Multi-Tasking Staff — GSPCB Written Exam and Detailed Syllabus 2026
Goa State Pollution Control Board · Advertisement 01/2026 · 75-mark multiple-choice OMR · 90 minutes · examination date not yet notified.
The single written test is the official selection examination for this post. No interview or independent practical examination has been notified. Its three components are 30 marks for the post-specific subject, 35 marks for common general knowledge/reasoning/mathematics/computer awareness, and 10 marks for Konkani. The Board may make a minor adjustment within the total, as allowed in the detailed syllabus, but the overall maximum remains 75 marks. Candidates are instructed to report 30 minutes before the scheduled examination.
Multi-Tasking Staff: office duties and aptitude in the technical block — 30 marks
The page-4 examination scheme assigns the first 30 marks to logical reasoning ability, general English, current affairs and quantitative aptitude. The separately appended detailed syllabus identifies basic office procedures; handling/movement of files and records; office upkeep; office equipment; workplace safety; environmental awareness; waste segregation/disposal; water conservation; sanitation, hygiene and the duties of MTS. Read both lists together: the paper is for the notified MTS role, not a specialized postgraduate environmental laboratory paper.
Office work and record custody. Study how a document is received, logged, carried and handed over; the difference between moving a file and altering its content; care of workplace equipment and clean shared spaces. These descriptions translate the listed syllabus into study focus, not a promise of a particular daily duty or shift.
Reasoning, English, current events and numerical basics. Practice simple language comprehension, logic/series problems, everyday quantitative accuracy and general civic/environmental awareness. The document assigns 35 more marks to general knowledge; do not double-count the category as a 65-mark purely mathematical paper.
Safety and public-sector context. Focus on waste segregation, cleanliness, water conservation, sanitation and safe use of basic equipment, all explicitly within the detailed syllabus. It states no interview, typing speed threshold, driving test or computer practical as an automatic part of this recruitment.
Eligibility trap: SSC OR the recognised ITI/equivalent route is the stated academic choice, but one year of qualifying work experience is separately mandatory under the accompanying personnel notification except where the specifically cited PwBD Group C exemption applies.
Common 35-mark syllabus — what is actually prescribed
General Knowledge: Indian history and geography, the Constitution, general science, current affairs, Goa history and geography, government administration, environmental awareness and important national/international events. Prepare factual state context alongside central institutions, and distinguish news recall from conceptual environmental principles.
Reasoning: analogy, classification, numerical/alphabetic series, coding and decoding, blood relations, directions, logical sequences, basic puzzles and problem solving. Carefully read whether an item asks for a rule, an exception, an inference or a sequence; the published syllabus does not prescribe a separate mark count for each subtopic.
Mathematics: number system, simplification, fractions and decimals, percentages, ratios and proportions, averages, profit and loss, simple interest, time and work, time and distance, and basic interpretation of numerical data. Learn to estimate before calculating; these are syllabus topics, not promises of particular questions.
Basic Computer Awareness: hardware/software concepts, input/output devices, operating-system basics, word processing, spreadsheets, internet/email and cyber safety. This appears within the common 35-mark section and does not create a fourth independent paper.
Konkani — compulsory 10 marks, separate passing gateway
The detailed syllabus identifies Konkani in Devanagari: basic grammar, vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, sentence construction, correction, comprehension and practical language usage. All candidates must achieve at least four out of ten in this section. Under the main notice the Konkani questions appear first and candidates failing that threshold are not taken up for further evaluation. There is no officially specified additional oral language interview.

Passing thresholds, merit and examination-day rules
Qualifying minima are eligibility thresholds. They are not a forecast of the actual final merit score with only eight seats across four separate roles. The notice does not disclose a specific number of MCQs per topic, negative-marking fraction, shift-wise normalization formula, set-wise time division or a pre-declared cutoff for any role. Candidates should use the Board's eventual examination instructions rather than borrowed rules from another selection.
The Board has allowed compensatory time of 20 minutes for each examination hour for eligible candidates with the specified disabilities, and medical assessment/Appendix documentation for a scribe, reader or laboratory assistant. Eligible candidates should inform GSPCB in advance. The result is to appear on the Board's office notice board and government/Board websites; no result date is confirmed. No TA/DA is payable for the exam or certificate-verification attendance.
Priorities without a fabricated chapter allocation
Prepare the job-specific 30-mark topic list; revise the common 35-mark scope; and secure the compulsory Konkani gateway. An applicant who neglects Konkani cannot compensate by scoring well elsewhere. Conversely, clearing 4/10 in Konkani alone does not remove the 75-mark aggregate qualifying rule or guarantee a seat. Throughout preparation, separate the syllabus actually printed in the advertisement from examples used to explain its topic names.
