Indian Bank Apprentice 2026–27 examination: five sections, one shared hour

The online test is the ranking stage for 1,500 apprenticeship training seats. It has a stated pattern: 100 objective questions, 100 marks and 60 minutes of composite time. Eligibility checks and local-language proficiency remain separate requirements; a high test score does not repair an ineligible graduation date or an excluded apprenticeship history.

The hour is shared across the paper. The advertisement does not allocate a fixed number of minutes to each section. English is tested in English; the remaining tests will be available in major regional languages as decided by the bank. Use the actual examination handout for the final language and interface arrangements.

English, Quantitative Aptitude and banking-focused General Awareness together carry 75 marks. Reasoning and Computer Knowledge together carry 25. That distribution makes a preparation plan built almost entirely around reasoning puzzles a poor match for this particular paper. At the same time, the smaller Computer section can still matter in an aggregate-ranked examination.

What decides qualification and merit?

RuleOfficial position
Aggregate qualifying levelDecided by Indian Bank
Individual sectional minimumNone specified as a requirement; notice expressly says no sectional minimum
Relaxation in aggregate qualifying standard5% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD
Merit groupingState/UT-wise and category-wise
Ranking measureAggregate marks in descending order
Same marks at cut-offOlder candidate ranked ahead
Multiple examination sessionsEqui-percentile normalization, if applicable

Do not mistake an aggregate qualifying minimum for the score that secures a seat. Qualification permits consideration; ranking against available category seats determines the next position in the selection process. The bank has not published a numerical selection cut-off or applicant-to-seat ratio, so neither can be calculated reliably from the vacancy total.

The mention of an optional interview is not a confirmed interview schedule or a published written-test/interview weightage. No such weighting should be borrowed from an officer recruitment. Similarly, an unspecified penalty is not proof that there will be no penalty: check the official test handout when issued.

Syllabus scope and preparation priorities

Official scope: Reasoning Aptitude, Computer Knowledge, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness with special reference to the Banking Industry. The advertisement does not provide a chapter-by-chapter syllabus. The following coverage is editorial preparation guidance within those broad subjects, not additional officially notified chapters or predicted questions.

Reasoning Aptitude: protect time spent on a set

Practise short arrangements, ordering, direction and distance, blood relations, inequalities and syllogisms. For a multi-question puzzle, write down the certain placements first and distinguish them from tentative possibilities. A set that remains unresolved after several speculative branches should not consume the time needed for independent questions elsewhere.

During review, record whether an error came from misunderstanding a condition, reversing a relation or carrying an assumed placement forward as a fact. Solving more puzzles without identifying the recurring error often repeats the same loss of time. Since the official paper does not assign section-wise minutes, any practice time budget is your own tool and must be adjusted to the actual test interface.

Computer Knowledge: know the function, not only the abbreviation

Revise hardware and software, common input/output devices, memory and storage, operating-system tasks, files and folders, office applications, browsers, email, basic networks and safe digital practices. These are suggested areas under Computer Knowledge; the notice does not publish their individual weightage.

A useful self-test is to explain what a term does in one sentence. Distinguish a browser from a search engine, RAM from storage, and an operating system from an application. In office-tool practice, focus on ordinary operations and outcomes rather than obscure shortcuts. For security topics, understand phishing, authentication, passwords and the risks of sharing credentials. Avoid treating every technical fact as equally likely to be tested.

English Language: review why the alternatives fail

Work with comprehension passages, contextual vocabulary, sentence improvement, grammar and coherent paragraph order as preparation areas. Read the question’s requirement before selecting a grammatically acceptable sentence: it may be testing meaning, agreement, tense or the relationship between sentences.

For reading practice, summarise each paragraph briefly before answering inference questions. After a mock, explain why the selected wrong answer seemed attractive and what evidence eliminates it. This is more useful than memorising the answer letter. English accounts for one-quarter of the official marks, so candidates using a regional-language test option still need independent English practice.

Quantitative Aptitude: turn a statement into a workable calculation

Cover arithmetic fundamentals, percentages, ratio, averages, profit/loss, interest, time/work, speed/distance, simplification and table/chart-based data interpretation as a practical revision range. These are suggested topics, not an officially issued chapter list.

Check units and the quantity being asked before calculating. A percentage increase is measured against the original value; a share of a total uses a different denominator. In a data table, confirm whether amounts are in rupees, thousands or lakhs. Approximation can save time where options are well separated, but it is unsafe when close options require precision.

Maintain a calculation-error log separately from concept errors. Repeated mistakes in fractions or conversions need short daily drills; an unfamiliar problem type needs concept work. Treating both as a speed problem can lead to faster wrong answers.

Banking-focused General Awareness: build connections between concepts

Organise revision around banking institutions, RBI functions, deposit and lending terminology, payment systems, financial inclusion and current banking/economic developments. The advertisement does not set a current-affairs month range, so a claim that only a particular number of months will be examined would be unsupported.

For each current development, note the institution involved, the decision, the effective date where relevant and its practical effect. Prefer RBI, the concerned bank and government releases for changing facts. Do not retain an outdated rate, limit or office-holder merely because it appears in an older practice sheet. Static banking knowledge and current developments should support each other: learn what a payment system does before memorising a recent change concerning it.

⏱️ A practical way to use the composite hour

The paper’s arithmetic average is 36 seconds per question: 60 minutes divided by 100 questions. This is a pacing reference, not an official per-question timer. Some factual questions will take less time; a multi-step calculation may take more.

Use timed practice to identify questions that can be answered reliably, questions needing a second look and questions that are consuming time without progress. Decide the final attempt strategy only after reading the official marking instructions. Until a wrong-answer rule is confirmed, avoid making unsupported claims that blind guessing is either harmless or definitely penalised.

Review itemWhat to recordWhat it helps change

Correct answersBy sectionActual strength rather than confidence
Incorrect answersConcept, reading or calculation causeThe next revision task
Unattempted questionsLack of time or lack of knowledgePacing versus coverage
Time-consuming setsTime spent and eventual resultWhether the set was worth continuing

A suggested preparation sequence is to start with one diagnostic paper, repair the weakest recurring concepts, alternate short topic drills with mixed sets and then take full sixty-minute mocks. This is an editorial study method, not a bank-mandated timetable. Keep a weekly record of accuracy and completion instead of chasing a predicted cut-off unsupported by applicant data.

Local Language Proficiency Test: another eligibility gate

Candidates must read, write, speak and understand one opted language from their State/UT’s list. LLPT follows qualification in the online test. A candidate who fails the language test cannot be engaged even after a competitive online score.

An 8th, 10th or 12th-standard marksheet/certificate showing study of the opted specified language provides the advertised exemption from the language test. Keep the original and readable copies ready. Residence in a state, a spoken-language claim or an unrelated certificate is not the same as the school evidence described in the notice.

For example, a Jharkhand applicant choosing Hindi should check that the relevant school record actually shows Hindi. A West Bengal applicant must choose from Bengali/Nepali; the availability of Hindi elsewhere does not change that state’s listed options. Travel to the bank-designated language-test centre is at the candidate’s own cost.

Documents and later stages

Before the test, keep the registration details, active contact information and application printout accessible. Download the call letter only through the bank-authorised route when released and follow its identity-document and reporting instructions. No exam date, admit-card release date or result date has been announced in this advertisement.

Document verification must reconcile date of birth, graduation declaration date, category claim, relevant local-language evidence and apprenticeship/employment history. Medical fitness is a separate engagement condition. Candidates who qualify should read the digital apprenticeship contract on NATS before acceptance, especially district allocation, stipend, attendance and early-exit provisions.

The Certificate of Proficiency awarded after training is different from the entrance-test result. The training itself includes theoretical and practical assessment, and the notice requires more than 338 paid days during twelve months for certificate eligibility. Passing the entrance examination does not bypass these later conditions.

Common mistakes that change the outcome

Counting only age and ignoring graduation year: the permitted degree-passing period is independently binding.

Treating all 1,500 seats as one national merit pool: merit is State/UT-wise and category-wise.

Calling the district preference a guaranteed branch posting: the bank retains allotment discretion.

Assuming a school language exemption without checking the document: exemption depends on the specified evidence for the opted language.

Publishing a standard banking negative-marking rule: no such rule is stated in this advertisement.

Presenting preparation topics as the official detailed syllabus: only the five subject headings and paper structure are officially specified here.

For state/category seats, stipend and the application checklist, see the Indian Bank Apprentice recruitment. The controlling source is the official advertisement; check Indian Bank Careers for subsequent examination instructions.
