IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Technical Officer Recruitment 2026 — 11 Level-10 Posts Across Nine Specialisms
Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad | Advertisement 411002/7/2026-NFR | Issued 5 November 2026 | Online applications close 20 December 2026 at 23:59 IST
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has advertised eleven regular Group-A, Pay Level-10 Technical Officer posts through direct recruitment. The announcement distributes them among Chemistry and Chemical Biology, the Central Research Facility, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics and a distinct Fire Safety position. These are not interchangeable seats: the qualifying discipline, permitted academic alternatives, experience pathway and reservation differ. The application portal is the Institute's Non-Faculty Recruitment module, and the advertised closing time is 11:59 PM on 20 December 2026.
The Institute's written notice names Presentation and Interview as the basis of final selection for shortlisted applicants. It also reserves the right to hold a written, computer or other test if required under its Recruitment Rules. A previous year's test format is not an announced format for this recruitment. No date, question-paper marks, compulsory negative marking, subject-wise examination blueprint, admit-card release or result date is published in this advertisement.

The listed monthly amounts are the pay-matrix range for the advertised grade, not a promise of total remuneration. The notice does not calculate HRA, gross or net salary for a newly selected candidate. Likewise, Pay Level 7 is an eligibility condition for earlier work experience, whereas the appointment itself is at Pay Level 10. Confusing those two levels can produce a serious eligibility mistake.
🥧 Who has the eleven seats? Exact vertical reservation
🥧 Technical Officer reservations — 11 notified places
| Category | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (UR) | 6 |
| Other Backward Classes — Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) | 2 |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 1 |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 1 |
| Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 1 |
Total: 11. The advertised roster also earmarks one of these eleven positions horizontally for an eligible person with a benchmark disability. This is not a twelfth post. The notice lists low vision, hard of hearing and specified locomotor disabilities, including the listed conditions, as suitable for the Technical Officer posts. Candidate eligibility for the horizontal reservation must be supported by the relevant disability certificate.
The UR seats are not shorthand for male-only or non-reserved-category-only applications; applicants meeting applicable law and selection conditions may compete in the unreserved roster. The two OBC-NCL seats occur in the Central Research Facility and Physics; the EWS seat occurs in Electrical Engineering; the SC seat in Electronics; and the ST seat in Mechanical. Individual qualification requirements remain unchanged by reservation.
📊 Nine departments — the actual number of positions
📊 Department-wise Technical Officer seats
| Department or position | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Chemistry and Chemical Biology | 1 |
| Central Research Facility | 1 |
| Civil Engineering | 1 |
| Computer Science and Engineering | 1 |
| Electrical Engineering | 1 |
| Electronics Engineering | 2 |
| Mechanical Engineering | 2 |
| Physics | 1 |
| Technical Officer (Fire Safety) | 1 |
The two Electronics positions consist of UR 1 and SC 1. The two Mechanical positions consist of UR 1 and ST 1. No other department has two seats, and the advertisement does not assign a unique numerical job code to every row. Candidates should identify their department/centre name exactly when selecting the vacancy and uploading proof.
🎓 The degree–experience equation: 55% plus qualifying service
📊 Published experience minima by academic route
| Qualifying academic pathway | Minimum experience in years |
|---|---|
| Relevant M.Tech / M.E. route, where permitted | 2 |
| Relevant M.Sc. / MCA route, where permitted | 4 |
| Relevant four-year engineering bachelor's route, where permitted | 5 |
These are alternative qualifying routes in departments that expressly list them, not three options available in every vacancy. Chemistry, Central Research Facility and Physics specify the relevant Master's-in-Science route requiring four years; they do not expressly add a two-year M.Tech path. A four-year bachelor’s route is offered for the named engineering and Fire Safety fields but not for the three science-Master-only positions.
An applicant cannot use an M.Sc. or MCA to claim the two-year M.Tech threshold, or use a three-year bachelor’s degree for the explicitly four-year engineering degree route. For each alternative, at least 55% in the actual qualifying degree remains necessary. The Institute decides whether a claimed equivalent qualification or work experience satisfies the advertised field and grade.
The pay-scale documentary gate
The notice consistently requires relevant experience in Pay Level 7. If a certificate uses an IDA or other non-Central/CDA pay scale, the applicant must submit an equivalence certificate with the experience evidence. The Institute states plainly that experience lacking this equivalence will not be considered. This is not a demand for a higher salary at appointment; it is documentary proof of the grade/level of the work claimed. Total years alone cannot cure the absence of a required grade or a discipline mismatch.
Applicants should ensure each employer certificate identifies the organisation, position, service period, pay scale and work domain. A descriptive project list can explain relevance, but it must not replace authenticated employer service evidence. The Institute's Scrutiny Committee determines what constitutes relevant experience in the area of the advertised position, and its decision is final under the notice.
Department-specific eligibility and practical distinctions
| Department | Permitted academic routes | Experience | Reservation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chemistry & Chemical Biology | M.Sc./Master's in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry/equivalent | 4 years, Level 7 | UR 1 |
| Central Research Facility | M.Sc./Master's in Zoology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Microbiology/equivalent | 4 years, Level 7 | OBC-NCL 1 |
| Civil Engineering | M.Tech Civil or four-year bachelor's Civil | 2 or 5 years, respectively | UR 1 |
| Computer Science & Engineering | M.Tech CS/allied, four-year engineering CS/allied, or M.Sc. CS/MCA | 2, 5 or 4 years, respectively | UR 1 |
| Electrical Engineering | M.Tech Electrical or four-year bachelor's Electrical | 2 or 5 years | EWS 1 |
| Electronics Engineering | M.Tech/M.E. Electronics/ECE/ETE or four-year bachelor's in the listed fields | 2 or 5 years | UR 1; SC 1 |
| Mechanical Engineering | M.Tech Mechanical in listed specialisations or four-year bachelor's Mechanical | 2 or 5 years | UR 1; ST 1 |
| Physics | Master's degree in Physics/equivalent | 4 years | OBC-NCL 1 |
| Fire Safety | M.Tech/M.E. Fire Engineering/Fire & Safety, four-year bachelor's in these subjects, or M.Sc. Fire & Safety Management | 2, 5 or 4 years | UR 1 |
1. Chemistry and Chemical Biology — Chemistry is a specific subject gate
The Institute asks for a Master's degree in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry or equivalent. A person with an unrelated science master's must not assume eligibility simply because the qualification sits within the science faculty. Four years of experience at the notified level and demonstrable office-application skills are necessary. The application should connect both the qualification and the experience to the claimed chemistry discipline. The Institute has not named particular chemical instruments or laboratory duties in this notice.
2. Central Research Facility — the life-science discipline list is narrow
The single OBC-NCL seat covers an academic route in Zoology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Microbiology or equivalent. Four years of relevant Level-7 experience are required. Because this is a central facility rather than a single teaching department, applicants should carefully document the actual laboratory or research-facility character of their work instead of simply stating that they held an academic post. The notice does not prescribe a list of biological instruments for a practical assessment.
3. Civil Engineering — two different qualification thresholds
A Civil Engineering M.Tech plus two years, or a four-year Civil Engineering degree plus five years, are the published alternatives. The same 55% minimum applies. For candidates whose earlier employment used a different salary structure, the certificate proving equivalence to the required level matters. The final selection will judge shortlisted applicants by Presentation and Interview, not by an announced Civil Engineering written-paper mark scheme.
4. Computer Science and Engineering — three routes, not one broad computing pool
A relevant M.Tech in Computer Science or allied branches requires two years; a four-year CS/allied engineering bachelor's degree requires five; M.Sc. Computer Science or MCA requires four years. This distinction is consequential: an MCA holder cannot reduce the required experience to two years merely because MCA is postgraduate. For an allied-branch engineering qualification, retain the official degree/course record so the Institute can make the equivalence decision. No programming language, CBT syllabus or coding-test date is officially supplied.
5. Electrical Engineering — one EWS vacancy
The one Electrical Engineering position is listed under EWS, not UR. The two entry routes are M.Tech Electrical with two years or four-year Electrical Engineering bachelor's with five years, at 55% and the required experience level. An EWS applicant must use the Government of India certificate standard; the notice specifically requires EWS certificates issued on or after 1 April 2026 and valid by the closing date. No specialist power-system paper or merit score has been notified.
6. Electronics Engineering — two seats, three named branch families
The Electronics vacancy is split UR 1 + SC 1. Accepted named fields are Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, or equivalent. M.Tech/M.E. and four-year bachelor's pathways require two and five years respectively. These are two seats under one departmental heading, not two separate exam notifications. General IT experience is not automatically evidence of Electronics/ECE/ETE-related Level-7 work.
7. Mechanical Engineering — the listed postgraduate specialisations matter
The Mechanical Engineering advertisement explicitly names Machine Design, Thermal Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering, and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in its M.Tech pathway. This list describes permissible postgraduate specialisation areas, not six separate Mechanical posts. A four-year Mechanical Engineering bachelor's degree is the other route. The two vacancies are UR 1 and ST 1; relevant Pay-Level-7 experience must reach two or five years depending on route.
8. Physics — Master's degree plus four years
Physics has one OBC-NCL opening. A Master's degree in Physics or equivalent, minimum 55%, four years' relevant experience in Pay Level 7 and mandatory office-tool proficiency are expressly stated. A B.Tech in an unspecified branch is not an advertised substitute. The OBC-NCL certificate must meet central standards and the date restrictions in the original notice.
9. Technical Officer (Fire Safety) — extra operational experience required
Fire Safety permits M.Tech/M.E. Fire Engineering or Fire & Safety Engineering + two years, four-year bachelor’s in those fields + five years, or M.Sc. Fire & Safety Management/equivalent + four years, with 55% and relevant Level-7 experience. In addition to academic eligibility, page 5 calls for experience in fire-fighting operations, system maintenance, incident/accident reporting and investigation, safety inspections, job-safety analysis, and high-rise building fire/safety work. The separate desirable criteria include exposure in government or reputable industry, occupational health and safety, construction safety and relevant computer course/IT background. Desirable advantages must not be misread as universal compulsory degrees or a different number of vacancies.
Fire Safety therefore requires the most careful experience dossier of the nine entries: a certificate only saying 'Safety Officer' may be insufficient to demonstrate the actual fire-system and high-rise experience described. Supporting records of work performed can help explain relevance, subject to official scrutiny. This recruitment has no announced fire drill/trade-test date or test marks.
🗂️ Reservation and age documents: dates that can reject an otherwise qualified application
For SC, ST, EWS and OBC-NCL claims, the notice requires the prescribed Government of India certificate format issued by the competent authority before the closing date. In particular, EWS/OBC-NCL certificates must be issued on or after 1 April 2026. The applicable central-category lists govern OBC-NCL, SC and ST reservation at IIT (ISM). A PwBD claimant must furnish the appropriate benchmark-disability certificate.
The general upper age is 40 years on 20 December 2026, the stated cutoff for age, qualifications and experience. Reserved-category age relaxation follows the Institute's cited Government of India norms against applicable reserved vacancies. An applicant who has served IIT (ISM) or another IIT/NIT/CFTI for at least three years in a regular post may receive up to five years' age relaxation; the notification expressly excludes employees of private organisations from this particular relaxation. Government employees, ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates have other relevant rules as specified, but the notice does not publish one fixed universal relaxation table for every possible applicant combination.
Do not automatically add two different relaxations or use the 40-year ceiling as if it applies identically after category-based concessions. The Institute will test eligibility against the applicable rules and its stated cutoff.
💳 Application charges and payment
The non-refundable online fee is ₹1,000 for non-exempt applicants. SC, ST, PwD, Ex-Servicemen and female applicants are exempt under the printed notice. An OBC-NCL or EWS applicant does not receive an exemption solely for that status, unless another expressly exempt condition applies. Keep a payment confirmation if you pay; an incomplete application or missing supporting documents can be rejected.
The Institute advises applicants not to delay until the deadline because problems such as internet connectivity do not extend the notified cut-off automatically.
📝 Two consolidated evidence files — an easily missed application requirement
The advertisement specifically instructs candidates to upload one combined PDF containing all educational-qualification evidence and one combined PDF containing all experience certificates. It does not instruct applicants to upload each employer certificate as an unrelated independent document. Within the education collection, ensure the relevant qualifying degree and percentage are clear. Within the experience collection, ensure the period, actual relevant work and Pay Level-7/equivalence evidence are legible.
For government, state/UT, autonomous-body or PSU applicants, the employer's No Objection Certificate (NOC) is required. The Institute permits an application without the NOC to be treated as an advance copy, but the NOC must be presented at Interview; otherwise the candidature may not be considered. That distinction allows timely online registration, but does not waive the NOC condition.
An applicant must use accurate active phone and email details. The notice says submitted particulars are treated as final and subsequent changes are not entertained. Full past employment history must also be disclosed, including relevant disciplinary, charge-sheet and vigilance matters; suppression may invite action before or after appointment. The Institute can transfer a selected candidate among its own departments or sections, so the advertised departmental vacancy is not a contractual guarantee of being stationed in one internal section indefinitely.
🎙️ How the selection actually works
- Screening: essential education, qualifying marks, experience and documentation are checked; numbers may be limited by the Institute if many apply.
- Optional assessment: a written, computer or other test may be conducted only if the Institute decides under its Recruitment Rules. No published paper, marks, negative marking or date is attached to this notification.
- Presentation and Interview: the published criterion for final selection of shortlisted applicants is performance before the Selection Committee. It may be held online at the Institute's discretion.
- Document and NOC verification: the Institute may reject an applicant found ineligible even if a provisional registration, admit card or call letter has been issued. Original certificates, appropriate category documents, equivalence evidence and employer NOC must withstand scrutiny.
A previous recruitment cycle's written/skill-test pattern does not become the official syllabus of Advertisement 411002/7/2026-NFR. Separate recruitment notifications for internal promotion through LDCE also do not govern these eleven direct-recruitment seats.
Presentation preparation that respects the actual notice
There is no prescribed topic or duration for the presentation. A sensible candidate-led approach is to choose one real, documentable technical problem appropriate to the advertised discipline, identify the challenge and constraints, explain the applicant's own intervention, show the outcome and distinguish personal work from team work. In a laboratory context this might be evidence of sample quality or measurement reproducibility; in Electrical/Mechanical work it may concern reliability, safety or troubleshooting; in Fire Safety a credible incident-analysis record will be especially pertinent. These are editorial preparation suggestions, not an Institute-issued question list.
The selection will not be based on a fabricated provisional cutoff or an assumed numerical interview weightage. Any additional assessment details must come through a later official notice.
🚆 Travel assistance for shortlisted applicants
For applicants actually shortlisted for Presentation and Interview, the notice allows reimbursement of to-and-fro rail fare by the shortest route, limited to AC-3 tier and booked directly from IRCTC, against the travel claim and tickets. This is not a general travel allowance for every applicant or every preliminary test. The Institute may conduct Presentation and Interview online, in which case the actual reporting arrangement will depend on the official communication.

Reading official documents without making common mistakes
Distinguish five independent questions
First ask which one of the nine departmental entries is being applied for; next ask whether the exact degree title and discipline fit one of its alternatives; third determine whether that same alternative requires two, four or five qualifying years; fourth establish that the employment was genuinely in the area of that post and at Pay Level 7 or an accepted equivalent; finally establish the correct age, category certificate, NOC and fee position at the closing date. A positive answer to one question does not settle the others. This five-part screen is especially important for Computer Science/MCA candidates, multi-specialisation Mechanical applicants and the Fire Safety position with extra practical experience.
Experience examples that illustrate the rule (not individual eligibility rulings)
| Applicant's claimed route | Why the distinction matters |
|---|---|
| Civil M.Tech with two years relevant Level-7 work | Matches the notice's M.Tech experience duration; degree discipline, marks and full documentation still need checking |
| Civil four-year bachelor’s with two years | Does not meet that bachelor's route's required five years |
| MCA with four relevant Level-7 years for CSE | The MCA route has a four-year threshold, separate from the M.Tech two-year route |
| MCA with two years for CSE | Does not qualify simply by borrowing M.Tech's two-year threshold |
| Physics MSc with five years of unrelated work | Total years alone do not prove relevant Pay-Level-7 experience |
| Fire Safety degree and five years of general office administration | Duration alone does not demonstrate the additional fire-operations and high-rise safety experience |
These examples are interpretive comparisons of the printed conditions, not pre-approval or rejection of any particular person's application. An applicant's true degree, experience content, pay-scale evidence and reservation documents remain decisive.
Document organisation for candidates with multiple positions or employers
For every chosen departmental application, verify the published selection entry and the portal's own document instructions. Combine educational proof into one PDF and experience proof into another, with chronological ordering and readable evidence of service/grade. An equivalence certificate is a particularly high-value supporting item when the employer has a different salary system. Grouping certificates does not turn unverifiable time into qualifying service; provide genuine employer-issued dates and authentic pay details. The notice does not prescribe a different written test by department yet, so there is no reliable basis for constructing exam-wise answer keys or cutoff projections.
✅ Before pressing Submit
Ensure that the department/position selected matches the exact academic route; confirm 55% or better, proper Level-7 experience evidence and Pay Equivalence Certificate if required; upload the two grouped proof PDFs, current category certificate where claimed and a correct fee payment or exemption claim; and settle the employer-NOC path in time for Interview. Check all entered information against originals because the submitted details are final. Complete the process by 20 December at 23:59 IST.

Technical Officer — Chemistry and Chemical Biology — Department-specific Eligibility and Selection Analysis
Vacancies: 1 | Category: UR 1 | Group-A Level 10: ₹56,100–₹1,77,500 | Upper age 40 years before applicable concessions | Closing date 20 December 2026
Published degree routes, as alternatives
Master of Science or equivalent in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry — 4 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7. Each route requires at least 55% marks in its qualifying degree. The equivalent-qualification decision belongs to the Institute; the formal certificate must identify the actual degree and discipline.
The published subject range is Chemistry, Applied Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry—not a blanket invitation for every science master’s degree. The qualifying MSc must carry at least 55% marks, and four years of relevant experience at Pay Level 7 are indispensable.
For evidence, the degree transcript should make the chemistry specialism clear. An experience certificate should identify the laboratory or chemical-work domain and the Pay Level, not merely an employer name and total service. If the employer follows another pay structure, the equivalence certificate is essential for consideration.
The presence of a Chemistry and Chemical Biology vacancy does not itself establish a particular instrument duty list. A candidate can prepare to explain a documented analytical workflow from personal experience: method selection, sample traceability, quality checks, observation recording and safe interpretation of deviations. Such examples are preparation illustrations, not officially assigned duties.
A coherent presentation could compare an analytical problem, the sample or instrument controls, the observed error or uncertainty and the corrective action supported by records. Avoid claiming expertise in instruments never used; the committee can check whether the four years involved the advertised chemistry area.
Assess your eligibility with an evidence trail, not only a degree name
The four-year period should be easy to reconstruct from employment records: dates of service, position, notified pay grade and the nature of analytical or chemical-science work. The advertised floor of 55% applies to the qualifying Master's degree. If a candidate holds another higher degree, it does not erase the need to demonstrate a degree falling within the stated chemistry fields or an equivalence accepted by the Institute. The original notice does not separately promise preference for a PhD, relax the four-year experience or give a conversion table for CGPA. If marks are in grade-point form, retain the institution's authoritative conversion evidence rather than assigning an assumed percentage.
Discipline-specific questions to resolve before submission
Someone with a general M.Sc. in a neighbouring subject should verify the actual equivalence claim against their curriculum and certificates. An applicant who spent four years in a chemistry laboratory but whose certificate merely says 'employee' faces a different evidentiary problem: the experience must be recognisably relevant and at the required grade. Neither problem is solved by choosing the Chemistry department from the portal menu. The position is one UR seat at the Institute's Dhanbad campus; there is no advertised secondary seat for Applied Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry. Those are qualifying academic subjects, not separately reserved positions.
A presentation should avoid a catalogue of chemicals or instruments and instead demonstrate controlled professional judgment: what the applicant measured, why the method fit the question, how an error or safety issue was investigated, what verification changed, and how the result was recorded. Concrete, attributable records are more credible than a broad claim of 'laboratory management'. This preparation advice does not imply an officially prescribed analytical paper.
Submission priorities for this position
Read the degree route against its own minimum experience; demonstrate relevant service in Pay Level 7 or attach the mandatory pay-equivalence certificate where earlier salary scales differ; provide one PDF for all education evidence and one for experience, including accurate dates and employer-issued papers. All positions also require office-computer proficiency. Candidates who claim a reserved seat must meet the applicable Government of India documentation rules; EWS/OBC-NCL certificates are subject to the 1 April 2026 onward issue-date condition. The selection described by the advertisement is shortlisting, possible separately decided tests, and final Presentation and Interview. No subject-wise written-test scheme has been issued for this specific 2026 recruitment.
- Select the Technical Officer vacancy corresponding exactly to Chemistry and Chemical Biology; the academic subject must match the published discipline.
- Attach proof of one complete eligible qualification/experience route: Master of Science or equivalent in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry + 4 years. Do not combine the shortest duration with another degree.
- Upload one consolidated PDF with all education proof and another consolidated PDF with experience certificates, including pay scale or mandatory equivalence certificate where applicable.
- Provide the prescribed central-category certificate if reserving a seat; EWS/OBC-NCL issue date must be 1 April 2026 or later where claimed.
- Serving Government/PSU/autonomous-body applicants should arrange employer NOC; it is required by interview even if the application is submitted initially as an advance copy.

Published degree routes, as alternatives
Master of Science or equivalent in Zoology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Microbiology — 4 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7. Each route requires at least 55% marks in its qualifying degree. The equivalent-qualification decision belongs to the Institute; the formal certificate must identify the actual degree and discipline.
The Central Research Facility vacancy specifically accepts the four stated life-science fields. A general M.Sc. in an unrelated scientific discipline is not expressly included. The original notice requires four years of relevant Pay-Level-7 experience and office-application proficiency.
Candidates should make the relationship between their degree and actual research-facility work demonstrable through certificates and dated duties. It matters whether the record establishes laboratory assistance, biological research operations or another relevant function at an accepted pay level; the final judgment on relevance rests with the Institute.
A shared research facility serves varied users, so examples of reproducibility, safe sample handling, documentation and cross-team coordination can help illustrate the applicant’s own experience. The notice does not list mandatory operating instruments or name a specific research-facility station.
Present one verifiable project: the biological sample/problem, the procedure the applicant actually handled, contamination or quality controls, reporting, incident escalation and improvement measurable from the record. This is a suggested way to organise evidence, not an announced test syllabus.
The difference between a facility vacancy and a general life-science vacancy
This is one OBC-NCL position in the Central Research Facility, not a pooled recruitment for every department. The four academic fields are specifically Zoology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Microbiology. The experience condition refers to relevant work at the specified grade, not merely four academic years after graduation. Candidates whose work combines life sciences with instrumentation should establish the link to a named qualifying life-science subject and provide employer-confirmed experience. The notice does not say that a diploma in laboratory technology, a generic B.Sc., or an unrelated Master's can replace the specified Master's requirement.
For reservation, an OBC certificate under a state-specific list is not automatically the same as the valid Central Government OBC-NCL evidence required here. The Institute invokes central lists and requires OBC-NCL/EWS certificates issued on or after 1 April 2026. The disability reservation is only one horizontal position across the entire Technical Officer recruitment; it must not be added to this OBC seat as an extra vacancy.
A relevant presentation can use the applicant's own record to demonstrate reliable shared-facility practice: requests received, sample conditions, measurement or analysis quality, traceability, turnaround issues, incident handling, and what improved. No particular instrument name, external accreditation or round-the-clock shift roster is mandated in the advertisement, so avoid presenting personal assumptions as recruitment conditions.
Vacancies: 1 | Category: UR 1 | Group-A Level 10: ₹56,100–₹1,77,500 | Upper age 40 years before applicable concessions | Closing date 20 December 2026
Published degree routes, as alternatives
M.Tech or equivalent in Civil Engineering — 2 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7; Four-year Bachelor of Engineering/Technology or equivalent in Civil Engineering — 5 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7. Each route requires at least 55% marks in its qualifying degree. The equivalent-qualification decision belongs to the Institute; the formal certificate must identify the actual degree and discipline.
Civil Engineering has two expressly alternative entry routes. A relevant M.Tech with 55% marks needs two years at Pay Level 7; a four-year Civil Engineering bachelor’s degree with 55% needs five years at the stated level. Do not apply the two-year relaxation to a bachelor’s-only applicant.
The experience proof needs to separate qualifying work by period and demonstrate the connection to Civil Engineering. Non-Central pay scales must be supported by salary-scale equivalence evidence. The notice does not permit replacing the specific Civil Engineering qualification simply with long generic technical employment.
For presentation preparation, evidence-backed examples of a real construction, testing or maintenance challenge may be useful: design or measurement basis, how quality was checked, an encountered deviation and the corrective record. The advertisement, however, does not allocate a named building, lab or project to this post.
Explain one actual civil-engineering case with clear objectives, plans or standards used, materials or site constraints, tests and what the outcome shows. Keep any claim of structural approval, design sign-off or statutory responsibility limited to duties genuinely performed.
Two different timelines for candidates holding different civil degrees
For the M.Tech route, the minimum is two relevant years at the stated level; for the four-year bachelor's route, it is five. A candidate with a four-year degree and three relevant years has not met the advertised five-year route simply because another candidate with M.Tech needs two. Conversely, a civil M.Tech applicant need not manufacture an extra three years to satisfy the bachelor-route duration if the full M.Tech route is valid. These are alternative routes joined by OR, each with a 55% minimum in the qualifying degree. The Institute will still determine the equivalence and relevance of submitted certificates.
The notice asks for one education-evidence PDF and one experience-evidence PDF. For a civil candidate with contracts or project assignments across employers, a single coherent chronology supported by signed experience records is more useful than scattered screenshots. Be particularly careful if past employment used an IDA or another pay scale: the application rules explicitly say that experience without the corresponding equivalence certificate will not be considered. A duty note alone is not a pay-equivalence certificate.
The role's final selection is Presentation and Interview. A project example might be about quality control, construction-stage deviation, tests against design intent, or a documented remediation, as relevant to the candidate's own history. The Institute has not published a Civil Engineering written-paper syllabus, construction code list, number of slides or interview weightage for Advertisement 411002/7/2026-NFR.

Technical Officer — Computer Science and Engineering — Department-specific Eligibility and Selection Analysis
Vacancies: 1 | Category: UR 1 | Group-A Level 10: ₹56,100–₹1,77,500 | Upper age 40 years before applicable concessions | Closing date 20 December 2026
Published degree routes, as alternatives
M.Tech in Computer Science or its allied branches or equivalent — 2 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7; Four-year engineering Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or allied branches or equivalent — 5 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7; M.Sc. Computer Science or Master of Computer Applications or equivalent — 4 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7. Each route requires at least 55% marks in its qualifying degree. The equivalent-qualification decision belongs to the Institute; the formal certificate must identify the actual degree and discipline.
Computer Science is unusual in offering three pathways: relevant M.Tech + two years, four-year engineering bachelor’s + five years, or M.Sc. Computer Science/MCA + four years. Each has a minimum 55% in the qualifying degree and relevant experience in Pay Level 7.
An MCA degree follows the four-year experience route, not the M.Tech two-year route. For allied-branch degrees, retain official course title and supporting equivalence material instead of silently assuming a differently named branch qualifies. Showing the nature and Pay Level of actual technical experience is as important as its duration.
The vacancy is departmental Technical Officer, not an advertised software-developer vacancy. A practical presentation can nevertheless evidence technical problem definition, systems reliability, documentation and measurable outcomes from the applicant’s past work, without claiming that the Institute has announced a particular programming stack or coding test.
Choose a system or service personally maintained; explain requirements, implementation choices, testing, operational failure modes, access/control considerations and measurable recovery or maintenance outcomes. The original notice does not prescribe programming languages, algorithms, exam marks or a coding syllabus.
Why the MCA/M.Sc. route requires special attention
The three published choices are not equivalent in their service duration. M.Tech CS/allied + two years; four-year engineering bachelor’s CS/allied + five; M.Sc. Computer Science or MCA + four. The presence of all three in the same advertisement does not permit selecting the most advantageous experience minimum from a different route. A three-year BCA followed by an MCA is not a four-year engineering bachelor's route, though the applicant may be eligible through the separate MCA-plus-four-years alternative. A master's degree in a differently named computing field requires the Institute's acceptance of equivalence, not a website's unsupported assurance.
Official proof should let the scrutiny panel see the qualification title, percentage, employer, service period, relevant technical functions and level of pay. A designation such as 'Systems Engineer' or 'IT Officer' is not, on its own, definitive proof of Pay Level 7 or a relevant branch. If an employer uses IDA or another pay system, get an actual equivalence certificate; the advertisement says failure to submit it makes such experience unacceptable. Current employees of public institutions should handle the NOC rule even though the portal permits an advance copy.
For Presentation and Interview, a candidate may explain a concrete reliability or data-system challenge with architecture, incident reproduction, testing, access boundaries and measurable improvement. This is professional preparation, not evidence of a confirmed programming or computer-based test. No official language such as Java, Python, SQL, Linux or network-security syllabus is specified by the eight-page notice.

Technical Officer — Electrical Engineering — Department-specific Eligibility and Selection Analysis
Vacancies: 1 | Category: EWS 1 | Group-A Level 10: ₹56,100–₹1,77,500 | Upper age 40 years before applicable concessions | Closing date 20 December 2026
Published degree routes, as alternatives
M.Tech or equivalent in Electrical Engineering — 2 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7; Four-year Bachelor of Engineering/Technology or equivalent in Electrical Engineering — 5 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7. Each route requires at least 55% marks in its qualifying degree. The equivalent-qualification decision belongs to the Institute; the formal certificate must identify the actual degree and discipline.
This is the only notified EWS seat, in Electrical Engineering. The applicant must possess a 55%-or-better M.Tech with two years of relevant Level-7 experience, OR a four-year relevant bachelor’s degree with five years. The reservation is a vertical EWS category, not an additional unreserved vacancy.
The EWS certificate must be in the Government of India format and issued on or after 1 April 2026, with validity under the notice. Do not attach a state-only EWS document without checking the central format. Relevant service evidence must also prove the correct pay level or formally recognised equivalence.
The notice does not announce a particular electrical substation or distribution-system assignment. Applicants can demonstrate genuine experience involving an electrical system, protection/safety decisions, isolation/testing and documented maintenance or performance analysis, if those were their actual responsibilities.
A strong evidence-led electrical case study distinguishes ratings and design assumptions, observed faults or constraints, safety barriers, measurements, the proposed remedy and its verification. This is a presentation approach; no official Electrical Engineering question bank or trade-test date has been provided.
EWS is attached to this specific departmental seat
There is one EWS vacancy, and the published table contains no additional UR Electrical seat. A candidate applying under EWS should ensure the certificate follows the competent Central Government format and the requirement to be issued on or after 1 April 2026, before the closing date. Whether a particular applicant may compete for any other institute post depends on that post's own subject conditions; this Electrical vacancy does not become a general all-department vacancy. The overall single PwBD horizontal reservation does not create another Electrical opening.
Academic and service requirements still operate independently. A relevant M.Tech Electrical with at least 55% plus two qualifying years meets the stated academic/service pattern; a four-year Electrical bachelor's with 55% requires five qualifying years. Work history needs to be in the relevant advertised area and the required Level-7 grade or an accepted equivalent. An experience certificate giving a designation without a usable salary-scale reference leaves a material gap under the Institute's explicit instructions.
If preparing a technical presentation, use a problem the applicant can actually evidence—electrical-system fault diagnosis, safe maintenance, commissioning analysis or a documented reliability issue. Explain the measured parameters, protection and isolation logic, decision made and verification after the intervention. The advertisement does not declare an electrical licensing exam, a power-systems paper, a fixed test pass mark or a specific equipment posting.

Each route requires at least 55% marks in its qualifying degree. The equivalent-qualification decision belongs to the Institute; the formal certificate must identify the actual degree and discipline.
Electronics carries two separate vertical vacancies: one UR and one SC. The stated qualifying branches are Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. The M.Tech/ME route needs two years; the four-year bachelor’s route needs five years of relevant Level-7 experience.
SC reservation changes the seat category, not the requirement for a relevant electronics degree and appropriate experience. The experience-certificate dossier should identify hardware, electronics systems or other activities actually performed rather than relying on a generic job title. Three-month computer-course certification is not made a universal condition for this post; Word/Excel/PowerPoint proficiency is essential.
Candidates may use a real electronics instrumentation, calibration, communication or fault-isolation example to demonstrate their professional judgement, but the notice does not specify a particular instrument inventory or grant a guaranteed laboratory posting.
Tell the technical story of a verifiable system: architecture or signal path, instrument or measurement basis, failure symptoms, diagnostic isolation, safety/quality controls, outcome and what documentation made the fix reproducible. The Committee alone determines the questions and presentation assessment.
Reading the two-seat roster without inventing a subject split
The notice gives Electronics Engineering — two vacancies: UR 1 and SC 1. It does not allocate one seat to ECE and the other to Electronics & Telecommunication. Those are among the three named accepted discipline families, not separate quotas. The postgraduate option is M.Tech/M.E. in Electronics, Electronics & Communication, or Electronics & Telecommunication and requires two relevant years; the four-year bachelor’s option in the same named field families requires five. The 55% qualifying-degree threshold is common to both.
An SC applicant should use the valid Government of India certificate form and must satisfy the same discipline and service-evidence tests. If previous work is in an industrial pay band rather than CDA Level 7, the separate equivalence certificate matters. Do not assume a role whose main activity was generic software support necessarily supplies relevant Electronics or instrumentation experience; explain exactly which electronic systems, testing or technical operations were involved and let IIT (ISM) assess relevance.
One possible presentation structure is to take a real electronic system through a diagnostic lifecycle: original functional requirement; observed signal or measurement discrepancy; test instruments and uncertainty; root-cause isolation; corrective measure and outcome. Describe only personally supported work. The present advertisement makes Presentation and Interview the final method but gives no Electronics practical-test marks or fixed demonstration format.

Technical Officer — Mechanical Engineering — Department-specific Eligibility and Selection Analysis
Vacancies: 2 | Category: UR 1, ST 1 | Group-A Level 10: ₹56,100–₹1,77,500 | Upper age 40 years before applicable concessions | Closing date 20 December 2026
Published degree routes, as alternatives
M.Tech or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering with listed specialisation — 2 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7; Four-year engineering Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering — 5 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7. Each route requires at least 55% marks in its qualifying degree. The equivalent-qualification decision belongs to the Institute; the formal certificate must identify the actual degree and discipline.
Mechanical offers one UR and one ST seat. The postgraduate pathway specifically includes Machine Design, Thermal Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. The bachelor’s pathway is a four-year Mechanical Engineering degree. Both require 55% and Level-7 experience matching the 2-year or 5-year route.
Do not turn the listed M.Tech specialisations into six additional vacancies. An applicant with a different postgraduate programme should preserve exact syllabus/degree documentation for the Institute’s equivalence decision rather than presume acceptance. Demonstrate hands-on relevance and the correct pay-level evidence for every period claimed.
Technical case studies may come from design changes, thermal-system performance, manufacturing reliability, maintenance investigations, automation or robotics, if the applicant genuinely carried out the work. The vacancy description does not allocate each selected officer to any particular mechanical subsystem.
Choose one documented project and distinguish model assumptions, material/process constraints, testing strategy, safety or quality deviations and post-correction performance. For robotics/AI applicants, show where mechanical engineering remains central rather than describing only software work.
Read the specialisation list as degree eligibility, not as six sub-posts
The specific postgraduate wording includes Machine Design, Thermal Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering, and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in the broad Mechanical Engineering field. There are only two Mechanical vacancies, UR 1 and ST 1, irrespective of the number of named specialisations. The second route is a relevant four-year bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. For both routes the 55% threshold applies and the experience requirement is two or five years, respectively. An unrelated postgraduate qualification should not be taken as automatically valid merely because a past job title was 'Mechanical Engineer'.
Evidence of experience should fit the actual claimed specialisation. A Manufacturing Engineering applicant might have experience in process capability or equipment operations; a Thermal Engineering applicant might have performance measurement and maintenance; a robotics-oriented Mechanical applicant might document actuator/mechanical integration. These are illustrations of how an applicant could demonstrate relevance, not duties assigned by the Institute or separate recruitment subjects. The Scrutiny Committee decides whether employment was relevant at the required Pay Level.
The one ST seat remains part of the two-seat Mechanical total. Proper category proof and applicable age concessions are governed by Central Government rules; the notification does not provide a universal fixed extra age for all applicants irrespective of whether they claim reservation. For an interview presentation, evidence-based technical judgment and concise discussion of the applicant's own contribution are more important than naming all six specialisation keywords.

Technical Officer — Physics — Department-specific Eligibility and Selection Analysis
Vacancies: 1 | Category: OBC-NCL 1 | Group-A Level 10: ₹56,100–₹1,77,500 | Upper age 40 years before applicable concessions | Closing date 20 December 2026
Published degree routes, as alternatives
Master of Science or equivalent in Physics — 4 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7. Each route requires at least 55% marks in its qualifying degree. The equivalent-qualification decision belongs to the Institute; the formal certificate must identify the actual degree and discipline.
The Physics Technical Officer vacancy is one OBC-NCL seat. It expressly requires a Master’s degree in Physics or equivalent with at least 55%, four years of relevant experience in Pay Level 7, and proficiency in common computer-office applications.
Physics postgraduate qualification cannot be substituted with an unrelated engineering graduation merely because it is technically oriented. OBC-NCL documentation must follow the Government of India list and format; for this recruitment the certificate should have been issued on or after 1 April 2026.
A presentation may draw on a genuine measurement, physical instrumentation or laboratory-analysis experience record: experiment purpose, uncertainty, controlled variables, calibration, interpretation and reporting. These are illustrative competency areas rather than an announced IIT (ISM) Physics Officer syllabus.
Use one convincing measurement chain or physical system case and explain how you ruled out alternative explanations for an observed deviation. Provide documents supporting the period and level of relevant service; a degree alone does not satisfy the four-year requirement.
Physics Master's is a positive condition, not merely a preference
Physics is one OBC-NCL vacancy and its core route is a recognised Master's degree in Physics or equivalent, at least 55%, plus four relevant years at Pay Level 7. There is no stand-alone bachelor’s, M.Tech or MCA alternative printed for this department. Being highly experienced with instruments in another field may be professionally valuable, but does not replace the formal Physics degree condition without a valid institute-recognised equivalence. Employment certificates must make the grade and relevance assessable.
The OBC-NCL claimant needs a central-list and prescribed-format certificate issued on or after 1 April 2026 and compliant with the relevant closing-date conditions. A candidate holding a Physics MSc with good marks but only two years in the qualifying grade would not meet the published four-year route. Likewise, accumulated work under a different salary pattern must be supported by proper pay-equivalence evidence, rather than an informal claim that responsibilities 'felt similar' to Level 7.
An applicant can prepare a short, truthful physics case study about controlled measurements, calibration, uncertainty propagation, observed anomalies and checks against model predictions. No experiment, spectrometer, beamline or electronics set-up has been identified as a compulsory demonstration in this advertisement. This separation between evidence-led preparation and an actually announced test protects applicants from spending time on an invented Physics written syllabus.
- Select the Technical Officer vacancy corresponding exactly to Physics; the academic subject must match the published discipline.
- Attach proof of one complete eligible qualification/experience route: Master of Science or equivalent in Physics + 4 years.

Technical Officer (Fire Safety) — Department-specific Eligibility and Selection Analysis
Vacancies: 1 | Category: UR 1 | Group-A Level 10: ₹56,100–₹1,77,500 | Upper age 40 years before applicable concessions | Closing date 20 December 2026
Published degree routes, as alternatives
M.Tech/ME in Fire Engineering or Fire & Safety Engineering — 2 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7; Four-year bachelor’s degree in Fire Engineering or Fire & Safety Engineering — 5 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7; M.Sc. Fire & Safety Management or equivalent — 4 years relevant experience at Pay Level 7. Each route requires at least 55% marks in its qualifying degree. The equivalent-qualification decision belongs to the Institute; the formal certificate must identify the actual degree and discipline.
Technical Officer (Fire Safety) is a distinct advertised position, not one of the eight academic departmental rows. It allows M.Tech/ME Fire Engineering or Fire & Safety Engineering + two years, a four-year bachelor’s in these branches + five years, or M.Sc. Fire & Safety Management + four years, all with minimum 55% and relevant Pay-Level-7 experience.
This role carries additional expressly stated experience: fire-fighting operations and system maintenance; incident or accident reporting, investigation, safety inspection and job-safety analysis; and fire and safety experience in high-rise buildings. Do not mistake these for optional desirables. Occupational Health and Safety knowledge, construction safety experience and government/industry exposure are separate desirable advantages as described on page 5.
For this post the notice itself identifies practical safety-experience areas, so a strong applicant record can cite fire-system preventive maintenance, high-rise evacuation/safety measures, incident investigation and job-safety analysis actually performed. It does not give a testing schedule or an assessed fire drill for the current recruitment.
Prepare a documented hazard case: initial fire-risk profile, system readiness test, incident chronology, root-cause evidence, corrective-action ownership, high-rise constraints and verification of controls. Explain how you would protect people and records while avoiding a claim that any particular practical test is already scheduled.
Treat the operational-experience paragraphs as part of the eligibility file
This position is especially distinct because the original notice goes beyond degree and years. In addition to the accepted M.Tech/ME + two years, four-year fire-engineering bachelor's + five years, or M.Sc. Fire & Safety Management + four years routes, it separately identifies actual experience in fire-fighting operations and systems maintenance; incident and accident reporting and investigation; safety inspection and job-safety analysis; and fire and safety work in high-rise buildings. The applicant should show these realities through service records or substantive employer certificates, not merely state that they attended a one-off fire drill. The Institute remains responsible for assessing relevance.
The next block of the original advertisement is labelled Desirable Experience. Relevant central/state government or reputable industrial exposure, occupational health and safety qualifications/experience, construction-safety exposure, and certain computer-course/IT knowledge are advantages as printed; they should not be converted into a compulsory third academic degree. At the same time, Word/Excel/PowerPoint or equivalent office proficiency appears as an essential condition for the post. The distinction matters both for people avoiding unnecessary self-exclusion and for those who must substantiate the true mandatory experience.
For a presentation, a candidate could document a full fire-risk reduction case: hazard assessment, available detection/suppression systems, inspection findings, maintenance evidence, high-rise evacuation constraints, the response to a real incident or near miss, root-cause analysis, corrective action and verification of system readiness. Present this as personal experience, not as a syllabus or prediction of the panel's exact questions. No live fire-drill marks, scheduled practical test or negative-marking rule has been issued for this new 2026 advertisement.
