not cure a missing two-year employment history where the employer requires it. NDMC, MCD and DAMB have different experience wording; understand the qualification first, and use the same Electrical subject foundation to prepare for the common examination.
Marks, eligibility and negative marking
All 200 Tier-I questions carry one mark. A wrong response costs 0.25 mark. The common DSSSB minimums are 40% General/EWS, 35% Delhi OBC and 30% SC/ST/PwBD with the notified ex-servicemen rule. More precisely, the minimum applies separately to Section B and to total Tier-I, not to Section A in isolation. The scores can be normalized if a multiple-shift arrangement makes it necessary; an actual competitive shortlisting cutoff can exceed the general qualifying minimum. A tie in Tier-I is resolved in favour of the higher Section-B technical score, then the older candidate, then alphabetical first name if birth dates are equal.
Exam date and call letter: Not announced for 809/26 in Advertisement 06/2026. Only a genuine subsequent DSSSB notice can establish these dates.
DSSSB JE Electrical 2026 Tier-II CBT — Post Code 809/26
DSSSB Junior Engineer (Electrical) — Tier-II Technical Merit Exam 2026
Advertisement 06/2026 · Post Code 809/26 · 150 objective questions · 200 marks · 150 minutes · final JE merit stage.
What changes from Tier-I?
Tier-II is entirely technical, not a repeat of the 100-mark General Awareness/language section from Tier-I. Its first part checks knowledge across the qualifying Electrical Engineering subject, while the second probes whether candidates can apply concepts, reason through engineering contexts and solve problems. Both parts have separate mandatory minimum qualifying requirements. DSSSB then adds the marks of both parts for the final merit list; the first-tier score qualifies candidates for this stage but is not added to create a 400-mark final result.
📊 JE Tier-II: questions in technical parts
| Tier-II component | Questions |
|---|---|
| Part I: one-mark technical MCQs | 100 |
| Part II: two-mark applied technical MCQs | 50 |
📊 JE Tier-II: marks from each technical part
| Tier-II component | Marks |
|---|---|
| Part I | 100 |
| Part II | 100 |
Part I: technical knowledge, 100 questions/100 marks
The Board states that Part I is an objective paper of one-mark questions covering the entire syllabus of the qualifying subject. For this Electrical Engineering competition, preparation should connect fundamentals to applied engineering: network laws and AC calculations, single/three-phase transformers, rotating machines, electrical drives, switchgear/protection, electrical power networks and distribution, instrumentation and metering, earthing and electrical safety, and core electronics/power electronics. These are practical study categories compiled to support preparation; no exact chapter-wise distribution or separately notified engineering textbook is given on pages 14–15 of Advertisement 06/2026.
A useful technique is to identify whether a question is primarily a circuit-law calculation, a machine characteristic, a protective-device selection, an installation safety judgement or a measurement principle, then select the relevant model rather than memorising a formula detached from its assumptions. The employer-specific degree-versus-diploma rule has no effect on the question count: all applicants to the post code face the same published Tier-II structure.
Part II: application and engineering problem-solving, 50 questions/100 marks
Each Part II item carries two marks, and the advertisement explicitly describes evaluating application of concepts, problem solving, comprehension of context and application of theoretical aspects. Candidates should practise multi-step engineering reasoning: translating conditions into equivalent circuits, checking whether rated equipment and protective arrangements fit the scenario, interpreting test measurements, selecting appropriate operating assumptions and estimating losses, efficiency or electrical quantities. Avoid presuming an announced compulsory practical test or a descriptive written answer: Part II is also MCQ-based.
A mistake on a Part II question costs 0.50 mark, while a wrong Part I question costs 0.25 mark. Those deductions reflect the same quarter-of-mark rule for questions of different values. A blank answer is not an incorrect marked answer. As Part II contributes half the stage's total marks from only one-third of its questions, it deserves deliberate practice without sacrificing the separate Part I qualifying requirement.
Qualification, merit and tie handling
For Tier-II, the applicable minimum is enforced separately in Part I and Part II as well as the combined standing under the rules. The general DSSSB minimum table states 40% General/EWS, 35% Delhi OBC and 30% SC/ST/PwBD (and eligible ex-servicemen concession); final category cutoffs can be higher. Combined Tier-II marks, not Tier-I marks, determine the JE selection merit subject to the reservation roster, document eligibility and department preferences. If candidates tie on Tier-II marks, the older candidate ranks first, and identical birth dates lead to alphabetical first-name ordering in English.
Timing: 2 hours 30 minutes for 150 questions. The notice does not divide Tier-II into separately timed subtests. It does not give an actual 2026/27 examination date, centre, call-letter date, official technical textbook list or result date. Consult a DSSSB examination notice, rather than a speculative calendar, before arranging travel.
