J&K Bank Banking Associate 2026 — Single 100-Mark IBPS Online Examination
Recruitment JKB/HR/Rectt/2026-493 · 1,033 J&K domicile vacancies · One objective examination · 60 minutes
The Jammu & Kashmir Bank Banking Associate selection notice prescribes one IBPS-conducted online written examination, not the two online examinations and interview used for the bank's Probationary Officer recruitment. The only officially notified question-paper structure for the J&K Banking Associate post comprises English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. It has 100 questions for 100 marks, with a separate 20-minute clock in each of the three sections. The bank may alter the structure through an official website announcement; the current figures should be read as the schedule printed in its 7 November 2026 advertisement.
Exact official examination structure
Key distinction: the number of questions and marks differ across sections. Both Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability contain 35 questions, but the bank attaches 30 marks to Quantitative Aptitude and 40 marks to Reasoning Ability. Likewise, candidates are not given a single interchangeable pool of 60 minutes: the advertisement explicitly says each test is separately timed for 20 minutes.
Questions per officially named section
📊 Official Banking Associate online test question distribution
The subject totals are 30 + 35 + 35 = 100 questions. The three exam sections have no separate date announced in the detailed advertisement; they belong to one online session.
Marks for the three separately timed tests
📊 Official Banking Associate marks by test
The total marks equal 100, and the two charts answer different questions: one compares number of questions and the other compares marks weight. They are not alternative examination patterns. Since there are no published topic-wise question counts or topic-wise marks, none have been attributed to the bank.
English Language — 30 questions, 30 marks, 20 minutes
The notification names this first test English Language, prescribes 30 objective questions worth 30 marks, and lists its medium as English. It does not attach a bank-approved chapter-wise syllabus, subtopic weightage or compulsory essay component for Banking Associates. In particular, the descriptive essay and comprehension paper in the Probationary Officer mains examination is not part of this announced BA test.
Practical study interpretation, not a separately notified bank syllabus: a candidate can develop accurate reading, sentence comprehension, grammar control, vocabulary in context and speedy interpretation of short English passages because these competencies are broadly relevant to an English-language objective test. These are examples of sensible preparation areas, not an official assertion that any specific passage type, grammar chapter or number of cloze questions will occur. The defensible bank-published information remains the test name, 30/30 allotment and 20-minute time slot.
In the exam, a candidate must treat the separately timed block as its own scoring opportunity. Questions answered incorrectly cost one-quarter of each relevant question's assigned marks, while blanks do not attract that penalty. Candidates must reach an English sectional cutoff, whose precise value will be fixed by IBPS in concurrence with J&K Bank. No official English sectional cutoff figure is supplied in the notice.
Quantitative Aptitude — 35 questions, 30 marks, 20 minutes
This section has 35 questions for 30 maximum marks. Because the question count exceeds the section's total marks, the common assumption that every section gives one mark for every question is unsafe. The bank states only that one-quarter of the mark(s) assigned to an incorrectly answered question will be deducted; the advertisement does not disclose the individual question-weight schedule. Candidates should follow the marks displayed with their actual test instructions rather than substitute an invented per-question mark pattern.
Preparation interpretation rather than an official chapter list: numerical accuracy, percentages, proportional comparisons, reading quantitative tables, data interpretation and speed under separately timed conditions are relevant practice areas. However, the notification does not publish a detailed Quantitative Aptitude subtopic table. An article that labels a list of arithmetic chapters or puzzle-count projections as the bank's official syllabus would go beyond what the document supports. This page therefore distinguishes the official section structure from broadly useful study directions.
For scoring, the candidate must qualify in Quantitative Aptitude individually as well as meeting the applicable total-score threshold. The marks of another section do not automatically excuse a failure to meet the separate Quantitative Aptitude cutoff. A person should compare practice-test performance using the 30-mark section maximum, not the 35-question count.
Reasoning Ability — 35 questions, 40 marks, 20 minutes
Reasoning Ability is given the highest maximum marks of the three tests: 40, despite having the same 35 questions as Quantitative Aptitude. It also receives a 20-minute independent clock. Its share of the whole paper is therefore 40 of the 100 announced marks, compared with 30 each for English and Quantitative Aptitude.
Preparation interpretation, not an official question bank: structured logical analysis, recognition of conditions and relationships, consistency checking and accurate interpretation of objective reasoning questions are helpful study skills. The bank's PDF, however, supplies no detailed numbered Reasoning syllabus, list of mandatory reasoning puzzle models, or split of the 40 marks across subtopics. No such breakdown is presented as official.
A candidate should balance speed and accuracy: wrong answers incur the per-question 25% deduction, and a section-specific qualifying mark applies. Obtaining a good total by overperforming in English or Quantitative Aptitude is insufficient if the actual Reasoning sectional minimum is missed.
Exact penalty for wrong answers and unanswered questions
The bank's rule is: for an incorrect answer to an objective question, deduct one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question in arriving at the corrected score. A question left unanswered incurs no such penalty. The bank does not say that every wrong answer loses a flat one full mark or that the examination has a uniform fixed per-question value across all three sections.
The examination agency may equate corrected scores to take account of small differences in difficulty between sessions. Reported test-wise and total scores use up to two decimal places. This is a scoring-equivalence mechanism, not an announcement of a publicly available fixed normalization multiplier or a guaranteed extra mark for everyone.
Sectional cutoff and aggregate cutoff work together
The notice explicitly states that cutoffs are applied twice: first on the scores in individual tests, and then on the total score. IBPS determines individual sectional cutoffs in concurrence with J&K Bank. The bank states a minimum aggregate qualifying requirement of 40% for General category and 35% for reserved categories, in each case subject to overall merit and available vacancies. It does not fix the final category-wise selection marks or the individual English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability cutoffs in advance.
It would be misleading to promise selection at exactly 40/100 or 35/100. These are minimum qualifying figures, not confirmed merit cutoffs for 1,033 appointments. The advertised vacancy count also does not automatically establish the number of test-takers, category-wise seat counts, or likely cutoff trends.
J&K Bank apprentice extra-mark rule: precise scope
The bank announces 2.5% of the maximum marks in the online examination as extra marks for eligible applicants who have successfully completed apprenticeship training with J&K Bank, alongside one additional year of upper-age relaxation. Since the Banking Associate online paper has 100 maximum marks, the stated percentage corresponds to 2.5 marks on the official 100-mark scale. The advantage belongs to successful trainees of this bank who also meet the J&K domicile and other selection conditions.
This is not a separately held examination section, not a fee waiver, not a bonus for any applicant who happens to have banking experience, and not a statement that a candidate's raw score is multiplied by 1.025. The PDF does not spell out the exact timing of adding those additional marks relative to score equating, individual-section cutoffs or the subsequent merit list; those implementation details must follow the bank's directions when issued.
How the rank and provisional selection are determined
The bank's explicit rule is that marks obtained in the one online examination only will be considered for shortlisting/provisional selection, applying the relevant reservation rules and other eligibility conditions. It does not allocate final merit shares to an interview, group discussion or separate written mains paper for Banking Associates. Where the scores are tied, the older candidate is placed ahead, based on the date of birth.
Identity, graduation, J&K domicile, category and apprenticeship documents remain subject to bank verification. An applicant can score well but still lose candidature if degree completion, J&K domicile, category certificate, biometric/identity checks or other declared conditions fail. The bank may also investigate unusually similar response patterns, unfair means or discrepancy between submitted information and original papers.
Exam city preferences and reporting conditions
The candidate must provide six preferred examination cities, including at least three outside J&K UT. The notice's within-J&K list comprises Pulwama, Jammu, Srinagar, Baramulla and Samba. The outside-J&K list includes Delhi NCR, Patiala, Mohali, Phagwara, Amritsar, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Bengaluru and Ludhiana, with other centres possible if required. The bank has discretion to allot a different centre and ordinarily will not entertain changes to the venue/date/session later. Applicants bear their own examination travel cost.
The one-hour paper does not mean one hour on the premises: the notice says candidates may need approximately four hours at the venue for document review, login and other formalities. Late arrival after the reporting time printed on the call letter can bar admission. Examinations use the call-letter venue, not merely the city selected in the application.
Call letter, ID and photo rules for examination day
Examination call letters are to be accessed through the bank's official website when released. The bank asks candidates to log in with the relevant registration/roll number and password/date of birth; no physical call letter is promised by post. Candidates should bring a printed call letter, the specified original photo identity and its photocopy, with matching names, as well as the required recent photograph and any facility-specific certificates.
Valid photo IDs listed in the advertisement include PAN, passport, permanent driving licence, voter card, Aadhaar/e-Aadhaar, photographic bank passbook and specified official employee/other photo identity. Ration cards and learner's driving licences are not accepted. A mismatched candidate name or missing original ID can bar entry. Candidates who legally changed names should bring the specified original supporting instrument.
Applicants needing a scribe or compensatory time should arrange authorization at online registration and present the prescribed medical certificate or undertaking if required. The bank's annexures provide disability certificates and Appendix I/II forms for persons with writing limitations and scribes. Eligibility and the 20 minutes per hour concession are governed by the specific category and government instructions, not by a universal choice available to every candidate.
What the bank has and has not published
The 7 November 2026 PDF gives the exact three-section scheme, one-quarter negative-mark rule, individual and total cutoff process, score-equating approach, apprenticeship concession, exam-city choice requirements and proof/identity instructions. It does not provide a separate detailed chapter-wise syllabus for each paper, an official fixed sectional qualifying mark, a question-by-question weight table, a confirmed exam date, call-letter release date, final cutoff or answer key publication date.
