Online examination: four papers, but only one enters final merit

The objective test contains 200 questions for 200 marks in two hours. SBI gives separate time limits for each paper.

SBI will decide the qualifying marks. There is no penalty for wrong answers in the objective tests. Reasoning, English and General Awareness must still be cleared even though their scores do not enter the final merit calculation. Treating them as optional would miss an essential screening requirement.

The time limits imply averages of 36 seconds per Reasoning question, 36 seconds per English question, 30 seconds per General Awareness question and 42 seconds per Professional Knowledge question. These are simple time-per-question calculations, not prescribed answering speeds. They help identify whether practice is becoming too slow for the paper concerned.

Interview and the 70:30 calculation

SBI will call an adequate number of candidates category-wise from those qualifying in the online examination. The interview is marked out of 100; the bank decides its qualifying standard. For final ranking, Professional Knowledge contributes 70 marks and interview 30 marks, after conversion to a combined score out of 100.

Worked illustration: A candidate scoring 80/100 in Professional Knowledge and 70/100 in interview would have a weighted score of 80 × 0.70 + 70 × 0.30 = 77/100, provided the qualifying requirements are met. This is an example, not a predicted cutoff. A ten-mark improvement in Professional Knowledge adds seven weighted marks, while the same improvement in interview adds three. Category-wise ranking and the bank's qualifying decisions still govern selection. In a tie at the cutoff, the advertisement gives precedence by age in descending order.

The notified method is online test plus interview. SBI also reserves the right to change the method, including consideration of shortlisting and interview; candidates should follow any later official revision.

📚 Professional Knowledge: reading the syllabus as a security officer

Annexure I covers fifteen areas. The table below groups each official area with a practical revision question. The questions are study prompts, not claimed examination questions, and the notice assigns no separate marks to these individual topics.

For preparation, use a branch-risk scenario to connect these areas. For example, consider a failed camera covering a cash-handling zone: what immediate control is needed, who must be informed, what record should be kept, and how should the repair be tested? This approach links equipment knowledge with procedures and supervision. It is a learning exercise based on the syllabus, not a substitute for the full Annexure I.
