Samagra Shiksha Diu PGT Written Test and Walk-in Interview 2026 — History, Geography, Statistics and Business Studies

Official recruitment: EDN/SS/DIU/STC-PGT/RECRUITMENT/2026-27/216 | Notice date: 05 November 2026 | Written test and interview date: 25 November 2026

1. Exactly what the administration has scheduled

Samagra Shiksha, Diu will conduct a written test for PGT applicants on the same day as the walk-in interview, before the interview. The published walk-in/interview venue is Government Higher Secondary School, Diu, and the published walk-in reporting time is 9:30 AM. No separate written-paper venue is identified. Only applicants obtaining at least 40% marks in the written test are eligible for interview. Four English-medium teaching seats have been notified, one each in History, Geography, Statistics and Business Studies. This is a common advertised selection procedure, not an announcement of four separate examination dates or four official syllabi.

Do not use 9:30 AM as an invented exact written-paper start time: it is the time printed for the walk-in. Candidates must be there at the announced time; the detailed order of testing and verification will be managed at the venue.

2. Subject-fit screening: evidence of both qualification and language medium

PGT candidates must hold a postgraduate degree in the respective subject with 50% or more from a recognised university and the relevant NCTE-recognised teacher-education credential specified in the notice. All subjects are English-medium, so the candidate's SSC study medium should be English under the notification's language-medium condition. The 50% academic qualification and 40% written-test score refer to different assessments. The latter does not rescue a missing B.Ed./recognised alternative, unrelated master's discipline or inconsistent SSC study-medium evidence.

The application itself collects SSC medium, SSC/HSC marks, graduation and postgraduate main subjects, B.Ed. data, experience and category/other declarations. It is practical to arrange originals in the same order so the stated information can be checked easily.

3. Recommended subject revision — not an official issued syllabus

The four-page government notice does not publish chapters, exam pattern, prescribed books or an official content breakdown. The topics below are subject-oriented preparation recommendations, not verified topics that the authority promises to test. Candidates can use them to refresh their chosen postgraduate discipline and to explain complex concepts in the advertised English teaching medium.

📜 PGT History — sources, sequence and interpretation

  • Revise the distinction between chronology and a supported historical explanation. Accurate dates can anchor an argument, but a date alone does not explain why a social or political change happened.
  • Practice using primary and secondary sources responsibly: who produced a source, when, for whom, with what possible limitations, and how it compares with another record.
  • Connect broad historical periods with economic, administrative, social and cultural developments without assuming that one event has a single uncontested cause.
  • Work on classroom explanations of historical significance: identify a claim, supply evidence, acknowledge an alternative interpretation and conclude within the evidence available.

Original practice exercise (not a published question): Two historical accounts place different emphasis on the same reform. Identify the type of source, possible perspective, points that can be verified independently and a balanced two-paragraph explanation suitable for students.

Discussion prompt (illustrative only): How would you help students distinguish an eyewitness report from a later interpretation of the same event? Explain one short classroom activity in English.

🗺️ PGT Geography — maps, scale and causal geography

  • Revise how physical geography relates relief, climate, drainage and ecological processes; avoid merely memorising names without explaining processes.
  • Practise map interpretation: scale, orientation, legend, projections and thematic symbols; decide what a map can and cannot prove.
  • Compare weather versus climate, spatial rainfall variation and the interpretation of a simple climate chart.
  • Explain spatial distributions of settlements, population, land use and resources through geographic reasoning rather than assuming a universal causal pattern.

Original practice exercise: A map shows strong regional differences in rainfall. Describe two hypotheses about relief or seasonal circulation, identify data needed to test each and write a 150-word English explanation of the map legend and limitations.

Discussion prompt: Which three questions would you ask students before accepting their conclusion from a choropleth map?

📐 PGT Statistics — calculation plus interpretation

  • Revise mean, median and mode with skewed data and outliers; explain why they can lead to different impressions.
  • Work through measures of dispersion, including variance and standard deviation, and relate calculations to variability in a small data set.
  • Distinguish sample from population, random sampling from selection bias, and the implications of simple probability assumptions.
  • Explain correlation without assuming causation, the meaning of uncertainty and the limits of a point estimate.

Original practice exercise: A small class scores 10, 12, 12, 14, and 52. Calculate the arithmetic mean (20) and median (12); explain in English why a single outlier makes one summary less representative of most observations. These figures are instructional examples, not an official paper or mark distribution.

Discussion prompt: A student reports a correlation coefficient and says one variable must cause the other. How would you correct the inference?

🏢 PGT Business Studies — reasoning through a business decision

  • Review organisational forms and the rights, responsibilities and objectives attached to different kinds of enterprises.
  • Connect planning, organising, staffing, directing and controlling through one realistic organisational case.
  • Explain working capital, cost, pricing and marketing as interacting decisions, not stand-alone definitions.
  • Practise analysing entrepreneurs, consumer interests, responsible business practice and trade-offs in a small business environment.

Original practice exercise: A small food-products producer wants to enter a new market while customer credit terms are lengthening. Compare an aggressive sales plan with a cautious cash-flow plan and identify which extra information would be needed before choosing either.

Discussion prompt: Explain the difference between raising sales and improving cash flow using one short example a school student can understand.

Degree caution: The vacancy is labelled Business Studies, but the notice does not publish a list automatically equating Commerce, MBA, Economics or Management master's degrees with the required “respective subject” postgraduate qualification. Verify degree-subject relevance with authentic university records rather than relying on this preparation discussion.

4. A subject-aware plan for the same-day test and interview

First, confirm the subject-specific postgraduate degree, teacher-education credentials and English SSC-medium evidence. Second, rehearse concise explanations, worked cases and corrections of common misconceptions in the advertised teaching medium. Third, practise moving from a correct technical answer into how to explain the answer clearly to learners; this supports good teaching practice although the notice does not mandate a demonstration lesson. Finally, plan travel and paperwork for the 9:30 AM walk-in rather than arriving only for an assumed later interview.

For all subjects, practising a small number of accurate examples is more defensible than memorising a made-up syllabus. A candidate could be asked about professional knowledge in an interview, but no official interview questions, marks, assessed competencies or demonstration requirements are given in this notice.

5. The 40% gate: interpret it precisely

The minimum 40% is a condition for being considered for interview after the written test. It does not mean an appointment, an advertised final pass percentage or a reservation-wise selection cutoff. There is no confirmed total written score in the PDF. If a future official instruction were to say the maximum is M marks, 0.40 × M would be the qualifying boundary, subject to that instruction's rounding rules; do not label any hypothetical example as the actual published cut-off.

6. Papers, form, and original-certificate verification

Bring the prescribed application form on pages 3–4, correctly tick the chosen subject, affix a recent passport photograph, sign the declaration, and supply self-attested copies of the relevant certificates. Candidates must present originals at the interview for verification. The form requests leaving certificate, category certificate where relevant, SSC/HSC records, graduation and postgraduate marksheets/certificates, professional teacher-education proof and experience records if declared. The published notification does not prescribe an online registration, application-fee challan, admit-card download or separate postal submission.

7. What is known and what must come from a later genuine notice

Known on 5 November: four named PGT subjects, English medium, ₹29,000 fixed monthly pay, 30-year general upper-age criterion, educational routes, 25 November walk-in at 9:30 AM, same-day written first, interview available only at 40% written marks or above. Not announced: test paper structure, duration, question mix, negative marking, syllabus by chapter, marking of interview, result publication day, selection list or individual contract commencement date. Only a subsequent communication from the UT Administration / Samagra Shiksha Diu can establish those missing particulars.
