State Bank of India

PsuPublic Sector BankCentralBanking Finance

State Bank of India (SBI) is India's largest public sector bank, headquartered in Mumbai. Established on 1 July 1955, with institutional roots tracing back to the Bank of Calcutta in 1806, SBI occupies a distinctive position in India's financial system by connecting everyday retail banking with agricultural finance, corporate lending, government banking and international financial services.

Beyond its extensive branch network, SBI operates at the intersection of financial inclusion and large-scale banking technology, with digital banking, cybersecurity, risk management and data-driven services forming important parts of its operations. Its recruitment opportunities span clerical and probationary officer positions, specialist technology and finance roles, and senior professional appointments. Employment conditions vary by advertisement, making it essential for applicants to distinguish regular bank careers from contractual specialist engagements.

SBI Security Officer Recruitment 2026: 60 Vacancies for Experienced Service Officers

State Bank of India's advertisement CRPD/SCO/2026-27/28, dated 4 November 2026, offers a route into its regular security cadre for officers with the prescribed Armed Forces or paramilitary rank and service. The advertisement combines Manager (Security), MMGS-III, and Deputy Manager (Security), MMGS-II, in a single 60-vacancy recruitment. Applications and fee payment run from 4 to 25 November 2026.

The first decision is whether your service record meets the rank and experience threshold. A graduate degree is necessary, but it does not by itself qualify a candidate. A second, independent condition is SHAPE-1 or an equivalent medical category on the advertisement's release date. Check those two requirements before paying the fee or preparing for the test.

Where the 60 vacancies sit

SBI publishes one combined reservation table. It does not allocate a separate number to Manager and Deputy Manager. Accordingly, the total is 60 across both grades, rather than 60 at each grade. The vacancies are provisional and may change with the bank's requirements.

🥧 Category distribution of the 60 advertised vacancies

CategoryVacancies
UR25
OBC16
SC9
EWS6
ST4

UR accounts for 25/60, or about 41.67%, of the advertised pool; OBC accounts for about 26.67%. These are calculated shares of the vacancy table, not selection probabilities. Applicants still have to meet their category's documentary conditions and the applicable selection standard. The notice does not provide a state-wise vacancy allocation: an examination city is not a promised posting location.

Two grades, two service thresholds

Both routes require graduation. The experience is specified as post-qualification experience, assessed on 31 October 2026. A candidate should match the dates of graduation, commission/officer appointment and subsequent service against the relevant route, rather than relying only on total years in uniform.

GradeArmed Forces routeParamilitary route
Manager (Security), MMGS-IIIArmy Major or above, or equivalent Navy/Air Force rank, with at least 10 years of commissioned serviceDeputy Commandant or above, with at least 10 years of service as an officer in that force
Deputy Manager (Security), MMGS-IIArmy Captain or above, or equivalent Navy/Air Force rank, with at least 5 years of commissioned serviceAssistant Commandant or above, with at least 5 years of service as an officer in that force

Rank and service length are cumulative requirements. Ten years of service does not establish Manager eligibility if the prescribed rank is missing. Equally, reaching the specified rank does not remove the minimum service requirement. Experience in private guarding, corporate security or another occupation does not, by itself, meet these stated service routes.

Serving officers are not excluded merely because they have not yet retired: the advertisement expressly asks serving applicants for current medical-board evidence. They must also comply with the employer's NOC requirement at interview and the discharge-document requirement at joining. Applicants with an unusual service history should use SBI Careers' query facility to clarify how their record will be assessed before treating themselves as eligible.

Age, medical fitness and reservation documents

The standard age band is 25–40 years as on 31 October 2026. SBI states that applicable reserved-category upper-age relaxation follows Government of India guidelines and that cumulative relaxation is unavailable. The advertisement does not give a category-by-category numerical relaxation table. Candidates claiming a concession must establish the applicable entitlement and produce its supporting certificate.

Medical category is an application requirement

Applicants need SHAPE-1 or an equivalent medical category as on the date of release of this advertisement. A retired officer should upload the relevant discharge-book/service-record evidence; a serving officer should upload the latest Medical Board document issued by the service. This evidence belongs in the application, not merely in a folder to be produced after selection. Appointment also remains subject to the bank's medical fitness requirements.

Check the certificate period before choosing a category

  • OBC: Reservation is for non-creamy-layer applicants. The prescribed certificate must contain the NCL clause and be issued between 1 April 2026 and the interview date. Creamy-layer applicants cannot claim OBC reservation.
  • EWS: The required Income and Asset Certificate must be based on FY 2025–26 income and valid for 2026–27, with production at the stipulated document-verification stage. Follow the notice's directions if the required certificate is not available.
  • SC/ST: Use the prescribed Government of India format from the competent authority.
  • Category selection: The advertisement does not permit a later switch between the category selected at registration and another category. Review the claim and supporting documents before final submission.

What the job involves—and where it can take you

The work combines field visits with security administration. SBI describes branch and office security audits, assessment of protective arrangements, staff drills and awareness activities, disaster-plan communication, and coordination with civil, police and military authorities. Officers may recommend improvements after visiting branches and follow up on weaknesses that could lead to security incidents.

For an applicant moving from service into banking, the operational setting matters. Protection has to support a branch that remains accessible to customers and staff. A useful way to read the job description is to connect each duty to evidence of your own experience: an audit finding, the corrective action proposed, coordination required and the follow-up that demonstrated improvement. This is interview preparation advice, not an additional selection condition.

Posting can be anywhere in India. SBI reserves transfer and deputation rights, including to associates/subsidiaries or other organisations as service needs require. A request for a particular office or location may not be accepted. The advertised probation period is six months, as per the recruitment policy.

💰 Grade-wise basic pay

DesignationScaleAdvertised basic-pay scale
Manager (Security)MMGS-III₹85,920–2,680/5–₹99,320–2,980/2–₹1,05,820
Deputy Manager (Security)MMGS-II₹64,820–2,340/1–₹67,160–2,680/10–₹93,960

📊 Starting basic pay by grade, in rupees per month

GradeStarting basic pay
Manager MMGS-III85920
Deputy Manager MMGS-II64820

The difference between the two starting basic figures is ₹21,100 per month, calculated from the published scales. These figures are basic pay, not take-home salary. SBI lists DA, HRA, CCA, provident-fund/pension provisions, leave-fare concession, medical facilities and other benefits under the rules applicable at the time. Actual gross and net amounts depend on those rules, posting and deductions; the advertisement does not promise one universal in-hand amount.

Online examination: four papers, but only one enters final merit

The objective test contains 200 questions for 200 marks in two hours. SBI gives separate time limits for each paper.

PaperQuestionsMaximum marksTimeRole in selection
Reasoning Ability502530 minutesQualifying
English Language505030 minutesQualifying
General Awareness502525 minutesQualifying
Professional Knowledge5010035 minutesUsed in final merit after qualification
Total200200120 minutesSubject to qualifying all required papers

SBI will decide the qualifying marks. There is no penalty for wrong answers in the objective tests. Reasoning, English and General Awareness must still be cleared even though their scores do not enter the final merit calculation. Treating them as optional would miss an essential screening requirement.

The time limits imply averages of 36 seconds per Reasoning question, 36 seconds per English question, 30 seconds per General Awareness question and 42 seconds per Professional Knowledge question. These are simple time-per-question calculations, not prescribed answering speeds. They help identify whether practice is becoming too slow for the paper concerned.

Interview and the 70:30 calculation

SBI will call an adequate number of candidates category-wise from those qualifying in the online examination. The interview is marked out of 100; the bank decides its qualifying standard. For final ranking, Professional Knowledge contributes 70 marks and interview 30 marks, after conversion to a combined score out of 100.

🥧 Contribution to the final score out of 100

ComponentFinal-score contribution
Professional Knowledge70
Interview30

Worked illustration: A candidate scoring 80/100 in Professional Knowledge and 70/100 in interview would have a weighted score of 80 × 0.70 + 70 × 0.30 = 77/100, provided the qualifying requirements are met. This is an example, not a predicted cutoff. A ten-mark improvement in Professional Knowledge adds seven weighted marks, while the same improvement in interview adds three. Category-wise ranking and the bank's qualifying decisions still govern selection. In a tie at the cutoff, the advertisement gives precedence by age in descending order.

The notified method is online test plus interview. SBI also reserves the right to change the method, including consideration of shortlisting and interview; candidates should follow any later official revision.

📚 Professional Knowledge: reading the syllabus as a security officer

Annexure I covers fifteen areas. The table below groups each official area with a practical revision question. The questions are study prompts, not claimed examination questions, and the notice assigns no separate marks to these individual topics.

Official syllabus areaUseful revision focus
Basic security practicesDistinguish an asset, threat, vulnerability and risk; explain preventive versus reactive protection.
Security managementConnect manpower, lighting, surveillance, access controls, alarms, maintenance, reporting and budgets into one operating plan.
Risk assessmentWork from asset and threat profiles to a risk matrix, prioritisation, countermeasures and review.
Security hardwareCompare screening devices, barriers, communication equipment, protective equipment and guard-force options by purpose, limitations and upkeep.
Security proceduresExplain how policies, SOPs, drills and trained responses continue operations when equipment fails.
Fire safetyRevise fire classification, extinguisher suitability, response planning, preventive controls and relevant standards.
CCTVUnderstand camera placement, recording, retrieval, backup, analytics and legal handling of footage.
Manpower managementPlan deployment, duty rotation, reserves, supervision, handovers and records.
Executive protectionAssess precautions, available expertise, outsourcing and response responsibilities.
Disaster management and BCPLink local response teams and branch plans with external authorities, mutual aid and tested continuity arrangements.
Information securityIdentify how physical observation, social engineering and information handling create exposure.
IT security interfaceUnderstand authorised physical access and movement controls around IT assets, with clear role boundaries.
Organisational liaisonEstablish responsible coordination with police, fire, defence and administrative authorities within the bank's mandate.
Banking securityRevise protection of branches, vaults, lockers, cash movement, valuables and ATMs while maintaining customer operations.
AdministrationRelate office management, ethics, welfare, morale and supervision to an effective security function.

For preparation, use a branch-risk scenario to connect these areas. For example, consider a failed camera covering a cash-handling zone: what immediate control is needed, who must be informed, what record should be kept, and how should the repair be tested? This approach links equipment knowledge with procedures and supervision. It is a learning exercise based on the syllabus, not a substitute for the full Annexure I.

Application documents and upload checks

Prepare the qualification and service evidence together. The advertisement asks for a brief resume, identity/date-of-birth evidence, experience certificates, degree/marksheets, relevant category certificates, serving certificates signed by the appropriate commanding authority or discharge book, medical documents, applicable NOC and current-employment financial/offer documents as specified.

Copy the declaration's exact wording from the official advertisement when preparing the handwritten image. Preview every upload for legibility and correct placement. A perfectly sized document is still unusable if a service date, rank or signature cannot be read. An eligible serving candidate should specifically check the signed service certificate, latest Medical Board document and NOC arrangements.

Fee and submission sequence

UR/EWS/OBC: ₹750. SC/ST: no application fee/intimation charge. The fee is non-refundable. Pay through the application's integrated online gateway; payment-channel transaction charges, if any, are borne by the candidate.

  1. Open SBI Careers and select CRPD/SCO/2026-27/28 before following its application link.
  2. Register with an active email address and retain the registration number and password.
  3. Enter education, service, rank, medical and category details against the correct eligibility dates.
  4. Upload the required images and supporting documents, then inspect the previews.
  5. Review the application before final submission and fee payment. SBI does not allow subsequent editing after the specified final-submission/payment steps.
  6. Keep the completed application and payment e-receipt. For fee-paying candidates, registration is complete only when the fee is deposited within the window.

The deadline for application and fee payment is 25 November 2026. No separate closing clock time is stated in the advertisement. Do not send the initial application or supporting papers to CRPD by post. If multiple applications are submitted, SBI retains only the last valid completed application, with earlier fees forfeited.

The month ranges are the advertisement's planning schedule. They are not confirmed individual examination dates or evidence that a call letter/result has been released. Use SBI Careers and the registered email address for subsequent communication. Annexure II lists tentative examination cities; the bank can change or allot centres, and requests to change a centre/date/session are not entertained. Examination travel is at the candidate's expense.

When shortlisted, bring the originals supporting the application. A call letter does not settle eligibility. Government/public-sector employees must meet the NOC requirement at interview; selected candidates must produce the required discharge document on joining. For eligible outstation interview candidates, the notice permits reimbursement of eligible economy airfare/actual Indian travel cost under its conditions, capped at ₹10,000 return, with the required ticket/invoice and boarding-pass evidence; local transport is excluded. Ineligible candidates do not receive reimbursement.

Before committing the application

Check three items against your records: the right rank plus qualifying service, the medical category on the required date, and the reservation certificate period, if claimed. Then consider the employment decision: this is regular, transferable bank security work involving audits, visits, drills and coordination. The role's location and responsibilities deserve the same attention as the starting basic pay.
