Junior Engineer (Electrical) — Official Annexure-III Syllabus and Exam Lifecycle
Vacancy: 1 unreserved, Group B, Level 06. Eligible alternatives are relevant Engineering Degree + 2 years or Engineering Diploma + 5 years of relevant full-time experience. The Civil engineering alternative does not replace an electrical-specialisation requirement.
Stage-I: Electrical domain MCQ — 50 marks/60 minutes
The notification prescribes ¼ negative marking for each wrong answer; it publishes no exact exam date, number of questions, section-wise minimum or answer-key calendar.
- Circuit basics: resistance, inductance, capacitance, current, voltage, power, energy, effects and units.
- Electrical measurement: active/reactive single/three-phase power, two-wattmeter method, frequency/phase angle, volt/amp meters, multimeters, Megger, energy meters, AC bridges, CRO, CT/PT and earth fault.
- DC machines: construction, DC motor/generator characteristics, starting, speed control, braking, loss/efficiency.
- Transformers: single- and three-phase principle, equivalent circuits, losses, open/short-circuit tests, regulation, harmonics, parallel operation and autotransformers.
- Generation/T&D: stations, load/diversity/demand factor, tariff, reactive power and power factor, conductors/cable ratings.
- Switchgear/protection: breaker rating, HRC fuses, leakage and overcurrent, Buchholz, feeder/bus protection, surge/lightning arresters.
- Estimates/safety: lighting and installation estimates, earthing and applicable electrical/IE regulations.
- Contracts: construction contract fundamentals, risk clauses and disputes/ADR.
- Electric energy uses: lighting, electrical heating, welding, electroplating, motor drives.
- HVAC: DX, chilled water, AHUs/FCUs/FAHUs, unitary, packaged and VRV systems.
- Waste and procurement: solid and electronic waste, GFR Works.
Stage-II: 50-mark Job-Oriented Trade Test /60 minutes
Actual subjects: transformers; switchgear; HT/LT cables; commercial/domestic internal wiring; UPS and DG set selection/kVA rating; contracts. This is an assessed practical, NOT just a qualifying hurdle. Final merit = 50 written + 50 practical, both count. Up to eight per advertised seat may be shortlisted as decided by the Institute.
Stage-wise status and preparation
Complete the two-part application with the exact Form No.; supply self-attested full-page hardcopy and verifiable experience records. Provisional eligibility objections have three working days; admit-card lead time is ordinarily 21 days before an unannounced exam. Check the portal for the actual venue/shift and report with originals. The Institute will later publish the final list and can check records/antecedents before/after appointment. There is one-year probation and later conditional regularisation, not fixed-term contractual engagement. Real answer-key date, final cutoff, result date, and reporting date are not yet specified.
