Article

Detailed information, preparation guidance and useful context.

RITES Limited's official advertisement Pers./26-10/Apprentice/2026-27/01, dated 4 November 2026, announces 281 one-year apprenticeship training seats, across Graduate Engineering, Graduate Non-Engineering, Diploma and ITI routes. Applications start 5 November and end 25 November 2026. This is training under the Apprentices Act, not a permanent government post.

This guide is different from a vacancy announcement: it helps an applicant choose the correct qualification route, read an internally inconsistent reservation table without guessing missing seats, apply through both required online systems, and prepare for document scrutiny and discipline-specific workplace learning. RITES has explicitly ruled out a written selection test and interview. The trade-study sections below are practical educational orientation, not an official recruitment-exam syllabus.

✅ The five decisions to make before applying

  1. Qualification route: Engineering Degree / Non-Engineering Degree / three-year Engineering Diploma / recognised full-time ITI, matched to the advertised discipline.
  2. Marks gate: 60% aggregate for General/EWS; 50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD candidates against reserved seats, subject to the specific marks-calculation wording.
  3. Eligibility history: 18 years or more on 5 November 2026; check earlier apprenticeships and post-qualification training/work experience.
  4. Two-stage online submission: Apply to the RITES Limited opportunity on NATS or NAPS, then upload a single consolidated PDF via the RITES Apprentice Form.
  5. Training conditions: One-year contract, nationwide allocation by RITES, stipend rather than regular salary, and no assured subsequent employment.

An exact closing clock time is not stated in the seven-page notice. Do not assume midnight or a fixed office-hour deadline. Once selected, candidates may be contacted by apprenticeship@rites.com, and the shortlist may also appear on the official RITES site. Neither an exam date nor a selection cutoff is published.

🥧 The 281 seats: one total, four genuine routes

🥧 Share of announced training seats

Training route Seats
Graduate Engineering 125
Graduate Non-Engineering 43
Engineering Diploma 62
ITI Trade 51

The two Graduate branches together have 168 seats (59.79%), Engineering Diploma has 62 (22.06%), and ITI has 51 (18.15%). These shares describe advertised seat allocation, not chances of selection. Different courses cannot be treated as interchangeable merely because one has more vacancies.

Do not read ‘ITI Other trades: 3’ as three seats each for Fitter, Welder, Turner, Plumber and Surveyor. The advertisement gives only three combined seats and cites those trades as examples. Likewise, an Architecture degree does not automatically qualify someone for Civil Engineering, and a three-year Diploma cannot be treated as a four-year Engineering Degree.

⚠️ Important primary-source discrepancy: 281 notified seats, 277 in the printed vertical-category columns

Page 2 of the original RITES advertisement contains two distinct facts that do not fully reconcile: the 17 discipline-row Total values sum to 281, but its grand total of SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR vertical columns is 32 + 12 + 68 + 21 + 144 = 277. The gap is four seats. It is concentrated in these printed rows:

Printed discipline row Row total Sum of its displayed SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR figures Difference
Graduate Engineering — Civil 40 39 1
Graduate Engineering — Electrical 26 25 1
Graduate Engineering — Mechanical 36 35 1
Engineering Diploma — Mechanical 26 25 1
All four rows 128 124 4

Do not assign the four unaccounted seats to UR, OBC or any other category without an official RITES corrigendum. Conversely, do not silently reduce the advertised recruitment to 277. The original notice presents 281 advertised training seats. Its PwBD horizontal earmarking totals four (three in Graduate Engineering and one in Diploma), and these are within the notified seats rather than four additional vacancies. PwBD benefit requires at least 40% relevant benchmark disability and fulfillment of the post's physical/functional requirements.

An applicant affected by one of the four inconsistent category rows should check RITES Careers for an official correction before treating that row's category capacity as final.

🎓 Qualification requirements and five-year degree rule

Route Required educational basis Published stipend
Graduate Engineering Full-time four-year B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch, relevant notified discipline; recognised UGC/AICTE qualification as applicable ₹15,650/month
Graduate Non-Engineering Three-year BA/BBA/B.Com/B.Sc/BCA graduation within the relevant advertised opportunity ₹15,650/month
Engineering Diploma Full-time three-year engineering diploma in matching discipline ₹13,450/month
ITI Trade Full-time ITI pass in the matching notified trade; NCVT/SCVT recognition ₹10,560/month

The 7-page notice excludes a Degree or Diploma applicant whose final-semester result date is before 5 November 2021. It explicitly states no year-of-passing restriction for ITI applicants. This date is independent of the normal 5 November 2026 eligibility cutoff. Candidates awaiting their qualifying result on 5 November 2026 are not eligible.

For Government of India reservation benefits, the published minimum is 60% aggregate for General/EWS and 50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD against reserved positions. Where the essential qualification specifies marks in an Honours subject, the relevant Honours marks are used; otherwise, aggregate marks of all subjects are considered. Use institution-supported CGPA-to-percentage conversion when applicable.

🔎 Prior training, job experience and age exclusion

RITES excludes those who have previously undergone or are currently pursuing apprenticeship training under the relevant Act. It also excludes people who have undergone training or job experience totaling one year or more after attaining the essential qualification. This is an exclusion rule, not an extra merit advantage for prior experience. The notified minimum age is 18 years as on 5 November 2026; a maximum age is not stated in the seven-page advertisement, so a guessed 24/25/28-year cap would be misleading.

Apprentice route Monthly total rupees
Graduate Engineering 15650
Graduate Non-Engineering 15650
Engineering Diploma 13450
ITI Trade 10560

The notice says the ₹15,650 graduate total includes ₹6,150 DBT, and the ₹13,450 diploma total includes ₹5,450 DBT. These amounts must not be added again to the published total. The advertisement does not split the ITI stipend into separate DBT components. Training lasts one year and RITES explicitly states that it has no obligation to offer employment during or after training.

🧭 Selection mechanism: no written exam, not a 10th-plus-ITI averaging rule

  1. RITES considers the percentage of marks in the required essential qualification for the relevant opportunity, after documents and eligibility are checked.
  2. If two eligible candidates have equal qualification marks, the older candidate is ranked higher.
  3. Shortlisted candidates are notified by email from apprenticeship@rites.com; the list may be published on the RITES site.
  4. Original documents are checked at joining. RITES may use further eligible candidates from subsequent merit lists if initial vacancies remain.

This is not a recruitment with a 100-question CBT or a 10th+ITI 50:50 merit formula. Those rules belong to other recruitments and must not be transferred to this RITES advertisement. Qualification aggregate eligibility and eventual selected-candidate merit are different concepts; the notice gives no numerical final cutoff.

📝 A complete application requires both portals and the RITES form

Step A — Use the correct apprenticeship portal. Engineering Degree, BA/BBA/B.Com/B.Sc/BCA and Diploma applicants complete a profile in NATS; ITI applicants use NAPS. Log in, find the apprenticeship opportunity under establishment name RITES Limited, check marks, category, education and personal information, and apply.

Step B — Finish the RITES document form. After the NATS/NAPS application, submit a single PDF (maximum 10 MB) containing all required scanned evidence through the official RITES Apprentice Form, by 25 November 2026. The RITES notice requires one consolidated submission; multiple RITES-form submissions are not entertained, and documents supplied only by email or hardcopy do not count.

Check the PDF before upload: all semester/year marksheets, the final passing certificate, institutional CGPA conversion formula if needed, clear date-of-birth proof, identity proof, and applicable SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD proof. For OBC-NCL, the Central-format certificate must be dated on or after 5 November 2025. EWS candidates must provide the current qualifying certificate specified by the notice. Do not add unrelated files that RITES did not ask for.

A candidate can apply for only one post. Multiple apprenticeship portal applications cause only the latest completed valid application to be considered; that does not override the separate single-submission rule for the RITES document form. Location preference may be given in that form, but final nationwide allocation rests with RITES and preference does not guarantee a site.

🧠 Thirty original worked eligibility, merit and document decisions

These are editorial practice cases, not questions from an examination. RITES does not conduct a selection test for this intake.

Case 1: Marks: 420/500 for General/EWS

Worked answer: 420 ÷ 500 × 100 = 84%. This exceeds the stated 60% minimum, assuming the stated aggregate is the relevant qualification and all other gates pass.

Takeaway: 84% is eligibility, not a guaranteed selection cutoff.

Case 2: Marks: 294/500 for General/EWS

Worked answer: 294 ÷ 500 × 100 = 58.8%; below the notified 60% minimum.

Takeaway: An advertised seat does not waive the minimum.

Case 3: Reserved-seat SC candidate: 250/500

Worked answer: 250 ÷ 500 × 100 = 50%; matches the stated 50% reserved-position minimum.

Takeaway: Actual shortlist still depends on eligible candidates and the correct reservation row.

Case 4: Reserved-seat OBC-NCL candidate: 245/500

Worked answer: 245 ÷ 500 × 100 = 49%; fails the stated 50% reserved-position minimum.

Takeaway: This is not an official RITES selected-candidate cutoff.

Case 5: CGPA shown as 8.2 without conversion

Worked answer: The notice requires the institution/university-issued CGPA conversion formula in the scanned evidence; 8.2 cannot be treated as 82% without that official conversion.

Takeaway: Avoid automatic multiply-by-10 assumptions.

Case 6: Two Civil Graduate candidates both at 78.00%

Worked answer: If both are otherwise eligible in the same relevant selection comparison, the older candidate ranks higher under the published tie rule.

Takeaway: DOB decides the stated tie, not extra certification points.

Case 7: Same marks and identical birth date

Worked answer: The seven-page RITES notice gives an older-age tie rule, but no further explicit fallback in the provided text.

Takeaway: Do not invent alphabetic order or 10th percentage as a second tie-break.

Case 8: Civil Diploma 91% vs Civil Degree 82%

Worked answer: They occupy distinct notified routes and qualifications; the percentages do not make one common Graduate-plus-Diploma rank list.

Takeaway: Compare within the applicable eligible opportunity only.

Case 9: 12th score is 95%; ITI score is 66%

Worked answer: RITES states merit based on the essential qualification percentage, not a 50:50 average of school and ITI marks.

Takeaway: A railway-style tenth-plus-ITI formula cannot be imported here.

Case 10: Degree result dated 4 November 2021

Worked answer: For Degree/Diploma, the notice excludes final-semester result dates before 5 November 2021.

Takeaway: This one-day difference matters; inspect official result evidence.

Case 11: Diploma final result dated 5 November 2021

Worked answer: It is not before 5 November 2021, but every other condition—including completion by the 2026 cutoff—still applies.

Takeaway: Do not infer eligibility from the passing-year check alone.

Case 12: ITI certificate obtained in 2019

Worked answer: The five-year Degree/Diploma rule is expressly not imposed on ITI passing years in this notice.

Takeaway: Prior apprenticeship and post-qualification experience exclusions still apply.

Case 13: Applicant completes 18 years on 5 November 2026

Worked answer: The candidate meets the advertisement’s stated minimum-age threshold as of that date, subject to correct DOB proof.

Takeaway: The notice does not publish a general maximum-age limit.

Case 14: Applicant completes 18 years on 6 November 2026

Worked answer: They are under 18 on the 5 November cutoff, even though applications remain open later.

Takeaway: Applying on 25 November does not shift the eligibility reference date.

Case 15: A prior Apprentices Act apprenticeship has been completed

Worked answer: The advertised previous-apprenticeship exclusion applies; this is not extra ranking credit.

Takeaway: Check NATS/NAPS history before application.

Case 16: Exactly 12 months of post-qualification work experience

Worked answer: The one-year-or-more job experience exclusion applies.

Takeaway: Splitting work into multiple engagements does not itself nullify the rule.

Case 17: Eleven months of post-qualification employment

Worked answer: The explicit one-year-or-more exclusion is not automatically triggered solely by eleven months; all other restrictions remain.

Takeaway: Do not present this as a guaranteed admission decision.

Case 18: PwBD certificate indicates 39% relevant disability

Worked answer: The stated benchmark for the horizontal PwBD benefit is at least 40% of relevant disability.

Takeaway: Suitability and formal disability certification are separate checks.

Case 19: Four PwBD earmarked seats are added to 281

Worked answer: 281 + 4 = 285 would double-count horizontal seats. The notified intake remains 281.

Takeaway: Horizontal reservation is nested within the full intake.

Case 20: Printed SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR columns add to 277

Worked answer: 32 + 12 + 68 + 21 + 144 = 277. This is four fewer than the 281 published total.

Takeaway: Do not self-assign the discrepancy to UR or another category.

Case 21: Graduate Engineering Civil row shows 40 but category sum 39

Worked answer: 5 + 3 + 10 + 3 + 18 = 39, while row total says 40.

Takeaway: Only an official RITES clarification can reconcile the extra seat.

Case 22: NATS application completed, RITES form not submitted

Worked answer: The notice requires the RITES document upload after apprenticeship-portal application; portal registration alone is incomplete.

Takeaway: Finish both stages by 25 November.

Case 23: RITES upload PDF is 10.8 MB

Worked answer: It exceeds the maximum 10 MB for the single consolidated PDF.

Takeaway: Compress legibly and ensure the required document set remains complete.

Case 24: OBC-NCL Central-format certificate dated 4 November 2025

Worked answer: The notice requires issue on or after 5 November 2025, so this date is one day too early.

Takeaway: Check certificate issue date, format and NCL validity.

Case 25: Two separate PDFs of 6 MB and 3 MB

Worked answer: The notice requires all requested evidence combined in one PDF, even though each individual file would be under 10 MB.

Takeaway: Combine into one file of no more than 10 MB.

Case 26: Candidate submits an updated RITES form twice

Worked answer: The notice prohibits multiple RITES form submissions; this differs from its latest-valid portal-application rule.

Takeaway: Complete internal checks before the single RITES upload.

Case 27: A finance graduate tries the Engineering Mechanical opportunity

Worked answer: Matching the notified educational credential matters; a general graduation degree cannot be assumed to replace Mechanical Engineering qualification.

Takeaway: A bigger seat group is not a legal eligibility shortcut.

Case 28: Applicant wants only a fixed home-city posting

Worked answer: The RITES form may collect preferences, but deployment can be across India as decided by RITES.

Takeaway: Do not pay relocation costs on an assumption about your chosen city.

Case 29: Candidate thinks Diploma stipend is ₹13,450 + ₹5,450

Worked answer: ₹5,450 DBT is explicitly included within the ₹13,450 total; it is not added again.

Takeaway: Compare total stipend, not double-counted components.

Case 30: A shortlist email is treated as permanent appointment

Worked answer: RITES offers a one-year apprenticeship with original-document verification at joining and no assured later job.

Takeaway: A merit list is not a regular-service appointment letter.

📚 Government training references and how to use them correctly

The Directorate General of Training apprenticeship overview explains the wider training framework and the distinction between trade-apprentice certification and graduate/technician apprenticeship. DGT also hosts a Government catalogue of optional-trade syllabi. Those sources can guide study in a matching actual trade, but they are not an exam syllabus announced by RITES. In particular, the three combined ITI 'Other trades' vacancies should not be decomposed into five separate trade-wise vacancies on the strength of a DGT catalogue.

For official changes and lists, use RITES Careers. The main application systems are NATS for Degree/Diploma candidates, NAPS for ITI candidates, and the mandatory RITES document submission form. The seven-page original RITES notification PDF is the controlling document for eligibility, seat figures and deadlines.

Final decision: a training placement, not a new written-exam preparation cycle

RITES advertises 281 one-year training seats across 17 specified discipline rows. Choose the qualification-matched route, audit your result date and prior history, and finish both official online stages. The unexplained four-seat reservation-row mismatch must remain visible until RITES corrects it. Use the 17 practical training orientations to strengthen subject familiarity; do not confuse them with a nonexistent recruitment CBT or with a promised site-specific training schedule.
