About this Recruitment

Recruitment-specific overview from the published record.

Delhi University Assistant Recruitment 2026: 215 Additional Posts, Full Eligibility, 200-Mark Main & Typing Test

Official date distinction: Advertisement is dated 29 October 2026; University's web publication is 30 October 2026. The basic closing rule is 19 November 2026 OR two weeks after the advertisement appears in Employment News, whichever falls later. The Employment News publication date was not specified in the five released documents checked on 30 October; 19 November is a provisional date in structured listings and must be revised if the later-of-two rule extends it. Do not assume the closing time is 11:59 PM or that 19 November is unconditionally final.

PwBD is not an extra vacancy. Vacancy document lists horizontal 1 (VI — Visual Impairment, including blindness/low vision). Eligible PwBD candidates of any social category may apply. If this PwBD vacancy cannot be filled, the notice specifically states that one UR vacancy shall be kept vacant; do not automatically reassign it. The brochure does not advertise separate OBC or EWS vertical seats in this particular 215-post schedule. That is not an invented blanket ban on OBC/EWS applicants from applying for unreserved consideration, subject to eligibility and category rules. The vacancy pattern is different from R&P/323/2026.

3. 🎓 Eligibility is a three-part AND, not 'any graduate'

The separate one-page qualification notice for post code ND0401 makes these requirements concurrent:

Required componentExact applicant check
DegreeBachelor’s degree from a recognised University/Institute
ExperienceTwo years as Junior Assistant/equivalent in a University, research establishment, Central/State Govt, PSU or autonomous body OR equivalent pay package in a reputed private company/corporate bank with annual turnover at least ₹200 crore
TypingEnglish 35 WPM OR Hindi 30 WPM; candidate needs computer operations proficiency

A fresh graduate with no relevant two-year experience does not satisfy the notice just because a graduate is allowed to sit for a test. Conversely, private-sector experience is not automatically excluded, but the employer's nature, equivalent pay package, relevant duties and ₹200-crore turnover condition must be evidenced. A job title alone is insufficient: appointment letter, actual duties, service periods and salary records matter when verifying equivalence.

The qualification and required experience must exist by the effective closing date, which could move beyond 19 November if the Employment News publication rule makes a later date applicable. Do not replace this by the printed 29 October issue date. The notice does not prescribe a minimum Bachelor's percentage. A general 5% relaxation provision in the instructions does not establish an invented percentage threshold here.

4. 🧾 Twelve practical eligibility decisions, not empty FAQ padding

  1. B.A./B.Com./B.Sc. plus 2 years as University Junior Assistant: Academic and experience routes are plausible; verify typing, dates, eligibility and documents.
  2. Graduate with only 18 months of valid Junior Assistant work: Two-year essential experience is not yet satisfied unless additional qualifying service brings the total to two years by the effective closing date.
  3. Graduate who worked as a clerk in an unrelated micro-business: Does not automatically satisfy the private-company alternative; organisation type, comparable pay, ₹200-crore turnover and equivalent role require proof.
  4. Graduate, two years in a corporate bank, equivalent salary and qualifying turnover: Potentially eligible on the private/corporate-bank alternative with evidence of all conditions, not based on bank name alone.
  5. Graduate with 40 WPM Hindi typing but no computer operations ability: Typing speed alone does not cure the separate computer-proficiency requirement.
  6. Graduate with 35 WPM English but slower Hindi: One language route suffices: English 35 OR Hindi 30 WPM; both are not demanded together.
  7. Graduate with a recognised degree but only an online internship: An internship is not automatically two years as Junior Assistant/equivalent. Do not misreport unpaid short training as qualifying service.
  8. Diploma and two years office work but no Bachelor's: The notice specifically requires a Bachelor's; the diploma is not an alternative to the degree.
  9. An OBC applicant considering the UR positions: The vacancy sheet advertises no OBC vertical row; whether UR consideration is possible is assessed by applicable open-merit rules, and a reserved-category relaxation claim changes the rules governing UR consideration.
  10. PwBD visually impaired applicant: There is one VI horizontal position within 215; valid disability proof and suitability must be examined; no extra 216th job exists.
  11. Applicant previously registered for R&P/311/2024: DU grants a fee exemption to applicants who applied for Assistant under that exact notice. It does not imply that the older form becomes an automatic application for R&P/325/2026.
  12. Existing DU college temporary employee: Read the 25 March 2021 employment-cutoff clause and the service-marks rule. Being employed today alone does not guarantee extra marks or blanket age concession; outsourced/project staff have separate exclusions.

These are illustrative reasoning scenarios, not eligibility orders issued by DU; documents and university decisions control.

5. 🎂 Age 32: cutoff, exemptions and the overlooked employee clause

The one-page eligibility sheet specifies an upper age of 32 years. The general instructions fix age measurement at the actual closing date of the advertisement. They do not print a universal lower age limit. The closing-date formula matters because Employment News could create a later effective deadline.

The DU instructions apply Government of India relaxations as adopted for SC/ST/OBC central list, PwBD, ex-servicemen and other eligible categories; they do not provide a clean numerical table for every category in this advertisement. Do not manufacture a precise category-wise age table from assumption. Other express provisions:

  • At least 3 years of regular service in the same/allied field in specified government/statutory/autonomous/university/PSU organisations may permit age relaxation up to 5 years or completed qualifying service years, whichever is less.
  • DU/university-college departmental candidates have a separate exemption from ordinary direct-recruit upper-age insistence.
  • One-time exemption for directly appointed DU/university-college contract, daily-wage or ad-hoc personnel with at least one year of service is described. Outsourced agencies and project-based contractual assignments are excluded.
  • The candidate must produce relevant documents when requested, including at examination, skill test or document-verification stage.

This is not permission to stack all concessions, nor a guarantee that any present contractor receives exemption. Map the actual employment arrangement and certification to the university instructions.

6. 💰 Basic pay versus gross salary — Level 4 must not be mistaken for take-home

DU's vacancy sheet specifically advertises 7th CPC Pay Level 04. The standard Central 7th CPC Level 4 basic matrix runs from ₹25,500 entry basic to ₹81,100 upper matrix cell, as in the Department of Expenditure 7th CPC reference. The upper figure is not a new recruit's guaranteed starting monthly pay.

Compensation conceptWhat an applicant may responsibly infer
Official DU post payLevel 4 (7th CPC)
Standard Level-4 basic matrix₹25,500–₹81,100 per month
Typical entry basic on direct Level-4 appointment₹25,500, subject to lawful fixation
DA/HRA/TA etc.Admissible as per applicable rules; actual amount and current rates are not given here
In-hand payNot specified in 09/2026 notice; depends on allowances, deductions and fixation

Do not mix Level-4 pay with Level-6 Senior Assistant pay from the different R&P/323/2026 recruitment, or promise a single gross/in-hand salary to all candidates. Appointment caveat (DU General Instructions, point 12): the University reserves discretion, wherever applicable, to offer a lower level or contract/deputation arrangement based on qualifications, experience and performance; this does not change the advertised vacancy's Level-4 classification or justify portraying every successful candidate as necessarily appointed on a lower scale.

7. 💳 Fee slabs: the previous 2024 Assistant applicant exemption is the hidden exception

Applicant category / situationApplication fee
General / Unreserved₹1,000
OBC (NCL), EWS or Female applicants₹800
SC, ST or PwBD₹600
Already applied to DU Assistant R&P/311/2024Exempted under this notice

These are non-refundable fee slabs. The last row is not a universal exemption for people who applied to any old DU job: it expressly names Assistant under R&P/311/2024 dated 12 December 2024. For overlapping categories, the online portal's recognised fee rule and verified documentary entitlement determine what applies; do not invent an extra double discount or fee = ₹0 for all female PwBD applicants. The notice says incomplete or unpaid applications are rejected unless a valid exemption applies.

8. 📝 The application date has an 'OR whichever later' rule

  • 29 October 2026: official advertisement issue date.
  • 30 October 2026: DU news-page publication.
  • 19 November 2026 OR two weeks after Employment News publication, whichever later: operative online closing rule.
  • Exact application closing hour: not printed in these five documents. Do not substitute 23:59.
  • Specific R&P/325/2026 apply URL: the five official files direct candidates to the DU Work with DU → Advertisement – Departments page; they do not give a confirmed post-specific apply URL.

Actionable workflow: Open the DU official announcement, use its recruitment/work page to locate R&P/325/2026 (not R&P/323/2026), enter accurate degree and service details, keep fee payment or exemption evidence, and preserve the submitted receipt. Recheck the final date against Employment News and any corrigendum; an older recruitment's application receipt does not prove submission to the new 215-post advertisement.

9. 🧠 Prelims are a screening filter, not final merit

DU's four-page official scheme defines the Preliminary test as 100 compulsory MCQs, 200 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes, worth 2 marks per correct answer and 0.5 mark deducted for each incorrect answer. It explicitly says preliminary marks ordinarily carry no weightage in the final assessment.

General Studies20
Reasoning20
Mathematics20
Higher Education Administration40

This fourth area alone is 40% of Prelims questions, which changes how a graduate should plan preparation. Ordinary 'SSC-style GK + Math + Reasoning only' preparation misses almost half the paper.

10. 📐 Preliminary score arithmetic and the unusual moving qualifying floor

Sample score: 70 correct, 20 wrong, 10 unanswered gives 70×2 − 20×0.5 = 130/200. This is an illustrative score, not an official cut-off. Importantly, the notice does not fix 40% or 60% as a permanent Prelims qualifying line. It defines a threshold as 50% of the average mark obtained by the top 5% of candidates who appeared, with a top-two fallback if that group contains fewer than two. The notice allows reduction of the cutoff marks by 5% for SC/ST and 10% for PwBD. Because the average is known only after the test, no fixed 'pass = 100' assertion is justified.

Preliminary-to-Main shortlist formula: The University states 30 candidates for one vacancy and 15 more for each additional vacancy, subject to marks/merit, ties at the cutoff and eligibility; this is a ratio policy, not a published list or guaranteed selection count. Do not report a fictional final cutoff or assume every applicant exceeding the computed qualifying floor must be shortlisted regardless of rank.

11. 🏛️ Main Examination: what actually earns final merit

The descriptive Main paper is 200 marks and 2 hours. It tests Educational Administration and Management, and practical application of rules to higher education. The official syllabus explicitly covers budget formulation and execution, ICT in universities, Fundamental Rules, Supplementary Rules, General Financial Rules, GeM procurement, pension and grievance handling. Unlike prelims, the Main score determines final merit, subject to a narrowly specified DU service-marks rule and qualifying the skill test.

Main areaSource-grounded preparation focus
Educational AdministrationUniversity acts, statutes, regulatory bodies, budget cycle, administrative files
Government financial controlsGFR, GeM procurement, reasoned sanction, audit trail and delegation
University operationsPension files, grievance disposal, ICT and records management
WritingClearly reasoned descriptive answers, appropriate official orders/notes, not MCQ shortcuts

No per-topic marks split is given for the Main syllabus, and no essay-question count is notified. Do not publish manufactured '50 marks GFR, 50 marks GeM' allocations.

12. ⌨️ Skill Test: the 50/100 gate that can end an otherwise strong candidacy

The skill test assesses the Manual of Office Procedures, noting and drafting, computer operations, and English typing 35 WPM OR Hindi typing 30 WPM. It carries 100 marks, requires at least 50, and is qualifying only: a score of 90 rather than 60 does not automatically raise the Main-based merit. The exact test time will be decided by evaluating experts; no officially fixed typing-test minute count is included in this document. Only candidates shortlisted for Main are allowed for Skill.

Candidate scenario: A candidate scores very strongly in Main but only 48/100 in Skill. That candidate does not satisfy the published 50-mark qualifying condition. Another candidate with 55/100 Skill can remain eligible for Main-based ranking; 55 is not itself a final selection guarantee.

13. 🧮 DU employee-service bonus: 10 marks maximum does not mean 'all private experience'

The 4th page of the scheme has a specific historical condition: employees working on contract/ad hoc/temporary basis in DU or its colleges as on 25 March 2021 may receive one additional mark per eligible completed year, maximum 10, for preliminary shortlisting and for the final merit derived from Main, as the notice states. This is not a blanket 'any five years experience gives +5'. It is also not a substitute for the post's essential Junior Assistant/equivalent experience. Applicants should retain appointment and continuation evidence, service-period certifications, and records that distinguish direct DU/college engagement from agency outsourcing or project work.

SituationSafe reading
Employed by DU college in 2026 but not employed there on 25 Mar 2021No automatic 2021-linked bonus
Private bank Junior Assistant equivalent, 2+ yearsMay meet essential experience; not DU-specific bonus
Eligible DU/college temporary employee as of 25 Mar 2021Check prescribed service-credit documents for up to 10 marks
Previous R&P/311/2024 applicantSeparate fee waiver, not automatic employee bonus

14. 📚 Official syllabus: the actual topics, not a generic banking test list

Prelims — 20 General Studies questions: current affairs, Indian history and national movement, Constitution and polity, general science, economy, geography and related topics. 20 Reasoning: analysis, decision-making and data interpretation. 20 Maths: secondary/higher-secondary calculations, statistical and commercial mathematics. 40 university administration: acts, statutes, institutional governance, financial administration, higher-education regulators and University of Delhi's own framework.

Main — descriptive: administration and management, functioning of higher education, regulatory bodies, budgets and grants, application of ICT, FR/SR, GFR, GeM purchases, pension and grievance handling. Skill: office procedure, noting/drafting, computer operation and typing.

The official scheme says Preliminary/Main/Skill are bilingual English/Hindi, but a candidate must use one consistent language medium throughout. Check the announced exam-day instructions for operational details; no exam city, exact day or slot has been released with this 29 October notice.

15. ✍️ Six original office-work practice scenarios linked to the DU syllabus

The following are editorial exercises, not official DU questions or predictions of marks allocation.

A — File noting on an incomplete bill: A department sends a ₹2.4 lakh bill without a sanction reference. Draft a note identifying the missing approval, the authority for expenditure, available budget head and supporting invoice. A good answer does not automatically order payment before verification.

B — GeM procurement: A lab needs 15 identical office peripherals. Explain the sequence: define specifications without vendor bias, check budget and procurement route, compare authorized options, record sanction/receipt/inspection and keep the audit trail. Avoid inventing a financial threshold not provided in the DU scheme.

C — Grievance reply: A student says an examination fee was charged twice. An appropriate office response records the grievance number, checks portal/payment reconciliation, identifies the competent refund authority and communicates the documented outcome. A promise of immediate refund without investigation is poor administrative practice.

D — Reading a university rule: An applicant quotes a departmental order while a statute says something different. Distinguish Act, Statute, Ordinance, administrative order and governing delegation; cite the controlling source before deciding a case.

E — 200-mark prelim marking: 60 right, 25 wrong, 15 blank = 120 − 12.5 = 107.5 marks. This is score math only; it does not establish an official qualifying score under the top-5%-average rule.

F — Skill-test qualifying scenario: Candidate X: Main 142/200 and Skill 49/100; Candidate Y: Main 136/200 and Skill 63/100. Candidate X fails the published Skill minimum despite a higher Main score. Candidate Y meets that gate but still needs eligibility/documents and relevant merit-ranking conditions.

16. 🗓️ A disciplined 21-day preparation cycle tailored to this paper

This is suggested study planning, not a university-issued examination timetable. No future exam/admit-card/result record is assumed.

17. 📎 Documents and one subtle risk in the online form

Prepare the recognised Bachelor’s degree/marksheets, evidence of two years equivalent work with dates and job duties, service/employer status documents, proof of salary/pay equivalence where relevant, private company or corporate bank turnover evidence where relying on that clause, typing evidence/skill readiness, valid photo identity, applicable category/PwBD certificates, and NOC from government/PSU employer when the University requires it. DU's instructions specifically require OBC Central List and non-creamy-layer proof, EWS income/assets proof if relevant to a claim, and a valid disability certificate of 40% or more when invoking PwBD benefits. The University's General Instructions make the dates unusually specific:

Document / routeWhat DU explicitly requires
OBC-NCLCentral-list caste/sub-caste must match and the NCL certificate must be issued on or after 1 April 2026; it must support Central Government employment and be digitally verifiable
EWS evidence (where relevant)Income & Asset Certificate on or after 1 April 2026 and on/before the effective application closing date; do not interpret this as a separate EWS vacancy in the R&P/325 roster
PwBD Visual ImpairmentThe single VI horizontal reservation remains inside 215; relevant benchmark disability at least 40% plus the valid document uploaded with the application
Serving Government/PSU candidateProvide employer NOC at document verification or when DU requires uploading it; missing it by the due date can cancel candidature

Provisional does not mean finally eligible: DU may allow candidates to sit an exam before verifying all experience, pay-equivalence and category claims. Scrutiny can still cancel a candidature even after test participation. Certificates and original documents should therefore be ready before submission, not only when results are expected.

Do not borrow R&P/323/2026's application number, fee receipt, official links or exam child record for R&P/325/2026. Recruiters can use the same ND0401 job code across multiple notices, but the notice identity and its own 215-seat roster control the application and subsequent linked Exam/Syllabus/Result lifecycle.

18. ❓ Candidate FAQs with actual decision value

Can a fresher with a Bachelor's degree apply? The notice also requires two years of qualifying Junior Assistant/equivalent experience. Fresh graduation alone is insufficient.

Is the salary ₹81,100 at joining? No. That is the upper Level-4 matrix cell, not guaranteed starting basic; standard entry is ₹25,500 before applicable allowances and deductions.

How many OBC and EWS seats? No separately identified OBC or EWS vertical seats appear in this specific R&P/325/2026 vacancy table. It lists UR 164, SC 33, ST 18.

Is there one more PwBD seat? No. The one VI horizontal seat is included within the 215 total.

Is there an interview? This Assistant scheme specifies Preliminary, descriptive Main and qualifying Skill. Do not add an interview stage without subsequent official notice.

Does my preliminary mark count in final ranking? The preliminary exam is expressly for shortlisting only; see the separate DU service-marks provision and the Main/Skill rules.

How many marks in the final Skill test? It is 100 marks and requires 50, but is qualifying, not an extra 100-mark merit paper.

Does every experienced DU employee get up to 10 service marks? No. Specific contract/ad-hoc/temporary employment and the 25 March 2021 criterion apply.

If I applied in 2024 must I pay again? The instructions exempt candidates who previously applied for Assistant in DU R&P/311/2024, but still read the current online form submission requirements.

What is the final date? 19 November 2026 or two weeks after Employment News publication, whichever later; recheck the actual publication and DU corrections.

Can I use two different languages for two exam stages? The scheme says the applicant's selected English/Hindi medium must be consistent throughout.

Are results or the exam date out? Not in these five original documents as of 30 October 2026. Do not confuse R&P/323/2026's exam listing with a new date for R&P/325/2026.

Post description

Assistant ND0401 — 215 additional vacancies under the 29 October DU notice

Post code ND0401 • 7th CPC Level-4 • Ordinary upper age 32 • Degree AND 2-year qualifying experience AND language typing. Unlike DU's R&P/323/2026 (80 Assistant plus 46 Senior Assistant), this R&P/325/2026 document advertises only one post code ND0401 with 215 additional seats. Official vertical split is UR 164, SC 33 and ST 18; one visually-impaired PwBD seat is horizontally reserved within this total.

Essential qualification must be tested as a package

(1) Bachelor's from a recognized institute/university. AND (2) Two years as Junior Assistant or equivalent in a university/research establishment/Central or State Government/PSU/autonomous body, OR a comparable private company/corporate bank meeting equivalent pay package AND minimum ₹200-crore annual turnover requirements. AND (3) English typing 35 wpm OR Hindi typing 30 wpm, with computer-operation proficiency. A diploma alone, 1-year work history, a generic desk job or fast typing alone does not satisfy every condition.

Pay and age

Published pay: Level 4. Standard 7th-CPC basic matrix ₹25,500–₹81,100 per month; first figure is standard entry and last figure a higher matrix cell, not gross or in-hand. Upper age 32 on the effective application closing date, with DU/GoI relaxation and special directly engaged DU/college service arrangements described in the General Instructions. The PDF does not separately give an ordinary minimum age.

Exam steps

Preliminary 100 MCQs/200 marks/150 minutes, wrong answer −0.5; not included in ordinary final merit. Descriptive Main 200 marks/120 minutes, administrative rules and finance; 100-mark Skill qualifies at 50 with noting/drafting, computer and typing. Future test dates remain unannounced; the 4-page DU R&P/325 scheme is controlling, not any calendar for R&P/323.

Fees and application

₹1,000 General/UR; ₹800 OBC-NCL/EWS/Female; ₹600 SC/ST/PwBD; exemption for previous Assistant applicants under R&P/311/2024. The notice is online-only. 19 November 2026 or two weeks following Employment News publication, whichever later; no exact hour specified. Current form must be for R&P/325/2026.

Who should double-check before payment?

  • Recognised graduate without two years qualifying Junior Assistant/equivalent experience.
  • Private-sector employee without documentary proof of comparable pay, relevant duties or ≥₹200-crore company/corporate-bank turnover.
  • Candidate using a reserved certificate whose central-list, year or status requirements are unmet.
  • DU temporary staff assuming post-2021 hiring alone confers service marks or one-time age exemption.
  • Someone who applied to R&P/323/2026 and assumes that receipt already covers the new 215 Additional Posts.

Job duties: The advertisement does not give a department-by-department job description. Preparation for administrative work involves documentation, file processing, note drafting, financial rules and computer records; this summary is role-context inferred from the official examination syllabus, not a promise of a particular posting desk.
