Supreme Court JCA 2026 - 250 Posts, 1:10 Shortlist, 35 WPM Typing & 20 Nov Test
The Supreme Court of India has opened Junior Court Assistant Examination 2026 for 250 tentative Group-B Non-Gazetted vacancies. The recruitment is unusually important to read beyond the headline: the first objective test is tentatively fixed for 20 November 2026, carries 0.25 negative marking, and can feed only about 10 candidates per tentative vacancy into the typing/descriptive stage. A 35 w.p.m. English typing test is compulsory, and the descriptive answer sheet is evaluated only for candidates who qualify the typing test. Online applications are open from 7 October 2026, 10:00 AM to 28 October 2026, 11:55 PM.

About this Recruitment
Recruitment-specific overview from the published record.
Supreme Court of India Advertisement No. F.6/2026-SC (RC), dated 30 September 2026, invites Indian citizens for preparation of a panel to fill 250 tentative vacancies of Junior Court Assistant, a Group-B Non-Gazetted post in Pay Matrix Level 6 with initial basic pay of Rs. 35,400 plus admissible allowances. The vacancy figure is expressly tentative and may change with Registry requirements; the advertisement does not publish a category-wise vacancy breakup, so no UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS counts should be inferred.
APPLICANT FILTER: A candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognized University in India, know computer operation and be able to type in English at 35 words per minute on computer. Age is 18 to 30 years as on 1 September 2026. Usual relaxation is admissible to SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Physically Challenged and Ex-Servicemen candidates under Government of India rules. Dependents of freedom fighters can receive up to five years' relaxation beyond the upper limit. Departmental candidates of the Supreme Court Registry have no upper age limit, while employees of other Government Departments, PSUs and Nationalized Banks do not receive an age relaxation merely because of that employment.
SELECTION FUNNEL - THE PART MOST SHORT SUMMARIES MISS: The objective test has 100 questions for 100 marks in 90 minutes with a 50-mark minimum and 0.25 negative marking per wrong answer. Its seven sections are General English including comprehension (20), General Aptitude (15), General Knowledge (15), constitutional provisions relating to the Judiciary (15), Supreme Court Rules, 2013 (10), Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961 (10), and Computer Knowledge (15). If large numbers clear the 50-mark floor, shortlisting to the next stage is by merit at a ratio of 1:10 against tentative vacancies. With 250 vacancies, that ratio corresponds to about 2,500 candidates as a derived planning figure, not a guaranteed count.
The next stage contains an English typing test and an English descriptive written test. Typing is 10 minutes, 50 marks, minimum 25 marks, with a required speed of 35 w.p.m.; mistakes up to 3% of total words typed are allowed. Crucially, the descriptive answer sheet is evaluated only for a candidate who qualifies the typing test. The descriptive paper is 100 marks, minimum 50, two hours, and covers comprehension, precis writing and essay writing. Candidates who qualify all three tests are shortlisted for interview in a 1:3 ratio against tentative vacancies; for 250 vacancies this is about 750 candidates as a derived planning figure. Interview carries 25 marks with 13 as the minimum qualifying mark. The advertisement states marks and qualifying floors for all stages but does not, in the cited text, separately spell out a final-merit weighting formula; no such formula should be invented.
TIMELINE PRESSURE: The objective test is tentatively scheduled for 20 November 2026, only 23 days after the 28 October closing date. Answer keys are scheduled to be uploaded on 22 November 2026, with the tentative online objection window running from 22 to 23 November 2026 up to 11:55 PM. Each objection costs Rs. 100 and the fee is refundable if the objection is found valid.
CENTRE AND TRAVEL IMPLICATION: Annexure-A lists 131 objective-test city entries across India. However, the Typing Speed Test and Descriptive Test are to be conducted in Delhi/NCR. The interview may be held online or physically in Delhi as directed by the competent authority. This means a candidate choosing a nearby objective-test city should still plan for a possible later-stage trip to Delhi/NCR. The advertisement does not allow requests for change of city/test centre or test/interview date and no TA/DA is payable.
FORM-SUBMISSION TRAPS: The application once submitted cannot be withdrawn or modified. If more than one form is submitted, only the form with the latest Application Number will be considered. Name, father's name, mother's name and date of birth must match the High School/Xth Board certificate; a changed name/surname must be supported by a Gazette Notification. Candidates must upload the required photograph, signature and certificates and retain the Application Number for later admit-card generation. Government/State Government/PSU/Nationalized Bank employees must produce an NOC at document verification. A candidate who becomes employed during or after the examination process must promptly inform the Recruitment Cell as directed in the advertisement.
