UPSSSC Combined JE (Mechanical) Main Examination 2026 — original 100-mark scheme and complete syllabus

The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission's Advertisement 24-परीक्षा/2026 calls this the Combined Junior Engineer (Mechanical) Main Examination (PET-2025)/24. This exam is not PET itself. PET-2025 normalized scores select applicants for the Main Examination; the new Main Exam consists of one objective paper of 100 questions and 100 marks in 120 minutes. One incorrect response costs 0.25 mark, i.e. one quarter of that question's single allotted mark. The Commission has not announced the Main Examination date in this document.

There is no separate subject-wise time allotted in this notice. The entire paper is 120 minutes. Mechanical Engineering adds to 65 marks, IT 15 and Uttar Pradesh 20. The normalised PET-2025 score controls shortlisting for this paper, whereas the paper itself tests the published 2026 main syllabus.

Part 1: Mechanical Engineering — 65 questions

Machines and design, 15 questions: Mechanisms and simple machines; four-bar links and link motion; flywheels and fluctuation of energy; belts, clutches, brakes and gear families; gear ratios, governors, cams and bearings. Work with the function and motion of a machine rather than memorising isolated component names.

Engineering mechanics, 10: Equilibrium and conditions of forces, laws of motion, friction and its effect on mechanical systems. Diagramming forces and recognising the direction of motion can be more important than remembering a formula alone.

Strength of materials, 10: Stress, strain, elastic limit, material constants; riveted joints; bending moment and shear-force diagrams; composite bars, torsion of circular shafts and thin-walled pressure vessels. Separate axial, bending, shear and torsional loading situations.

Thermodynamics, 5: Pure substances and steam tables, saturated/wet/superheated steam, dryness fraction and superheat; heat and work; First and Second Laws; steady-flow energy equation; thermodynamic properties, heat engines, pumps and refrigeration systems.

Internal combustion engines, 5: Air-standard Otto and Diesel cycles, cycle efficiency and engine performance concepts. This is distinct from steam-power engineering.

Steam and power plants, 5: Rankine cycle with/without pump work, boiler classes, specifications, mountings, accessories, nozzles and steam turbines.

Refrigeration and air conditioning, 5: Air compressors and compressor cycles, operating principles of refrigeration plants and the link between temperature, pressure and cyclic process.

Fluid mechanics/hydraulic machines, 10: Fluid statics and pressure measurement, hydraulic turbines, centrifugal pumps, operating principles, classification and performance.

Part 2: Computer and IT — 15 questions

History and application of computers and the Internet; hardware/software, input/output, IP addresses and protocols, email, mobile devices, printers and tablets, operating systems, Word and Excel, social networks and e-governance, financial IT, cyber security and new technology. The appendix specifically includes AI, Big Data processing, deep learning, machine learning and Internet of Things. These named topics are part of the published syllabus and not optional filler.

Part 3: Uttar Pradesh General Information — 20 questions

History, heritage, folk arts, language, literature, monuments and festivals; geography and environment, soils, climate and natural resources; minerals, forests, wildlife; agriculture and industry, employment and trade; administration, polity, public institutions, major events and Uttar Pradesh current affairs. The syllabus does not publish a separate 'current affairs last N months' duration.

Examples are calculation illustrations only. There is no official Main Examination cutoff disclosed here, and the timing of any answer key or objection process is not specified in this advertisement. The presence of a syllabus should not be taken as an announcement of an admit card.

Main-exam admission through PET-2025

Applications are restricted to applicants who appeared in PET-2025 and meet their selected post's educational/age requirements. Normalized PET-2025 scores control category-wise Main Examination shortlisting at fifteen candidates per post, including eligible ties at the final score to two decimal places under the notice. Zero or negative PET scores are excluded. A shortlist does not resolve all certificates: later verification may disqualify an applicant whose diploma, category, name or other declaration is unsupported.

Practice priorities driven by the actual weightage

Spend the largest share of revision on the notified 65-mark Mechanical block, especially 15-mark Theory of Machines and the 10-mark Mechanical, Materials and Fluids sections. Do not omit any 5-mark engineering block, because together the four 5-mark groups equal the full 20-mark UP portion. Revise computer terminology with practical examples, and Uttar Pradesh factual information with appropriate context. Use a 120-minute practice paper to test answer accuracy under the published 0.25 deduction.

The Commission's official notification provides the definitive material: pages 16–21 of the 44-page advertisement contain the test scheme and syllabus in both Hindi and English. Only the UPSSSC official website will publish a future exam date, admit card or selection notice.
