About this Recruitment

Recruitment-specific overview from the published record.

Supreme Court Junior Court Attendant 2026: the qualification ceiling matters as much as the examination

The Supreme Court of India has invited online applications for a panel against 130 tentative Junior Court Attendant vacancies, a Group-C, non-clerical post in the Registry. The signed recruitment advertisement is F.3/2026-SC (RC), dated 15 October 2026. A separate Recruitment Cell communication of 3 November announced the official online application link and confirmed that the Objective Type Test will be in English only. Applications run from 4 November 2026 at 10:00 a.m. until 25 November 2026 at 11:55 p.m. These are Registry service posts, not the separately advertised Junior Court Assistant clerical cadre or the Junior Court Attendant (Cooking Knowing) recruitment conducted in 2024.

There is an unusually decisive education filter: applicants need at least Class X, but Class XII/10+2 is the maximum notified qualification. A candidate holding a bachelor's degree should not treat this as an ordinary '10th pass or higher' vacancy. The notice places an upper as well as a lower limit on education; assess the actual highest qualification rather than merely uploading a Class X marksheet. All eligibility conditions must be considered with the advertisement's 1 October 2026 reference date, subject to its application instructions.

The selection has an objective written test of 100 marks and a separate interview of 25 marks. Both have minimum qualifying standards: 50 and 13 marks respectively. Candidates who clear the written minimum are not automatically guaranteed an interview, a place in the panel, or appointment. The Registry can restrict the interview pool to three candidates per tentative vacancy if many candidates pass. Vacancies may change with administrative needs.

The 3 November announcement is particularly important because it specifies the English-only test medium and the exact application window. Candidates should not plan around a bilingual question paper. The objective test date and objection timetable are expressly tentative in the recruitment process; make travel arrangements according to the eventual call letter and subsequent official instructions.

Pay Matrix ₹21,700–₹69,100 is not a guarantee of ₹69,100 on appointment. The initial basic figure is ₹21,700; allowances and actual deductions vary with applicable service rules. The written examination offers cities throughout India, but a test city in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh or another state does not represent a district-wise vacancy or an appointment in that city.

Who is qualified: the minimum-and-maximum education rule

The notice states minimum Class X from a Government-recognised Board/Institute and maximum Class XII/10+2 from a Government-recognised Board/Institute. It does not prescribe subject specialisation, experience, a computer certificate, a typing speed or a graduation percentage. The last point must not be mistaken for permission to submit a higher degree: having an educational qualification above 12th can breach the advertised maximum qualification.

Applicant profileEligibility reading before age/category review
Class X passed and no higher completed qualificationWithin the stated education range
Class XII passed, no completed qualification above Class XIIWithin the stated education range
Class IX onlyDoes not meet the minimum
Graduate degree completedAbove the notified maximum Class XII level
Postgraduate degree completedAbove the notified maximum Class XII level
Presently studying beyond Class XII without a completed higher qualificationCheck the precise qualification position and declarations in the application and applicable Registry guidance; do not misstate completed education

Do not confuse this post with Junior Court Assistant: their names are similar, but the non-clerical Junior Court Attendant here has a distinct qualification range, functional duties and test scheme. The appointment is a regular Registry recruitment, not a short-term apprenticeship.

Age on 1 October 2026: which concessions are actually stated?

The general range is 18–27 years as on 1 October 2026. The ordinary birthday window corresponding to those age limits is approximately 2 October 1998 through 1 October 2008, subject to the Registry's method of calculating age and any applicable relaxation. Use the Date of Birth printed on the recognised Class X or equivalent certificate when filling the form.

Candidate circumstanceRule in the advertisement
Ordinary candidate without a concession18–27 years on 1 October 2026
SC/ST, OBC Non-Creamy Layer, PwBD, ex-servicemenUsual Government of India age concessions, subject to their respective rules and proof; exact combined limits are not itemised in the notice
Dependants of freedom fightersRelaxation of up to five years above the prescribed upper limit
Widow/divorced/judicially separated woman, not remarriedUpper limit up to 35 years; 38 for OBC-NCL; 40 for SC/ST
Serving departmental candidate of the Supreme Court RegistryNo upper age limit under the stated departmental provision
Employees of other Government departments, PSUs, statutory bodies or nationalised banksNo departmental age relaxation merely for such employment

This distinction can decide an application. A person employed in a nationalised bank cannot claim the Supreme Court Registry's no-upper-age-limit departmental concession simply because both employers are public bodies. Similarly, a widow's concession is linked to the marital-status conditions stated in the notice, and a disability concession depends on the requisite supporting documents.

Reservation: 130 is a total, not an announced category roster

Reservation will follow Rule 4A of the Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961. The advertisement does not publish an exact numerical UR/SC/ST/OBC/EWS vacancy split for these 130 positions. Dividing 130 by general quota percentages and declaring the result an official seat count would be misleading. SC/ST and OBC-NCL claims require valid caste/community evidence and, where relevant, a current non-creamy-layer certificate at the prescribed verification stage.

Candidates who qualify only through a relaxed category standard may be considered against the appropriate reserved vacancies rather than automatically entering the unreserved competition. The application category must be chosen carefully: the Registry explicitly says that requests to change category after submitting the form will not be considered.

The fee is non-refundable and can be paid only online using the UCO Bank-provided payment gateway. A saved form without a completed successful payment should not be treated as proof of application. The paid fee is not accepted by post, bank challan or a different offline route under this notice.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes (90 minutes). Each correct answer earns one mark; each incorrect answer incurs a 0.25-mark deduction. The minimum written qualifying score is 50/100. This is an aggregate minimum given in the source, not four separate published sectional cut-offs. The 3 November official communication states that the objective examination will be conducted only in English; there is no official Hindi-language version for this test.

The paper's four subjects carry equal marks, so preparing only General Knowledge or only Reasoning leaves three-quarters of the examination insufficiently covered. With 90 minutes for 100 questions, the average pace is 54 seconds per question—an arithmetic planning aid, not an official per-question timer. The negative-marking rule makes accuracy important; 60 correct, 20 incorrect and 20 unattempted would yield 55 marks (60 − 20×0.25), whereas 50 correct and 20 incorrect would yield 45 marks, below the specified written qualifying standard. These are illustrations, not predicted selection cut-offs.

A fixed qualifying mark is not the interview cut-off

The written-test minimum is 50, but the notice allows the Registry to call candidates in a 1:3 ratio relative to tentative vacancies if a large number score at least 50. At the presently advertised 130 vacancies, that works out to up to approximately 390 interview invitations if the ratio is applied at the present vacancy count. This is a conditional calculation, not an announced number of shortlisted people or a guaranteed call for everyone with 50 marks.

The interview carries 25 marks, with 13 marks as its own minimum qualifying requirement. The final panel is prepared in order of merit as determined by the Registry; merely entering the panel does not create an enforceable right to appointment. The advertisement does not spell out a separate sectional cut-off or a formal published equation for weighting the test and interview, so no invented 80:20 or similar formula should be assumed.

☑️ What the Junior Court Attendant actually does

The official advertisement describes practical support work: carrying files, paper books, books and records; dusting tables, chairs, almirahs, windows, bookshelves and other furniture; serving tea, coffee, snacks, water and similar refreshments to officers and officials of the Registry. This is non-clerical support work. It is not the dictation, stenography, case-record drafting or typing-driven Junior Court Assistant role. Candidates should understand the real work before applying simply because the employer is the Supreme Court.

Being asked to handle court-related records also requires attentiveness to the locations and safekeeping of papers, orderly movement of items, punctuality and discretion. These are sensible ways to understand the stated duties; the notification does not list a separate certificate-based housekeeping trade examination.

🧭 Test centres: nationwide choices, one Registry employer

The examination-centre annexure lists 131 numbered centre-city entries across India. Applicants choose preferred cities in order, but the Registry can allot or change a city, increase/decrease centres or shift to a different city for administrative reasons. The list includes Arrah, Aurangabad, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Patna and Purnea in Bihar, and Bokaro Steel City, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh and Ranchi in Jharkhand. Delhi/NCR is also listed. Centre preferences are not binding; no request for a change of city, test centre or test/interview date will be entertained.

Interviews may be conducted either through an online arrangement or physically in Delhi, as directed by the competent authority. There is no TA/DA for attending the Test/Interview. Before choosing a centre, consider travel arrangements for the tentatively announced 26 December objective test and the possibility that the final admit card may assign a different city.

Official answer keys and objection procedure: details that affect your next action

The original notice proposes uploading the answer keys on 28 December 2026 after the Objective Type Test. The tentative online objection period is 28–29 December 2026, until 11:55 p.m. on 29 December. The prescribed objection charge is ₹100 per challenged question, refunded if that objection is found valid. The competent authority will examine objections and its decision will be final.

The two amounts in this recruitment have completely different purposes: ₹750/₹1,500 is the application fee, whereas ₹100 is the fee for each answer-key objection. They must not be added together as a standard application charge. An answer-key publication date is not an already released answer key; the final dates and actual availability must be checked on the official recruitment page.

Documents and application: six checks before pressing final submit

  1. Eligibility first: confirm the Class X-to-Class XII completed-education range, age on 1 October 2026 and appropriate category claim.
  2. Identity: use the name, father's name, mother's name and Date of Birth as in the recognised Class X or equivalent certificate. If a surname has formally changed, prepare the Gazette notification required by the notice.
  3. Upload: keep scanned photograph, signature, Class X, XII and category/disability documents ready where applicable. There is no officially specified file-size table in the supplied 12-page advertisement, so follow the actual form's instructions rather than arbitrary dimensions taken from other recruitments.
  4. Payment: complete registration and pay through the official online gateway; retain the transaction receipt and application number.
  5. Preview: review names, completed education, category, uploaded proofs and centre preferences. Changes to category and other submitted fields are restricted, and the Registry does not undertake to correct mistakes later.
  6. Keep records: retain the full application preview, payment details, registration number, contact email and mobile number. The admit card is to be downloaded; the Registry will not send it by post.

A candidate filing more than one application must ensure that the latest submitted completed application is the intended one, as the advertisement describes only the latest completed form being accepted for recruitment processing. Applicants in Central/State Government, public undertakings, statutory bodies and nationalised banks must obtain the relevant No Objection Certificate before interview. Those who take up employment after applying must promptly notify the Registry and submit the required NOC.

Disability accommodations are document-based, not automatic

Persons with Disabilities can receive applicable examination facilities according to the relevant Government of India directions. For those entitled to a scribe or compensatory time, the notice supplies Appendix I (medical certification of the limitation affecting writing) and Appendix II (undertaking for an own scribe), to be used as applicable. The scribe must meet the prescribed qualification rules, and the candidate must produce appropriate eligibility and support documents at the examination and verification stages. Missing or inconsistent proof can invalidate the claimed facility and affect candidature.

Frequently asked questions based on the signed notice

Can a graduate apply because the minimum is 10th? The notice also states maximum Class XII/10+2. A completed degree exceeds that upper educational limit.

Is this the 2024 Cooking Knowing post? No. This is the 2026 ordinary Junior Court Attendant, Group-C non-clerical recruitment. Neither the 2024 cooking trade test nor its eligibility can be transplanted here.

Is the exam bilingual? No. The 3 November 2026 Recruitment Cell notice explicitly confirms English only for the Objective Type Test.

Is 50/100 enough for an interview? It is the stated written qualifying minimum, but the conditional 1:3 shortlisting rule can make actual interview invitation more selective.

Do I have to pass the interview separately? Yes; the advertisement specifies 13 out of 25 as the interview minimum.

Will the job be at my exam centre? No. Nationwide test cities are logistical options. The position belongs to the Supreme Court Registry.

When should I download the admit card? The Registry will make admit cards downloadable through its official site; no release date is prescribed in the signed 12-page notice.

Is the provisional answer key already published? No; 28 December is a proposed future date tied to the tentative examination schedule.

Does the advertisement specify exactly how many SC, ST, OBC, EWS or UR posts exist? No numerical category roster is included in this recruitment notice.

Is ₹21,700 the full monthly in-hand salary? It is the initial basic pay, not a published net monthly amount. Allowances and deductions are governed by applicable rules.

Official recruitment documents

A final review of the education ceiling, category, photograph/signature and uploaded evidence is more valuable than guessing an unpublished reservation split or relying on a different Supreme Court examination's requirements.

Post description

Junior Court Attendant — the non-clerical Registry post, not Junior Court Assistant

This is a Group-C support position attached to the Registry of the Supreme Court of India. The Registry has advertised 130 tentative posts under F.3/2026-SC (RC), dated 15 October 2026. The purpose of the recruitment is to prepare a merit panel; it is not a promise of immediate appointment for everyone who meets the minima. The post's starting basic pay is ₹21,700 in Level 3, with the pay-matrix span of ₹21,700–₹69,100 plus admissible allowances.

A different job from the clerk and stenographer streams

The signed advertisement describes concrete duties: transporting files, paper books, books and records; dusting office tables, chairs, bookshelves, almirahs, windows and furniture; and serving tea, coffee, water, snacks and refreshments to officers and officials. It is an office-attendant role requiring organised, careful support to a working judicial registry. The advertisement does not require computer typing at 35 or 40 WPM, stenography at a notified speed or a cooking diploma. Candidates should not use the eligibility of a Junior Court Assistant, Court Master or Cooking Knowing vacancy to decide eligibility for this post.

The work involves movement of physical records and everyday room upkeep, so practical readiness for these duties matters. An applicant should be comfortable with routine institutional service, punctuality, confidential document handling and maintaining an orderly workplace. These are explanatory expectations linked to the duties; the advertisement does not publish a separate physical-trade or practical-skills examination for this 2026 role.

🔎 The education ceiling is binding

Qualification completedRelation to the notice
Class X / 10thMeets the minimum academic threshold
Class XII / 10+2Meets the highest notified educational threshold
Bachelor’s degree or aboveExceeds the stated maximum Class XII qualification

The maximum education condition is not a preference that can be ignored when a candidate has higher degrees. The official requirement is minimum X and maximum XII/10+2 from a Government-recognised Board/Institute. Candidates with unusual equivalence or overlapping academic qualifications should rely on the Registry's formal instructions rather than conceal a degree. Neither a minimum marks percentage nor subject-specific qualification is announced for Classes X/XII.

Age concessions are not uniform across all public employees

General eligibility is 18–27 years on 1 October 2026. The notice permits usual government-rule relaxation for SC/ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD and ex-servicemen, up to five years for dependants of freedom fighters, special upper limits for eligible widows/divorced/judicially separated women (35/38/40 depending on category), and no upper age limit for the Supreme Court Registry's own departmental candidates. A post in a separate state department or PSU does not confer the Supreme Court departmental concession.

Pay and service location

This is a regular Supreme Court Registry post, with the employer located in New Delhi. The pay matrix and starting basic are notified; a fixed in-hand take-home amount is not. Nationwide exam cities and an interview that may be online or held in Delhi should not be confused with a choice of permanent location.

Two-stage selection and meaningful thresholds

Selection checkpointRequirement
Objective test100 questions, 100 marks, 90 minutes, English only
Negative marking0.25 mark deducted for each incorrect answer
Written minimum50/100
Shortlisting if many qualifyPotential 1:3 interview calls against tentative vacancies
Interview25 marks; separately at least 13 marks
PanelInclusion is not an automatic offer of appointment

The objective test is tentatively set for 26 December 2026. Interviews will be scheduled later. Candidates should read the final call letter for city, reporting and identification instructions. No hall ticket is sent by post, and no TA/DA is payable for test/interview appearances.

Candidate documents to reconcile in advance

The name, parents' names and Date of Birth should match the recognised Class X or equivalent certificate. Keep both school certificates where applicable, category/OBC-NCL/PwBD/ex-serviceman evidence as applicable, scanned photograph, signature, contact information and a copy of the submitted form. A changed legal name should be accompanied by the Gazette notification described in the advertisement. Government/PSU employees need an employer No Objection Certificate before interview. For approved scribes, Appendix I/II and the prescribed medical/disability evidence must be available as required.

Final decision checklist

  • Can you meet both the educational minimum and ceiling? A higher educational qualification is a material barrier here.
  • Can you perform the non-clerical duties actually described? It is not a stenography or office-typing job.
  • Can you take a 90-minute English-only objective test? There is no Hindi paper option in the 3 November notice.
  • Can you meet the written and interview standards separately? Crossing 50/100 is a minimum, not a promise of interview.
  • Can you attend an allotted examination city and, if required, an in-person interview in Delhi without reimbursement? Centre choice is a preference rather than a guarantee.

For dates, official links, fees and answer-key objection provisions, consult the recruitment's detailed announcement and the Supreme Court recruitment page.
