About this Recruitment
Recruitment-specific overview from the published record.
ISRO URSC Recruitment 2026: 61 Technician-B and Driver Vacancies — 11 Post Codes, Two Different Tests
Official instrument: Department of Space / Indian Space Research Organisation, U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Advertisement URSC:04:2026 dated 24 October 2026. The bilingual, 21-page signed recruitment notice covers a single application cycle of 61 positions. ISRO’s current URSC recruitment entry confirms the application dates and marks the opportunity as announced; the online link is specified to activate 24 October 2026 at 5:00 PM IST, not at the start of that morning.
Decision first: There are 46 Technician-B places distributed across eight NCVT trades and 15 Driver-A places across three codes. The two tracks have different qualifying marks, negative marking, syllabus and shortlist ratios. An SSLC pass alone does not qualify someone for Technician-B without the accepted NCVT trade credential. Likewise, holding a licence without completed post-licence driving experience does not meet the advertised driver eligibility.
🗓️ Four dates that must not be confused
| Event | Official rule | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Advertisement published | 24 October 2026 | This is not an older URSC:01/02/03/2026 intake |
| Portal opens | 24 October 2026, 5:00 PM IST | Applying earlier than activation is not possible through the announced link |
| Online submission closes | 13 November 2026, 11:55 PM IST | Final registration/submission, not merely form saving |
| Fee payment deadline | 13 November 2026 | Exact independent payment time is not specified in the signed notice |
| Crucial eligibility date | 13 November 2026 | Age, passed qualification, valid licence and accumulated experience evaluated by this date |
Important: The English original controls interpretation if bilingual passages conflict. Skill tests and written tests are NOT scheduled for a particular date in this advertisement. Do not confuse the publication of a syllabus and test rules with the release of an admit card, result, answer key or examination timetable.
🧰 The 61 jobs — every official code, not merely four attractive post names
| Code | Notified trade or driver designation | Seats | Vertical allocation | Advertised initial identification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Technician-B — Electronics Mechanic and allied NCVT electronics trades | 24 | UR 16, ST 1, OBC 2, EWS 5 | URSC / location per offer |
| 02 | Technician-B — Fitter | 8 | UR 4, ST 1, OBC 1, EWS 2 | URSC / location per offer |
| 03 | Technician-B — Electrician | 4 | UR 3, SC 1 | MCF Hassan 2 (UR 1, SC 1); URSC 2 |
| 04 | Technician-B — Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning | 5 | UR 3, SC 1, EWS 1 | MCF Hassan 1 UR; URSC 4 |
| 05 | Technician-B — Turner | 1 | UR 1 | URSC / location per offer |
| 06 | Technician-B — Machinist | 2 | UR 1, EWS 1 | URSC / location per offer |
| 07 | Technician-B — Motor Vehicle Mechanic | 1 | UR 1 | URSC / location per offer |
| 08 | Technician-B — Electroplater | 1 | UR 1 | URSC / location per offer |
| 09 | Light Vehicle Driver-A | 3 | UR 2, SC 1 | URSC / location per offer |
| 10 | Staff Car Driver-A | 2 | UR 2 | Department of Space 2 UR |
| 11 | Heavy Vehicle Driver-A | 10 | UR 6, OBC 2, SC 1, EWS 1 | MCF Hassan 2 UR; remainder URSC |
| TOTAL | 11 official post codes | 61 | UR 40; EWS 10; OBC 5; SC 4; ST 2 | MCF/DoS designations are within, not additional to, 61 |
The exact 61 count is the arithmetic sum of the published codes, including the five designated MCF Hassan vacancies and two Department of Space Staff Car Driver vacancies within the total. The 4 (2+2), 5 (4+1) and 10 (8+2) brackets on the PDF are centre splits, NOT extra seats to add again. Vacancy numbers are provisional and can change only through an official update.
📊 Where the 61 openings are actually concentrated
The largest opportunity is one electronics trade family
| Notified post code | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| 01 Electronics / allied NCVT trades | 24 |
| 02 Fitter | 8 |
| 03 Electrician | 4 |
| 04 Refrigeration & AC | 5 |
| 05 Turner | 1 |
| 06 Machinist | 2 |
| 07 Motor Vehicle Mechanic | 1 |
| 08 Electroplater | 1 |
| 09 Light Vehicle Driver-A | 3 |
| 10 Staff Car Driver-A | 2 |
| 11 Heavy Vehicle Driver-A | 10 |
The combined Electronics/allied trade group alone holds 24/61 = 39.34% of the seats, but that statistic is NOT a candidate's probability of success: it pools five explicitly accepted NCVT electronics specializations. Fitter (8) and HVD-A (10) are the next comparatively large single-code pools; a driver cannot compete for technician posts without an eligible trade certificate, nor can a non-matching ITI holder shift between trades by treating all Technician-B seats as interchangeable.
🧮 Vertical roster — and why PwBD / ESM must never be counted twice
How the 61 positions are divided among vertical categories
| Category | Seats |
|---|---|
| UR | 40 |
| EWS | 10 |
| OBC | 5 |
| SC | 4 |
| ST | 2 |
These five categories sum to 61. UR is not a separate reservation exclusively for general-category applicants: otherwise eligible reserved-category applicants may be considered for UR seats under the applicable general standard. The announced SC/ST five-year and OBC three-year upper-age relaxation is linked to an actually reserved seat for that category; it is not automatically available for competition against a code's UR vacancy. EWS does not receive an automatic additional three/five-year age concession from this notice.
Horizontal overlays in the same seats: For URSC there are 21 Technician-B ESM slots plus 2 LVD-A and 6 HVD-A ESM slots = 29, with 24 ESM backlog vacancies within that total; an additional HVD-A MCF Hassan UR seat is ESM-designated. Electronics (code 01) has two VH, one OH and one ASD PwBD earmarks (one VH and the ASD are backlog), Fitter code 02 has one HH, Electrician code 03 has one URSC ASD backlog, and R&A/C code 04 has one URSC HH backlog. THESE ARE NOT 29+1+7 NEW SEATS: the PDF says the successful horizontal-category applicant is adjusted against the relevant vertical UR/SC/ST/OBC/EWS seat. Applicants claiming PwBD concession ordinarily need at least 40% relevant benchmark disability, subject to the published functional requirements and document rules (PDF pp.2–7).
When a PwBD backlog vacancy cannot be filled in the notified disability class, the authority first looks at another eligible benchmark disability and then the relevant vertical category as specified; ESM backlog has a distinct fall-through to identified vertical seats. The original announcement's ESM/PwBD counts should not be depicted as an independent pie added on top of 61.
🎓 Technician-B: the accepted NCVT trade—not just a generic ITI certificate
Each of codes 01–08 requires SSLC/SSC/Matriculation pass plus ITI/NTC/NAC from NCVT in the specified trade. NCVT and trade alignment matter; the document lists no universal 60%, 65% or 'first class' threshold. Applicants with pending final qualifying results are ineligible. Each eligible alternate trade/credential is an OR route, while Matriculation AND the valid trade credential are both mandatory.
| Code | Specific NCVT qualification that can satisfy the trade requirement | Verification trap |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Electronics Mechanic or Technician Power Electronic Systems or Mechanic Consumer Electronic Appliances or Instrument Mechanic or Mechanic Industrial Electronics | All five are grouped under ONE 24-seat code; no unadvertised Electronics degree substitution |
| 02 | Fitter | General 'mechanical background' does not substitute for the NCVT Fitter credential |
| 03 | Electrician | MCF Hassan has one UR and one SC place; a PwBD ASD backlog occurs only within URSC's two |
| 04 | Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (R&A/C) | Five seats include one MCF Hassan UR, and one URSC HH backlog |
| 05 | Turner | UR-only single seat; age concessions based on nonexistent Turner reserved seats should not be claimed |
| 06 | Machinist | One UR and one EWS slot—not a two-slot general pool |
| 07 | Motor Vehicle Mechanic | It is an NCVT technical trade, not the same qualification as a driving licence |
| 08 | Electroplater | One UR seat; trade-equivalence documentation must come from a competent institution |
Academic/NCVT tie breaker: Technician-B ranking is not simply 'highest ITI percentage wins'. The competitive written test remains central. If two or more applicants are tied on written-test marks and academic marks of the notified NAC/NTC/ITI qualification, a candidate holding valid NAC marks has preference over one without such marks. This tie sequence is expressly stated; claiming NAC automatically gives extra marks in every case would be incorrect.
🚚 Driver-A: experience must follow the licence issue date
The Driver-A roles are not generic '10th pass driving jobs'. All require SSLC/SSC/Matriculation or equivalent and valid licence(s), but documented experience is a separate mandatory filter.
| Code | Essential driving route | Evidence you should be able to establish |
|---|---|---|
| 09 LVD-A | Three years' light-vehicle driving experience after holding a valid LVD licence | Employer certificate, licence dates, relevant badge if statutory, no part-time years |
| 10 Staff Car Driver-A | Same three-year light-vehicle driving route after valid LVD licence; two DoS UR places | Actual experience in accepted organisations and proof of authority of issuing employer |
| 11 HVD-A | Five years of driving after receiving a valid licence, at least three years as HVD; balance in light-vehicle driving | Valid HVD licence, relevant Public Service Badge where statutory, specific HVD tenure, remainder LVD tenure |
For all driver roles, employment certificates must come from Government/semi-government bodies or registered companies/societies/trusts, not from individuals; part-time experience is not counted. A licence first issued partway through an employment spell does not retroactively make the preceding years eligible. If a Public Service Badge or Karnataka statutory condition is not required in the candidate's originating state, the original notice permits specific compliance within three months after joining in Karnataka where indicated; this is not permission to disregard licence and experience eligibility on 13 November. Candidates joining HVD-A may be tasked with both heavy and light vehicles (PDF pp.4–6, 16).
🎯 Written examinations — two routes, two negative-marking systems
Technician-B, codes 01–08
| Element | Official provision |
|---|---|
| Written questions | 80 objective MCQs |
| Time | 90 minutes |
| Correct / wrong answer | +1 / −0.33 |
| Topic source | Curriculum-based on the notified trade; no complete subject-by-subject chapter list is reproduced |
| Written pass (UR standard) | 32/80 = 40% |
| Written pass (eligible reserved-category post) | 24/80 = 30% |
| Skill test | Qualifying, 100 marks; UR 50, eligible reserved category 40 |
| Written-to-skill shortlist | 1:5 by performance, with minimum 10 candidates, subject to actual eligible pool/rules |
The 24/80 and 40/100 concessions are not universal for a reserved-category applicant choosing an UR vacancy; they apply as stated only where the post is advertised for that reservation. With −0.33 per wrong answer, 40 correct and 24 wrong yield an illustrative raw written score 40 − 7.92 = 32.08/80, BEFORE any administrative evaluation: this is arithmetic to explain the marking system, not a predicted cut-off. The candidate still needs the actual post's reservation entitlement and later skill test.
Drivers, codes 09–11
The 100-question driver test by notified section
| Driver written-test section | Questions |
|---|---|
| A — Motor Vehicles Act and transport law | 50 |
| B — Elementary English (Class VIII level) | 15 |
| C — Elementary Arithmetic (Class X level) | 15 |
| D — General Knowledge and current affairs | 20 |
| Element | Official provision |
| --- | --- |
| Written duration | 120 minutes for 100 MCQs |
| Correct / wrong | +1 / −0.25 |
| UR pass standard | At least 50% of Part A AND 50% of B+C+D combined (25/50 in each of these two scoring blocks) |
| Reserved-post concession | 25% relaxation in the passing marks where the concerned category has a reserved post; do not reinterpret it as blanket 25 percentage points or apply on all UR positions |
| Written-to-skill shortlist | 1:10 |
| Driving skill assessment | 100 marks; 60 to qualify in every category—no relaxation |
| Tie | Academic marks in the notified qualification resolve equal written scores |
Example of independent blocks: 36/50 in road-transport law plus 22/50 combined in English, arithmetic and GK does not pass the standard driver written-test requirement, even though the overall score is 58/100. Both independent thresholds must be met. A candidate obtaining 25/50 + 25/50 meets the UR-level two-block minimum (subject to negative-marking score and official processing), yet that is not a guarantee of shortlisting, which depends on ranking and 1:10 consideration.
Driver Part A covers amendments to Motor Vehicles Act, driver licensing, vehicle registration, control of transport vehicles and traffic, insurance, offences/penalties/procedure, signs, accident claims and claims tribunals. Part B tests basic English synonyms/antonyms, appropriate verbs and gap-filling. Part C tests arithmetic operations, percentages, ratios and averages. Part D covers current affairs, persons in news, Indian states/capitals and geography (PDF pp.11–12). Do not import an external 'common ISRO driver syllabus' when the 2026 advertisement supplies this specific scheme.
💰 ₹500 up front is not the same as a ₹500 non-refundable fee
| Applicant group (each separate application) | Paid initially | Refunded only after appearing in the written test | Final retained fee if attended |
|---|---|---|---|
| Women, SC/ST, eligible PwBD, Ex-servicemen | ₹500 | ₹500 | ₹0 |
| All others including UR/OBC/EWS men without exemption | ₹500 | ₹400 | ₹100 |
| Anyone absent from written test | ₹500 | ₹0 | ₹500 |
A ₹100 non-refundable application fee exists for non-exempt applicants, but every candidate must first pay ₹500 per application through the online Bharatkosh gateway. Refund happens only on written-test attendance, not merely on completing registration, being screened in or being eligible for a concession. Transaction/platform service charges are borne by the applicant and are not independently quantified. Refund ordinarily returns to the original payment method; if that fails, the correct bank details entered by the applicant control alternate settlement. Applications without timely successful payment risk not being considered. Do not put refundable: false merely because ₹100 is described as the non-refundable part: the entire advertised upfront payment has conditional refund provisions (PDF pp.9–10).
💵 What ₹21,700 and ₹19,900 actually mean
| Posts | 7th CPC pay matrix | Advertised starting basic | Gross/in-hand caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technician-B codes 01–08 | Level 3 | ₹21,700 per month | Allowances as applicable, not a promised ₹21,700 take-home |
| Driver-A codes 09–11 | Level 2 | ₹19,900 per month | Allowances as applicable, gross cannot be computed precisely from this advertisement |
The notice describes the positions as temporary but likely to continue. It also refers to NPS/UPS as applicable, limited housing in lieu of HRA, free transport in lieu of transport allowance, leave travel concessions, medical scheme and subsidised canteen subject to conditions. Some technical progression follows a merit-review path; administrative/auxiliary progression can be vacancy-based. No fixed net-pay figure, CTC package, fixed contract end date or universal HRA addition is certified here.
🖥️ Application: four failure points to address before pressing submit
- Choose the correct code. One electronics family (code 01) accepts five trade alternatives; the seven other Technician-B codes do not automatically accept every electrical/mechanical ITI. A candidate submitting more than one post application may face overlapping exam sessions; the notice advises selecting one if there is a clash.
- Have photos and scanned proofs ready: white-background passport photo taken within six months 3.5×4.5 cm, JPG/JPEG 100–200 KB; signature JPG/JPEG 80–150 KB; essential qualification proof and driving experience/licence where applicable; SC/ST/PwBD/ESM certificate for eligible full-fee refund.
- Treat final submission as final. A submitted application cannot be edited; if resubmitted, the latest application with timely fee payment is the one considered. Preserve registration number, application print, fee acknowledgement and your email address.
- Use only official portal access: apply from ISRO's URSC 04/2026 vacancy page. The official recruitment entry says that the online link is activated at 17:00 on 24 October. A random pre-activation URL, Telegram link or unverified form is not a substitute. No physical application is accepted.
Government/PSU/autonomous-body employees need employer permission and the original NOC at skill test, even if employed/changed employment after applying. No original NOC at this stage can cancel candidature and travel allowance. The authority uses the registered email for future screening/call-letter communications, may carry out biometrics, and may examine eligibility at any stage.
🧾 Centre, document, travel and posting distinctions
Written test may be computer-based or offline in Bengaluru or other cities across India selected by URSC; a city list, date and shift have NOT been released. Skill Test is explicitly in Bengaluru only. Eligible outstation candidates admitted to skill test after document verification may receive lowest eligible second-class/sleeper rail or non-AC bus equivalent fare (per stated minimum), against proof; that is not a blanket reimbursement for CBT travel.
The advertised employer is URSC Bengaluru; MCF Hassan slots are separately identified for codes 03/04/11, and the two Staff Car Driver seats are identified for DoS rather than an invented Bengaluru-only working address. Appointees can be posted to another ISRO/DoS centre anywhere in India as necessary and may work 24-hour shifts. Residence in Karnataka is NOT stated as a universal condition of eligibility. The programme does not guarantee continued posting at any one listed centre.
📚 The exact recruitment lifecycle—what exists and what must wait for official publication
| Phase | Currently supported by 24-Oct signed notice | Event that needs a future official release |
|---|---|---|
| Notification / register | 61 seats, 11 post codes, opening/closing times, eligibility date | Corrected vacancy/extension, only if notified later |
| Preliminary screening | Based on academic information and other online application parameters | Actual screened-in list, if one is published |
| Written CBT / trade test | Complete format and pass rules stated; driver topic syllabus stated | Exam date, venue, admit card, final question paper |
| Post-test evaluation | Written marks, tie-breakers and 1:5 / 1:10 ratios | Actual score/shortlist |
| Skill and original verification | Qualifying tests and documentation specified; Bengaluru venue | Actual individual skill invitation and schedule |

| Results, cutoffs, joining | Selection scheme indicated | Genuine result/selection panel, merit cutoff, offers and joining notices |
No pre-created admit-card, answer-key, result or cutoff item should be inferred merely from a stage being described. A fresh official update under URSC:04:2026 will belong to this same recruitment identity; it must not become a second duplicate job. Official corrections and candidate-specific communications should be tracked against the same post codes.
✅ A targeted decision checklist
- Technician applicant: Is your specific NCVT trade one of the accepted code-specific certificates? Have you already passed both SSC and NCVT trade qualification by 13 November? Have you understood −0.33 versus the driver exam's −0.25?
- Driver applicant: Can you document the full qualifying post-licence, full-time driving period and, for HVD, three heavy-vehicle years within five total? Are employer registration, licence and badge conditions demonstrable?
- Reservation applicant: Does your particular code offer the vertical category for which age/pass-mark relaxation is requested? Do not add PwBD/ESM horizontal allocations to the seat count.
- Every applicant: Budget ₹500 now per application, maintain bank details for conditional refund, upload compliant photo/signature, use an email address checked daily, and retain payment proof. For correction of URSC-specific conditions ask cbt@ursc.gov.in; watch the ISRO careers listing for the next genuine notice.

Five years total post-licence driving experience, including at least three in heavy vehicles. Level 2 basic pay starts at ₹19,900 monthly, plus allowances subject to rules. Part A and B–D combined have separate passing thresholds; a high total cannot compensate for failure in either block. Candidate risk: Proof of full-time years AFTER the licence date can disqualify an otherwise experienced driver.

Upload verification and preliminary screening
Photograph and signature size/format, valid NCVT trade/secondary certificate, driving licence and dated employer experience (driver posts), caste/PwBD/ESM evidence as relevant. Mere minimum qualification does not automatically grant a written-test call.
Written examination / CBT — Technician-B
Technician codes 01–08: curriculum-based 80 MCQs over 90 minutes, +1/−0.33. UR benchmark 32/80 and reserved-category 24/80 only where advertised against that vertical reservation; examination date and centre are not published.
Written examination / CBT — Drivers
Codes 09–11: 100 MCQs over 120 minutes, +1/−0.25. Section A Motor Vehicles Act (50); B basic English (15); C arithmetic (15); D GK/current affairs (20). Part A and B+C+D each need 50% pass, subject to official 25% relaxation for eligible reserved-post applicants. No date announced.
Published scheme: written-test marks and tie resolution
Technician: written test scores and NCVT notified qualification scores act in tie checks; where both tied, valid NAC marks get preference. Drivers: written mark tie is resolved by notified qualification academic score. Neither notice assigns published exam dates or test venue yet.
Skill-test shortlisting after written results
Technician-B: written-test performance 1:5 shortlisted candidates per post, at least ten; Drivers: 1:10 ratio. Ratios do not guarantee availability or actual shortlist headcount, and are not advance merit cut-offs. Official communication awaited.
Hall ticket / call-letter intimation by registered e-mail
OptionalOnly future shortlisted/screened candidates receive written/skill-test hall ticket and call letter via email; no physical letter. No downloadable admit card has been released for this fresh URSC:04:2026 cycle as confirmed in the original advertisement.
Skill-test venue and original-document verification
Skill Test in Bengaluru only. Original certificates, category/EWS 2025–26 income/asset evidence valid FY 2026–27, PwBD/UDID, driving licence and original NOC (government/PSU staff) must be produced; failure may cancel candidature and prevent travelling-allowance claims.
Qualifying trade skill test — Technician-B
Codes 01–08: skill evaluation over 100; 50/100 UR, 40/100 reserved applicants where respective post reserved. Skill is QUALIFYING, not an extra 100 points added to written marks.
Qualifying practical driving test — Driver-A
