J&K Bank Ladakh Probationary Officer 2026 — Main Examination and Interview
Notification JKB/HR/Rectt/2026-494 · For qualifying Ladakh-domicile PO applicants
The Main Online Examination determines eligibility to be shortlisted for the Bank interview. In contrast to Prelims, the Main test contains a 200-mark objective section and 25-mark English descriptive section, for 225 marks over 190 minutes in total. The Bank allocates these marks to five separate tests, which must not be collapsed into a generic '200-mark Mains'. Only the Main Examination, together with the Interview, contributes to the final 80:20 weighted merit. The date and Main call-letter download have not been announced in this notification.
Full official Main Examination pattern
📊 Ladakh PO Main Examination: official marks across five papers
🥧 Main Examination: objective and descriptive composition
Because the Bank uses separately timed sections, spending 45 minutes on one test does not confer the right to move spare minutes to another. In particular, the English descriptive tasks are an additional 30-minute component, not already contained in the 160 objective minutes. The published 225-mark total includes both elements.
Reasoning — 40 questions, 60 marks, 45 minutes
Reasoning in Mains is allocated 60 marks, versus Reasoning's 40 marks in Prelims. The notice identifies the section but does not append a chapter-by-chapter question syllabus. Structured preparation can reasonably cover conditional arrangements, logical implication, comparison and ranking, coded relations, data sufficiency and analytical puzzles, with careful emphasis on reasoning from stated constraints rather than guessing. These are study suggestions, not extra officially notified subtopics. Practice with a 45-minute timer and review chains of related questions carefully: one incorrect base condition can lead to repeated losses and negative marks.
General / Economy / Banking / Digital / Financial Awareness — 50 questions, 60 marks, 35 minutes
This paper is unusual for its explicit inclusion of RBI circulars and the combination of general, economic, banking, digital and financial awareness. The named areas are part of the official paper title; individual chapter weightings are not prescribed. Preparation may include RBI functions and current circular themes, the role of commercial banks, digital payment systems, financial inclusion, inflation and policy rates, banking operations, customer protection, economic announcements and current developments. Students should treat this as an editorial preparation outline and check official RBI publications for factual updates, rather than treating a coaching-style topic list as a Bank-released syllabus.
With 50 questions in 35 minutes, the time available per question is limited. Regular revision of accurate concepts often matters more than attempting prolonged numerical problem-solving in an awareness section. The recruitment PDF does not announce a fixed number of current-affairs months or a guaranteed number of questions about Ladakh; no such claims are used here.
English Language — 40 questions, 20 marks, 35 minutes
Main English has more questions than Preliminary English but fewer maximum marks (40 questions/20 marks in Mains against 30/30 in Prelims). This makes it unsafe to apply the same assumed marks per item at both stages. The question paper medium is English. Reading comprehension, grammar and structure, vocabulary in context, sentence logic and accurately distinguishing similar answer choices are useful practice. However, the bank has not listed a formal breakdown of cloze tests, para jumbles or any particular chapter count in this notification.
Train timed accuracy for the 35-minute allotted section, while remembering that the Bank can require a minimum score in each Main paper as well as a minimum overall score. A candidate should not assume that the low 20-mark English allocation permits ignoring its separate qualifying role.
Data Analysis and Interpretation — 40 questions, 60 marks, 45 minutes
The Bank separates Data Analysis and Interpretation into its own high-weight 60-mark paper. Good preparation can include reading multi-variable tables and comparative charts, percentage changes, ratios, numerical consistency, averages and selecting correct information from data statements. These are helpful analytical skills for practice rather than a verbatim official topic list. Develop a habit of recording units (₹, %, years, persons) before comparing data points. In a 45-minute section, check whether one early interpretation error affects the entire set before submitting the linked answers.
Descriptive English — 2 tasks, 25 marks, 30 minutes
The Bank specifies Essay and Comprehension as the two descriptive tasks, with 25 marks in 30 minutes. The notification says topics may broadly concern economic and social issues, emerging trends in banking and technology, current affairs, ethics and related themes. These subjects are described as possible broad areas, not as an exhaustive set of guaranteed essay prompts. Practise a concise opening that addresses the question, a logically organised discussion with relevant examples and a clear conclusion; practise extracting a passage's stated meaning without importing unsupported claims.
The descriptive component is not an interview and must not be omitted from the 225-mark Main total. The source does not specify a separately announced guaranteed descriptive cutoff or a word count for either task, so do not impose one as a recruitment requirement.
Main cutoffs and shortlisting for interview
To be considered for interview, candidates must meet the Bank/IBPS-prescribed minimum in every Main test as well as the overall minimum. The notification specifies 40% aggregate for General and 35% for reserved categories, subject to overall merit. Only Main scores are used for the interview shortlist; the Bank plans to call candidates at three times the number of available vacancies under each category. With 20 total advertised vacancies, a precise count by category or a guaranteed 60 interview invitations cannot be inferred because the document does not announce the category-wise integer breakup.
Wrong answers in objective Main tests attract a deduction of one fourth of the marks allotted to that question. Unanswered questions do not receive the penalty. When multiple sessions are conducted, corrected marks can be adjusted by equi-percentile normalisation according to the Bank's disclosed procedure; the notice does not set a final numerical selection cutoff in advance.
Interview — 100 marks, with its own qualifying minimum
The Bank conducts interviews for those shortlisted from Mains. They are worth 100 marks. The stated minimum is 40% for General and 35% for reserved category candidates. Interview venue, date and reporting time are supplied in an individual call letter. An interview shortlisting notice is not proof of unconditional appointment: valid domicile, original educational proof, reservation certificates, identity, NOC (when required) and other checks still apply. Lack of required originals may prevent participation.
How the final 80:20 ratio works
🥧 Ladakh PO final selection: Main versus Interview weightage
Final merit uses 80% Main Examination and 20% Interview after the separate qualifying thresholds have been satisfied. This is a weighting ratio and not permission to add raw Main marks out of 225 to raw interview marks out of 100. For example, a candidate with 157.5/225 in Main and 80/100 in interview has raw stage percentages of 70% and 80%; multiplying by the stated weights produces 56 + 16 = 72 on a standard 100-point weighted illustration. This arithmetic illustration is not a notified Bank merit cutoff, and the Bank's published scoring and normalisation decisions govern real results.
Where two or more candidates have an equal final result, the older candidate takes precedence under the stated tie rule. The Bank may maintain a reserve list up to half of category vacancies for up to one year or until the next recruitment advertisement, whichever is earlier; it is not a guarantee of later selection.
Ladakh examination-centre choice and Main call-letter safeguards
The application requires six exam-centre choices, four or more outside Ladakh. Leh and Kargil are the two named Ladakh options; the Bank also lists centres outside the UT, with final assignment subject to availability. The Main call letter, accepted original photo ID and its photocopy must be produced. Crucially, candidates must also bring the stamped/authenticated Preliminary call letter and authenticated photo-ID copy from the first stage; the notice warns that failing to bring them can bar admission to Mains. Biometric checks occur around the Main test and may recur at document verification, interview and joining.
Do not confuse the notification's application dates, 7 to 26 November 2026, with exam or call-letter dates. The Bank will separately announce Preliminary result, Main dates, interview call letters, provisional selection and confirmation steps through its official https://jkb.bank.in/ Careers section. No lifecycle result or admit card exists merely because the recruitment has opened.
