IndianOil Barauni Refinery Apprentice Recruitment 2026–27 (II): 272 Trade & Technician Training Seats
Indian Oil Corporation Limited (Barauni Refinery), Begusarai, Bihar · Advertisement BR/HR/APPR/2026-27/II · Issued 6 November 2026
IndianOil has invited online applications for 272 provisional apprenticeship training seats in four precisely identified disciplines at its Barauni Refinery. There are 228 Trade Apprentice places for suitably qualified three-year B.Sc. applicants and 44 Technician Apprentice places for candidates holding the specified engineering diplomas. This is a refinery-specific second recruitment notification for 2026–27: it is not the IndianOil Pipelines Division 500-seat campaign, and it is not Barauni Refinery’s earlier 2026–27 (I) cycle.
Nature of opportunity: apprenticeship training governed by the Apprentices Acts and Rules, not appointment to a regular permanent IndianOil post. The corporation does not promise absorption or employment when training ends. No written recruitment examination or interview is notified. Academic qualification marks determine merit, with eligibility screening, original-document verification and medical fitness required before engagement.
🗓️ The actual calendar: both application stages must be finished
| Official event | Date / position |
|---|---|
| Barauni Refinery advertisement issued | 6 November 2026 |
| NAPS/NATS applications and separate Microsoft Form open | 6 November 2026 |
| Last date for both mandatory online steps | 6 December 2026 (closing clock time not specified) |
| Age, education and other eligibility measured on | 30 November 2026, not 6 December |
| Tentative list of candidates called for document verification | 11 December 2026 (tentative, not yet released) |
| Tentative document-verification period | 14–18 December 2026, subject to change |
| Written exam / interview date | No written test or interview under this notice |
| Stipend | Governed by applicable Apprentices Act/Rules and IndianOil guidelines; **monthly rupee amount Not specified |
Two dates must not be confused. Candidates may submit the forms until 6 December, but the prescribed qualification, age and conditions are evaluated against 30 November 2026. A candidate awaiting a final B.Sc./Diploma result at the date of reckoning cannot rely on the extra six days of the application window to qualify. There is no official 23:59 or 17:00 deadline printed for 6 December; submit sufficiently early rather than assuming an unannounced cutoff time.
🏭 The four actual apprenticeships, not four interchangeable openings
| Code | Notified apprenticeship discipline | Training places | Training period | Essential route | First online portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 101 | Trade Apprentice – Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant), Chemical | 190 | 12 months | Three-year regular B.Sc. in notified Maths–Physics–Chemistry / Industrial Chemistry route | NAPS |
| 103 | Trade Apprentice (Boiler), Mechanical | 38 | 24 months | Same specifically notified three-year B.Sc. route | NAPS |
| 105 | Technician Apprentice, Mechanical | 21 | 12 months | Three-year regular Mechanical Engineering Diploma | NATS |
| 107 | Technician Apprentice, Instrumentation | 23 | 12 months | Three-year regular diploma in the four notified Instrumentation variants | NATS |
| Total | 272 |
The Boiler programme is the only 24-month training path. Codes 101 and 103 cannot be treated as two simultaneous application choices even if a candidate meets the common B.Sc. eligibility: the notification permits one trade/discipline only. Code 107 likewise does not admit every electronics diploma merely because its name includes the word electronics; the exact branch named in the advertisement controls eligibility.
📊 Official seats by apprentice trade
| Notified trade and code | Seats |
|---|---|
| 101 — Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant) | 190 |
| 103 — Boiler | 38 |
| 105 — Mechanical Diploma | 21 |
| 107 — Instrumentation Diploma | 23 |
How the 272 seats are reserved
| Trade code | Total | UR | EWS | SC | ST | OBC-NCL | PwBD horizontal (included, not added) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 101 | 190 | 88 | 19 | 30 | 2 | 51 | 0 |
| 103 | 38 | 17 | 4 | 6 | 1 | 10 | 0 |
| 105 | 21 | 10 | 2 | 3 | 0 | 6 | 5 |
| 107 | 23 | 11 | 2 | 4 | 0 | 6 | 5 |
| Total | 272 | 126 | 27 | 43 | 3 | 73 | 10 horizontal |
PwBD is horizontal: the five identified places under code 105 and five under code 107 are already included within the corresponding trade totals. They must not be added to 272. The notice specifies no PwBD-identified seats for codes 101 and 103 because the engagement concerns potentially hazardous refinery operations and maintenance. Applicants seeking identified PwBD reservations must review trade suitability, certification and medical requirements carefully; a general statement that all trades are accessible under identical conditions would be misleading.
Seats are tentative. IndianOil reserves the ability to change counts subject to actual requirement and applicable reservation directives. SC/ST/OBC/EWS unfilled-seat adjustments are governed by the specific sequence in the notice; the table represents advertised seats, not a forecast of eventual allocations.
🥧 Vertical reservation share of 272 training places
| Vertical category | Seats |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (UR) | 126 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 73 |
| Scheduled Castes (SC) | 43 |
| Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) | 27 |
| Scheduled Tribes (ST) | 3 |
🎓 Discipline-wise education: which qualification is actually accepted?
Codes 101 & 103 — the science-graduate routes
Both Trade Apprentice routes require a three-year regular full-time B.Sc. with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry as specifically stated in the notice. The published discipline name for code 101 is Chemical (Attendant Operator–Chemical Plant), whereas the Boiler trade at code 103 is recorded under Mechanical even though it still requires the same notified B.Sc. background. A mechanical engineering diploma does not replace the stipulated B.Sc. for Boiler just because the discipline column says Mechanical. Equally, candidates should not treat every three-year B.Sc. (Botany, Zoology, Computer Science, etc.) as eligible.
A science graduate who could qualify for both codes must choose only one. IndianOil says multiple trade/discipline applications will be summarily rejected. The separate seat totals and 12-versus-24-month training periods should guide that choice; neither route automatically leads to permanent refinery employment.
Code 105 — Mechanical Technician Apprentice
The eligible route is a three-year regular full-time Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. An eligible candidate who entered a recognized diploma through lateral entry in its second year after Class XII (Science) or ITI may be considered where the applicable marks rule is satisfied; diploma aggregate is measured across the actual semesters of the course. This concession is for the recognized lateral-entry diploma, not for an unrelated diploma branch or part-time course.
Code 107 — Instrumentation Technician Apprentice
The four expressly covered diploma branches are Instrumentation Engineering; Instrumentation & Electronics; Instrumentation & Control Engineering; and Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. The applicant should compare the certificate’s actual branch with those names before choosing code 107. Merely holding a degree/diploma in generic Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical or another adjacent field does not establish equivalence; the notification says unlisted branches or broadly claimed equivalent qualifications are not accepted. Recognized lateral-entry diploma holders remain eligible under the notified conditions.
Marks and study mode: same threshold, different trade qualification
- Candidates must have completed the specified regular full-time qualifying course by 30 November 2026; results pending at the cutoff do not satisfy eligibility.
- The normal aggregate threshold is 50%; 45% applies only to eligible SC/ST and PwBD candidates against seats reserved for their categories. The lower standard is not an unrestricted entitlement for someone competing on an unreserved standard.
- Aggregate marks cover the prescribed qualifying course. For CGPA/OGPA/letter grades, the percentage must follow the awarding university/institution’s rule, with a supporting conversion certificate at document verification.
- Part-time, correspondence and distance-mode qualifications do not meet this Barauni notification. Do not borrow the different degree-mode policy of an unrelated PSU advertisement.
- IndianOil excludes holders of higher professional qualifications including B.E./B.Tech, MBA, CA, LLB and MCA, as well as candidates completing such higher professional qualifications by apprenticeship joining, as described in the original notice. Being academically overqualified does not automatically improve eligibility.
- If the mark sheet does not show the date on which the final result was announced, a certificate from the institution’s Principal confirming that date is required for verification. The notice additionally calls for proof of regular full-time study and good conduct from the relevant institution where applicable.
⚠️ Less obvious disqualifications and the second-apprenticeship rules
A qualification five years old: the notice excludes applicants who have completed five years since obtaining their prescribed qualification as on 30 November 2026. This is a separate eligibility condition from age 18–24; meeting the age band does not cancel it.
A year or more of post-qualification job experience: the source specifically describes this exclusion for Engineering Graduate, Diploma or Vocational Certificate holders after obtaining the qualification. This is particularly material for Mechanical and Instrumentation Diploma applicants. It should not be silently rewritten as an identically worded universal condition on every B.Sc. candidate when the published clause names particular qualification groups.
Prior apprenticeship is not always a blanket ban. The notice allows applications for training in a different trade/discipline, subject to conditions. A person who completed a previous apprenticeship ordinarily needs at least a one-year gap by the eligibility cutoff. Where a prior contract was terminated through employer failure, no gap is required. For candidate-initiated termination because of health, financial hardship, relocation, transport, career change or language barrier, a three-month gap is generally required, with no such waiting period for women in that case. Prior contract termination for the apprentice’s failure to carry out contract terms makes the person ineligible. The candidate must disclose the circumstances honestly and provide the prescribed Annexure-A affidavit when required.
IndianOil also says first-time apprentices receive preference. This does not mean that every applicant with a previous eligible training period is automatically rejected, and it is not a separately quantified bonus in the merit calculation.
Only one trade and one Microsoft Form response. Code 101 or 103 cannot be submitted together. Duplicate trade applications are liable to rejection, and inconsistent enrolment IDs between the apprenticeship portal and the second form can invalidate candidature. The institution’s proof, actual course title, result date and aggregate percentage matter more than simply possessing a registration number.
🎂 Age on 30 November 2026 and concessions
| Category / condition | Upper-age position specified in the notice |
|---|---|
| General / EWS base age | 18–24 years on 30 November 2026 |
| Eligible SC or ST against reserved seats | Up to 5 years upper-age relaxation |
| Eligible OBC Non-Creamy Layer against reserved seats | Up to 3 years upper-age relaxation |
| Eligible PwBD | Up to 10 years upper-age relaxation as notified |
| Eligible PwBD with SC/ST reserved entitlement | Additional 5 years where conditions are met |
| Eligible PwBD with OBC-NCL reserved entitlement | Additional 3 years where conditions are met |
The Class X Board marksheet/certificate is the acceptable age-evidence document specified for this recruitment. For an OBC-NCL benefit, the required central-format non-creamy-layer status must be valid as of 30 November 2026; creamy-layer candidates cannot claim OBC-NCL relaxation and must compete under applicable UR conditions. EWS applicants must produce the prescribed Income and Asset Certificate or undertaking as the advertisement provides. Category and disability records must be issued by the competent authority and meet the conditions for the particular claim.
Do not infer a specific date-of-birth interval not explicitly printed by IndianOil or combine multiple concessions indiscriminately. The eligibility date and the degree of relaxation are stated; the actual category entitlement and supporting original certificate control the case.
📈 Training duration, portal choice and the meaning of the split
📊 Months of notified training by trade
| Trade code | Training months |
|---|---|
| 101 — Attendant Operator | 12 |
| 103 — Boiler | 24 |
| 105 — Mechanical Technician | 12 |
| 107 — Instrumentation Technician | 12 |
The 24-month Boiler path is not an extra examination stage: it is the training contract duration, compared with one year for the other three codes. Actual training may be extended only in the circumstances permitted under the relevant Apprentices Rules; the notice does not promise an extension or extra pay rate.
🥧 Seats grouped by mandatory first portal
| First portal, by notified trade | Seats |
|---|---|
| NAPS — codes 101 and 103 | 228 |
| NATS — codes 105 and 107 | 44 |
The portal is decided by the code applied for, not the applicant’s preference. After the first portal application, every candidate must also submit Barauni’s separate additional-data form through IndianOil’s official recruitment listing.
✅ Selection: exact method and the conditional tie-break
IndianOil expressly says there is no written test. This is not a CBT/OMR recruitment, and no chapter-wise exam syllabus, exam date, answer key or hypothetical cutoff applies. The sequence is:
- A valid opportunity application for one eligible discipline through the correct apprenticeship portal, followed by the mandatory IndianOil Barauni Microsoft Form.
- Scrutiny of the actual notified qualification, aggregate percentage, cutoff date, age, category, training history, experience exclusions and truthfulness of submissions.
- A trade/discipline-wise merit order by descending aggregate percentage in the prescribed qualifying B.Sc./Diploma. This is not a 50:50 mix of Matric and ITI scores; those are rules from other apprenticeship advertisements, not this one.
- Tie-break: an older candidate is preferred. If the date of birth is also identical, the applicant with higher Matriculation percentage is placed above the other applicant.
- Provisional shortlisting for original-document verification, followed by prescribed pre-engagement medical fitness; an offer is issued only after all applicable conditions are met.
The notice gives a tentative 11 December 2026 date for publishing a list of candidates called to document verification and tentative 14–18 December 2026 verification dates. These are future schedules, not a currently released merit list or result. A selection shortlist does not mean joining is guaranteed; the refinery may leave places unfilled when eligible candidates are unavailable or unsuitable.
📝 How to submit an application correctly: TWO compulsory stages
Stage I — choose the correct apprenticeship portal and actual vacancy
- For Trade Apprentice codes 101 and 103, register and apply at NAPS / Apprenticeship India. Barauni Refinery’s NAPS establishment ID in the official advertisement is
E11191000001. - For Technician Apprentice codes 105 and 107, register and apply at NATS. Barauni Refinery’s NATS establishment ID in the official advertisement is
EBRBEC000003. - Having a general NAPS/NATS profile is not enough: find the Barauni Refinery establishment, confirm that the exact matching trade code and opportunity exists, and actually apply to that opportunity.
- Check name, category, education, aggregate percentage, result date, registration/enrolment number, email and mobile against originals. Fix discrepancies with the appropriate portal before proceeding. One trade/discipline only.
Stage II — complete IndianOil Barauni’s separate Microsoft Form
From the official IndianOil Apprenticeships page open “Engagement of Apprentices at Barauni Refinery – 2026-27 (II)” and then its “Click here to submit additional information on Microsoft forms – Barauni Refinery” action. This second submission is mandatory after the NAPS/NATS opportunity application. The notice instructs applicants to submit only one response in this form.
Use the same email address and mobile number as in the first portal; the NAPS/NATS registration/enrolment/student ID and the identifying particulars must agree between both applications. IndianOil will communicate through its official website, email or SMS, so use an email/mobile account that will remain active for at least one year.
Both Stage I and Stage II must be completed by 6 December 2026. Merely submitting the Microsoft Form, merely creating an apprenticeship profile, or applying for the wrong refinery’s opportunity does not constitute a complete application. Follow the official IOCL page rather than an unofficial direct form link circulated elsewhere.
📁 Original documents and verification: what will be checked
Prepare originals and a self-attested copy of the evidence the notice actually requests:
| Evidence | Why the refinery checks it |
|---|---|
| Class X Board certificate / marksheet | Only notified proof of date of birth; Matric percentage also breaks a merit tie after DOB |
| B.Sc. or Diploma qualification, all semesters/years | Exact permitted branch, regular full-time course, aggregate marks, completion by 30 Nov 2026 |
| CGPA/OGPA/letter-grade conversion certificate, where needed | Confirms the exact equivalent percentage under the institution’s approved rule |
| Principal’s certificate of result-publication date, where mark sheet omits it | Demonstrates result was actually declared by the eligibility cutoff |
| Regular full-time study and conduct confirmation, where required | Distinguishes allowed regular study from part-time/distance/correspondence credentials |
| Correct SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD certificate or declaration, where claimed | Checks reservation, concession and identified disability suitability |
| NAPS/NATS printed registration and actual opportunity application | Confirms that Stage I was properly completed against the Barauni establishment |
| Annexure-A affidavit | Declares first/second apprenticeship training, contract history and waiting period, when relevant |
| Original photo identity | Aadhaar / PAN / voter ID / driving licence / passport, as notified |
| Additional documents requested in official DV call | Candidate-specific evidence must be furnished within the given schedule |
The refinery conducts pre-engagement medical fitness before offering training. A shortlisted applicant can still lose the opportunity if the originals, degree branch, result date, disability category, training history or medical fitness do not satisfy the advertisement.
💰 Stipend and real apprenticeship benefits (not a permanent salary)
The official nine-page notice does not specify an exact monthly rupee stipend figure for any of the four codes. The payable stipend is governed by the Apprentices Acts, the Apprentices Rules, and IndianOil’s applicable guidelines. Therefore an advertisement displaying a definite monthly ₹ amount or a permanent PSU pay scale for these trainees would go beyond the source.
The notice does specify the following conditions: no Company accommodation and no HRA; general leave of 32 days (eight per quarter) during apprenticeship including medical grounds; 12 days of casual leave per calendar year, pro rata; holidays observed by the training establishment; unused leave lapses; suitable accident-insurance coverage. Depending on applicability, a trainee under these codes receives one pair of safety shoes and a helmet, with the helmet returnable at training completion. The actual period is 12 months except code 103, which is 24 months. These are training benefits, not a guarantee of permanent service conditions or employment.
Application fee: the notification does not print an application-fee amount or an explicit universal ₹0 fee declaration. Do not treat that absence as proof of a zero-fee promise. Use the actual instructions displayed by the authorized portal when applying.
🧭 Applicant decisions that matter more than the headline seat count
B.Sc. candidate: compare code 101’s 190 seats and 12 months against code 103’s 38 seats and 24 months. Both specify the same chemistry-related B.Sc. route. Apply to one, not both. Do not apply to a Mechanical Diploma technician opening on the strength of a B.Sc. alone.
Mechanical Diploma candidate: code 105 has 21 notified places, of which five are identified under horizontal PwBD reservation. Those five are part of 21. Check recognized diploma branch and full-time/lateral-entry route, the five-year age of the credential, and any disqualifying year of post-diploma employment.
Instrumentation Diploma candidate: code 107 has 23 places, including five horizontally identified PwBD places, and the accepted branch list is specific. Validate the certificate’s branch name against the actual four names; a general Electronics or other similar programme is not automatically equivalent.
Previous apprentice: read the waiting-period distinctions instead of automatically assuming “one apprenticeship ever” or “unlimited repeat apprenticeship.” The affidavit and first-time preference both matter.
Person claiming a relaxation: age concession, reduced qualification marks and PwBD-reserved seats are three distinct matters. A candidate may qualify for a relaxation without being counted against an identified PwBD seat, subject to the notice’s rules. Keep these distinctions in the category certificate and academic aggregate submitted.
Candidate outside Bihar: this notice describes training at Barauni Refinery, Begusarai, Bihar; it does not prescribe a Bihar-domicile-only condition. Applicants should nonetheless be prepared for refinery work, the notified medical standard and personal accommodation arrangements without promised HRA.

Bottom line: the 272 openings cover exactly four qualification-specific training tracks under one Barauni Refinery advertisement. The selection is by notified qualification marks, subject to eligibility, original-document checks and medical fitness—not an imagined written paper. Before completing forms, match code, exact qualification, deadline, the 30 November cutoff, both required application steps, and the no-permanent-job condition.

Three-year regular full-time B.Sc. with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry as notified. Must be completed by 30-11-2026 from recognized regular full-time course (recognized lateral-entry diploma accepted for 105/107). Min 50% normally, eligible SC/ST/PwBD reserved category 45%. No other unlisted branch, broad equivalence, distance/part-time course, or specified higher professional qualification. One B.Sc. candidate can choose only code 101 or 103, not both.
Required: No · Description: No mandatory work-experience requirement. Past apprenticeship, if any, has specified waiting-period and second-discipline rules.
Description: SC/ST +5 and OBC-NCL +3 for eligible reserved categories. PwBD +10; further +5 for eligible PwBD-SC/ST and +3 for eligible PwBD-OBC-NCL where applicable. Class X Board document controls DOB. No invented DOB interval.
Code 101 — Trade Apprentice, Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant): 190 seats
At IndianOil Barauni Refinery, Chemical discipline. Duration: 12 months. First application: NAPS, then Barauni additional-data form. Code 101 is the largest pool in this notification: 190 of the 272 provisional openings. That does not make every science graduate eligible; the specific three-year, regular full-time Maths–Physics–Chemistry / Industrial Chemistry B.Sc. route remains the controlling criterion.
Original reservation for this exact code
| Category | Notified code-101 places |
|---|---|
| UR | 88 |
| EWS | 19 |
| SC | 30 |
| ST | 2 |
| OBC-NCL | 51 |
| Total | 190 |
PwBD identified seats: zero in code 101. The notice restricts notified PwBD-identified apprentice seats to codes 105 and 107, citing safety risks of refining activities. The vertical seats above are the real code-101 counts and must not be inflated by horizontally reserved places from another code.
The qualification difference from the Boiler trade
A three-year full-time B.Sc. covering the specifically named Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry pathway is required. For code 101 the training title explicitly refers to the Chemical Plant; for code 103 the title is Boiler and training runs 24 months. Both use NAPS, but the same candidate must select one trade. A diploma in Chemical Engineering, however relevant it might appear, does not replace a B.Sc. unless the advertisement expressly lists it—it does not.
The aggregate threshold is 50% in the prescribed qualification or 45% only for an eligible SC/ST/PwBD applicant applying against an applicable reserved place. Regular full-time study is necessary. For this programme, do not confuse the absence of a separate entrance test with absence of eligibility checks: result date, aggregate, study mode and discipline all face document verification.
NAPS application path for Chemical Plant Attendant Operator
Open the IndianOil official apprenticeship listing for Barauni Refinery 2026–27 (II). Under NAPS, confirm IndianOil Barauni establishment E11191000001 and apply to the actual code 101 opportunity. Complete the extra Barauni Microsoft Form through the same IndianOil listing, entering the same email, mobile, enrolment number and academic details. Both submissions must finish by 6 December 2026. A second simultaneous application to code 103 defeats the one-trade rule; the notice requires exactly one discipline.
What controls the merit outcome and verification
For this code, IndianOil ranks candidates by the aggregate of the qualifying three-year B.Sc., not by a fictitious chemical engineering written paper and not by the candidate’s Class X plus degree average. If candidates tie, the older person ranks first; if DOB also matches, the higher Matric percentage breaks the tie. A provisional shortlist is tentatively expected 11 December and document verification 14–18 December 2026, with the exact schedule and shortlist to be confirmed officially. Bring original B.Sc. marks, completion/result date proof and regular-full-time evidence if applicable, DOB certificate, valid category documents, apprenticeship declaration and NAPS registration evidence. The training begins only after eligible documentary and medical clearance.
Conditions during training
Monthly stipend Not specified as a rupee figure; applicable statutory/IndianOil rules govern it. No HRA or company accommodation is promised. Safety shoes and a returnable helmet, where applicable, and the notified leave and accident-insurance protections apply. Twelve months of training does not carry an absorption guarantee or a promise of a regular operator position.
12-month trade/technician apprenticeship training in refinery operations and maintenance environment as specified generally in the notification; the notice does not list separately promised daily task allocations or permanent job duties for code 101.
- Complete both the correct apprenticeship-portal opportunity application and IndianOil Barauni additional-data form accurately.
- Provide original course, date-of-birth, category and apprenticeship-history documents when shortlisted.
- Meet the training contract and refinery medical/safety criteria; acknowledge training does not promise a permanent position.
- Choose only code 101 if your exact certificate satisfies its listed B.Sc./Diploma pathway; do not apply to multiple trade/discipline codes.
- Apply first to the genuine IndianOil Barauni Refinery code 101 opportunity through NAPS (establishment ID E11191000001), not merely create a profile.
- Then complete one Barauni Refinery 2026–27 (II) Microsoft Form response linked through the official IndianOil Apprenticeships listing using the same email/mobile and correct registration ID.
- Complete both application stages by 6 December 2026 (exact closing clock time not published). Academic, age and other eligibility are measured on 30 November 2026.
- This code has 190 seats, including 0 identified horizontal PwBD seats (not additional to total), and a 12-month training duration.
- No written exam or interview; qualifying examination percentage, original certificate verification and pre-engagement medical fitness control selection.
Official Barauni Refinery code 101: UR 88, EWS 19, SC 30, ST 2, OBC-NCL 51 = 190. PwBD 0 is an identified horizontal inclusion, never an additional vacancy. Only codes 105 and 107 identify PwBD slots.

Code 103 — Trade Apprentice (Boiler), Mechanical discipline: 38 seats
Notified training duration: 24 months, unlike the other three codes’ 12 months. This is a Trade Apprentice opening, and the first application must be made in NAPS with the separate IndianOil Barauni form completed afterwards. It is not the Technician Apprentice (Mechanical) diploma path, which is code 105.

No PwBD-identified seats are notified under this Boiler code. The training location is Barauni Refinery, not an unspecified IndianOil depot or pipelines installation. The official table calls the discipline Mechanical, but the essential educational qualification is a three-year regular B.Sc. with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry. That detail is decisive: merely holding a mechanical engineering diploma does not make someone eligible for this code. The mechanical diploma belongs to code 105 and is a separate academic route.
Why the two-year duration matters
A Boiler applicant undertakes a 24-month apprenticeship as the published duration, while code 101’s chemical-plant attendant operator track is 12 months. The notice does not supply a special rupee stipend for the additional twelve months; it refers to the general statutory stipend arrangements and IndianOil guidelines. Nor does a longer period create an employment claim at the end. Candidates choosing between 101 and 103 must weigh the one-trade-only restriction alongside the two different training durations and seat totals.
Why the eligibility deadline and earlier training history matter
A candidate who completed the required B.Sc. must establish that the result was available by 30 November 2026, even though the online form remains available through 6 December. The normal aggregate is 50%, and the 45% concession for eligible SC/ST/PwBD applicants applies only against the reserved-seat conditions that actually exist; code 103 has no notified identified PwBD seats. The original notice also excludes candidates whose prescribed qualification has already completed five years on the reference date and those holding specified higher professional qualifications. These are separate hurdles from age or the relative number of seats.
An applicant who previously trained as an apprentice must disclose the earlier trade and contract status and check the stated minimum gap, if any. First-time trainees receive preference, but an eligible earlier apprentice in a different discipline is not automatically excluded merely because of past participation. Bring the prescribed Annexure-A declaration and supporting records if shortlisted. Document verification and fitness remain prerequisites, so there is no guarantee of entry from academic marks alone.
NAPS plus the second mandatory Barauni form
Use NAPS establishment E11191000001, find the actual Boiler Trade Apprentice code 103 opening, and apply to that opportunity. It is insufficient to create an NAPS profile and stop there. Open the Microsoft Form from the Barauni Refinery 2026–27 (II) entry on IndianOil’s own Apprenticeships page and submit one matching response by 6 December 2026. Retain the enrolment number, email and phone used in both places. Do not submit code 101 as a backup application: the original note says one trade only.
Selection and documentary evidence
The qualifying three-year B.Sc.’s aggregate percentage ranks candidates; no boiler technical CBT or interview is announced. If percentages tie, age and then Matric marks determine the order. A provisional DV list is planned for 11 December, with tentative checks from 14–18 December. Be ready to demonstrate B.Sc. subjects, exact aggregate, declaration of result by the 30 November reckoning date, grade-to-percentage conversion, regular full-time instruction and age/category eligibility through originals. The medical standard is significant because refinery operations and maintenance have hazardous conditions.
Stipend and non-employment warning
The notice does not state a rupee stipend for code 103: Not specified, governed by prevailing rules. No company accommodation or HRA is offered. Holiday/leave and safety measures are subject to the notified apprenticeship terms, and training may be extended only under applicable rules. Completing the two-year Boiler apprenticeship does not guarantee IndianOil appointment.
24-month trade/technician apprenticeship training in refinery operations and maintenance environment as specified generally in the notification; the notice does not list separately promised daily task allocations or permanent job duties for code 103.
- Choose only code 103 if your exact certificate satisfies its listed B.Sc./Diploma pathway; do not apply to multiple trade/discipline codes.
- Apply first to the genuine IndianOil Barauni Refinery code 103 opportunity through NAPS (establishment ID E11191000001), not merely create a profile.
- This code has 38 seats, including 0 identified horizontal PwBD seats (not additional to total), and a 24-month training duration.
- No written exam or interview; qualifying examination percentage, original certificate verification and pre-engagement medical fitness control selection.
Official Barauni Refinery code 103: UR 17, EWS 4, SC 6, ST 1, OBC-NCL 10 = 38. PwBD 0 is an identified horizontal inclusion, never an additional vacancy. Only codes 105 and 107 identify PwBD slots.

Code 105 — Technician Apprentice, Mechanical Engineering: 21 seats
A mechanical engineering diploma-specific training opportunity; 12 months at IndianOil Barauni Refinery. The required first application is on NATS, not the trade-apprenticeship NAPS route used by codes 101 and 103. After NATS registration and applying against the actual refinery opportunity, the separate Barauni Microsoft Form is mandatory.
Mechanical Technician reservation — 21 positions in total
| Vertical category | Seats |
|---|---|
| UR | 10 |
| EWS | 2 |
| SC | 3 |
| ST | 0 |
| OBC-NCL | 6 |
| Total | 21 |
Of these 21, five are identified PwBD horizontal positions. This means the figure is 21, not 26. A PwBD claim must match one of the disability categories identified in the notification, supported by a competent-authority certificate, and the candidate must satisfy the pre-engagement refinery medical standard.
Accepted diploma route, and what is not enough
The essential course is a three-year regular full-time Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. A diploma admitted through a properly recognized lateral-entry second-year route after relevant Class XII (Science) or ITI is accepted subject to the course and aggregate-marks rules. The candidate should bring the consolidated qualifying record for all semesters actually undertaken. A B.Sc. in Physics or a B.E./B.Tech is not a free substitute for this prescribed technician-apprentice diploma; the notice also excludes specified higher professional qualifications.
The regular academic aggregate is 50%, relaxed to 45% only for eligible SC/ST/PwBD candidates against their relevant reserved seats. The qualification must have been obtained by 30 November 2026, and the rules barring candidates whose required qualification is five years old are particularly important. The advertisement also expressly excludes a diploma holder with a year or more of job experience after acquiring the qualification. Applicants should evaluate both restrictions separately rather than assuming strong experience improves merit.
Before applying: three Mechanical-specific checks
First: verify your certificate actually says Mechanical Engineering, with qualifying full-time/lateral-entry diploma status and a valid percentage/CGPA conversion. Second: the qualifying diploma must have been completed by 30 November 2026, must not have become five years old under the notice’s rule, and—specifically for diploma holders—post-qualification employment of at least one year is an exclusion. Third: if seeking one of the five identified PwBD horizontal places, confirm that the disability category and competent certificate are suitable under IndianOil’s published refinery requirements. A PwBD candidate applying on an unreserved standard should understand the distinct rules about age and academic-mark concession.
NATS registration and final IndianOil submission
Log in to NATS, choose the actual Barauni Refinery technician opportunity under EBRBEC000003, and apply for code 105. Once successfully applied, submit the additional Barauni Refinery Microsoft Form from the official IndianOil page using the same enrolment ID, registered email and mobile number. Both steps are necessary by 6 December. Do not change the branch or study-mode information merely to match an attractive vacancy.
Merit, documents and offer
IndianOil uses the actual Mechanical diploma aggregate in descending order. There is no recruitment written examination or interview. If percentages tie, older age and then higher Matric percentage resolve the rank. For verification, bring Class X age proof, all diploma term marks, course completion/result publication evidence, regular full-time certificate if sought, conversion certificate, NATS registration and the correct category/PwBD documents, plus Annexure-A where applicable. A provisional list and DV schedule are tentative until officially issued. Refinery medical fitness is a prerequisite for any offer.
The prescribed 12-month apprenticeship has a monthly stipend fixed by the applicable rules, but the exact amount is Not specified in the notification. There is no HRA, accommodation or right to a permanent Mechanical Technician job after completion.

Code 107 — Technician Apprentice, Instrumentation: 23 seats
This is a 12-month NATS-based apprenticeship at Barauni Refinery for selected engineering diploma branches in Instrumentation. The notification provides 23 places, of which five are specifically identified as PwBD horizontal positions. IndianOil’s requirements for applying, verifying a valid NATS enrolment and submitting the separate Microsoft Form apply in full.

The five PwBD horizontal positions are within those 23, not extra places. PwBD eligibility turns on the indicated suitable disability types and the required certificate and medical checks. There is no general entitlement to import a vacancy reserved in Mechanical Technician code 105 into the Instrumentation code.
Four diploma titles — check the certificate exactly
- Instrumentation Engineering
- Instrumentation & Electronics
- Instrumentation & Control Engineering
- Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering
The applicant needs a regular full-time three-year diploma in one of these branches, or a recognized qualifying lateral-entry diploma subject to the notified conditions. The general 50% aggregate applies, with a qualified 45% SC/ST/PwBD concession only against eligible reserved places. Candidates should not assume that a diploma titled only Electronics, Electrical, or Electronic Communication is accepted just because instrumentation equipment may use those technologies. The official advertisement expressly rejects a broad, unnotified equivalence claim.
One more decisive filter: the diploma result must exist by 30 November 2026; passing the course afterwards is insufficient for this cycle. A year or more of professional work after diploma attainment and five years elapsed since acquiring the qualification are separate grounds to check under IndianOil’s stated exclusions. With no written entrance exam, the true competitive input is the official aggregate percentage of the qualifying Instrumentation diploma.
Most common qualification confusion for code 107
The label Instrumentation is not an invitation to any electronics-related qualification. IndianOil prints exactly four degree-of-relatedness choices in the Diploma field: Instrumentation Engineering, Instrumentation & Electronics, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, and Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. The core credential is the three-year regular full-time diploma, with the specifically accepted recognized lateral-entry route. The general aggregate threshold is 50%, relaxed to 45% only where the reserved-seat SC/ST/PwBD provision actually applies. Any different branch described as “equivalent” is expressly not a safe basis for claiming eligibility.
Check exclusion rules separately: relevant diploma finished by 30 November 2026; no five-year-old qualification under the notice; a year or more of job experience after obtaining the diploma is a separate exclusion; higher professional qualifications and relevant previous apprenticeship-contract restrictions may also bar a candidate. Previous apprenticeship in a different trade can be eligible under specifically notified gaps and affidavit terms; a previous breach-related termination cannot be disguised as eligibility.
NATS, document matching and selection
At NATS establishment EBRBEC000003, apply for the actual Instrumentation Technician Apprentice code 107 opportunity. The second submission is the separate Barauni additional-data Microsoft Form linked by IndianOil, with exactly matching name, NATS ID, email, mobile and course/marks details. Applications close 6 December; no official closing time is stated. The qualifying diploma percentage determines merit, older DOB resolves a tie and Matric percentage resolves a further tie. No separate written assessment is published.
What the offer does and does not include
Medical fitness after original-document verification is required, with relevant disability suitability for the five PwBD horizontal positions. Training is 12 months; stipend amount Not specified in rupees. Apprentices receive the applicable leave/insurance and safety items but not company accommodation or HRA under this advertisement. Successful training does not entitle anyone to permanent employment at Barauni Refinery or an Instrumentation Engineer grade.
