RRB Technician Computer Based Test (CEN 02/2026)
This exam record represents the CURRENT examination stage of Railway Recruitment Boards' CEN 02/2026 for Technician Grade-I Signal and Technician Grade-III. The application window is already closed; the live candidate action is the Computer Based Test scheduled from 6 October to 9 October 2026. Exam-city/date intimation has been released and the e-call letter is made available about four days before the candidate's allotted CBT date, so candidates should use their own city-intimation/e-call-letter login rather than assume that every applicant has the same date or shift. A useful correction for this cycle is the vacancy count. The earlier indicative notice showed 6,565 tentative vacancies (323 Technician Grade-I Signal + 6,242 Technician Grade-III), but the detailed CEN 02/2026 revised the final notified total to 6,557: Grade-I Signal remained 323 while Grade-III became 6,234. Exam-stage content should therefore use 6,557, not the older 6,565 figure still repeated on some pages. There is a separate CBT for each pay level, not a CBT-I/CBT-II sequence. Technician Grade-I Signal is Pay Level 5 and Technician Grade-III is Pay Level 2. Both papers are objective Computer Based Tests of 100 questions for 100 marks in 90 minutes, with one-third mark deducted for each wrong answer. Where the CBT is held in multiple shifts, RRB applies normalization of marks. The Technician Grade-I Signal paper gives the heaviest weight to Basic Science and Engineering: 35 questions. The remaining indicative split is Mathematics 20, Basics of Computers and Applications 20, General Intelligence and Reasoning 15, and General Awareness 10. That means 55% of the paper is Mathematics plus Basic Science and Engineering, while another 20% is Computer Applications; this is materially different from the Grade-III paper. The Technician Grade-III paper is dominated by General Science, with 40 questions, followed by Mathematics 25, General Intelligence and Reasoning 25, and General Awareness 10. Mathematics + Reasoning + General Science together account for 90 of 100 questions. RRB states that these subject-wise distributions are indicative and the actual question paper may vary. The minimum eligibility percentages in the CBT are UR/EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30% and ST 25%. These are only minimum qualifying floors, not selection cut-offs. Actual shortlisting is RRB-wise on CBT merit against the vacancies of that RRB. The detailed CEN provides for up to two marks' relaxation in the minimum qualifying standard for PwBD candidates where there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies. After the CBT, candidates are shortlisted RRB-wise for Document Verification at a 1:1 ratio to vacancies, based on CBT merit. Appointment remains subject to the prescribed Railway medical fitness standard and final verification of documents and antecedents. There is no second CBT, interview, typing test or physical-efficiency test in the notified Technician selection flow. Aadhaar-linked biometric authentication is used at the examination centre. Candidates should carry the identity document required by the current RRB e-call-letter instructions, keep Aadhaar unlocked where instructed, and rely on the exact city/date/shift printed in their own candidate login. RRB does not entertain requests to change the allotted examination centre, date or shift. Because this record is for the live CBT stage, expired application dates are deliberately not used as the exam start/end dates. The active exam window is 6-9 October 2026.
