IIIT Pune Non-Teaching Recruitment 2026: 8 Group-B Posts, Separate Exams and Mandatory Hardcopy
The Indian Institute of Information Technology Pune has advertised eight permanent-track Group-B non-teaching vacancies through original Advertisement No. IIITP/NT/Rectt./2026/1–3 dated 29 October 2026. The official PDF was placed on the Institute website on 28 October, and E-Samarth submissions open on 29 October. Applicants have two separate deadline obligations: submit online by 28 November 2026 at 11:59 PM, AND ensure that a complete signed, self-attested and indexed printed application package is RECEIVED by 9 December 2026 at 5:30 PM. An online form alone does not complete the candidature evaluation.
This recruitment is unusually detailed: Annexures I–III provide actual written-test syllabi and JoPT tests, while Annexure IV prescribes the complete paper index. It is important not to confuse the Junior Superintendent qualifying practical test with the two engineering practical tests that count in final merit. All positions show 7th CPC Pay Level 06, but the official notice gives no guaranteed rupee salary, so the numeric monthly salary is Not specified, rather than borrowing an external basic-pay figure.

1. Exact posts, caste roster and why the numbers matter
📊 Distribution of eight advertised posts
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Junior Superintendent | 6 |
| Junior Engineer Civil | 1 |
| Junior Engineer Electrical | 1 |
The six Junior Superintendent posts are UR 3 / OBC-NCL 2 / SC 1. Civil JE and Electrical JE each have one UR vacancy. Across the entire advertisement the advertised category counts are UR 5, OBC-NCL 2 and SC 1; no separate EWS, ST or PwBD vacancy count is shown, although rules for permissible concessions are explained. The Institute may revise vacancies; do not convert the absence of a specifically reserved seat into a claim that a category of Indian citizen cannot apply to an UR post.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| UR | 5 |
| OBC-NCL | 2 |
| SC | 1 |
2. Post-wise education and actual alternatives
Junior Superintendent (six seats): either First-class Bachelor’s degree with six years of relevant experience, OR postgraduate qualification with four years relevant experience. The word OR matters: a postgraduate candidate does not have to show the six-year bachelor's-route experience; likewise six years is not interchangeable with two-year engineering-route experience. Preference for establishment matters, academic administration, accounts, audit, RTI, store/purchase, legal work and comparable institutional administration is desirable experience, not a new university degree requirement.
Junior Engineer (Civil, one UR seat): engineering degree in relevant Civil discipline plus two years of experience, OR engineering diploma plus five years. The engineering qualification and hands-on work history must be in the advertised relevant domain; a diploma without five years does not satisfy the explicit alternative. Civil construction/maintenance, BOQ/quantity surveying, estimating, CPWD/PWD specifications, drainage and infrastructure work are listed as desirable functions; do not treat the entire list as separate mandatory certificates.
Junior Engineer (Electrical, one UR seat): relevant engineering degree plus two years, OR engineering diploma plus five years. The preferred domain involves LT/HT systems, transformers, substation and panel maintenance, DG/UPS, HVAC, VRF/VRV, safety, electrical estimating and campus systems. Civil experience does not automatically satisfy the electrical post and the Diploma/degree routes must remain separate.
First-class marks and eligibility evidence
The original notification says qualifications must be from recognised Boards/Universities/Institutes. Where the degree-awarding institution has no prescribed conversion formula or has not defined an equivalent First Class, 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (as applicable) is treated as First Class. Do not impose a universal 60% threshold on the postgraduate Junior Superintendent alternative: the PDF only specifies a Post Graduate qualification plus four years of relevant work for that route. Equivalence requires proof at verification.
Work experience that genuinely counts
Only full-time work is counted; a single stint of under six months is ignored. Each experience certificate must bear official letterhead, the competent authority's signature, designation and pay/pay level during service. The Institute decides domain relevance. A candidate with many years on a resume but missing official proof could fail scrutiny. Complete the qualifying education/experience by 28 November 2026, the notified online closing date. The notification does not authorise using a later joining date to complete experience.
3. Age 32, relaxation and reservations — do not guess the cutoff
The vacancy matrix shows 32 years upper age for all three. Eligibility and qualification/experience are considered at the online application closing date, but the notice does not state an explicit date in the separate age paragraph; do not silently invent a birth-date cutoff. SC/ST/OBC-NCL, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen get relaxation only under the applicable Government of India rule for reserved posts. A regular Central/State Government, autonomous-body, CFTI, IIT/NIT/IIIT or PSU employee with at least three years continuous regular service may receive up to five years if the new post is in the same/allied line. A contractual/outsourced IIIT Pune employee may receive a concession equivalent to continuous equivalent-post service, capped at ten years. These two concessions are not automatically cumulative or universally available.
OBC eligibility for reservation must align with the Central List; the OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be valid at closing and renewed at DV when required. PwBD certificate must show at least 40% benchmark disability for reservation/concession claims under the cited rules. No seat is separately designated PwBD in the 8-seat roster; the notice nonetheless sets out concession documentation.
4. Fees: GST included and no second-post shortcut
| Category | Fee excluding 18% GST | GST | Total payable |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR / OBC / EWS | ₹1,000 | ₹180 | ₹1,180 |
| SC / ST / PwBD / Female | ₹750 | ₹135 | ₹885 |
| Regular IIIT Pune employees | Waived | Not applicable | ₹0 |
The paid application fee is non-refundable. Each role requires its own form and payment; an applicant choosing both Junior Engineer disciplines must not pay for only one and expect the second to remain valid. For exempt current regular employees the exemption is for their employment status, not a general exemption for all former or outsourced workers.
5. Submission is a two-part process; read the original Annexure-IV
First, online: visit the IIIT Pune Non-Teaching E-Samarth portal, register a login, enter qualifications/experience/category carefully, upload all required evidence, pay the applicable fee, and submit by 28 November at 23:59. Save the unique E-Samarth Form Number, which also identifies the applicant for the written test; the PDF says no enquiry for lost form numbers will be entertained. A submitted application cannot be altered or resubmitted. Apply separately for each post.
Second, hard copy: print the finally submitted application, fee receipt and uploaded documents. Prepare a cover page/document index in Annexure-IV order; serial-number and self-attest every page. Put the fee receipt immediately after the index, then the application signed on every page, then all supporting papers. Send/hand-deliver to The Registrar, Indian Institute of Information Technology Pune, PO – Talegaon, Pune, Maharashtra – 410507. Mark the envelope “Application for the post of [exact post]” and “E-Samarth Form No. [number]”. The complete pack must arrive by 9 December 2026 at 17:30; posting it on that date does not meet a receipt deadline. Eligibility is assessed from this complete physical set; evidence cannot be added after the prescribed receipt cutoff.
Annexure-IV evidence checklist
The original index requests a cover/index, fee proof, all-page signed application, passport photograph, Class X date-of-birth document, Class XII certificate/marks, relevant UG/PG/PhD awards and semester-wise marks, SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS claim documents as applicable, employer NOC, experience certificates, photo ID and any other support for form claims. Working Government/PSU/autonomous-body applicants need NOC and vigilance clearance according to the notice; alternative submission at written test/JoPT is conditional, and lack of NOC/clearance can block the exam. Candidates are also asked for two personal/professional references; current employees should preferably include a recent employer reference. On examination day carry original documents and the signed completed online form in PDF form as instructed.
6. Screening, a real three-day objection window and admit cards
The Institute's Screening Committee will verify the physical forms. It may seek missing clarifications with three working days to respond. After publishing a provisional eligible list, it gives candidates three working days from the posting to submit an eligibility representation. The final provisional eligibility list follows, and additional shortlisting can use higher qualifications, greater/more relevant experience or completed supporting paperwork. The bare minimum qualifications alone do not guarantee a test invitation.
Admit cards: the PDF says they will be issued to eligible candidates through the Samarth portal or registered email ordinarily at least 21 days before the exam. This is a general issuing rule, not a released admit-card or examination date. The exam will be organised at IIIT Pune, Talegaon; no TA/DA, and requests to change shift, date or centre will not be entertained. Check website/portal and email rather than expecting individual eligibility letters.
7. Written exams and practical tests: three DIFFERENT marking systems
📈 Junior Superintendent written-paper marks
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| General Aptitude (JS) | 40 |
| Domain Knowledge (JS) | 60 |
Junior Superintendent — Annexure-I: Written examination 100 marks / 90 minutes, ¼ negative marking for each wrong objective answer. Part A (40): Quantitative Aptitude, General Intelligence & Reasoning, English/comprehension, General Awareness and Basic Computer Knowledge. Part B (60): Constitution and governance, office procedures, FR/SR, CCS Leave/Conduct/CCA, payroll and allowances, pensions/NPS, GFR-2017 and GeM, RTI and other Acts, anti-ragging, NEP-2020, e-Office/Samarth and basic institutional administration. To be considered for JoPT, written percentage must reach 50% for GEN/OBC/EWS or 45% for SC/ST, subject to screening and selection discretion. The JoPT is 50 marks / 60 minutes in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, drafting and data entry; at least 50% is required but JoPT marks are NOT added to final merit. Ranked selection is written 100-mark merit, only after passing JoPT.
Junior Engineer (Civil) — Annexure-II: Written examination 50 marks / 60 minutes, ¼ negative marking. It is a domain-only test spanning building materials, concrete mix/workability, building codes and construction, green buildings, valuation, estimates, contracts, surveying, soil/geotechnical, roads, drainage/water, structural analysis, RCC and works procurement. Then a 50-mark / 60-minute JoPT on estimation/measurement/costing, surveying, material tests and contracts. Final merit written 50 + practical 50 = 100, subject to announced shortlisting. Do not copy the Junior Superintendent 50/45 written cutoff into this JE role; the JE annexure does not separately prescribe it.
Junior Engineer (Electrical) — Annexure-III: Written examination 50 marks / 60 minutes, ¼ negative marking. The actual topics include resistance/capacitance, power measurements, DC machines and transformers, generation/transmission/distribution, protection and switchgear, estimating/earthing, contracts, illumination, HVAC and electronic-waste management. Its 50-mark / 60-minute JoPT/trade test covers transformers, switchgears, HT/LT cables, commercial and domestic internal wiring, UPS/DG selection and kVA rating, and contracts. Final merit written 50 + practical 50 = 100.
For practical-test invitations, the notice allows up to eight times the vacancies to be shortlisted, subject to Institute discretion. This is a maximum indicative shortlist multiplier, not 8 vacancies multiplied into a larger hiring target.
📈 Junior Engineer final-merit components
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| JE Written marks | 50 |
| JE Practical marks | 50 |
8. Result, answer key, tie-breaking, DV and regularisation
The Institute commits to publishing the final results/select list on its official website, but has not announced an actual test date, answer-key release schedule, result date or rank cutoff in this notification. Hence no fabricated published Result, Answer Key, Admit Card or Cutoff record should be inserted in those lifecycle modules at initial import; retain the stages here, then update them when distinct official notices appear.
Tie order is (1) higher written Domain Knowledge marks, (2) higher relevant experience in Government institution, (3) older age, and (4) alphabetical first name. The selection committee may approve a waitlist valid for one year; a candidate does not gain automatic appointment merely by appearing on it. Official appointment/offer details go only to the finally selected candidates, subject to original document and antecedent scrutiny. The PDF states a one-year probation, possibly extendable, and later regularisation after satisfactory probation and other Institute requirements. That does not mean this vacancy is a one-year contract job.
9. Salary: actual notice vs internet estimates
Each position is Group B, Pay Level 06 (7th CPC). The original notice does not state a rupee basic-pay range, monthly consolidated salary or assured net take-home. Therefore pay is written “Not specified in rupees — Pay Level 06”, with structured salary numbers null. Readers should not confuse Pay Level 06 with a fixed ₹ value or import salaries from a different IIIT advertisement. Allowances/pay fixation depend on the applicable IIIT Act, statutes and appointing authority rules.
10. Mistakes that can cancel an otherwise competitive application
- Applying online but never sending the signed physical set; selection eligibility depends on the hard copy received by 9 December.
- Treating all three positions as the same exam pattern; only JS includes general aptitude and only JS JoPT is merely qualifying.
- Assuming a bachelor's + two years satisfies JS (it needs six), or a diploma + two years satisfies JE (it needs five).
- Treating 59.9 or a self-declared CGPA conversion as unquestionable First Class; use the university rule, with 60% /6.5 only in the notice's fallback situation.
- Counting part-time jobs or an isolated work stint under six months.
- Missing serial numbers, self-attestation, all-page signature, fee receipt immediately after index, envelope post/Form No.
- Paying for one post but entering several applications.
- Missing employer NOC/vigilance clearance, evidence of reservation/category validity or original documents at test.
- Assuming the exam date, answer-key date, official merit cutoff or joining day is already published; it is not.

12. Editorial decision guide: choose the right advertisement, not merely the same Pay Level
The three posts are not interchangeable. Junior Superintendent is a six-vacancy administrative post with an academic/administrative degree-plus-experience route. Junior Engineer (Civil) and Junior Engineer (Electrical) each have a single UR vacancy and require discipline-relevant engineering education and documented technical experience. All three are Group-B, Level-06 roles; that similarity does not make an administrative graduate eligible for an engineering post or permit electrical work history to substitute for civil engineering service.
| Candidate profile | Route to assess | Essential evidence or obstacle |
|---|---|---|
| First-class bachelor's holder, 6 years documented full-time relevant administration | Junior Superintendent, route A | Awarding institution's first-class definition + six years of relevant work |
| Postgraduate holder, 4 years documented full-time relevant office work | Junior Superintendent, route B | Recognised PG + four relevant full-time years; no extra made-up PG percentage |
| Civil engineering graduate, 2 years relevant full-time civil-site/campus work | Junior Engineer (Civil), degree route | Relevant degree + experience certificates stating projects and role |
| Civil engineering diploma holder, 5 years relevant full-time civil work | Junior Engineer (Civil), diploma route | Diploma and five years; degree-route's two-year condition does not apply |
| Electrical engineering graduate, 2 years relevant electrical works | Junior Engineer (Electrical), degree route | Degree + experience in the electrical domain |
| Electrical diploma holder, 5 years relevant electrical works | Junior Engineer (Electrical), diploma route | Recognised electrical diploma + five years documented experience |
| Any applicant with only internships or part-time work | Check carefully before paying | Notice requires qualifying full-time experience; internships are not a substitute |
The table is a reading aid, not an eligibility certificate. IIIT Pune will evaluate equivalence, relevance, duration, experience proof, category benefits and the submitted hardcopy. In particular, an academic degree alone does not make a candidate experienced; similarly, an experienced employee without the correct qualification cannot cure that defect with a strong written-test score.
Practical experience arithmetic: the trap in overlapping dates
A candidate often lists 12 months at one organisation plus another overlapping 12 months at a second employer, and casually calls that 24 months. Do not double-count any overlap in full-time service. Map a timeline of joining and relieving dates, identify periods that the institute treats as admissible, and set aside individual experience spells shorter than six months as the notice requires. This paragraph explains a prudent verification method; final admissibility belongs to IIIT Pune, not to a self-computed total.
For a Junior Superintendent, the record should make administrative nature evident: designation, department, file and office work, personnel establishment, accounts, procurement, project administration or institutional operations. For a Civil JE, it should identify civil works, measured quantities, site supervision, estimates, materials or construction maintenance. For an Electrical JE, it should identify electrical equipment and distribution, safety, wiring, plant maintenance, generators/UPS, testing or installations. Generic wording such as handled miscellaneous office work is much weaker evidence of domain relevance than a signed certificate naming the actual responsibilities performed.
Qualification equivalence: first class is not automatically the same at every university
For the Junior Superintendent bachelor's route, first class is essential. Read the marks/grade classification on the degree documents and the awarding university's published equivalence rule. The notice refers to a 60% or 6.5 CGPA fallback where the relevant institution has no stated first-class or conversion definition; do not apply a general 60% cut-off to the postgraduate alternative when one is not stated. For Civil and Electrical JE routes, the notice specifies an appropriate engineering qualification and corresponding experience, but does not impose the same generic 60%-marks condition. Putting 60% into every Education row would incorrectly exclude applicants.
13. Twenty-day administrative checklist before sending a postal packet
Online submission is a prerequisite, not the finish line. The institute separately requires physical receipt of the completed supporting set. A candidate who submits the web form on 28 November yet does not deliver the file by 9 December is exposed to rejection. The physical-file deadline is a receipt deadline, not the day on which the envelope is posted.
Step A — eligibility dossier before fees. Read the particular advertisement number; reconcile names, dates of birth and qualification titles across form and certificates; choose one of the actual degree-plus-service alternatives; collect category certificates in the required central format when claiming reservation; check whether government employment requires NOC and vigilance clearance. Check the latest published addenda rather than importing rules from unrelated IIITs or old examinations.
Step B — portal identity and correct application. Visit the official iiitpnt.samarth.edu.in E-Samarth portal. Use a working email address and phone, choose the exact post and do not misidentify Civil as Electrical or the reverse. Review every entry before final submission because the notice says edited or resubmitted applications are not accepted. Record the application/Form Number carefully. Separate post applications require separate fees.
Step C — category fee with GST. UR/OBC/EWS pay ₹1,000 plus 18% GST (₹1,180). SC/ST/PwBD/female candidates pay ₹750 plus 18% GST (₹885); regular IIIT Pune employees are fee-exempt. Do not confuse a temporary/outsource engagement with a regular employee exemption. The notification calls the fee non-refundable, so verify the category claim before payment.
Step D — print, sign, index, certify. Produce the submitted form and receipt, assemble the Annexure-IV-style document index, put documents in the notice's required order, mark consecutive page numbers, self-attest and sign every page wherever required, and make copies legible. Experience evidence should show joining/relieving dates, full-time duties and pay/grade, rather than just an HR email saying worked here. Preserve copies and a complete scan for your own records.
Step E — label the envelope accurately. Write the post applied for and E-Samarth Form Number on the cover. Address it to The Registrar, Indian Institute of Information Technology Pune, PO – Talegaon, Pune, Maharashtra – 410507. Use a delivery method allowing tracking and preserve delivery acknowledgment. The Institute requires arrival by 9 December 2026, 5:30 PM; calculate courier/transit time conservatively.
Step F — keep evidence after delivery. Save portal confirmation, transaction receipt, signed application PDF, post/tracking number and delivery proof. Watch both your email and the official institute recruitment page for screening, clarifications, provisional list, final eligibility list and admit-card issue; do not assume email alone is the only publication mechanism.
14. Screening: three working days are a real, separate compliance window
The Screening Committee makes eligibility decisions on documents received, not on unsupported declarations in an online form. If it requests further particulars or documents, the advertisement provides three working days for the candidate to respond. A subsequent provisional eligibility/shortlist can be followed by a separate three-working-day representation window. The two events are not the same: one is a response to a scrutiny query, the other is a challenge/clarification after provisional publication. Watch the institute site during both windows; there is no published calendar date for either event.
What a useful representation contains: the advertised post, accurate candidate/Form No., the exact factual point disputed, a relevant paragraph/qualification provision, and copies of documents already supplied or requested under the permitted process. Avoid inventing permissions to amend the original online form; the advertisement says the form cannot be edited after final submission. The authorities retain discretion on eligibility, equivalence and final shortlisting.
15. Actual test design: prepare for the distinction, not for a made-up common exam
| Post | Stage-I written paper | Stage-II practical | Final merit calculation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junior Superintendent | 100 marks, 90 min: 40 General Aptitude + 60 Domain | 50 marks, 60 min; minimum 25/50; qualifying only | Written marks out of 100, provided JoPT is qualified |
| Junior Engineer (Civil) | 50 domain marks, 60 min | 50 marks, 60 min; assessed Civil tasks | Written 50 + JoPT 50 = 100 |
| Junior Engineer (Electrical) | 50 domain marks, 60 min | 50 marks, 60 min; assessed Electrical tasks | Written 50 + JoPT 50 = 100 |
All written papers penalise each wrong answer by one-quarter of the applicable mark. Treat it as negative marking, but do not infer that every question is worth one mark or assume a fixed number of questions: the notice does not state a common question count. A candidate should follow the exam-day paper and Institute instructions on answer marking.
For Junior Superintendent, 50% (GEN/OBC/EWS) or 45% (SC/ST) is the notified Stage-I minimum to be considered for Stage-II. These are stage qualifying marks, not an advance prediction of the merit score for one of the six vacancies. JoPT requires 50% but its marks are not added to final selection. Example: a candidate scoring 78/100 written and 27/50 JoPT has a merit score of 78, not 105 or 105/150. A candidate scoring 84/100 written but 24/50 JoPT fails the practical threshold despite a high written mark.
For Civil and Electrical JE, there is no basis to copy Junior Superintendent's 50/45 Stage-I thresholds. Their published final scoring is 50 written + 50 practical. Example: Civil candidate A with 39 written and 35 practical = 74/100; candidate B with 36 written and 44 practical = 80/100. The second candidate has the higher combined total, subject to all institute conditions. These numbers are illustrative calculations only, not actual scores, cutoffs or official results.
The notice contemplates shortlisting of up to eight times the advertised vacancies for the practical stage, subject to the institute's decision. That yields up to 48 Junior Superintendent, 8 Civil JE and 8 Electrical JE candidates as illustrative maxima under that ratio—not a promised or fixed count. Actual lists may vary and will be published through official channels.
16. Junior Superintendent: how office-domain knowledge is evaluated
The 40-mark General Aptitude portion spans quantitative aptitude, reasoning/general intelligence, English comprehension, general awareness and basic computer knowledge. The 60-mark Domain Knowledge section covers a substantially different body of work: the Constitution and parliamentary/government machinery; office procedure and filing; recruitment/reservation; Fundamental and Supplementary Rules; conduct/disciplinary/leave/deputation rules; pay/allowances, TA/LTC/medical entitlements, pensions/NPS/GPF; budget and procurement under GFR 2017, GeM and CPPP; RTI/RTE, taxation, POSH, arbitration and institutional law; NEP 2020, technical higher education administration and ranking frameworks; and Samarth/e-Office/IT-based governance.
A practical preparation method is to make a topic-to-document matrix rather than memorise a random coaching list: (a) office procedure—what registers, noting, drafting and dispatch are for; (b) finance—what approval and procurement rules are meant to control; (c) service matters—where pay, leave, conduct and reservation rules apply; (d) higher education—how admissions, records, governance and digital systems differ from a typical commercial office. These are editorial study directions, not an unpublished weighting formula.
For JoPT, practise taking a short administrative note through a workflow: correct letterhead; subject and reference; inward/outward details; clear official-language paragraphing; a precise Word document; numerical data entry, sorting and filtering in Excel; and a brief PowerPoint communication. Competence is judged through the institute's practical test, not through merely declaring proficiency in an application.
17. Civil JE: how the published topics connect to campus engineering
Civil Stage-I tests engineering domain knowledge, not a 40-mark mixed general-aptitude paper. Its announced syllabus spans building materials, cement/aggregates and construction technologies; concrete mix/workability, curing and quality; construction sequence and damp-proofing; estimating and valuation, rate analysis and bills of quantities; surveying and levelling; geotechnical investigations and bearing capacity; road materials and pavement work; water supply, sewage and environmental engineering; structural analysis/RCC; and works provisions of GFR. The institute says lists may not be exhaustive, so avoid treating these as a fixed question-by-question blueprint.
In the 50-mark Civil JoPT, the notice identifies estimating/measurement/costing, surveying, material testing and contracts. For useful preparation, take one fictional measurement-book entry and explain length × breadth × depth, deduction rules and the connection to a BOQ; interpret a level-book exercise; explain what a concrete test report actually measures; and recognise the difference between an estimate, a running bill and a final payment. Such exercises are preparation examples, not claims that IIIT Pune announced a particular trade-test task or instrument.
The candidate's experience documents should be able to substantiate the advertised domain. A broad statement such as worked in construction may fail to show whether the applicant handled planning, civil drawings, supervision, billing, inspection, quality control or campus maintenance; a certified project/service description is more informative.
18. Electrical JE: what practical readiness should mean
Electrical Stage-I is a 50-mark electrical-domain MCQ examination. Its syllabus includes elementary circuit laws and AC/DC quantities; measurement of voltage/current/power and instrument transformers; DC machines and transformer principles/testing; power generation and T&D fundamentals; control and protection/switchgear; wiring and earthing, estimates and safety; utilisation of electrical energy; UPS/DG and power systems; HVAC basics; contracts and GFR works. It is not the Civil syllabus with department names changed.
The 50-mark electrical JoPT specifically mentions transformers, switchgear, HT/LT cables, internal wiring, UPS and DG selection including kVA rating, and contracts. Study how connected loads and power factor influence kVA, why circuit protection and isolation matter, and how inspection or preventive maintenance is documented. Any numerical load example should be labelled practice, because the notification does not publish a particular sample calculation, apparatus list or viva rubric.
Electrical experience should describe actual responsibility and evidence: transformer maintenance/testing, protection schemes, cable/wiring installations, DG/UPS operations, safe isolation, plant records, electrical bills/estimates or institutional utility management, as appropriate. A five-year Diploma applicant must demonstrate five years, not borrow the two-year Degree threshold.
19. Scoring, ranking, selection notices and what does NOT yet exist
The institute identifies a tie-break sequence: higher written Domain Knowledge marks, then greater relevant experience in a Government institution, then the older candidate, then alphabetical order of the first name. It may maintain a one-year waitlist panel. These conditions affect the later ranking; they do not establish that a select list already exists or that waitlisted persons have a vested appointment right.
The advertisement does not give an actual written examination date, centre allotment list, admit-card release date, answer-key issue timetable, response-sheet notice, final merit marks, offer-date schedule or joining date. Those must remain separate future notices rather than fabricated active answer-key, result or admit-card objects. When the institute eventually publishes them, verify the official file and populate the appropriate linked lifecycle module.
Original verification, any antecedent checks, and the one-year extendable probation belong after selection. Successful probation under the applicable service conditions is not the same as appointment on the date of an online application. Equally, the Institute can cancel or adjust the recruitment under its notice; no applicant acquires appointment just by qualifying for the test.
20. Decision matrix: frequent errors before the final click
| Risk | Why it matters | Correct action |
|---|---|---|
| Selecting the wrong JE discipline | Separate Advt 2 and Advt 3, separate qualification domains | Check post title and qualification before paying |
| Counting short/part-time work as full-time service | Essential experience and individual spell conditions | Verify actual duration and certificates |
| Applying without government-service documents | NOC/vigilance conditions may affect eligibility | Obtain employer-side documents early |
| Assuming online submission is enough | Signed self-attested hardcopy is mandatory | Track package delivery before 9 December 17:30 |
| Sending the package on the last day | Receipt deadline, not mailing deadline | Dispatch early and retain proof |
| Confusing practical marks across posts | JS JoPT qualifies; JE JoPT counts | Follow post-specific merit method |
| Treating 50%/45% as final merit cutoffs | Published only for JS Stage-I advancement | Distinguish qualifying percentage from final competition |

21. Final editorial checklist for applicants
The most valuable advantage here is document compliance plus the correct exam strategy, not a rumoured question paper. Confirm the specific post, exact essential qualification and full-time service, recognised category certificate, non-refundable fee and separate post application where relevant. Submit online by 28 November 2026, 23:59, then make sure the numbered, signed and self-attested hardcopy reaches the Registrar by 9 December 2026, 17:30. Prepare the 100-mark administrative paper with qualifying JoPT if applying for Junior Superintendent; prepare the 50+50 engineering track if applying for Civil or Electrical. Use only later IIIT Pune notices to establish actual examination, admit-card, answer-key, result and joining events.
Frequently asked questions
Q1. Are these eight direct-recruitment regular jobs?
Yes. The Group-B recruitment has a one-year probation which may be extended; regularisation follows satisfactory probation and institute rules. It is not advertised as a fixed-term one-year contract.
Q2. What are the online and hardcopy deadlines?
Online must be submitted by 28 November 2026, 11:59 PM. The self-attested signed printed pack must be received by 9 December 2026, 5:30 PM.
Q3. Does posting my physical packet on 9 December count?
No. The notice prescribes receipt by the Institute, not merely dispatch. The Institute disclaims postal/courier delay.
Q4. Is Junior Superintendent 6 years of experience compulsory even with a PG?
No. Alternative one: first-class bachelor degree plus 6 years relevant experience. Alternative two: postgraduate degree plus 4 years relevant experience.
Q5. Can I use a diploma for JE Civil or JE Electrical?
Yes, a relevant Engineering Diploma with 5 years of relevant experience is an alternative to relevant Engineering Degree with 2 years of experience.
Q6. Which post has 50 marks in written and 50 in practical for final merit?
Both JE Civil and JE Electrical. Junior Superintendent has written 100 final marks and JoPT qualifying only.
Q7. Is there negative marking?
Yes, one-quarter mark per wrong answer in each of the three Stage-I written schemes.
Q8. What are the official JS qualifying marks?
Minimum written cutoff for JoPT is 50% GEN/OBC/EWS, 45% SC/ST; practical must reach at least 50% and does not count in final written-based rank.
Q9. Do JEs also have a 50% written cutoff?
The JE annexures do not specify that same 50/45 category threshold. Do not transfer the JS-specific cutoff to JE.
Q10. Is the written exam scheduled yet?
Not specified as of original advertisement; only the examination schemes and usual admit-card issuing lead time are defined.
Q11. What is the monthly salary in rupees?
Not specified. The PDF provides Pay Level 06 (7th CPC), not fixed rupee monthly pay.

₹885 including GST (₹750 plus ₹135). Regular IIIT Pune employees are fee-exempt.
Q14. Can I edit my submitted Samarth form?
No. The original instruction explicitly bars changes and re-submission after final submission.
Q15. What must be written on the envelope?
Specify Application for the post of [exact designation] and E-Samarth Form No. [unique number].
Q16. What is Annexure-IV?
It is the prescribed cover/index for organising all numbered and self-attested documents, with fee receipt immediately after index.
Q17. Are all experience periods counted?
Only full-time experience; any single period shorter than six months is not counted.
Q18. How does first class work with CGPA?
University conversion rule controls; if none is defined/first-class equivalent not prescribed, 60% or 6.5 CGPA is treated as First Class.
Q19. Who receives five-year age relaxation?
Regular eligible public-sector/academic public bodies personnel with three years continuous regular service in same/allied cadre may receive up to five years, per notice.
Q20. How does the IIIT Pune contractor age relaxation work?
IIIT Pune contractual/outsourced employee in equivalent same/allied work may claim continuous service period, maximum ten years, subject to Institute requirements.
Q21. Will I get TA/DA to sit the tests?
No TA/DA is paid for the written or Job-Oriented Practical Test.
Q22. What happens if provisional screening mistakenly excludes me?
Official scheme gives three working days from provisional-list publication to send eligibility representation by email.
Q23. Is an answer key already released?
No answer-key publication is announced in the original 29 October advertisement.
Q24. What is the order of tie breakers?
Higher written domain score; more relevant Government-institution experience; older age; alphabetical first name.
Q25. Is a waitlist guaranteed?
No. The Institute may maintain a panel for one year from approval; it is discretionary.
Q26. What is the exam venue?
The selection process is to take place at the Talegaon, Pune IIIT campus. Exact dates, shifts and seating are to be notified.

Junior Engineer (Electrical) — IIIT Pune Recruitment 2026
Junior Engineer (Electrical) — One UR seat; power systems and practical
A separate one-seat unreserved electrical Group-B Level-06 vacancy appears as advertisement IIITP/NT/Rectt./2026/3. Required eligibility is relevant Engineering Degree + 2 years full-time relevant experience OR relevant Engineering Diploma + 5 years. An experienced Civil contractor cannot present Civil-only experience as automatic Electrical eligibility; the Institute decides relevance.
Original notice's technical work domain
Preferred experience relates to power distribution, LT/HT electrical installations and maintenance, transformers, substations, DG generators, UPS/power backup, electrical panels/cabling, earthing, lighting, fire alarm/ELV, HVAC/VRF/VRV, central AC/chillers/cooling towers and safety compliance. This hints at the Institute's multi-service campus duties, but not every component is guaranteed to be assigned or inspected in the practical test. Evidence should itemise actual employer, designation/pay and work activity, dated for each period. Single experience spells below six months do not count.
Official written and JoPT patterns
Stage-I 50-mark/60-minute Electrical domain MCQ test, ¼ negative marking. Annexure-III covers basic electrical quantities, measurement and instruments, DC machines and transformers, generation/T&D, protective relays, switchgear, conductors, electrical costing, contracting, energy utilisation, HVAC and waste/GFR. Stage-II 50-mark/60-minute JoPT/trade test: transformers, switch gears, HT/LT cable work, internal commercial/domestic wiring, DG/UPS kVA selection and contracts. Final merit = 50 written + 50 practical, explicitly unlike the qualifying-only JS practical. The advertised 32-year upper limit, category/employee relaxations and document tests still apply.
Evidence and safe role preparation
Prepare evidence for the actual relevant Engineering qualification and full-time post-qualification employment. At practical preparation stage, rehearse interpreting panel single-line diagrams, matching a transformer/switchgear rating to duty, estimating loads/kVA correctly and recognising cable and earthing safety. These are study examples, not official individual questions. The notice does not publish examiner checklists, question counts or a fixed per-topic distribution.
Application to service
Samarth submission and fee by 28 Nov 23:59 plus full signed hardcopy received by 9 Dec 17:30. An eventual shortlisted candidate receives a portal/email admit card ordinarily at least 21 days before test, undergoes electrical written and practical selection, then combined-merit assessment, DV and antecedent scrutiny. Only selected candidates are emailed a final offer; appointment begins with one-year probation, potentially extendable, and regularisation subject to performance. No real result date, answer-key event, numeric salary, joining date or exam date has been announced.

Vacancy identity and Electrical qualification routes
IIITP/NT/Rectt./2026/3 covers one UR Junior Engineer (Electrical) position, Group-B Pay Level 06. The employer accepts a relevant Electrical Engineering Degree plus two years of admissible full-time relevant work OR a relevant Electrical Engineering Diploma plus five years. Distinguish this separate electrical discipline from the Civil JE route; a generic engineering degree or unrelated years of employment should not be presented as automatically eligible without the recruiting institute's determination. The notice does not announce a blanket first-class or 60%-minimum engineering marks rule for this JE post.
Evidence of work should make equipment and duties clear: campus HT/LT installations, transformers, switchgear/protection, electrical wiring and panels, generators, UPS/power backup, testing/maintenance, cable systems, electrical load assessment and power distribution, as relevant to the applicant's real employment. Do not invent a technical certificate as a compulsory condition when the advertisement has not imposed one.
How Electrical JE work differs from Civil site work
Distribution and reliability: electrical supply to a campus depends on correctly identified equipment, isolation and safe maintenance. A role-based candidate should recognise load paths, key protection equipment and the reason for planned maintenance registers rather than just know schematic symbols.
Transformers and switchgear: understand transformer ratings, basic losses/efficiency, standard basic tests and protective functions of switchgear. A practical or site discussion often concerns how a fault is detected and isolated; do not assume a particular relay or product model will be supplied at the actual JoPT.
HT/LT cables and internal wiring: focus on correct use of cable rating, insulation, earthing, safety, and basic circuits. Read diagrams for connections and protection; never describe live electrical work as something to perform unsupervised or outside approved safety protocols.
UPS, DG and load: how electrical demand, operating load, power factor and kVA relate to selecting a UPS/DG set is within the announced practical domain. A candidate should understand the principle of load aggregation, diversity and appropriate safety allowance. The numerical example below is illustrative preparation, not an official problem or approved installation design.
Stage-I Electrical paper: 50 marks, 60 minutes
This is an objective Electrical domain test, not the Civil paper and not Junior Superintendent's 40+60 general-plus-domain mix. Its core advertised topic areas include:
- Elementary electrical laws: power, energy, voltage, resistance, inductance/capacitance and AC/DC fundamentals.
- Measurements: voltage/current/power, instruments, phase and three-phase systems, power factor, CT/PT and relevant test equipment.
- DC machines: construction, operating principles, speed/torque, starting and braking concepts.
- Transformers: principle, equivalent circuit, open/short-circuit tests, losses, regulation and operation.
- Generation, transmission and distribution: load factors, conductors, power lines/cables and system operation basics.
- Switchgear and protection: fuses, breakers, faults, protective schemes, earthing and safety.
- Estimation and costing: electrical installation items, material take-off, specifications and basic engineering estimates.
- Contracts: purchase/works contracts and dispute or compliance considerations.
- Utilisation of electrical energy: heating, lighting, welding, drives and related applications.
- HVAC and building services: major equipment and relevant electrical implications.
- Waste/works procurement: waste management and GFR works context.
Negative marking is a one-quarter penalty for a wrong written answer. The notice does not announce a fixed number of questions, Electrical subject weightages or a standalone JE passing percentage comparable with Junior Superintendent's 50/45 Stage-I rule.
Stage-II Electrical JoPT — a marks-bearing 50/50 assessment
The published topics for the 60-minute, 50-mark JoPT are transformers, switchgear, HT/LT cables, domestic/commercial internal wiring, UPS and DG set selection/kVA rating, and contracts. The practical's score is included in final ranking. That is the important difference from Junior Superintendent, where practical marks are qualifying only.
Practice scenario 1 — equipment rating (not official): a hypothetical 30 kW load at 0.8 power factor corresponds to 37.5 kVA before any practical design margins or operating constraints. This arithmetical illustration shows why the units kW and kVA must not be confused. It is not an electrical installation recommendation and does not substitute for manufacturer standards or a qualified engineer's design.
Practice scenario 2 — safe maintenance record: suppose a campus lighting panel has a recurrent tripping complaint. In a fictional record, document equipment ID, reported fault, authorised isolation/safety procedure, tests by qualified personnel, action taken, supervisory approval and time of return to service. This checks technical documentation and reasoning, not permission to conduct hazardous live testing.
Practice scenario 3 — estimate and contract: choose a hypothetical cable replacement and describe the difference between scope, quantity, equipment specification, unit rate, inspection and completion certificate. Do not invent a tender rule or procurement cut-off not present in the advertisement.
Merit calculation example — illustrative only
Candidate A: 36/50 written and 40/50 Electrical JoPT → 76/100. Candidate B: 42/50 written and 30/50 JoPT → 72/100. Candidate A has a higher combined total even though candidate B has a stronger MCQ score, subject to all published eligibility and selection rules. These are not official results or final cutoffs.
Electrical-specific eligibility and preparation risk checks
| Situation | Risk and the correct interpretation |
|---|---|
| Electrical diploma holder with four qualifying years | The diploma pathway requires five relevant full-time years |
| Relevant degree holder with two years documented electrical service | May match the degree route; relevance still checked |
| Applicant with only generic office work | Does not automatically demonstrate electrical domain experience |
| Candidate preparing only for Civil surveying and concrete | Wrong discipline; read Annexure-III electrical syllabus |
| Candidate counting JoPT as a simple pass/fail | Incorrect for Electrical; its marks affect final merit |
| Applicant assuming a 60%-marks rule | Not stated as a universal JE minimum in the notification |
| Candidate mailing hard copy after online deadline | May still fail mandatory 9 December receipt cutoff |

Junior Superintendent — IIIT Pune Recruitment 2026
Junior Superintendent — Six seats and 100-mark merit route
The six-seat administrative post is the only position in this notice combining General Aptitude (40 marks) and Domain Knowledge (60 marks). UR 3, OBC-NCL 2 and SC 1 are explicitly identified. An institute may change vacancies by official action; until then no EWS seat is shown. This is Pay Level 06, not a guaranteed ₹ monthly salary.
Degree choice: do not conflate the OR condition
Route A: first-class Bachelor’s degree and six years of relevant full-time experience. Route B: postgraduate degree and four years of relevant full-time experience. Recognised qualifications are compulsory, while experience with establishment matters, finance/accounts, audit, RTI, legal/academic work and Government/CFTI administration is desirable. The first-class equivalence rule permits 60%/6.5 CGPA only where the awarding institution itself does not provide an alternative formula/definition. The postgraduate route is not printed with a separate compulsory first-class percentage.
Administrative role and defensible preparation
A Junior Superintendent supports the internal administrative functioning of a technical Institute, with likely file scrutiny, personnel documentation, RTI processing, budgeting/purchase, audit trail, student/academic support and digital records as relevant to section allocation. The PDF lists those as desirable domains; this does not make every such task a separately promised assignment. Practical job readiness includes drafting short office orders with proper signatory and reference, tracking receipt/dispatch, verifying a GeM procurement documentation chain, creating Excel summaries and respecting official document retention. These are preparation examples, not a new selection test not in the official annexure.
Examination exactly as notified
Written 100 marks/90 minutes with ¼ negative marking. Quantitative aptitude/reasoning, English/comprehension, GK and basic computers = 40. Administration/Constitution, service rules, GFR/GeM, RTI, pension, NEP/technical education, e-office/IT = 60. The published Stage-I eligibility cutoff for JoPT is 50% GEN/OBC/EWS, 45% SC/ST. The 50-mark 60-minute JoPT requires >=50% but scores are not counted: writing/formatting Office documents, Excel data, presentation basics, drafting and data entry. Merit: Stage-I written score out of 100 after passing JoPT; no exam date is given.
Proof/administrative risk
The Institute only tests eligibility on the completed received hardcopy. Print every application page, sign and number it, place receipt after Annexure-IV index, demonstrate all experience with official employer letters, maintain age and reserved-category certificates and carry the originals to examination. A single experience stint under six months does not count. Online closes 28 Nov 23:59; paper reaches Pune 9 Dec by 17:30. An E-Samarth number lost after final submission is a serious identification risk.
Appointment
One-year probation followed by institute-rule regularisation on satisfactory performance, subject to final merit, authenticity and antecedent checks. The salary is Not specified as a rupee amount; the advertisement states Pay Level 06. Practical fails disqualify regardless of a high written score. Do not equate appearing in the Stage-I shortlist with a final appointment.

Focused career dossier: what exactly is this post?
The six Junior Superintendent seats are administrative Group B, Pay Level 06, not a civil/electrical engineering role. The notified roster is UR 3 / OBC-NCL 2 / SC 1. The position is about reliable administrative processes in a national technical institute: creating and tracing files, processing establishment matters, maintaining records, responding to rules-based information needs, supporting finance/procurement and ensuring communication is accurate. The list below explains reasonable preparation areas from the notice's experience/desirable domains and syllabus; it does not create a new legally binding job description.
Essential qualifications: two alternative gateways
Gateway A: a first-class recognised bachelor's degree with at least six years' relevant full-time experience. Gateway B: a recognised postgraduate degree with at least four years' relevant full-time experience. These pathways must not be interpreted as bachelor + postgraduate + six years or as a universal requirement of six years for PG candidates. The exact first-class recognition/conversion provision must be applied to the bachelor's route rather than assuming a universal marks threshold on every PG applicant. The recruiting institute ultimately decides equivalence and relevance.
A first-class bachelor's candidate with only 5 years 11 months of admissible relevant service would not automatically become eligible merely because the total is close to six years; examine actual service dates. A postgraduate candidate with four years of lab research but no demonstrable administrative relevance should not presume the research time necessarily qualifies for this administrative vacancy. A course degree is not equivalent to the relevant workplace time. These are illustrative risk checks, not applicant-specific determinations.
What a strong experience certificate actually proves
For each full-time appointment, ask the employer for its official signed letter showing designation, full period including joining/relieving dates, pay or pay level and nature of duties. Prepare a small project-duty mapping: e.g., academic admissions/records; establishment and leave; store and purchase; government accounts; e-Office/ERP data. If the employer provides a generic experience certificate, seek a signed supplementary duty certificate when permitted. A claim to know GFR 2017 or office procedure without a documented position is not a substitute for qualifying experience. Single work spells shorter than the specified six-month threshold are not countable under the notice.
The Junior Superintendent examination: why the 100/50 split matters
Stage-I: 100 objective marks in 90 minutes, comprising 40 General Aptitude and 60 Domain Knowledge. Every wrong MCQ incurs a one-quarter mark penalty under the advertisement's negative-marking rule. There is no announced exact total question count. Stage-II: Job-Oriented Practical Test, 50 marks in 60 minutes, minimum 25 marks to pass. Crucially, only Stage-I written marks are used for final merit, and candidates must also qualify in JoPT. For progression from Stage-I, the advertised percentage is 50% for GEN/OBC/EWS and 45% for SC/ST; this is not a published final selection cutoff.
Domain study map — the actual role-specific topics
Indian government and institutional governance: constitutional structure, Parliament and government business; rule-making and competent authority; official correspondence; ministries and centrally funded autonomous institutions. Focus on the distinction between a legal power, an administrative approval, and a file note recommending action.
Office Procedure and dispatch: note-sheet versus draft letter, file-opening and classification, diary numbering and tracking, document retention/weeding, official-language processes, service registers and office communications. Practise preparing a short background, facts, rule position and proposed approval separately.
Personnel establishment: recruitment and reservation, Central Government roster logic, Fundamental and Supplementary Rules, CCS leave and conduct/disciplinary rules, basic deputation/lien, pay fixation, TA/LTC and medical benefits, pensions, NPS and GPF. A sound answer should distinguish an employee entitlement from a mere request.
Finance and procurement: general principles of GFR 2017, procurement procedures, GeM and CPPP, expenditure documentation, approval trails, purchase files, vendor bills and audit queries. The syllabus mentions these frameworks, but does not publish an exact percent of questions from each statute.
Higher education and law: RTI, RTE, GST, Income Tax, POSH, arbitration, institutional legal work, NEP 2020, evaluation/ranking frameworks, sustainable development goals and information systems such as Samarth/e-Office. Prepare how these intersect with administering a technical institute, rather than attempting to memorise unrelated court case law.
General aptitude (40 marks): quantitative reasoning, logical/general intelligence, English/comprehension, basic computing and general awareness. Build separate practice sets for speed and accuracy; guessing without adequate confidence loses marks because of negative marking.
Job-Oriented Practical Test — a concrete readiness plan
For MS Word, practise a properly headed official letter with subject, references, consistent formatting and table. For MS Excel, practise cleaning a fictional attendance/fee/stock register, sorting, filtering, elementary formulas and an auditable summary. For PowerPoint, prepare a brief factual presentation from a table; distinguish source data from interpretation. For drafting, condense a hypothetical administrative problem into facts, applicable rule, clear options and a precise proposed action. These are editorial practice exercises, not claims that the Institute has released a precise JoPT task list or supplied test files.
Scoring worked example (illustration, not a predicted cutoff)
Applicant A receives 76/100 written and 30/50 JoPT: the candidate passes JoPT and the merit score remains 76, not 106. Applicant B receives 81/100 written but only 23/50 JoPT: a higher written score does not excuse failing the 25/50 practical qualification. Actual selection depends on institute shortlisting, vacancy category and official final merit. Do not publish these example figures as actual results.
Preparation sequence matched to the process
Before application: choose the bachelor's/six-year or postgraduate/four-year route, reconcile educational proof and years of service and read the correct vacancy number. Before 28 November 2026, 11:59 PM: complete E-Samarth application and fee. Before 9 December, 5:30 PM: ensure the signed self-attested, indexed, Form Number-labelled physical file reaches the Registrar. During scrutiny: watch for the three working day document requests or provisional-list representations. After admit-card issue: follow the actual test venue and instructions; the notification does not announce an exam date. Later stages are written test, qualifying JoPT, written-based ranking, verification, appointment and one-year probation.
Five situations that specifically hurt Junior Superintendent applicants
- Mistaking a desirable experience area for a compulsory degree or inventing a new specialisation restriction.
- Treating part-time teaching, an internship or a short appointment as automatically admissible full-time administration service.
- Demanding 60% marks on the PG alternative when that is not a standalone published PG threshold.
- Treating the practical test as an extra 50 merit marks or using the JE formula 50+50.
- Omitting office-work details from certificates, then assuming the applicant's high written score will override deficient eligibility.
What remains unannounced: specific exam date, admit-card availability date, answer-key schedule, final marks/cutoff, result date, offer issue and joining date. Do not create public lifecycle notices for them yet.
Administrative support in an Institute of National Importance: rules-based file and office procedure, establishment and personnel record processing, academic/administrative documentation, purchase/accounts coordination, official drafting and e-office data integrity. This is role-oriented preparation guidance from the advertised syllabus/desirable domain, not a separately guaranteed duty roster.
- Prepare complete verifiable educational + experience evidence for one of the two degree/experience routes.
- Handle official file processing, notes, correspondence and confidential records in assigned section.
- Maintain lawful procurement/RTI/academic support records under Institute rules.
- Pass Stage-I written cutoff and qualifying 50-mark/60-minute JoPT; merit based on Stage-I written marks.
- Advertisement IIITP/NT/Rectt./2026/1; 6 vacancy(ies). Reservation UR 3, OBC-NCL 2, SC 1.

Full eligibility is conditional on admissible full-time work, appropriate proof and IIIT Pune screening; see the detailed post profile for route-specific interpretation.
Required: Yes · Description: Alternative degree+2 years or Diploma+5 years, in relevant Civil Engineering practice. Specific desirable domains: Civil construction and maintenance; BOQ, costing, surveying, building materials, STP, drainage, quality control, CPWD/PWD works and campus infrastructure. Only full-time experience counts; a single employer spell below six months ignored. Employer certificates must show designation, pay/pay-level, dates and competent authority signature.
Description: All 3 show upper age 32. SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen per applicable GoI norms; eligible regular public-sector staff up to five years with 3 continuous years in same/allied cadre; IIIT Pune equivalent-post contract/outsourced staff continuous-service concession max ten years. No unsupported exact cutoff date.
Junior Engineer (Civil) — IIIT Pune Recruitment 2026
Junior Engineer (Civil) — One UR seat; actual civil-domain test
This is a single unreserved Group-B Level-06 technical post. Degree in relevant Engineering + two full-time years of work experience OR Engineering Diploma + five full-time years is mandatory. The notice does not require both a degree and a diploma; it also does not let a diploma candidate use the two-year degree-route experience figure.
Discipline and demonstrated experience
The original PDF specifically cites Civil Engineering works, construction and maintenance, estimating and costing, BOQ/quantity surveying, site supervision, infrastructure projects, water/sanitation/STP, drainage, working drawings, contracts, quality control and CPWD/PWD specifications. Horticulture, basic plumbing/carpentry and campus maintenance also appear among the desirable experiences. A Civil applicant should map each project to its actual role, time period, employer signature and pay, rather than describing unrelated job time as Civil experience. Only full-time work qualifies; single spans shorter than six months are excluded.
Selection: one exam plus practical, both add to merit
Stage-I: 50-mark, 60-minute Civil engineering objective paper with ¼ negative mark for each incorrect answer. Key original-annexure areas: materials, concrete, building construction and NBC, green design, estimating/valuation, civil contracts, surveying and total stations, geotechnical, highways, water/drainage, structures/RCC and GFR for Works. Stage-II: 50-mark, 60-minute Job-Oriented Practical Test in estimating/measurement/costing, surveying, material testing and contracts. Final merit out of 100 = Written 50 + JoPT 50. The Junior Superintendent's 50%/45% Stage-I cutoff should not be transplanted to this Civil advertisement; Civil shortlisting follows the Institute's decision, ordinarily not more than eight for this single advertised seat.
Evidence and practical readiness
Gather complete education certificate and semester marks, relevant full-time work certificates on official letterhead, title/designation/pay and, if applicable, NOC/vigilance clearance. A useful preparation exercise is converting a building plan into a quantity take-off and BOQ; another is recording material quality-control observations with transparent measurement units. These are professional study suggestions only, not a set of guaranteed practical examination questions.
Delivery and lifecycle
Apply through the official non-teaching E-Samarth until 28 November 2026 at 23:59; send the signed, indexed and self-attested set to Registrar, IIIT Pune, PO-Talegaon for receipt by 9 December 2026 at 17:30. Shortlisting → admit-card (normally 21 days before actual exam) → written Civil test → assessed practical → combined-merit list → original DV/antecedent check → offer → one-year extendable probation → conditional regularisation. Test dates, published answer keys, final cutoffs, joining dates and numeric rupee salary are all Not specified.

Vacancy identity and Civil-only eligibility
Advertisement IIITP/NT/Rectt./2026/2 is a single Unreserved Junior Engineer (Civil) opening, Group B, 7th CPC Pay Level 06, at IIIT Pune's campus. It is separate from both Junior Superintendent (six administrative seats) and Junior Engineer (Electrical) (one seat). Eligibility is a recognised relevant Civil Engineering Degree with at least two years of relevant full-time experience OR a relevant Civil Engineering Diploma with at least five years. A candidate may use the genuine matching route; the Diploma route cannot be shortened by quoting the engineering-degree route's two years. No universal first-class/60%-marks condition is printed for this JE entry.
Civil work experience should show precisely what civil engineering service the candidate rendered—building works, drawings, estimates, site supervision, contract measurements, quality/testing, repair, water/drainage services and maintenance as relevant—with signed duty evidence, not just a self-written claim. The notice addresses admissibility of experience; do not count part-time work or a too-short individual full-time spell without the institute's rule permitting it.
Civil work: what each domain means for selection and the eventual role
Civil estimates: a quantity take-off translates drawings and site dimensions into a measurable work item. Useful preparation is to distinguish a bill of quantities (BOQ) from a rate analysis and a completed measurement book, understand unit conventions, and be able to explain how approved rates and specifications support payment.
Concrete and materials: read the purpose of cement/aggregate properties, water-cement ratio, workability, curing and quality control. Recognise why one cannot infer concrete strength solely from visual appearance. For a practical report, record the sample, method, units, observations and test result without asserting an unsupported compliance judgment.
Campus maintenance: maintenance requests may involve roofs, masonry cracks, sanitary installations, drains, waterproofing or internal circulation. The skill is to examine defects, prioritise safety and produce a record that links observation, estimate, approval, execution and completion, rather than to assume every task is new construction.
Site supervision and safety: measurement after work, correct specification, supervision notes, site quality and contractor records help distinguish planned work from executed work. Candidates should be able to interpret a simple drawing and explain the chain of documentation used in basic engineering administration.
Surveying and geotechnics: levelling and contours underpin quantities; soil classification and foundation behaviour influence safe design. Prepare interpretation and calculations, but do not claim that IIIT Pune has released a particular levelling instrument or site experiment for the test.
Stage-I Civil written paper — 50 domain marks / 60 minutes
The objective Civil domain paper, not a Junior Superintendent-type 40-mark general-aptitude section, covers the domains listed in official Annexure-II:
- Building materials: cement, aggregate, timber, bitumen, paints and their applications/tests.
- Concrete technology: mix constituents, water-cement ratio, fresh/hardened properties, curing, quality control and maintenance.
- Building construction: foundation/plinth, walls, floors, roofs, damp-proofing, green-building considerations.
- Estimating/costing and valuation: schedules of rates, quantities, deductions, measurement, valuation and depreciation.
- Contract basics: tender conditions, contract performance, claims, disputes and arbitration/ADR.
- Surveying: chain, compass, levelling, theodolite, total station, contours, mapping and volume.
- Soil/foundations: classification, compaction, site investigation, bearing capacity and types of foundations.
- Transportation: road materials, geometric basics, pavement layers, rigid/flexible pavement work.
- Environmental engineering: water treatment/distribution, wastewater, sanitation and waste systems.
- Structural and RCC: beam actions, bending/shear, slabs, columns, loads and reinforcement basics.
- GFR works framework: basic financial and procedural governance of works.
These are syllabus domains, not a fabricated subject-wise question-allocation table. Wrong answers attract the common ¼-mark penalty per wrong response; no exact question count or Civil-specific minimum Stage-I percentage is supplied. Do not apply the Junior Superintendent 50/45 rule to Civil without a separate official provision.
Stage-II Civil JoPT — 50 marks / 60 minutes, INCLUDED in merit
The Civil practical specifically includes estimation, measurement of quantities/costing, surveying, testing of building materials (cement, concrete, bricks, aggregates) and contracts. A useful self-test is to take a fictional room plan, generate an item-wise quantity sheet, identify exclusions and arrive at a transparent cost; or to take a hypothetical levelling book, detect a data-entry error and reconcile the level computations. These are suggested exercises, not official questions.
Different from JS: the Civil practical is not merely a pass/fail addition. 50 written + 50 JoPT = final merit out of 100. Example (practice only): 35/50 written plus 42/50 JoPT = 77/100; 40/50 written plus 29/50 JoPT = 69/100. No published final selection cutoff or JE threshold is implied by the examples.
Civil assessment risk table
| Candidate situation | Proper interpretation |
|---|---|
| Relevant Civil degree + two qualifying full-time years | Degree experience route; document degree and service |
| Relevant Civil diploma + five qualifying full-time years | Diploma route; five years are essential |
| Civil diploma + two years | Not cured merely by using the degree-route duration |
| Electrical degree and civil office clerk experience | No automatic Civil-degree equivalence; institute decides subject relevance |
| Site construction work without dated certificates | Difficult to substantiate required service; produce official proof |
| Provisional eligibility but missing signed hard copy | Online claim alone does not satisfy receipt requirement |
A realistic checklist for employment documents
For construction/civil jobs, include employer name, site or unit, exact start/end dates, full-time status and designation, followed by the actual civil domain: supervision, estimate preparation, quality, surveying, billing, structural/site or water/sanitation work as applicable. A one-page project-summary index can help a reviewing committee understand a multi-employer history without replacing the official certificates. For self-employed or project-based claims, do not presume automatic acceptance; follow the institute's evidence rules and clarifications.
Civil-specific application to joining lifecycle
