APPSC Lab Assistant (Mining) 2026 β€” Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)

Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission

The 6 November 2026 detailed APPSC Lab Assistant Notification 34/2026 expressly requires provisionally shortlisted candidates to pass a separate qualifying Computer Proficiency Test (CPT). The practical test is 100 marks and 60 minutes, and its marks do not augment the 300-mark written CBRT merit. Annexure II stipulates 30 marks SC/ST/PBD, 35 BC, 40 OC as CPT qualifying thresholds; the separate general PBD qualifying column is not a reservation of this post.

Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) β€” mandatory qualifying stage

The APPSC Lab Assistant notification includes the Computer Proficiency Test scheme prescribed under G.O.Ms.No.26, General Administration (Ser.B), 24 February 2023. The practical assessment is 60 minutes for 100 marks. Paragraphs 9.5 and 14.2 of the detailed notification confirm that provisionally shortlisted candidates must qualify CPT; it does not add another 100 marks to the written merit.

The component proportions total 100%. A document-preparation exercise is described as part of the practical assessment, while the annexure separately identifies typing, object insertion, spreadsheets and presentations; the five numerical shares should not be expanded into six separate marks buckets.

Part A β€” computer fundamentals

  • Computer classification and components; input, output and storage hardware (keyboards, scanners, touch devices, biometric readers, monitors, printers, storage media, RAM, ROM, CU and ALU).
  • Types of software: system, application, embedded, proprietary and open-source software.
  • Operating systems: single-user/multi-user systems, GUI versus CUI, Windows files and folders, peripheral setup and basic Linux/Mac concepts including directory handling and access permissions.
  • Internet protocols and browsers, network connectivity, uploads/downloads, electronic mail and web searching.

Part B β€” applied office software

  • Working with Microsoft Office or equivalent LibreOffice, Apache OpenOffice or NeoOffice, including opening, creating, editing, formatting and saving files.
  • Word processing: text layout, page settings, sections, margins, headers/footers, tables and table operations, mail merge, images, cross-references, page numbers, search/replace, spell check and document printing.
  • Spreadsheet: cells and worksheets, data entry, formulas and functions, relative/absolute references, formatting, sorting, filters and subtotals, conditional formatting, charts and print settings.
  • Presentation software: layouts, master slides, tables, images, objects, animation/transitions, slide order and slide-show configuration.

Nature of the test

Part A may use objective questions for 20% of the marks. The computer-based practical component covers typing 25%, object insertion/document formatting 15%, spreadsheets 20% and presentation 20%. The annexure says typing speed may be mandatory subject to applicable norms, but it does not give an exact WPM threshold. No CPT test date, individual venue or admit-card date is announced in this recruitment notice.
