J&K Bank Banking Associate Recruitment 2026 — 1,033 Posts for Jammu & Kashmir Domiciles
Notification JKB/HR/Rectt/2026-493 · Issued 7 November 2026 · Online registration and payment 7–26 November 2026
Jammu & Kashmir Bank Limited has advertised 1,033 Banking Associate appointments for eligible domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Applications are submitted through the bank's official Careers section, and the notified online examination will be conducted by IBPS. The bank's Corporate Headquarters is at M.A. Road, Srinagar. The opportunity is not an all-India open-domicile recruitment: the advertisement explicitly restricts applications to J&K UT domiciles.
For an applicant deciding whether to register, five conditions deserve attention before paying the fee. Graduation must already have been completed by 26 November 2026; the normal age interval is 20–30 years on 1 January 2026, subject to notified relaxations; selection relies on a single 100-mark online examination, not a Probationary Officer mains paper or interview; the starting basic pay is ₹24,050; and successful appointees face both a six-month ₹1 lakh service bond and an independent five-year restriction on transfers outside their initially allotted zone.
The bank has separately advertised Probationary Officer positions and Ladakh-domicile Banking Associates. Their vacancy figures, geographic eligibility, selection stages and concession rules must not be mixed into this J&K Banking Associate notice, 2026-493.
Recruitment facts at a glance
Vacancy position: one advertised title, 1,033 seats
The notification announces 1,033 Banking Associate vacancies. It does not provide a numerical list showing how many of those 1,033 seats fall into each SC, ST, OBC, ALC/IB, RBA or EWS category. Instead, the bank identifies the reservation framework it will follow. Thus the notified percentages below are policy rates, not a published seat-wise vacancy breakup. Multiplying 1,033 by these percentages and rounding to whole seats would produce a roster the bank has not announced.
One applicant is applying for the Banking Associate post, not for a separate vacancy named after each reservation class or each zone. The bank will implement reservation rules and its roster at selection; the current advertisement alone does not establish an integer vacancy allocation by district, branch, social group or J&K zone. The reserved-category certificate must be valid on the online registration date. The same reservation category entered in the completed registration ordinarily cannot be changed later.
J&K notified vertical reservation rules
The advertisement applies the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Rules, 2005, as amended, and refers to S.O. 176 dated 15 March 2024. It sets out two Scheduled Tribe groupings at 10% each, together forming the notified 20% ST share: one group consists of communities in the existing Scheduled Tribes list, while the other contains the additional communities brought within that list under the 2024 amendment. These are parts of one ST category framework, not two separately advertised posts.
📊 Notified J&K vertical reservation percentages, not individual seat counts
These rates are compared as like-for-like vertical policy percentages. The chart deliberately excludes horizontal reservations, which overlap applicable vertical groups. The remainder of the entire 100% roster, unreserved/open-merit handling and actual rounding rules cannot be reconstructed into reliable category-specific vacancy counts from this notice alone.
Horizontal reservations require separate treatment
The detailed notice prescribes 6% horizontal reservation for Ex-servicemen and 4% horizontal reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), subject to their specific eligibility and post-identification rules. These are not extra jobs to add on top of 1,033. The PwBD reservation is divided across four recognised 1% components: blindness/low vision; deaf/hard of hearing; locomotor disabilities and related identified conditions; and specified intellectual or multiple-disability categories. Exact suitability is governed by the bank's disability identification conditions and the relevant legal guidelines.
The Ex-servicemen horizontal reservation has a further limitation: the advertisement connects it with posts under the stated Level-6E (₹35,900–₹1,13,500) pay-matrix ceiling. Applicants should read this special condition together with their ex-serviceman status and the bank's notified recruitment rules rather than assume that a 6% reservation automatically creates a separate guaranteed number of BA seats. The notice prescribes an ex-serviceman age concession linked to actual Armed Forces service plus three years, subject to a maximum of 48 years.
For PwBD candidates, the stated upper-age concession is 10 years. The bank allows specified cumulative application of a disability concession with the relevant SC/ST or socially and educationally backward-class relaxation, subject to the notice and supporting documents. A disability certificate alone is not a substitute for meeting academic, domicile and any identified-post functional requirements.
Merit selection and unfilled EWS positions
A reserved-category candidate whose own examination score places them in open-category merit may be considered according to the bank's own-merit rule without automatically occupying the corresponding reserved vacancy. A candidate's declared registration category nevertheless remains the one used for processing. The notice provides that any unfilled EWS vacancies will be handled under the applicable J&K reservation rules rather than promising an automatic private carry-forward or separate additional recruitment.
Who can apply: domicile, graduation and proof of eligibility
1. Jammu & Kashmir domicile is not optional
Only domiciles of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir may apply under this specific advertisement. The selected applicant must produce a domicile certificate issued by the competent authority when called upon. A residence address, a college record from J&K, a previous job in the region or a Ladakh domicile cannot simply be treated as an equivalent certificate where the recruitment demands J&K UT domicile. The bank can examine original eligibility and identity documents at verification or joining and may cancel candidature if the essential certificate is missing.
This eligibility restriction also matters when choosing the correct link within the bank's Careers section: the banking associate notice for Ladakh has a different domicile condition and legal reservation schedule. Applicants should identify the title Banking Associates — UT of J&K and number 2026-493 before completing payment.
2. A graduation degree in any discipline is acceptable
The bank requires a graduate degree in any discipline from a university recognised by the Government of India, or an equivalent academic qualification recognised by the Central Government/UGC. The applicant must possess a valid marksheet/degree certificate establishing graduation by 26 November 2026, the last registration date. The notice does not require every candidate to have studied banking, business administration, accounting, finance or computers as the sole route to eligibility. It also does not announce a universal minimum graduation percentage as a separate entry condition.
A candidate whose final examination or degree result is still pending by the closing date should not confuse an expected graduation date with a qualification already attained. The bank requires the graduate qualification on the last registration date and can demand supporting proof during document verification.
3. Percentage and CGPA conversion: the bank's exact instruction
The online form asks for the applicant's graduation percentage. The calculation stated by the bank uses marks obtained in all subjects across all semesters/years divided by the maximum obtainable marks across those subjects, multiplied by 100. A university's method for CGPA/OGPA-to-percentage conversion should be followed, and the appropriate university certificate concerning conversion norms may be required. The graduation percentage should be entered to two decimal places.
The bank specifically warns that 59.99% must not be rounded into 60% and 54.99% must not be rounded into 55%. These are calculation examples from the advertisement; they do not mean that the bank has inserted a 60% or 55% general eligibility cutoff for this BA recruitment. Where degree grades or supplementary papers create uncertainty, applicants should establish the correct university-issued conversion or marks statement before submitting their final registration.
4. Age is measured on 1 January, not on the closing date
The normal eligible age is 20–30 years as on 1 January 2026. The bank gives the exact date-of-birth window: born not earlier than 1 January 1996 and not later than 1 January 2006, with both boundaries included. Applicable reserved-category, Ex-servicemen, disability and bank-apprentice relaxations can extend the ordinary upper bound under the notice. The reference date for age remains 1 January 2026; it is not replaced by 7 or 26 November 2026.
Applicants should not combine concessions from categories they do not actually belong to. In particular, the apprentice concession is additional only for a person who successfully completed the bank's own apprenticeship training and meets this J&K domicile requirement.
A distinct advantage for successful J&K Bank apprentices
The bank expressly awards two benefits to eligible applicants who successfully completed apprenticeship training with J&K Bank and are domiciles of Jammu & Kashmir UT. The first is one additional year of age relaxation, on top of an otherwise applicable category concession. The second is additional marks equal to 2.5% of the maximum marks in the online examination.
The stated Banking Associate examination has a maximum of 100 marks, so the advertised 2.5%-of-maximum figure corresponds arithmetically to 2.5 marks on that 100-mark scale. This is a bank-declared preferential benefit; it should not be described as a separately scheduled test, a 2.5% increase to every candidate's obtained score, or a universal advantage for apprentices trained at unrelated organisations. The notice does not spell out at which internal stage of score equating or cutoff processing the bank will apply these additional marks, so that sequencing should not be invented.
Applicants seeking the benefit should preserve their successful J&K Bank apprenticeship completion certificate and upload it where the registration process asks for it. The existence of apprenticeship preference does not waive the graduate-degree, domicile, identity, category-certificate or written-exam requirements.
Selection: only one IBPS online written examination
For this Banking Associate advertisement, selection is based on one Online Objective Examination conducted by IBPS, subject to required score thresholds, notified reservations and verification of identity/eligibility. There is no separately notified PO-style Prelims→Mains sequence, descriptive paper or interview for Banking Associates. Do not substitute another bank's clerical exam stages for this advertisement.
The bank notifies 100 questions, 100 maximum marks and 60 minutes, with three individually timed 20-minute sections. The sections are English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. The number of questions and the marks weight are not the same for every subject: Quantitative Aptitude has 35 questions for 30 marks, while Reasoning Ability has 35 questions for 40 marks.
Official marks allocation by section
📊 Banking Associate subject-wise marks in the 100-mark online examination
The three values sum to 100 marks, making this a genuine parts-of-the-whole chart. It describes the marks allocation, not the distribution of candidates, cutoff marks, safe scores, or separately announced qualifying marks for each section.
Sectional cutoffs and aggregate minima: both apply
A candidate must clear each of the three individual test cutoffs, which will be determined by IBPS in concurrence with J&K Bank, and meet the bank's applicable aggregate conditions. The bank expressly says that cutoffs operate first on individual tests and then on the total score. The minimum aggregate qualifying percentage is 40% for General category applicants and 35% for reserved-category applicants, in both cases subject to overall merit. Crossing the bare percentage does not guarantee an appointment when the competition and category-wise vacancy roster are taken into account.
📊 Notified minimum aggregate qualifying percentages, not predicted selection cutoffs
The bank has not announced fixed individual-section cutoff marks, an actual final 2026 selection cutoff, a number of attempts, or a separate interview threshold for this BA examination. The qualifying percentages should never be presented as if they were the final merit cutoffs after the applicant pool has been tested.
Wrong-answer penalty, score equating and ties
Each incorrect objective response incurs a deduction of one-quarter of the marks assigned to that question. An unanswered question attracts no wrong-answer penalty. This means the adjustment is linked to each question's allotted marks; it is not a blanket deduction of one full mark per error. The notice explains that scores may be equated across sessions to compensate for modest variations in difficulty and that subject and overall scores are reported to two decimal places.
The online written examination score alone forms the merit basis for provisional selection, subject to the announced reservation and appointment criteria. Where two or more candidates obtain the same score, the bank says the older candidate ranks ahead based on date of birth. The bank also reserves the right to investigate unusually similar response patterns and cancel invalid results. There is no bank-announced interview weightage to add to this BA final score.
Application charges: two notified amounts before GST
Fees are paid online between 7 and 26 November 2026. The bank publishes two prices, both excluding GST and any transaction charges assessed by payment providers. Reduced charges apply to the specifically named categories; being an EWS candidate alone is not expressly included in the discounted list.
📊 Application charges by the bank's two notified fee bands, excluding GST
Fee payment is a condition of completed registration. Entering personal particulars and saving the form alone does not finish the process. The candidate should wait for the bank's payment gateway confirmation, preserve the generated e-receipt, and retain the completed application printout. The notice lists debit cards, credit cards, internet banking, IMPS, cash cards and mobile wallets among payment modes. Where the e-receipt is not generated, the notice treats this as a payment-failure signal and directs the applicant to log in again and repeat the necessary payment process. The advertisement specifies a last date but does not give a separate exact final-hour cutoff; no particular closing clock time should be assumed from the PDF.
Basic pay, six-month probation and two distinct commitments
The advertised starting basic pay is ₹24,050 per month, with other perks applicable to the Banking Associate cadre. The bank prints the following incremental basic-pay scale:
₹24,050–1,340/3–28,070–1,650/3–33,020–2,000/4–41,020–2,340/7–57,400–4,400/1–61,800–2,680–64,480.
The first figure is entry-level basic pay, while ₹64,480 is the upper figure of the printed scale; it is not a promised starting salary. The notice does not quantify a particular person's gross monthly salary, city-specific allowances, tax deductions, in-hand remuneration or year-one CTC, so those numbers should not be invented.
Initial probation: six months, possible three-month extension
A newly appointed Banking Associate initially serves six months on probation. The designated appraising authority reviews the officer's work, performance and conduct and submits its report to the bank's Human Resources Vertical. Where the Competent Authority has reason to believe that probation has not been satisfactorily completed, it may extend the probation by not more than three months. Unsatisfactory work and conduct even during that extension may lead to termination of service under the notice's terms.
₹1 lakh bond: the minimum six-month service period
At joining, the selected candidate must execute a ₹1,00,000 bond to serve the bank for a minimum of six months. The notice says the bank may invoke the bond if the appointee resigns before the six months from the date of joining have elapsed. The bond is not the same as a refundable application fee, a paid security deposit to be remitted with the online form, or a promise that every worker's net earnings will equal the bond amount.
Five-year initial-zone rule: independent of the bond
The bank imposes an additional restriction: selected Banking Associates must remain in the branches/offices of their initially allotted zone for a minimum of five years. Transfer outside the originally allotted zone is not permitted, on any ground stated in the announcement, before the five-year term has been completed. This five-year placement condition continues independently of the six-month service bond and the probation period. The advertisement does not provide a named first branch, town-wise BA roster or employee-choice guarantee for a particular J&K posting.
Joining must take place within 45 days
The stated joining window for selected candidates is capped at 45 days. This period belongs to the appointment/joining process after selection, not to the time between the online application and written exam. Successful provisional selection remains subject to document verification, suitability and the bank's appointment decision; it is not an automatic permanent appointment merely because someone has crossed the exam threshold.
Examination centre choices: six preferences, three outside J&K
The application requires a preference list of six examination centres, of which at least three must be outside the Union Territory of J&K. The advertisement lists the following potential centres; final allocation and the reporting venue are communicated in the actual call letter. Applicants should select centres they can realistically reach: the bank may allot another centre, cancel/add venues or decline requests for later changes.
The test itself lasts 60 minutes, but the bank cautions that a candidate may need to remain at the venue for about four hours, allowing for identity checks, document collection, login and other formalities. Reporting after the time on the call letter can lead to denial of entry. No candidate should treat the examination city list as an announcement of an exact examination date.
Complete online application process
Before opening the registration form
Keep the recognised graduation result, date-of-birth proof, J&K domicile certificate, personal contact details and applicable reservation evidence available. A valid personal email address and mobile number must be kept active during the entire recruitment process. Registration requires a clear photograph, signature, thumb impression and a declaration in the candidate's handwriting in the prescribed format. Applicants claiming J&K Bank apprenticeship benefits should also have the successful apprenticeship completion certificate ready.
The bank's procedure is: visit https://jkb.bank.in/, go to Careers, find the Banking Associates — UT of J&K / Notification 2026-493 announcement, choose Apply Online, complete New Registration, save the provisional registration credentials, fill and verify the application, upload the specified files, use the preview stage, finish Complete Registration, then complete Payment and final Submit. The bank allows draft progress through Save and Next, but warns that no change will be entertained after final registration; names and other particulars must match supporting certificates and the accepted identity proof.
Image and document specifications taken from the notice
The handwritten declaration is a personal accuracy undertaking, not a recommendation letter. The applicant should reproduce the bank's prescribed declaration themselves; typing it or having another person write it can invalidate the application, subject to the specific accommodation described for eligible visually impaired applicants. A signature or declaration entirely in capital letters is not accepted under the notice. The photograph and signature must remain recognisable and consistent with the later call letter and examination records.
Supporting certificates the bank lists for upload
The notice names the Class X certificate (marksheet/passing certificate), graduation certificate or consolidated marksheet, and, if applicable, J&K Bank apprenticeship completion certificate, Ex-servicemen certificate, prescribed disability certificate, and certificate establishing difficulty in writing when a scribe or related accommodation is requested. It directs applicants to provide such supporting documents in PDF format, not in the image format used for the photograph and signature. Applicants should check the application portal's current list carefully; eligible categories may require additional records.
Identity, disability accommodation and original verification
A valid photo identity bearing the same name as the call letter is required for examination admission, alongside the call letter and a photocopy of the original proof. The bank provides examples including PAN card, passport, permanent driving licence, voter card, photo bank passbook, Aadhaar/e-Aadhaar and other specified official photo IDs. The notice expressly excludes ration cards and learner's driving licences as valid examination IDs. An applicant whose name legally changed should carry the relevant original Gazette notification or marriage certificate.
For PwBD applicants, the advertisement recognises specified visual, hearing, locomotor, intellectual and multiple disabilities with a qualifying certificate; it explains bank/UDID verification and potentially a further medical assessment. The definition of benchmark disability generally requires the prescribed threshold and competent-authority certification. Disability eligibility is conditional on the relevant identified post and the notice; it is not established solely by choosing PwBD in the application form.
Scribe and extra-time conditions
Eligible applicants needing a scribe or compensatory time must indicate this during online registration; the bank warns that system-based extra time cannot simply be granted later to candidates who did not register for it. Where the cited guideline applies, the candidate generally arranges their own scribe; the scribe must meet the relevant qualification and declaration requirements and cannot act for multiple candidates in the same recruitment. Certain persons with writing limitations must supply the government medical authority's prescribed certificate. The notice provides for 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour of examination, or the separately advised accommodation, for the specified qualifying disability circumstances.
The final seven pages of the 29-page PDF include the prescribed disability certificate forms and Appendix I / Appendix II for certification of writing limitations and the undertaking involving a scribe. Those annexures are practical paperwork, not extra examination papers; candidates claiming these facilities should use the bank's supplied formats, not an unofficial generic certificate invented for another recruitment.
Documents to present at joining
Subject to applicability, the bank lists the final application printout, date-of-birth evidence, original photo ID, graduation marksheets/certificates, J&K domicile, competent-authority category certificate, EWS income-and-assets certificate, PwBD/medical evidence, and scribe papers where relevant. A government/PSU/financial-institution employee must produce the original employer No Objection Certificate (NOC) as prescribed. Ex-servicemen have further service/discharge and pension/rank proof obligations. The documents are checked by J&K Bank; a provisional examination result by itself does not remove the requirement for valid records.
The notice also cautions that a disability certificate marked 'likely to improve' under specified temporary categories may be ineligible for the reservation benefit under the cited policy, while other certified categories are assessed under the corresponding legal criteria. Candidates should not convert these nuanced rules into an assumption that all disabilities qualify on equal terms for each identified post.
Reserve list, tie-breaking and final selection are not guaranteed appointments
After the written exam, the bank may draw a reserve list of up to 50% of the notified vacancies in each category, subject to the availability of candidates. The bank specifies that this list will remain valid for one year from publication of the selection list or until the next recruitment notification, whichever occurs earlier. It also clearly states that a place on this reserve list does not guarantee appointment if no relevant vacancies arise during its validity; expiry need not be separately announced. The reserve list is not an additional 50% of seats already sanctioned in this notice.
If two candidates obtain the same score, the older person is ranked ahead under the bank's birth-date tie-breaking policy. The bank retains authority to verify documents, reject false or inconsistent claims, examine abnormal response similarity, order a re-examination in the circumstances it specifies and cancel candidature for unfair practices. A valid exam result must be followed by satisfactory eligibility, identity and appointment formalities.
What is still to be announced
The PDF does not set an exact examination date, call-letter release date, final cutoff, result-publication date or candidate's first branch. These stages will be communicated through the authorised bank website and registered email/SMS. A successful applicant should preserve their registration details, fee e-receipt and the same photograph used at registration, and check the bank's official Careers announcements instead of treating an unverified forecast as a scheduled event.
